Speaker 1 (00:06):
News Radio seven ten WNTM Uncle Henry here on ast
Expert once again with Ron and Anna of Mobile Bay
Coins and Fine Jewelry. Mobile Bay Coins and Fine Jewelry
located at twenty two oh four Government Street at Midtown Bobile.
You can also find Mobile bay Coins and Fine Jewelry
online at Mobile Baycoins dot com and you can see
(00:28):
lots of great pictures at Mobile bay Coins and Fine
Jewelry's Instagram and Facebook accounts. Ron and Anna, I'm gonna
guess you've been as busy as ever at Mobile Bay Coins.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yes, sir, it's been crazy actually, which is a good crazy.
I mean we were talking about that before we went
on the air. I mean, it can get to the
point when you love the business. But of course me
maybe how many more employees do we have to hire
to take care of this kind of influx? So it
was great. A lot of cool stuff has been coming
in the shop, and Anna has been doing a great job.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Yeah, can I I'm due for an app at this point.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Okay, well, hey, just hold off until the end of
the show, just until you get to the end of
the show here. Now, first tell me where we are
with Gold and Silver. How are the precious metals doing.
In the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
They've been climbing. I mean, silver is back over thirty
three dollars an ounce right now, and gold is almost
at thirty three back to where it was. It's just
hanging I think, like twenty bucks or so below that
at the moment. But a lot of people have been
coming in to buy gold and silver into sell gold
and silver. It just depends on the time of the
(01:34):
day that they come in or hear, you know about
gold and silver being up or down.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah, so, and a lot of it had to do
with the correction when Trump announced the trade deal with
China our a potential trade deal. At least they put
off tears or lower tears for ninety days whatever. That
was good news stock market, you know, of course, stocks
did very well. And the companies JP, Morgan Chase, these
large companies that have to hedge certain amounts week old
(01:59):
and silver of course automatically sell stuff too when the
price gets to a certain level. So gold once again
was almost thirty four hundred an ounce, and then there
was some profit taking drop down to thirty one hundred
and some change, just a couple bucks, and it's been
climbing steadily, since it's healthy to have corrections. We have
people come in and they say, should I be worried
that gold dropped today or silver drop today? I'm like, no,
(02:22):
that's a buying opportunity. What you should be worried is
if they say we discovered an asteroid that we can
mine and they're going to bring the gold to Earth
and some major to where it's gonna be a huge
influx of gold. Maybe worry about it then, But normal
day to day things. There's a lot of news you
can read and don't read the fake news. There as
much fake news about Trump as there is about gold
(02:42):
and silver, because you'll he'll hear people saying gold's going
to hit ten thousand dollars by June. Well, June's next month,
and if it hits ten thousand dollars, everything else is
in turmoil. It means people are running around the streets
and it would be bad. So be careful what news
you read, and don't just rely on one source.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
We've got a lot to get to with mobile Bay
coins and find jewelry here on this program. Before we
get to that, I just wanted to talk to you
and the listener about how great it is to be
able to go to a local business like Mobile Bay
Coins and find jewelry. The reason I wanted to stress
that is I heard another story today about a retired
lady that was sent at home all day and ordering
(03:23):
gold and silver when she saw things on TV and
online and has ended up with a lot of gold
and silver products that she paid way too much for.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yes, and we see it all the time, not just
at the shop, on Instagram, other dealers around the country,
and it's almost always a special labels on either NGC
or PC just like when the Treasurer Reagan was signing
these slabs, they did special labels for pcgs on proof
and BU gold. They emigrated just normal sixty nine. They
(03:54):
weren't even like seventies. And they were selling these sets,
which is one point eight five ounces of gold, worse
four piece sets for about thirty thousand dollars a set,
which is way over priced because two ounces of gold
under two ounces of gold should for that amount should
cost you at the most close to six thousand dollars,
maybe maybe sixty five hundred at the time, So they're
(04:15):
paying you know, maybe not ten times but five times
the amount they should. And in many cases the people
are old or retired and they're trying to hedge their
gold right leave it to their legacy for their kids
or grandkids. They pass away and one of the surviving
spouses come in and they find out that if they
overpaid by that amount, and of course to get your
money back, you got to hire lawyers and pay lawyer's fees.
