Speaker 1 (00:01):
The Flavor Podcast Network, The Flavor Breakfast Podcast with stace A,
Zarah and Charlie. We have some special gifts in the studio.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
I say a Rocky.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Good morning, good morning, good morning, and.
Speaker 4 (00:14):
To tell us about the play version of Red, White
and Brass a little bit awkward. So Charlie's nephew was
in the movie, but he's got the cut.
Speaker 5 (00:25):
Was busy of school and you know, we didn't want
to pull him out.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Charlie is just he's the one that's cut because he
never even got us to be in the movie either,
do you know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (00:34):
I never got to be in the movie.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Mixture will be fine.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
But now we are in this beautiful Auckland Theater Company
show tell us about you know, I loved the movie.
By the way, So how does this come to life
on stage?
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Rocky?
Speaker 4 (00:46):
How would you describe it?
Speaker 3 (00:47):
How does it come to life on stage? That is
a very good question. Okay, I'll answer this. It's just
presented differently, but it still has the flavors of what
the film Nice was. I still has the elements of rugby,
as are the elements of family and the overall element
of fun. I think that's the best way I can
explain without giving you too much spoilers.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Yeah, oh well.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
It's like the movie, so you can't spoil.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
But the scene with.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
But also like the real life story, right, because this
is based on a true story. So what sort of
research did you do? You know, like, did you did
you watch the story of how this happened in the
seventh Rugby World Cup or what did you do in print?
Speaker 5 (01:28):
I see, yeah, I watched the movie and I was
lucky enough to be around, Like I can still remember
what happened back in twenty eleven, you know, when Dona
filled the streets and essentially started the whole parade movement
back then, you know, all of my uncles and nunties
were at the airport calling in sick just the team arrived.
So yeah, in preparation, yeah, just being tongue and for
(01:50):
me was prep enough. And then just following what happened
in the movie essentially.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
And what do both of your families think about you
being a part of you know, the play because being
at the ace be Waterfront Theater obviously an incredible story
that they would relate to and know, Yeah, how how
how has that been?
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Man, they're so proud. I think yeah, proud as one
of the few words that come to my brain. They're
just really excited to just be like, Wow, you're really
going to perform and there I wait to watch. What
about you?
Speaker 5 (02:20):
You know, my parents know that I've been acting for ages,
and when I told them they were part of this
tongan show, the first of it's kind for ATC, they
were what's the English word for lot? They were overcome
with like emotions joy. They were quite happy that you
know that I'm not doing any more bolangi or any
(02:42):
I mean, as fun as it is, they're just like, oh,
finally you get to be in something tonguean and meaty
and just yeah. So they're excited to come watch.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
And I think it's good for our own people to
to to see that you guys are doing theater and
it's which is which is pretty cool because like you know,
for a lot of our Polynesian and maybe tongue on people,
like they only see Hollywood and shortened student and all
this stuff. But having you guys, you know, at the ATC,
like for the first time for our people.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Yeah, it's like the first tongue and show that they're
ever going to put on. Wow, to have red bar
and brass as as the vehicle to you know, have
at the atc a speed waterfront field. It's amazing.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
It.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
That's different when you hear own language on stage on
TV that sort of thing. So yeah, it's so.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
We need to pack it out that way.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Yeah, You've got a good long season from the eighteenth
of June to the sixth of July, so you need
to get long. What about in terms of the instrument playing,
how's that? How's that going?
Speaker 5 (03:45):
I mean, we've got we've got instruments and some of us,
some of the calasts do know how to play a
little bit, but not you know, professionally. But we have
an amazing brass band coming in called the Mama Little
Brass Band.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Yes, I know, ye the ones who turned up at
your house, come over to your house.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
During Christmas and they are awesome right now.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
So they're like stunt performance for you really yeah.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
Socially so yeah, the proper brass band players and we
just smuck around in front of But yeah, they're amazing.
Like Charlie said, they learned everything off by heart.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
You know, they are on they're telling you guys, Yeah,
