Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the Flavor podcast Network. You're listening to Staycissura and
Charlie's off the.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Record, your record. It's off the record. And what I
love about off the record is that we took about
the things that we cannot really say on radio. And
here's why we leave it or we say that for
off the record.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Oh yeah, sir, it is strictly prohibited. And Charlie has
come to my attention that you attended Saint Paul's College.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yes, COMFORTI is the Vera.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Oh is the Vera?

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Baby?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Is this a Marris Brother school?

Speaker 2 (00:34):
It is? I think it is.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Well you and Sacred Heart, I think follow the same people.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
The history goes back. Take a seat. Let me tell
you this. So the history goes back. Sacred out in
Saint Paul's were once upon a time one O they
sort of split and one went out East Auckland and
we stayed in central in pont Toby too to be exact.
But we still have the same we have the same
school motto. Yes, so comfortarius via take courage, be a man.

(01:02):
You know, I feel really bad giving you the same
Pau's history lesson because I understand you went to Dlasal,
which is a rival school of Saint Pause. You know
what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
I feel like we're opening a can of room. So
for anyone who doesn't live in Tamiki Makoto, these are
two private Catholic or boys schools and they're pretty much
like for like, except Saint Pauls is in Central Auckland.
De Lasu is in South Auckland. Our motto is bonum
sudermn susa, which is fight the good fight, nice and man.
We're the fight to be had between De Lasu and

(01:36):
Saint Paul's. Man.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
I've seen it all. I've seen it all, but see
the hard part is because Delasal is located in South Auckland,
and I grew up in Autara. Yes, so a lot
of my primary and intermediate friends all went to Dlasal.
So when all of this whole thing was popping off,
I was sort of caught in between it. But you know,
I'm not a violent person. You love another fighter one percent,

(02:00):
So when everything was popping off, you know I would still.
There were buses that will teacher to tell us, hey,
you guys cannot catch these buses.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Blast aliens will be on silence will be on.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
This buses and I don't want any trouble all this
whole stuff, but that never really you know that that
wasn't for me, that the whole talk, because I would
jump on the four four seven and four four seven
from the Autahoo bus depot back in the days.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Back in the day, and the center of the shopping and.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
That place used to be the place of if you
wanted to meet up and sort the.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Differences, it'll be right there.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah. You know, so I will catch any bus as
long as it gets to the Autaho Who bus depot,
then I will catch the four four seven back home.
The four four seven route will go from au Tahoo
Who Bus Depot through Middlemore and you know this bro
De Lasu and Middlemore, they're like neighbors. Yeah. So you
had a lot of dealer salliens catching the train, yes,

(02:56):
and then you had a lot of them catching this
four four seven bus.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
And for myself, people used to think I was crazy
because you're you're in the you're in the lines dungeon
right now.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, you're asking for it, like glass territory, territory.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
And I was wearing my uniform and you know, this
never phazed me because you know, for one I believe
that my relationship, well these guys were more important than
this nonsense that was was going on.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
You are a south side of first you and you know, I'll.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Catch the bust and you know, I'll chat with all
my man's. We'll get off and ata and we'll always
go by our little chips and all that and walk
home from Wata. So I would only have enough money
from Otahuhu to Atara the shopping center, and then we'll
all get off and you know, whatever left of the money,
we'll all pitch in and buy our chips and walk.
So it was a bit of a mission and talk

(03:48):
about all the stuff. But it wasn't a thing to
see any deal I Salliens or Saint Paul's people hanging
out after school. But this was for me. But this
was the the ice break. This, this is what sort
of separated me and my friends, like you know, after
this whole thing, I started playing for fifteen for Ragby
in DLAs and the year two thousand and three, you

(04:10):
guys had the best team. True, you guys had the
best team. I think you guys went on to win
the Auckland Championship and if you know, you know, winning
the a secondary school.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
That's because you're going up against rich schools with heaps
of money. They can poach students, they can go to
student scholarships all this.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
And delas I had the best team. They ended up
winning the whole championship. But I remember two thousand and
three Dlasal had their one hundred and fiftieth jubilee. Yes,
and Saint Paul's played Dla sal At de la Sal. Yeah,
you guys, one hundred and fiftieth jubilee. And I'm telling you, bro,
it felt like we were playing at Eden Park. The
whole alumni, you know, like four old schoolers. People were

(04:52):
coming in buses. You had people fly in from Japan,
people come from Australia overseas.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
A big deal.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
It was a big deal with jubilee. And honestly they
even like correct me if I'm wrong, man, They had
these grand stands that they will set up on the sideline,
just how big it was.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Whoa like.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
I come from a rugby league background, but I remember
that week. Our coaches were, look, if you guys want
to come and play first fifteen, we will present you
guys double honors. So first, if you played rugby league
and then played first fifteen. It's called double honors.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
That I was cooled.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
But our school's quite tiny, about three hundred people, so
for that week they were like, bro, we'll give you
guys double honors just to play deal ourselves. So the
teachers were in it as well, you know, which is cool.
We're just passionate about this, yeah, bro. And then I
played up. I played against my own friends. Bro, you know,
so I was like, oh, I figure it, Okay, this
is just the sport we'll play. And they were friends after.

(05:49):
Tell me why, bro. After we finished playing Dealers, our
Dealers out beat us, but it was a close game.
It was seven to three, so we had majority of
our players with all Rugby league players, so we sort
of have our ground to a certain extent, but deal
ours house still one. Tell me why.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
At the end of the.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Game, I went over to shake my mate's hand, but
this is in front of you know, your guys home territory,
gonna shake my like he brushed me off.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
I was like, what a changes to Maya?

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Maya like you know, walking over James, no one know.
I was like, okay, I see, you know, And then
sort of we sort of grew apart after that, bro,
like you know, thinking what was what was in the
water that week? Bro, what what's going on here? You know
a lot of people when they start at Saint Paul's
already deal us out. It's almost like, okay, here's the

(06:38):
one and one the school. You hate them?

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Yeah, you know, yeah, whenever you see these guys are
going to fight them. A patriotic about your school to
the point of getting the school Christ tested on.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Your chest at all. Last year, you know, we there
was a little crew of us. Okay, so when we
leave Samples, everyone's going to get there. You're going to
get that the shield, simple shield, tell taded on your
list chest. Yeah, bro, I love the school, but not
that much, man. Yeah, leave me out of this run man.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
And that is the four one one on the Saint
Paul's de Lacel rivalry. We love each other. Now. I
think there was like a Saint Paul's literally came to
our school and they brought an olive tree. It's a
plant at our school.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Seeh I love that.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
And then they I think some people pulled the olive
tree out from the ground. So I don't know where
that relationship stance changes.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Man.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Some things you can never change.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Thanks for listening to Stace, Azara and Charlie's off the record.