(04:37):
And these these predatory companies know that. So if you
see something in an ad or on TV, give us
a call. It's free two five, one, seven fifty ninety.
Tell us what you saw and we'll give you some
free advice and tell you if what we could get
the same product for you, what it would cost.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Yeah, and you're dealing with local people at Mobile Bay
Coins and find Jewelry. Who are they live here and
have for years. You're gonna see them when you're out
and abound. And it's tax free in Alabama. Yes, sir,
So mobile Bay Coins and fine jewelry. Don't get yourself
ripped off by going online or buying off TV. Now,
(05:18):
Memorial Day coming up, you're gonna be closed.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
We will be closed this coming up Monday, we will
be closed. So we have a three day weekend our employees,
just like employees all around. Now, many retail employees don't
get that day off, and I feel bad for them,
but everybody needs a three day weekend.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Now.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Oh well, banks will be closed, and I think a
lot of traders will be closed as well.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah, because you really can't do any transactions when the
banks are closed.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Most coin businesses around the country, at least everyone I
know about, closes on those days, and usually Saturdays. Also,
because like I was saying, the stock markets are closed,
and major trading companies that we trade with in order
to replace medals or arder medals aren't open on the weekends. Now,
there are things you can do online, but usually that's
going to cost you more than if you're trading during
normal business hours.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
So we are in a graduation season and Mobile Bay
Coins and Find Jewelry is my favorite place to buy
gifts for anyone. You always say you just have the
things that address most people's interests. There at Mobile Bay
Coins and find Jewelry give some some good graduation gift
ideas for people that don't know what to get their
their graduates.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Well, besides open the knives that have been really popular,
just boys there is congratulations bars. I used to have
some graduation ones themed ones, but those have sold out.
They're all gone.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
I have a lot of ha.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Yeah, I can custom make one where it's like a
blank bar around where we can put it congratulations on
your graduation, but I have to hand engrave that design
on there. It's not pre stamped. But there is some
congratulations bars still left. They would get engrave with you know,
the school, the kid's name, the years, anything you want
(06:55):
to put on there or personal message. And then we
also have twenty twenty five American Silver Eagle that has
been really popular for graduation because a lot of people
just want to give a silver dollar to the graduate.
And for the girls, a lot of them have been
getting either you know, pearls studs or necklaces or the
(07:15):
school colors in a gemstone ring. That's been a new
trend where instead of getting the traditional class ring, the
girls have been opting out for just school color gemstone.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
I've never heard that before.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Yeah, I've had quite a few come through. Can I
mention the school name out here, Miguel Tolan. I've had
quite a few come through and they've just all wanted
that orange, orange and yellow color.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
The old cannon color right when they paint the cannon.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Yep. Okay, So that is all of these graduation gifts
available at Mobile Bay, cons and Fine Jewelry. Speaking of
class rings, do a lot of people bring in their
old class rings to turn them into cash?
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Oh yeah, that's always a thing. And sometimes people we
find class rings washed up on the beach or at
the storage units. People bring those in as well, and
stuff they've had in the family for a long time,
and a lot of people had them initialed on the inside,
so the initials don't really match up. And then of
course the year.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Yeah, just in golf shores go down Tuesday after Memorial
Day and you'll see all the metal detectors sty out
there trying to find all the stuff people lost. And
we know a couple of them to do it, and
they find quite a bit of a it's almost a
competition for these guys, you know. I can see two
metal detector guys punching it out.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Speaking of metal detecting, there, we actually have a soul
round that's got like a metal detector. I think it's
called a treasure hunter one where it's a real treasure
hunter and has a guy with the little metal detector
on the front. Yep.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Well, I remember years of I'd say maybe ten to
fifteen years ago, back when the pressure registers still printed
a paper. They did a big story on a married
couple that had metal detectors that worked in the water
and they made their li at the beaches finding jewelry
right where people swim. It was the people leaves a
(09:08):
lot of jewelry in the water.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Yeah, cause I've seen five gallon buckets, not full, but
a third foal of things that metal detector. This one
is a retired police officer, have been retired probably ten
years now, and he once he gets to where he
it's uncomfortable to pick up, he'll take it in and
sell it. I mean, that's a lot of gold. He
does some diving too, so he goes to swimming holes
that kids frequent during the summer and gets permission from
(09:32):
the owners to dive in and splits what he finds,
and he said, it's amazing what you find. You then
kids will be smart enough to take your jewelry off.
