Speaker 1 (00:01):
All right, welcome now our number three at home with
Gary Salvin, and the clouds have crept in a little bit,
but still a plenty nice day. It's in the sixties,
so no chance of you know, not getting outside and
taking a look at some of the projects you might
tackle or maybe even tackle a couple Happy to talk
to you about it. It's five one, three seven nine,

(00:22):
fifty five hundred. We're talking about your home and we'll
take your calls right here on fifty five KRC Detalk station. Well,
the weekends upon us. Welcome, you're at home with Gary Salvin,
taking it to another weekend. Get a few things done
around the home, and if you'd like to join us,
please do. We've got a couple open lines for you.
It's eight hundred eight two three eight two five five.

(00:45):
Won't be long. We'll start talking a lot about paints
and refurbishing front doors and well, I don't know, maybe
even sprucing up the patios, sealing some paver stones.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
We've already had the deck questions.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
We have had a couple deck questions. I guess really
with a lot of the rain ceiling decks. Is in fact, Danny,
you bring up a good thing I mentioned a couple
of weeks ago. If you're having an area with a
lot of rain that's been a spring that's kind of
slow to start, and you're looking for service providers that
are going to build a deck or seal a deck,

(01:20):
or paint your house or whatever, get on the phone,
get your estimates and get that book now, because I'm
sure a lot of people are just waiting for the
weather to break. And when the weather breaks, it's probably
too late. It's not going to get done when you
wanted to get done. So get your bids and get
that date settled and go from there. All right, again,

(01:41):
you got the phone number, Danny's ready to take your
call again. It's eight hundred and eight two three eight
two five five and Scott laid us off.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Welcome, hiy Gary, How you doing this morning?

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Doing fine? Thank you?

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Hey. I got a question about with the advancements of
your high quality paints nowadays, there's still a place for
flow troll. I used to use that and a lot
of a lot of paints, and I've noticed a lot
of the high quality paints right, you know, seem to
brush out pretty good anymore, right, I wonder.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, there still is a place for it, because they're
not all high quality paints. But here's a classic example.
This was probably fifteen years ago. I remember we talked
a lot about additives, the m one mild aside, the insecticide,
the float troll, and I asked the paint guy or
the chemist that I think it was Sherman Williams one time.

(02:37):
I said, so are these things I don't know? Do
you do? You recommend them? Right? Some verbiage like that,
and he said, you know, if we wanted that in
our paint area, we would have put it in our
paint And I said, well, here's the problem. And I
think you'll agree with me. If it's in the summertime

(02:58):
and it's a new hour and your painting, you know,
maybe on a side of the house, obviously not indirect sunlight,
but let's say it is pretty hot and that paint
dries so fast you can't get it off the brush.
So there's a there's a place for it that that
keeps it the paint more active longer where you can

(03:20):
brush it out. But probably a couple of years after
that conversation, Sharan Williams paint uh their top of the
line back then was the duration paint and it was good.
It had a mild side on it that was very good.

(03:40):
It was gonna last at least ten years. It's good paint.
It's good paint, still good paint. The problem with it
is a lot of people it just drive fast, and
so many brands did. And then Shirrian Williams introduced a
paint called Emerald and the Emerald paint has a slower

(04:01):
dry time. So when I'm always talking about you know,
read the labels, see what the paint's going to do.
That's that's really important. You probably wouldn't need to use
the float roll in the Emerald paint because it doesn't
dry on the brush, even in a sunny location. They've
also added a product and I guess it would be

(04:21):
a surfactant where the paint will allow rain to sheet
off it faster, so it's not going to dry and
leave water marks. So they're always improving it. In your
top of your line paints, I would say you just
need to ask those questions or do your research on
what they'll do, and it'll have dry to the touch

(04:43):
time and if it says ten minutes, it's probably more
like five has been. You know, my experience if it
says it drives the touch in a half hour, it
probably drives a touch in fifteen minutes, which isn't bad
at all. I mean, you can brush out anything fifteen minutes.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
And the reason I was asking, I'm getting ready to
undertake a kitchen cabinet painting job, and I'm going to
use the probably the best paint I can buy that
I just wanted. I want. I don't want any brushstrokes
or anything like that.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
If I can help it, yep, I'll tell you one.
And and gosh, I've just watched paint improved so much
over the years. There used to be one of the
very first paints that looked like an enamel was called
Advantage nine hundred. I believe it was a Porter paint
product and which is now Pittsburgh Paints. And the problem

(05:38):
with that is that it dries too fast. And it
still dries really fast. I'll go back to the Sherwin
Williams line of paints. And I just uh a year
and a half ago, painted all the woodwork in the
house and was talking again to their chemist, who I
call a lot he's about to retire, and they have

(06:01):
a pain and check it out too it's expensive, it's
probably one hundred dollars a gallon, and it's it's a
your athane trimm enamel and it brushes out almost exactly
like an oil base, so you can really eliminate brush marks.

