Speaker 1 (00:33):
Well, it's weekend. Welcome aboard. You're at home with Gary
Slivan as we take your calls about your home projects,
whether it's maintenance, repair or some problem that you're battling.
And if you don't know what problems you have yet,
we were just talking about doing a kind of an
overview of your house, not only just outside, but even
(00:54):
the inside. I've got some tips I want to share
with you today on that too, just little projects that
you know, you don't pay much attention to, but they
can really you know, for under probably twenty bucks and
a little bit of your time can really save you money,
can save a problem from happening in your home. We'll
(01:17):
cover that today too. At the bottom of the hour,
we're going to talk about a rhino shield coating for
your home versus painting, and we'll also take calls regarding
your home. All right, that being said, our number is
eight hundred eight two three eight two five five and
Jim welcome.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yes, sir, Hey Gary. We have a problem with ground moles,
and I've seen a lot of different things and you know,
as the winner progresses on, you notice them more so
than when you're mowing the lawn and kind of smashes
it all down. But I just wondered what the best
way is that. You know, they have the traps, but
(01:58):
is there a better way. Is there some kind of
natural way to do it?
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Or well, you know, I've always felt that the traps
are probably the best way, but there are natural repellents
to two moles. Castor oil would be one castor oil,
dish soap water and spring it actually into the tunnels.
(02:23):
Moles don't like that. Now, you've got to remember there's
multiple types of tunnels, and you've got to be looking
for the ones that are active. There's the surface tunnels,
which is what you're seeing, and those are kind of
just like feeding tunnels, but pushing them down sometimes I
(02:45):
know it's too cold to get a long chair out,
but you know, back in the day when I had them,
you could push them down, sit out there. Within a
half hour, you'd see him push it back up and
you'd know right away that that's an active tunnel, and
that's where you could apply your app That's where you
go to apply your cash oil that we're just talking about.
But underneath that there's also some deeper tunnels where they
(03:10):
may be going to other food sources. Like if your
house is near a woods, that that that deeper tunnel
may take you back into the woods and then bring
them back into your yard. There's nesting areas, so they
would you know, with the feeding tunnels in the nesting areas,
they would you know, So those those are the types
(03:32):
of tunnels that are under there. But you know, the
old giger would like a pitchfork vibrations, set that pitchfork
down into the tunnel, which will get the mole. That's
been one I've used periodically. And I'll tell you another
(03:55):
thing is sometimes you know, you'll chase a mole for
a while. I had them one time, like I said,
and I ended up getting them coming back from vacation,
and you could see the moles were active when I
was gone, and literally I could see the tunnel being
moved up as we were unpacking the car and went
and got a spade and took care of it. So
(04:17):
you know, yeah, I noticed I noticed those.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Uh, there's some areas where the ground is you know,
it's like the geometry of like a soup can or something,
and then and it's you know bunched up there is
that like their entry point there or probably some places
higher than others.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah. Yeah, And you'll have people that tell you you
can flood them out and you know, stick a garden
hose down there, and sometimes you can not all the time,
does it work. I'm gonna talk about a lot of
the non trap things and there you know, some people
swear by it and other people say, I tried that
didn't work. But there's there's even uh I've had people
(05:04):
call me and put a hose on a gas mower
and run the carbon monoxide down into the tunnels and
kill the moles. They're flooding it with a hose. You know,
there's all kinds of ways to get them out there,
and I mentioned a few, and some people have more
success than others that I've always had more success pretty
(05:26):
much just trapping them.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Okay, alrighty, I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
All right, good luck to you all right back to
day bye bye. Now where I live now, we have
hawks and that I think keeps my mole population down
at a minimum. I'm not suggesting you go out and
get yourself some hawks, but you know, there are natural
(05:53):
pressures which take care of those two. But they can
be tough. There's some specialist companies that literally specialize in
mole trappings, and they probably know more about moles than
we would ever dream about knowing. And talking to them
and talking about their philosophy and how to trap the
(06:14):
mole and get the moles out, I mean, make your
head spin and you realize why it's so difficult. But
back in the day, you know, there used to be
that homemade recipe, the old dish soap and castor oil,
and they do have concentrates now like that in the
hardware stores. And spraying that yard out it did a
(06:37):
pretty effective job of keeping them out of your yard.