And before you go maybe it's not just kids, it's
probably the older adults.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Well, well, this is a good point in this broadcast
to tell people what they can bring to you. If
the listener needs cash, what can they bring to Mobile
Bay Coins and find jewelry and turn into cash.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Oh, just about anything that's precious metals. I mean it
could be coin, it could be silver, gold, platinum, jewelry,
platinum bars, bullying, collectible coins, paper money, flatware, flatware you
like strolling silver forks, knives and spoons and tea sets
(10:16):
and trays.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
And make sure you if you don't know how to
identify weather an item like flatware is sterling, give us
a call. It's easy. Many people come in because they'll
see the word silver on the back of the fork
or the knife. Are a number like eighteen forty one
silver that just is a color, or.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Nickel silver that's not real silver?
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Yeah, you got it. Get Sterling's the word you're looking for,
unless it's back in the eighteen hundreds. And then there's
different symbols and stuff from.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
England and stuff British hall mark.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Yeah, so we can help you out with that. So
give us a call and we can save you some gas.
So people, we've had people drive a long way thinking
they had a boatload of stuff and then up being
plated stole some value. You can take it to a
junkyard and they're gonna give you something for it, but
nowhere near what you thought you were gonna get.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Okay, that number again is two five one seven ninety
to call Mobile Bay Coins and find jewelry fifteen ninety. Now,
can you tell me about some of the new things
that have come in the last few weeks at Mobile
Bay Coins.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Well, right now, you know the pope had passed and
they've gotten appointed a new one. But we do have
a collectible back dated twenty thirteen, I think is when
Pope Francis got elected as the pope at the time.
But we have a copper one ounce round that has
been a popular gift for those that are looking for
(11:33):
you know, it's it's not very expensive. It's a novelty
thing that over time is going to be more collectible.
They don't make them anymore.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
And it did come from mister Sema Farrow. He put
a roll back when they elected that pope and it
was in a the state, So I mean it was
like the guy. I mean, I guess everybody knows we
all die. So if popes get elected rather old, maybe
it's a good thing to put away. But at the
time he was ordering, I'm like, is that's your investment
idea of semi faro? And they did go up in value,
so the man knew what he was doing. But yeah,
(12:03):
that's from his estate.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
So from Angelo's to State the Pope copper rounds, and
it was I remember years ago when people started coming
into Mobile Bay corns and find jewelry and actually buying
copper rounds, which kind of surprised me, but they ended up.
You've had several that have ended up being collectible.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Oh yeah, and the people still buy him. I had
one gentleman come in last week that actually said, oh
my god, you have copper rounds? How much are they?
Because he was he was just like a kid in
the candy store because he said every time that he's
tried to buy them in an auction online, he always
gets outbid.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
And I'm just like, well, you can buy as many
as you want. We have different designs.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
We don't recommend him for investing the investing in copper in any.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Way, shape or no, no, no no.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
But it's an inexpensive collectible. It's a great way to
get a youngster into the recognizing Hey, these are collectibles
and they're coinerly, they're not coins, they're just metals exonumia.
