Your record.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Welcome to Off the Record with Station Zara and Chali.
We bring things here. There's going gone the radio. Charlie
had a big moment today.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
I had a massive moment because we had and this
is a player that I looked up to and honestly
to a point where I used to mimic or try
and play like him. I wasn't nowhere near him, by
the way, But you know, when you try to compare
yourself when people who's your favorite player, I would say
Nigel Wagner because we played the same position center. And
(00:42):
then I had the opportunity to attend Saint Paul's College
through a scholarship. And when I got when I got
nicked or when I got caught wagging and went into
the principal's office, mister Mara, he said, bro, you guys
have just wasted an opportunity. Some of the students from
Saint Paul's who have carried on to like greater places,
(01:05):
Nigel Wagner, Joe Waganer, Stacey Jones, they all helped with
school feast, school uniform travel all of this, you know,
and so.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
They put them through your scholarship everything.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
You know what I mean, and we wasted it wagging
down at stage just that at the bottom.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Nothing happening. He just really said these people would be disappointed,
which is pretty when you when when that's your heroes
they're talking about and they tell you your heroes are
going to be disappointed in you, that's different, bro different.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
So when you see that, because we had no idea
that these people helped, you know, like Nigel, l and
Stacey and so forth. And I remember, mister moraw this
is the year two thousand saying to us, but if
you ever see Nigel, Stacey, Joe, you need to apologize
to them, like you said it, like as if we're
just going to walk out the street and see them.
And I never and I have never met them, only
(01:55):
on TV.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
And you never wagged after that, And.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
I honestly, hand on heart broke and thing else ever happened,
because you know, I looked up to him and I
didn't want to waste anybody's time. At a young age
that was already instilled like don't waste people's time.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
All of this anyways, fast forward, fast.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Forward to today. I finally got to meet him, bro,
and he's, you know, being he's retired now from forty
after so many years. But I was still sitting here nervous.
I'm sure you guys get tut. Bro. I was just
like starstruck. Holy shit, that's Nigel Bag and I like, Bro,
that's the guy I looked up to. But then, you know,
I just needed to get this off my chest and
(02:33):
and apologize. I'm sure he was like, Bro, you're.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Weird, you know me Like, no, he was.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
He was so us Saint Paul's boy as well. That
immediate brotherhood was there, And.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Can I also say he was Actually, he was more
nervous for what was going to come out of your mouth.
You know, Charlie's got a confession to make and it's
something he needs to do. He was like, oh, what's
it going to be? What's going to be? And then
he goes, I don't trust you tongue. And then when
he realized that was what it was and you were
just apologizing, he was like, oh is that And the
(03:01):
minute you said it's from you from Saint Paul's, by
the way, they'd already introduced themselves and said hello Nigel
then got up and Rebro Shake Charlie and I swear
a stage that sick and shake and had something different
in it.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
And that's pretty cool. Yeah, that's pretty cool the brotherhood
that you have. And so you told him and he said,
it's okay, you had a different path, something higher waiting
for you. That it was not the video games at
stages though, that was not what was waiting for you.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
And you know what the funny thing is, like we
didn't even have money to go down stage, just the
playming games. It was just getting down there for the girls.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
To hang out, to hang out thinking it through, man,
But I mean, you know, I don't know what it is.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Bro. Just today just felt a little bit different, like
you know, one getting to like, you know, handshake of
my hero, my somebody that looked up to. Then secondly
like you know, him recognizing that I went to Saint
Paul's as well, and also him helping up with my
school fees and getting me to school every day, and
(04:00):
like to see someone in his calibar like to give
back to the school. You know a lot of people
would just leave the school that's it done, you know,
but these guys were actually helping the likes of myself
and and everyone else who's gone from the school to
better places.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Would you do something similar if I.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Had the money, yes, one of these, you know what
I mean, I would, I would help, you know, because
that's the problem. And he's I think you know, uh, Stacey, Joe,
Bagana and Nigel probably seeing that, you know, it's always
been a struggle in Polynesian families like to to get
to school and school lunches, uniform fees and all this
whole carry on. They're like, you know what, we'll take
that stretch out of you guys. We'll cover that. You
(04:39):
guys just turn up to a very.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Good r leg school and go and Rugby School.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
So how are you feeling now, good man?
Speaker 1 (04:47):
