(00:00):
Here's the very latest from around theglobe from the fifty five KRC You Center.
Three people have been shot and killedat a party in Philadelphia. It
happened earlier this morning. Police sayten people were shot, including those killed.
They say that more than one hundredwere at the party. Detectives are
still looking for suspects and determining amotive. A woman was stabbed inside a
(00:23):
terminal at Miami International Airport late lastnight, sending her to the hospital in
critical condition and temporarily disrupting service.Miami Dade Police say an adult male suspect
was arrested at the scene. Officialssay a disrupted traffic through the airport for
about two hours. More flight cancelationsare expected today as airlines still recover from
(00:44):
a global tech outage that left thousandsstranded at airports. More than fifty four
hundred flights into otiv or within theUS were canceled Friday and Saturday, and
reports say more than six hundred flightshave already been canceled this morning. The
cause and operating systems up date issuedby the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. I'm Scott
Carr. We may not always agree, but we can agree on one thing.
(01:11):
Fifty five KRC is the talk station. All right, back to work.
We go at home with Gary Salvian. We're thirty three minutes after the
top of the air. And areyou annoyed by flies? Especially this time
of year? Seeing a lot offlies? Yellow jackets, that's another one.
So I brought in our friend Alyssa. She is with Rescue. You've
(01:33):
heard me speak with Alyssa before aboutdifferent bugs that are driving us crazy.
And Alyssa, welcome again at homewith Gary salvan How you doing. Oh,
I'm doing great, Gary, Thanksfor having me. You're quite welcome.
Flies. Are we at the peakseason of flies? I mean,
I know there's always flies, butit seems like this year they're worse than
normal, or at least in myback here. Yeah. Oh, what
(01:55):
they need are heat and moisture, and so you have that in abundance where
you are and in most parts ofthe entry right now. Sure they tend
to breed faster during that time.Yeah, you see them in summer they're
going to be worse. Absolutely.Yeah. So I'm sure there's all kinds
of species of flies, but fliesin general, how do we get rid
of them? How can I enjoythe outdoors a little bitter. Well.
(02:17):
So the way we work it iswe have our outdoor fly traps that are
scent based, and you don't wantthose near your your home. Entrances are
inside your home. A lot ofpeople say, oh, my fly problem
is inside the house. Well no, my morbid joke. And unless you
have a rotting corpse inside your house, your flight problem's not inside. It's
outside and they're coming and they're makingtheir way in. So you want to
(02:38):
solve the problem outside first with ascent based trap, and so you then
that's going to be our vacuum cleanufor flies. Our outdoor fly traps really
mop up the population and control them. And then we have a line of
visilure traps that trap them by sightand they use different colors and patterns to
track them. And then those aresticky traps, so they're attracted by the
(03:00):
and then they go onto them. And so those are used more in your
indoors or in close proximity to yourhouse, at your deck, your patio,
those sort of spaces, so outwhere say your compost, dumpster,
garbage, or if you have adog run, chicken coop, that sort
of thing. That's where you haveyour outdoor fly trap. And then inside
or in your more close proximity outdoorliving spaces, then you have the visiler
(03:24):
line, which is called trap sticks. And then we also have new this
year fly tat well, I gotquestions. Absolutely, I'm here for that.
So those scent based traps, again, they're outside, and obviously you
don't want to attract them to whereyou are, so they're away from the
(03:44):
living area and you're kind of movingthem over there. Correct, right,
So it's two things that you wantwith a fly trap. One, the
thing stinks pretty good, so youdon't want to smell it, so you
don't want it to be where itis. Also, the flies love it.
That thing will will attract them theywant to go there, and so
(04:05):
you you don't want to bring allthose flies to you in the trap if
you put it right next to yourtable. So for two reasons. One,
the flies love that smell and youare not going to like that.
So is it just how big?Is it? Size of two hands something
like that? Or you know,we have different sizes and different uses.
(04:28):
So we have a disposable line andthat comes in two sizes. One is
just your I would say average homeowner. It's the one I use. You
can put one out in your backyardif you have, say a dog,
and that thing will fill up inabout a month, and it's probably that's
so, yeah, that's probably theone that's about the size of two hands,
okay, and then you've got theother, the other trap called a
big bag, and that's about fourhands okay, and that one, that
(04:50):
one's more If you have a largerfly population, they're all going to last
about thirty days or you want toget thirty days out of them. If
your fly trap fills up earlier thanthirty days, then you probably need a
larger one. So if you havethe regular one, get the big bag.
If you're filling it out the fourthirty days. Yeah, yeah,
just you just have a larger flypopulation. And then we also have reusable
traps. Yeah, okay, howfar away is it? Twenty feet thirty
(05:14):
feet and give me an idea.Yeah, twenty feet is good. Okay.
It depends on your wind patterns. You deferently don't want to downwind of
it, but yeah, twenty feetaway, and then keep an eye on
the way the wind is blowing.Yeah, okay, So I had a
call yesterday and recommended the fella goto rescue dot com, knowing you had
a lot of fly traps. Hehad lives out in the country. Sounds
(05:38):
like a farm. He was controllingall his flies fairly well, except for
horse flies. That's why I askedabout different species. Do these traps take
care of all species? Or isthis the common fly? Or so the
outdoor fly trap captures more of thecommon nuisance fly. Okay, it doesn't
(05:58):
do the horse fly. So though, any flies that are seeking a meal
of blood, meaning they're going tobite you or your animals, that is
so horse flies, that's a that'sa different it's a different animal. You're
right, it is a different species, and so that one is not going
to be caught in the outdoor traps. But our visual or sticky ones that
you put out in your deck andpatio, those do catch the horsewie.