They would go to your neighbor's yard, but they keep
out of your yard. Also, a lot of people always
talk about, well, you know, if you kill their food source,
you won't have moles. Well that's true, but okay, but
(07:00):
their food sources grubs. We all like to get rid
of the grubs, but they're also worms, and we don't
want to get rid of the worms. And so you know,
I don't know if that's really a good idea to
start getting rid of their food source, because your lung
will suffer without the verification that's mean taking place by worms.
(07:20):
So you've got to be careful of how you attack them.
I do go back to the trap. I think that's
a very very effective way of eliminating them. All right, again,
our numbers eight hundred eighty two, three eighty two, five five.
When I was talking about little projects, and this is
about as little as you can get, but might save
(07:41):
you a problem when you start looking at things that
are are not disrepairs, some of you'd probably never even notice.
In fact, don't laugh, don't laugh. But what was last
time you really looked at the doorstoppers in your house?
I know never. Well, I got this note because I
(08:03):
noticed one the other day and it was bent. It
was in a hallway that was going to the garage.
The door gets a lot of activity. It also gets
a lot of push and shoving, slamming and everything else.
And that door stopper was probably not really centered into
(08:24):
the center of the door when the house was built, probably,
and that doorstopper now had been hit and they went
to the side, a little bit, hit a little more,
a little more to the side. So I got down
and I looked, and it's loose, right, it's loose. And
I went around and started checking other door. So I
(08:45):
found like four door stops now you're like, Wow, you're
gonna get all excited about replacing a doorstop. I was
not excited about doing that, but it had to be
done because if you don't and you got kids an
in and out of the door, you know, you know
that doorknobs going through that drywall, at some point it's
(09:07):
gonna happen. And there's all different kinds of doorstops. There's
doorstops that fit on the hinge at the top. They
can be adjusted. There's some that go into the baseboard.
There's some that are solid, there's some that are springs.
There's some that go on the floor. You choose the
one you want. But if you have some that are
(09:29):
not properly aligned, or maybe that spring is you know,
really beat up, it's really not doing his job anymore,
it's time to replace him. And they're not that expensive,
and there's certainly five minutes of work. I mean, it's
you know, per durse doorstop. It's not a big deal,
(09:51):
but it's something you might want to check because patching
a hole in a drywall that can be a big deal.
There's an easy way to do that too. Maybe we'll
talk about that next. Here's our number. You got it.
It's eight hundred and eight two three, eight two five

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Welcome, Good morning, Gary.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Asking a question about insulation and Florida.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Okay, I've been a long time listener. I'm I'm a
longtime listener, and I remember you one time saying something
about you may have to turn the.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Vapor barrier towards the wall in Florida.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Is that correct?
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Well, it would be the southernmost parts of Florida. Yes,
So again, the moisture barrier usually goes to the warmest direction. Okay.
So if it's living the Midwest and you got an
attict that vapor bearer's facing the ceiling of the bedroom upstairs, Okay,
(13:58):
so it's pointing down in other parts of the country,
and usually I don't know exactly where the line of
demarcation is. But let's just say Miami Fort Myers, maybe
up southern Texas. That gets flipped around. You know where
(14:21):
the moisture barrier, the warmest area is pretty much outside,
facing the outside part of the home, and that's where
the moisture barrier would be pointed. But like northern Florida, No,
it would still be the same as it would be
in the Midwest. Alison, say again, he broke up. I
(14:44):
think his phone died. Hopefully he'll back and he dropped off. Okay, Yeah,
so you know the rule of thumb, I mean an insulation. Uh,
there's a couple. There's multiple rules. But number one a
vapor barrier above gray not in the basement. And I'll
talk about that in a second. There should be a
(15:05):
vapor barrier, and it should be pointed towards the inside
part of the house, whether it's in the attic and
it's pointing to the inside part of the house, when
it's behind the wall pointing vapor barrier, the paper or
the plastic face in the inside part of the house.
Once it gets below grade, no vapor barrier, and people
will go like, well, what the heck, You're always talking
(15:26):
about the amount of water vapor that's coming in through
the basement walls. And that's true. Now think about this,
this was maybe thirty years ago. Yeah, maybe a little
more vapor barriers and basements were put in and then
literally wrap the walls in plastic and then put up
(15:47):
the dry wall. Well, if you're getting eight to ten
gallons of water vapor coming through that concrete block wall
or poured foundation and it's hitting it's in you know,
the insulation and it's plastic and a vapor barrier, and
condensation would occur. You have organic material behind that wall
(16:09):
and you have wet insulation. Remember all the mold problems.