But there's many different designs, I mean, dinosaurs, almost any
theme you can think of.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Yeah, they make great gifts for like kids, because I
have quite a few grandmas that come in and basically
buy them by the pound because they want to give
them every time the kids come over and they're babysitting
and they give them out as gifts to the grandchildren.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Well, it's great for the kids because the kid it's
a coin they can handle. The kids can't handle the
silver and the gold stuff.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
At least they shouldn't.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
They shouldn't. Yes, Okay, So that's available at Mobile Bay.
Coins and Pine Jewelry. Anything else come in interesting, anything new?
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Well, we do have some estate jewelry that honestly, it's
I hate to use the word gaudy, but it does
look like stuff that belongs in like a queen of state,
you know, like the late Queen Elizabeth. It looks like
something she would wear or have on her finger, her neck,
or her earrings.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Because this jewelry is vintage, it's not costume gaudy, it's vented.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
Ventage custom made pieces in their very unusual stuff, and
a lot of people look at it, but sometimes they're
just afraid to ask for the price, and don't be
because a lot of it is every time somebody asks
for the price, there's fairly surprised that it's so, you know,
such a good price for what it is.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Okay, tell me more about your jewelry inventory. I will
Before you do, I'll let you know that my new wife,
she has been sitting out on the back deck with
me searching your website Mobile Bay cons and find jewelry,
going to the shop button at your website, and then
constantly looking up jewelry items there on the website, wanting
(14:44):
to find certain things.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
That's dangerous.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Well, talk about that jewelry inventory.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
Yeah, we have quite a few items that I don't
necessarily fit into the case. So when you come into
the shop and you may not be able to find
which looking for in our jewelry cases, don't be afraid
to do or don't hesitate to ask if we have
any more jewelry to look at, because a lot of
it is in the safe behind us, all boxed up,
(15:12):
put away and filed, and little baggies with inventory numbers
because there's a lot of items that we have online
that are just not there's just not enough space to
put them all into the case.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
So you put ten thousand items in the case, it's
not going to look good. It's just gonna be a
big time.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
We always get compliments on our selection on jewelry and
bullying and things like that. So when you come in,
if you don't see what you're looking forward, please ask us,
because a lot of the time we can set you
up at the counter, let you look at the stuff
we have online, decided what you want, and a lot
of the time we can find it. And I have
new items that have come in all the time that
(15:48):
I've put out of the back trays because I haven't
processed them yet. So we can really give you a
great deal on that because I haven't you put the
time and the effort to take pictures of it and
list it online yet.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
And if you still don't find what you want, mobile
Bay coins and find Joey can get it for you.
Like my wedding band ordered through you and you got
a great piece of jewelry and got it in grave force.
It was. It ended up being a really great buy so, uh,
(16:19):
what else can you tell me about new stuff at
Mobile Bay Coins and fine jewelry.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Well, with the prices being up, we have a lot
of new stuff available in bulk, like one ounce Canadian
maple leaf silvers, and for a while there was tariffs
on those, so the prices went up. Well, the quantity
we bought. You can get those just like you're buying
an American silver Eagle, actually less of a premium, much cheaper. Uh,
just one ounce silver rounds brand new, and I can't
(16:46):
say fresh from the whoever manufacturer them, the actual mentor
because these are older designs, I mean, the don't tread
on me designed usually as a premium round and we
bought a lot of them, but we're getting down to
just three, about three hundre left, so you got to
buy twenty at a time. Make great gifts. We don't
really want to break the rolls up. We would if
you really wanted one, but you know, we like to
(17:07):
move them out of role at a time because you
can buy them just like the normal silver you have
right now. It's in less than two dollars premium over spots.