(06:24):
Some of your modified late taxi enamels they do okay,
but this trimming enamel will it'll be better and it
should be right right exactly.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
You just have to you have to stay on them
or you know, wet edge is hard to do when
you're doing a big area.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Like totally agree with you. But even if you buy
a quart of this and try it first, god, you know,
to make sure it's you know what you're looking for.
I'd highly recommend it it. It just did a marvelous job.
And one of the best oil basing animals back in
the day I used to use was again a Porter

(07:03):
paint product called Gliptex Glip text enamel, and that stuff
would look like porcelain once you put it on. And
I think that your thane trim enamel. It's the Sherman
Williams Emerald, your thane trim enamel. It brushed out, it
brushed out almost exactly like that.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
Is that is that a pretty wahable.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, it's exactly. It would be exactly
like the hardest enamel you've ever used in your life.
That's the way I describe it.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Okay, good deal, all right, sir. I appreciate your time
and love what you do.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Thank you, sir, take care bye bye, all right. Uh
eight hundred eight two three eight two five five. That's
our phone number. And maybe painting is in your future.
And a lot of times cabinet tree people look at
painting the cabinets rather than redoing your whole kitchen. You
got good solid wood cabinets, maybe we're gonna just paint

(07:59):
amount out. And that's a trend, kind of a old
stick in the mud. I kind of still like those
cherry cabinets or something along those lines, and that almost
feels sinful to paint them. But you've got some you know,
walted stained cabinets. You just want to brighten up the
you know, the kitchen area. Uh, certainly you're gonna clean them,

(08:23):
you're gonna sand them, you're going to put a stain
killing primer on there. You're gonna put a an oil
hopefully an oil primer, and then again using one of
these high grade eurothane trimming amels. I mean, you can

(08:43):
use a a modified output of krillick enamel, but it
does dry, you know, sometimes too fast for some people.
Other times it's fine. You can also use a little
four inch about the size of a nickel and amateur roller.
I've seen people use those. And it's also all about

(09:05):
the brush. I mean, if you're going to use a
good your thane or water based enamel, a great polyester brush,
we'll give you a really you know, nice coating. So
it's not only just about the paint, it's also about
the applicator that you're using on there. I've seen people

(09:28):
just use these cheap brushes and it's just an absolute
waste of time. You can take the best paint in
the world and make it look terrible with a cheap brush.
You can take the cheapest paint and use a really
good brush and at least it make it look decent.
So give that some thought too, when you're getting your
supplies together. All right, you got the phone number, We
got a line open, grab it and we'll continue. You're

(09:49):

Let's go to Mike. Mike, Welcome, Hey Gary Reach.

Speaker 6 (12:34):
Great to hear you, guys. You got a little good information.
Now I got some. I got a couple of barn
doors in the back for a shed. And also the
railing in front of my house is gets pounded by son.
And what I have on there now is a man
O war spar varnish and it lasts about eight months
one year, and I got to stand it and go

(12:55):
over the whole thing all over again. I love the product.
I mean, it makes it makes everything look great. It's first,
but then before you know it, it's peeling, and I've
got to do it all over again. And what's time
is gonna last for a few years.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
One of the things you might do is look for
a marine ere thinge. It's just a spar your thane
is is acceptable? They got Hellsman's uh, which is a
min wax product and a spar your thane.

Speaker 6 (13:25):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
The only water based spar your thane I know of,
or I'm sorry, the only water based euthane that I
know of is made by Czar. It's an interior exterior.
It is a latex base, so it is. It has

(13:46):
a natural UV block in it. It's unlike a a
marine or a spar, but that might be an option
to Acrylics hold up much better against the sun than
a solvent. But I know I got a front door
not anymore because I painted. I got tired of playing
a game uh, and I had a Southwest and man,

(14:10):
that sun just cooked that thing and it had the
same problem. And I ended up putting a marine your
thane on it, and it really did last longer than
the spa your thing.

Speaker 6 (14:22):
Okay marine. Now, Now, as far as the gloss, it
turns out that if you if you have any shine
on there, it seems like it's worse. So it's better
to keep a sat like a statin.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Okay, that is what you'd want to go with it.
It really will help. And another thing, just a sidebar
here for other people listening. And this is a preventive maintenance.
And it's always hard to convince people to do preventive stuff.
But if you put on a code of whatever marine

(14:54):
your thinge spar your thing the way your thinge in spar,
your thing brings down the sun puts little tiny pinholes
in that coating. After about a couple of years, and
then you get the sun is actually hitting just on
the stain, so it bleaches it out. It starts breaking

(15:14):
down the grip of the your thane. But if you
did every two years, or even if you did it
every year and you went out, they at three m
I think makes a seven hundred grit sanding sponge, which
is very very very fine. Or you could use a
six hundred grit wet dry sandpaper and just dust over

(15:38):
that door and put another coat on it. If you
did that every other year every year, you probably never
have to strip it.