Still have mold problems, but remember how many mold problems
we used to have about thirty years ago. We're really
sensitive to that. There was people, you know, and that's
when we said we got this vapor barrier and we're
(16:30):
holding all that water behind the hole. I remember having
conversations with Owen's Corning A builders showed like, why do
we do this if we're finding all this mold? Why
you know, before we finished a basement and we had
the water vapor come in, we might have had a
humid or maybe even a smelly basement, but it wasn't
(16:54):
infested with mold behind the walls. We're creating our own problem.
And it was code. And finally the codes have changed.
We're now not even using a vapor barrier. We're allowing
that water vapor to come in. But you know it's
(17:15):
going to come through anyway. It's going to come in
behind the finished wall. But then it can find access
into the room. It can penetrate through the drywall up
through the ceiling. And then let's control it once it's
in the area. In other words, once it's in the basement,
how can we control it. Well, we can control it
through ventilation. We're talking about the easy breathe a lot.
(17:41):
How that's pulling air out of the lowest reaches of
our basement, and that is the ones that have you know,
radon moisture pollutants. They heavy, they sit on the bottom.
The easy bree pulls that out and then the air
that's condition And we're opening the garage door and we're
(18:03):
in and out of the house. We got our fresh
air supply is pulled down into the basement to replace
that air. The secret is pull it out, pull the
fresh air air down into the area and you've made
that air exchange, so we're we you know, that's kind
of the rules of insulation in terms of vapor barriers. Now,
(18:26):
Like I said, when you get into areas and it's
a it's a small percentage of the people that we're
speaking to right now, but I think it came up
a couple times in conversations. You get down into the
the lovely weather year round or the tropical weather in
(18:47):
the summer, it's kind of always warm down there. It's
usually always warmer outside, and so that whole vapor bearer
kind of gets flipped where the vapor bearers actually point
to the outside, not to the inside part. We're minimizing
the moisture content that even gets start. We're holding the
(19:09):
cool air in. So that's what that little story was about,
and I wanted to pass that along. Thank you very
much for that call, Gary, I appreciate it. Sorry your
phone went out. Coming up next, we're going to talk
about a product is called Rhino Shield. If you're thinking
about maybe painting your home this year. There are alternatives,
and they have a twenty five year warranty and they
(19:33):

All right, back in it, we go at Home with
Gary Sullivan. I was mentioning before if this is the
year that you're thinking about maybe painting your home, or
maybe you find yourself painting your home every five or
six years, you might think about alternatives, and I certainly
have and you may have heard me mentioned or people
(22:58):
call and ask about a called rhino shield. Well, we
happen to have Gerald Hall on today. He is with
rhino Shield. We'll learn a little bit about this wonderful
product in Gerald Welcome at Home with Gary Sullivan.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
Hey, good morning, Gary. How are you doing this Saturday.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
I'm doing great. I'm doing great. Why don't you tell
everybody first what rhino shield is. That's a good way
to start.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
Absolutely, thanks for having me. Well, rhinos Shield's been around
for a little more than two decades, and as you said, Gary,
a lot of your listeners are probably may have heard
about it, but a lot of them probably haven't. And
Rhino Shield is not paint. It's a ceramic elast americ
coding system for the outside of your home, homework business
quite quite honestly, and quite honestly, it's just a coating
(23:46):
that's made up of better ingredients. So it's made with
ceramic microspheres from three M and it goes on about
eight to ten times sticker than paint, and we back
it with a twenty five year warranty. That's the biggest
differentiator is that it's got a twenty five year transferable warranty.
If you're sell your home in ten or fifteen years,
the warranty goes with it. So it's just it's a
ceramic coating system. We've been putting on homes for, like said,
(24:07):
more than two decades. And it seems like everybody's getting
into ceramics now, but we've been doing it for a
long time.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Sure, So I guess one of the questions I was
going to ask is what's the difference between this and paint?
And I think you answered that they're really not comparatible.
The only thing they have in common is they coat
the substrates of your home fair enough.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
Yeah, that's that's a very fair question. You know, we've
been I remember, you know, thirty some years ago when
I bought my first house, about every two or three years,
i'd be painting the outside of it, the trim because
we've had an older wood home, and you know, paint
would cover it, but then again it goes away. And
you know, paint most paints are you know, big box
paints are sixty percent more water and their business model
(24:48):
in the big paint world is planned obsolescens. They want
you buying that, they need you buying the product every
five to seven years. So at Rhino Shield we can't
compete with that. There's too many big corporations. So we've said,
let's make a product it is different, that will last
for twenty five years and in the painting cycle. And
so that's what we've been doing since just around nineteen
(25:09):
ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
So you gave two good buzzwords. You said ceramic and
so there's got to be some insulation value there as
it reflects heat if my understanding on ceramic coatings is correct.