(06:19):
I was right. I kind ofguessed. I told them I was guessing.
So I told him I was guessing, So I was, I was
okay, all right, well thatsounds good. We start outside, and
if you find flies indoors, it'sprobably because you're missing some clocking or have
some openings and your home isn't thatenergy efficient anyway, So tighten your home
(06:43):
up a little bit and that willhelp. But if they're inside. You
said you had three different different sticktype traps, you got one you want
to recommend. So our newest oneis flypad. What's nice about that one
is that it has a touch stakesurface, so it's a sticky trap,
but you won't get your hands caughtin all the glue and gross. It
(07:04):
has ridges and the glue is onlyinside those ridges, so that's really nice
for you can stick it on surfaces. And then we also have trapped sticks,
meaning they're they're more of a cylindershape that has blue on it.
Yeah, and so you can hangthose, you know, if you want
to hang those up by you know, your windows or in your kitchen or
by your back door. Generally peopleare getting flies in because people, you
(07:27):
know, you're you're you're entering andexiting your house, and that is when
flies will also kind of out ofyour house. So, yeah, what
attracts them they don't smell, whatattracts the flies to them to inside your
home or no, to the trapitself, I'm sorry, Oh oh yeah,
So it's all the grade tractors inthere, the ingredients, what it
(07:50):
mimics, what they what they eitherlike to breed in or what they like
to eat. Okay, right, but you know you think about what flies
what you fly? Find flies around? You find them around your garbage,
You find them around you know, your your dog waste, anything like that.
You know around chicken coop. Theythey love they low animal fe season.
They love garbage and they love lovethose things. I mean that's where
(08:13):
that's that's where they breed. Soyour website is rescued dot com. And
before I let you go, Igot to ask you about yellow jackets and
wasp because we are just about inthe season. I've seen a couple in
our geographic area in the last probablyweek or two that ran some ground hornets.
But how do we control yellow jacketsand wasp around our house? Oh,
(08:37):
you're right, Garry, they areready to pop. It is high
season. We've got our our fieldscientists. We monitor our yellow jacket populations
around Spokane, Washington area. Andin just nine days we had a trap
filled all the way up. Ninehundred yellow jackets in a trap. And
that is that is beyondful. Thatmeans they are fighting over their buddies just
(09:01):
to get in there because there's noroom. It's it's it's been wild.
And that was just in nine daysand that those traps were pulled I think
on Thursday, and so it's it'sbeen it has been wild. So we
have different solutions for yellow jackets. We have the one that everyone knows that
me on yellow cylinder, that's thereusable yellow jacket trap. That one is
the one that we've been monitoring withand is then full in nine days.
(09:24):
That means they're ready. They maybeare not bothering you right this moment,
but you're seeing them there. Ohyeah. Basically they need moisture and survive.
And so if they are finding thatin nature right now, there may
not be bothering you, but themoment it drives up, right, they
will be there because then now theywant Now they want your your drink,
right drinking, they're gonna want they'regonna want the sugar from it, and
(09:46):
they're gonna want the moisture. Yeah, yeah, you're running your sprinkler or
anything like that, They're gonna beall over the lawn. At the moment
the their moisture sources and nature dryup, that's when you see them,
so are area coming August to midSeptember, maybe late September, and oh
my gosh, you can't sit outside, so that trap goes outside then,
(10:11):
And that one was a similar concept. It's going to It's a very powerful
lure, so you do not whatis the yellow jacket trap and the Hawaii
trap depending on where you are inthe country, that's where you're going to
find them in the stores. There'sthe classic one and then there's the one
that does more species for your area, Gary in the East. So those
two traps, you don't want tohang them right over your barbecue. You
(10:33):
don't want to hang them right whereyou are sitting to try and eat outside
or trying to enjoy life, becauseyou're going to be drawing them to that
trap. You don't want to drawthem to you. So you want to
put those further out into your yard, draw them away from where you want
to be sure. And then wealso we also have a trapstick, much
like we do with the flies. We have a trap stick that is more
of that visual lure, and that'sgoing to pick up your stragglers that are
(10:56):
on in your deck, your patio, that area. That's a sticky trap,
but you put that I got mysight. Yeah, closer, So
you kind of do that push pullthing like we do with the flyes.
You do that with with the yellowdocks lost as well. Well, I'll
tell you what those yellow jackets areannoying where they get right in that POPCN.
I'm always scared of it. I'mgonna get stung doing it, having
a swig of pop or something.Yeah, so, oh yeah, many
(11:20):
of people have been stung on theline. Oh yeah, no questions.
So I know you got all kindsof wonderful traps for insects and stuff.
I recommend them off and on thisshow and to my friends. And where
do people find a good selection ofI notice in the stores. You're you're
getting more and more of the trapsin the stores, which is awesome.
(11:43):
Most hardware stores I know carry them. Yeah, most hardware stores. And
yeah, more hardware stores and lonand garden centers. We are also in
several big box stores as well.So it's if you got a rescue dot
com, we have all of ourlook She's listed. You can just type
in your zip code and find them. Sure, and folks can also see
(12:03):
all the other traps we've talked abouta few and we've been talking to you
more this year, and I reallylike it because insects are a problem year
round, there's no question. Yeah, oh absolutely, Alyssa, thanks for
joining us today. I appreciate itagain. Folks is Rescue dot com and