So we've sold a lot of them. We're getting a
little bit low on those and then one hundred downs
silver bars. We bought a slew of one hundred downs
silver bars. So for the stacker that wants to get
a really goodbye, buy one hundred ounces at a time
and stack it up.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
One hundred ounce silver bars. So and I saw this
on your Facebook page and I just thought, well, they
got a few of them. You've got a lot of them.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Yes, you could build a small log cabin with them. So, yeah,
lots of them available. Different design yeah, different designs. So
come in and it's not like they're rare or anything,
but that's a small premium. And for the people that
really want to stack and put it away, it's an
easy way to do it. Just keep in mind when
it comes time to sell it, you have to sell
that whole hundred ounces at a time, right. Make sure
(17:57):
you mix your stacking or your portfolio up with small
dollar sizes. So if you do need to raise a
little capital for a flat tire or something you don't
want to use your credit card for, you don't have
to sell a whole hundred ounce bar. You could just
sell a couple of ten ounce bars or whatever is
pertinent for the situation.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Do you still have people and I know for years
this was the case. Do you still have people that
come in a couple of times a month just buying
small quantities every time they get paid.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
That's pretty much every day everybody. There's somebody comes in.
They only want an ounce or two ounces and that's
all they get every every week.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
But they're doing it regularly. Yeah, they're building their own collection.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Well, it's basically it's think of it this way. You
could spend that money on like a meal, and nowadays,
you know, the fast food meal costs you just as
much as you know going out to eat to a
decent restaurant. So you could put that into an ounce
of silver or two and you know.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Go home and make a sandwich and be happy, and yeah,
you're stacked because it adds up fast. We had guys
start with just a silver die per pay day and
then they become regular customers and build up and over
the years you find out how much they've stacked just
by buying a dime or a quarter or a few
barber habits or whatever. We have so many different regulars
that have habits. You know, right what to grab farm
(19:14):
when they come in, what trade to get you know,
and they'll pick their items out there looking far to
stack and for that week and or that bi weekly,
however they're paid.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Didn't they go?
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Speaking of barbers, didn't you get a new barber quarter
that was really nice?
Speaker 2 (19:25):
And I sold it already? Yeah, a dealer called me
sent me a picture of a barber quarter he's looking
to sell and circulated.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
I bought it.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
It came in and I sold it, okay, twenty four hours.
But yeah, new stuff is coming in all the time.
I have connections around the country. I deal with dealers
that know things that I like and things that my
customers like, and get new stuff all the time. But
I have other uncirculated barber quarters too. This just happened
to be an extra pretty one, and the first person
I showed it to couldn't couldn't resist it.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
So very good. So if people, if people are really
into it, you can help them out. The very serious
collectors can be helped out of Mobile Bay coins.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
Yeah, and we maintain one list for jewelry for coins
for different bullion items, and then when we get stuff
out of hold or something comes in, we'll give people
that have already been looking for at for a shot
at those items when they come out of hold. So yeah,
make sure you eat, call or come by and talk
to us, because we can help you out in many
different ways.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Okay, we've only got about a minute left here. You're
still doing free appraisals.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
I know that. Yes, and I've noticed some kids, well,
the parents of bringing kids into get the kids' coins
of praise, so we don't charge for that. And yeah,
the kids have a great time doing that, so bring
them in. Let them find out what their coins are worth.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Okay, if somebody wants a free appraisal, should they call
in advance.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
If it's a large one, if it fits into a
shoe box, you don't really need to make an appointment
for that. We can go through that pretty quickly.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Okay, that's two five, one, seven, fifteen ninety to call
Mobile Bay Coins and find jewelry. And before we're we're
out of time, a quick mention of signing up for
your emails. I've enjoyed getting those emails.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Yes, and Ron is actually in the process of writing
a decent news.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Yeah, really nice newsletter, Jessic. It got really busy. I
plan to have it here to show it to you tonight. Okay,
I have it out this week, working on. We want
to do at least once a month, a nice, full
length newsletter, but we also use it for the deals
like we're talking about with the maple leafs or of
the underdounce bars. We'll send email first out, but we're
going to have at least a monthly and if we
can hire somebody to help out, maybe weekly because I
(21:26):
like writing and so does Anna and Nancy, so we'll
get a nice one. I'm working on it, almost done,
so hopefully we'll have it out this week.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Okay, So, you the listener go to mobile baycoins dot
com and you can sign up for that email there.
So Ron and Anna mobile bay coins and find Jewelry,
thank you for coming in. Thank you sir, and you