And the other word you used was a last America.
And we started off today's show talking about indoor nail
(25:33):
pops through drywall and molding's pulling away from the drywall
our homes. Drying out a last americ means it's flexible,
so it stays on the surface longer.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
Correct correct. So two things, you know, the ceramics in it,
they do have an insulating property. Our product dries eight
to ten times thicker than your average paint. So we've
had third party testing. Our product puts our value equivalent
on the outside of your home of six point eight nine,
so it's going to keep it warmer in this are
(26:05):
cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. And
then in the elastomeric part of it, there are two
real components. That one that has to breathe your coating
has to let the moisture that the stove steam and
the shower steam and all that stuff. It's got to
get outside of your house otherwise you get mold and
issues and things like that. So our product is fully permeable,
goes on thirteen point one six to sixteen on the
(26:25):
ASTM test, which anything over at ten is fully permeable.
And the other thing, it's gotta be able to stretch
and move. I was in Cincinnati this week and travel
all over the country. We have dealers all over the
United States. It gets really cold there and it gets
really hot in the summer, and so your coating needs
to stretch and breathe with it. And uh, that's why
that's one of the biggest Uh, one of the biggest
(26:47):
points about rhinoshield is our elongation is how it's measured
and tested, and we have a four hundred percent elongation
and stretch rate.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Wow, that's strong. That's strong. So tell me about surfaces
that you paint. Obviously, would it goes on wood surfaces?
I mean, could it go on brick, couldn't go on sightings,
kind of go on metal?
Speaker 4 (27:10):
Yep, yeah, you hit all of those. So are you
know stucco, brick, metal, you cement block, hardy board. My
house is brick. We painted it. So yeah, Really, there's
not a surface other than log homes. We don't do
log homes. There's just too much oil and creasoda and
those you can coat them, we just can't warranty them.
Nothing's going to really stick to that, right. But other
(27:31):
than that, there's really not many surfaces I can think
of that we can't coat. And so you know, when
you put our aps are we have a couple of
different primers depending on the substrate for wood and for
vinyl and for metal, but we coat just about everything
under the sun.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
You talked about a twenty five year warranty that is transferable.
What's that cover? What is that warranty?
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Yeah, so that that warranty covers cracking, chipping, and peeling,
which is the three biggest is shoes with paint. You know,
the cracking of it, the potential strength you know, our
products have up to depending on the the base coat
and style. You know, it takes up the seven hundred
and twenty psim to crack it, right, which gets into
the chipping and the peeling as well. As soon as
(28:17):
it breaks. As soon as any coating cracks or has
an opening for Mother Nature's moisture and sun and salt
and all of those things to get in there, it
cracks and then it's it's gains a short time before
it's game over.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Right. Well, I've said it since the day I started
doing this thirty nine years ago, as water always wins.
And you know, so if you've got a ceiling of
anything on there and it's compromised, water will defeat you.
Speaker 4 (28:43):
You are not wrong. Mother's Mother nature is undefeated, and yeah,
it will be that we can hold her off for
twenty five years.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Yeah. Now with Rhiner's Shield, if somebody's interested, this isn't
something going and buy the store. This isn't applied product.
Rhino Shield has the product and they do the app
location correct.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
Correct. Yeah. So at Rhino Shield, we as manufacturer, we
stand behind our twenty five year warranty in large part
because we only distribute our products through authorized certified Rhino
Shield dealers. You know, anybody can paint a home and
there's nothing wrong with that. Not everybody's a good fit
for Rhino Shield. If you're a do it yourself or
you're not our customer, right, and then there's nothing wrong
(29:25):
with that. Everybody's his choices. But we choose to distribute
our products through authorized exclusive dealers so that we can
control the quality of the installation. And that's how we
take it to market, authorized dealers.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
So you spray it on because of the viscosity, I guess.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
Yeah, yeah, our product, the installation of it is no,
not really different than paint in that we are really
methodical in our prep. That's you know, seventy percent of
every job. As you know, dear you've been doing this
longer than me. It is about preparation, right, But the
spraying of the product, we use wider tips and a
little bit you know, stronger equipment in our sprayers typically,
(30:04):
but the application of it is sprayed, we do have
a unique kind of a pattern that we make sure
we spray it in because again, our product is thicker
and we've got to make sure, you know, our guys
go around with mill gages and make sure we're spraying
it on at the right thickness. Otherwise, you know, you
don't spray it on thicker, you get you don't spray
it on thick enough, you get two failures, right.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
Right, right? Well, the neat thing about this first of
the product, but also you're controlling all aspects of it,
and you're warranting it. So you're creating the product, you're
selling the product, you're applying the product, and you're warranting
the product. So it's like one stop accountability. Do you
(30:44):
have any warranty issues? I mean, I mean, does it
ever fail?
Speaker 4 (30:50):
Oh? Sure that you know, if if anybody that tells
you their product has never failed, I would really be
concerned about that. The authenticity of that, you know, home
improvement doesn't have the best repetation when it comes to
transparency and honesty about what the product will and won't
do well, how much does it cost? And that's why
on rhinoshield dot com you can go in there and
(31:10):
you can download a buyer's guy that answers the five
most common question is how much it costs? Does this
stuff really work? Can I get it in any color?
Tell me about the warranty and installation process and so, Yes,
we've had issues, Gary, and we will in the future
with warranties. Warranty doesn't mean you'll never have a problem.
If your car breaks down under warranty, how do you feel? Typically,
I feel relieved that I have that warranty, right, And
(31:32):
so when we have a moment where we have services
and we do and typically for one of a handful
of reasons. A lot of times it could be that
the installation wasn't done properly. We don't get a ton
of warranty services for that. But our installers are humans.
They have better days than others, right, And sometimes there's
environmental conditions when they're spray. Maybe they spray when it
(31:53):
was a little too windy, and the application doesn't go
on thick enough, or maybe the substrate an underlie issue
with moisture or some other issues that really aren't coatings related.
But if you don't find those issues and you put
a coating over top of a sighting that's kind of
moisture issue. You know this as well as I do.
Nothing's going to stick to that right right, Like you said,
(32:14):
water is undefeated. So those are typically the issues that
we have with installations. So we did have an issue
where it was the sighting issue. There was a sighting
that was manufactured with really wide ranging phs and normally
this type of cement board is pretty consistent. That's not
a Rhino Shield issue. But we actually worked with the
subdivision and a structural engineer to figure it out. We
(32:39):
actually ended up developing a new primer for that siding.
So you know, our Rhino Shield dealers are pretty good
at what they do. They want to make sure our
customers are heavy. But yeah, it's a short answer to
your question is yeah, yeah, Rhino Shield has had moments before,
but every product has and so that's why we stand
behind them.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Well, so at twenty five years, do you fall off
the cliff or does it keep going, well, you.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Know, Gary, we're twenty six years old now.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
So okay, I gotcha, I got yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
But you can see you can go on rhinoshield and
we've got some customer videos that we shot in twenty
twenty one and they were from twelve to eighteen year installations,
and so now those are fifteen to twenty one year installations.
N you know, we the way that people ask me
all the time, will if you're home, I've been around
for twenty five years, how can you say as a
twenty five year warranty. We can say that because we
(33:27):
use independent third party testing companies to validate this because
in a lab, you know, in a lab situation, no,
my coding won't fail. But we don't install our codings
in lab situations. Right, That's like, you know, perfect scenarios
in the academic world. But this is the real world,
and so we use third party tests to validate and
give us the peace of mind that we can stand
behind it. And all of that testing data also front
(33:50):
page of rhinoshield dot com. We try to be completely
transparent because if I, you know, I said, home improvement
doesn't have the best reputation, so taking someone's word for
something when you're doing a large project on your home
is pretty risky. That's why we put all the data
and all the science right on our website so you
can see it well.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
One of the things everybody wants to know now is cost.
But it looks like you're going to if you don't
use a rhino shield. You may paint your house four
or five times during twenty four years, and labor's expensive
when you're having it painted or coded or changing the
colors and the curb appeal and everything. How does rhino
(34:28):
shields stack up? I know you're getting more you're getting
more quality with the rhino shield versus paint, but where's
that price stack up the paint?
Speaker 4 (34:38):
Sure, that's the busiest page on our website and the
most commonly asked question at home shows or is how
much does it cost? And you know a lot of
folks in home improvement trying and avoid that question, and
we just take a different tag. Rhino shield is initially
more expensive than just painting your house two to two
and a half times typically okay, But over time rhino
(34:59):
shield will be even if you just do three or
four paint jobs in that twenty five year period, you know,
Rhinoshield is going to save you thousands, if not tens
of thousands of dollars, and our other sevenefits can share. Yeah,
and not only that it's saving money, I mean it's
it's a hassle to paint your house. No, No, it's
not fun. You're cutting back bushes, you're taping up windows,
(35:19):
and it's inconvenient. And so that's why we want to
do it once every twenty five years, not four or
five times. And customer after customer will tell us that
they watch their neighbors painting their house, you know, two
or three or four times, and their house still looks
good because they have rhinoshield on it.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Excellent. Our website, by the way, folks, you can get
all kinds of great information and see if it's right
for you. It's rhinoshield dot com. And well that's enlightening.
And I'm sure your business has grown over those two
decades just by the quality of the product.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
Absolutely, Gay, We've been very fortunate. We have we have
loyal customers that have you know, use this several times,
moving from home to home, and our dealerships have you know,
grown from twenty five years ago. Now we have dealers
that still have the same paint crews seventeen eighteen years
later that are working with them. You know, the Rhino
Shield family is pretty close knit and uh, but we
(36:16):
we add new dealers every year. We just brought on
the Bay Area and we brought on Miami and we
still have a few markets open. But we've been very
fortunate because our customers. You know, you know this in
home improvement, right, if you don't do a good job,
everybody knows quickly.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Yep, yep. And boy, I'll tell you what, uh, I know.
We got a couple of stations out in the Bay
Area and they're always fighting that uh you know, salt
water mist and everything that's tough on any type of
pain or coating, and that's a great layer. Yeah, rh Yeah,
that's a great place for Rhinos Shield, no question.
Speaker 4 (36:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:50):

back ahead and we go. You're at home with Gary
Sullivan and we're talking home improvement. If you'd like to
join us, we certainly have a spot for you. Our
phone number is eight hundred eight two three eight two
five five. You go ahead and grab a line. I've
been talking about some just real basic home improvement things today,
things to keep an eye on. I was talking about
(40:29):
the doorstops in your house, you know when they start
fanning all of a sudden, doorknobs start going through drywall,
and how easy it is to replace those other things
to just kind of work on the maintenance, especially we're
kind of getting into spring cleaning season. If you have
invested in granite over the last probably fifteen years or so,
(40:53):
it's become very very hot, and a lot of people
maybe not redoing the kitchen, but redoing the countertop up
to a granite. Do you regularly clean that, do you
polish it, do you seal it? Do you just kind
of let it be just sponge it off. I bring
(41:18):
that up because some granites are more porous than others.
I believe it's the darker the granite. The more I
goof that up all the time, I think the dark
granites are more pores or less porse. I can't remember.
It doesn't matter, because I want you to do a
(41:39):
test anyway. Take a teaspoon or tablespoon and just you know,
a dollop of water in a teaspoon or tablespoon, put
it on the counter top and watch it for a minute.
You should noticeably not see any change to that water
(42:02):
if that countertop is sealed and not porous, if you
see it leaching into the granite because it's stone, we
need to think about sealing that now. Granted, countertop doesn't
need to be sealed, you know, every six months or
(42:22):
anything like that. But you know, maybe if you have
a piece of porse granted, depending on where it's from,
depending on the color, different porosities, you could be leaving
yourself open to having a stain in granted, especially if
you have like a white or you know, white and brown.
(42:46):
You know, you spill red wine on it or something,
and it's going to be very noticeable. So we want
to make sure not only is it cleaned, but also
that it's sealed. There's some great cleaners out there. Jaws
makes one. There's some great seilers out there. Granite Gold
makes one. There's also a polish because a lot of
(43:09):
times I think people equate ceiling that granite countertop with
rejuvenating machine to it, and machine on grantite is actually buffed.
It's a stone that is polished. And so if you
(43:30):
look at the backside of that countertop, you'll see it
just looks like stone and the top looks beautiful. It's
like a piece of art. And over time, you know,
we get cooking oils and all kinds of stuff going
on in the kitchen, it just gets dull. Maybe it
gets smeared a little bit. But you can clean it
(43:50):
and put a polish on it. And that polish comes
in wipes, it comes in a spray and if you're
you know, very picky the way you want that counter
tough to look, polish is a great thing to do.
You can go ahead and clean it and then polish
it once a week. I'll tell you it always it
(44:12):
has that pop where you can see all the different colors,
and then once a year or so, usually before the holidays,
I'll just put a doll up of water on there
and see how well sealed it is. So that's another
thing on the Little Adventures. You can take a look