Speaker 6 (15:47):
Well that sounds good, and you know, I kind of
like the look of it. When it does wear a
little bit, it gets kind of a benchage, old fashioned look.
And then I paid over it. The only problem is
is that, like I said, it doesn't seem that long
before the bear wood is exposed again, and I'm there
starting all over. Yeah, you know, I wish something for

(16:09):
the last five years, but I gets no such thing.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Or get Yeah. Well, you know, it is all about
the facing of the sun. I mean, you have other people.
We'll talk about this and somebody will stop and say,
what's the what's the deal with your front door? Man,
I haven't coded mine in fifteen years? Face left.

Speaker 6 (16:30):
Yeah, yeah, it's basically I got. I got all the
afternoon hours from about twelve to four pounding on that door.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
So sure you don't have a store door up, do you.

Speaker 6 (16:42):
Uh, It's it's a medium heavy duty redwood. It's pretty heavy.
It's uh. I mean, it's just it's mainly the the
barn doors in the back, okay pounded and it's redwood.
You know, it looks beautiful when it's when it's first Absolutely,
It's just like I just wish that it would last
a little longer, so you know, right every year, I

(17:04):
don't have to go out there and put another coat
on there.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Well yeah, but uh, you know, really, when you think
about it, if the finish is in pretty good shape
and you're just hitting it with a six hundred and
seven hundred grit of wet dry paper and removing the
residue and putting another coat of spar yourthane on there.
When you think about it, that whole project take you
about two hours max.

Speaker 6 (17:26):
And uh, you're right, yeah, yeah, you're right.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
You'd behead of the game.

Speaker 6 (17:29):
What is the strongest product out there of all of
all the polyurethane type clear coats, what do you think
the strongest of every single one out there is?

Speaker 1 (17:39):
You know, I really I couldn't say, because I haven't
used them all, but I know one of the ones
I've used is again, it was a it was a
Porter paint. I don't even think you can get that
in California. It's a sub brand for Pittsburgh Paint. They
made a marine erothane which was really outstanding, but yeah,

(18:01):
a good quality. You might even check with a marina
if you're near the coast.

Speaker 6 (18:05):
And yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
Yeah, because you know, with wood boats and stuff, they
got a marine er thing and you know, you talk
about against the elements, you know, with all the reflection
of sunlight and everything, a marine earthing's pretty stout stuff.

Speaker 6 (18:21):
Yeah, the salt water and everything. Sure, Okay, well, hey,
thanks a lot. I really appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
All right, very good, thank you for the call. Take
care and again I'm not trying to dissuade you. Our
church has beautiful wood doors and the stain is becoming
very faded and it needs to be taken care of it.
I was talking to a couple of people. I said,
I know you're you're a purist, you want would, but

(18:48):
maybe thinking about painting them and really reducing your maintenance
might be the way to go. I'm not telling you
it's the way to go. It's another option, and that
pain will hold up much longer than a stain. And
you know, a euro thing finish or a spar euro
thing finish not straight pull of your thing, spar your

(19:10):
thing or marine your thing. We'll continue with your calls.

five five Beth, welcome.

Speaker 7 (22:39):
Hey, Hi there, Gary, I wanting to talk about painting fabinets.
Uh huh, And I heard that gentlemen I had got
I can't even hut more highly recommend than this. It's
called Heirloom Traditions Paint HPP all right company. They are
so over the top excellent. You don't need a primer,

(23:02):
you don't need anything you it comes you can. You
can order kits from them. They always have sales running.
They have so much help. When you call them, you
talk to a real person, and they're from Kentucky. It's
a pretty sweet accent.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
You hear there.

Speaker 7 (23:17):
But they are just over the top wonderful. The They
have a cleaner something to clean the cabinets. First. It's
called a I believe they call it.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
A d gloss or right. I was just going to
say do make that financial a little sticky, you know
that paint.

Speaker 7 (23:34):
Bos it's yeah, right, It cleans that surface. And they
even have it in wipes like like those little poll
top wipes that you can use, which I just used
recently when I was doing our fireplaces around. But that's
they They don't even you don't have to clean it
and then go back and wipe it clean and and

(23:55):
all that like you do with with other things where
you have to stop the action of cleaning. You can
just wipe it with that and start painting. You don't
have to do any prep other than that. It's beyond
Amazingloom heirloom traditions.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Paint okay is that HTP? Okay? HTP? And is that
a Is that a solvent based paint or is that
an acrylic based paint or.

Speaker 7 (24:26):
What it's water based? Cleans up with water and it goes.
It's amazing. They have little kits you can buy, say
a front door kit, and it will come with everything
you need to do your front door, not just cleaning
it but painting it. That They call it a brush
and roll technique, and they send you a little chip

(24:47):
brush and a roller, a pham roller, and you really
brush it on, then you lightly roll over it with
the phone roller. It's done in minutes. It's so quick,
it's right.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
I think one of his concerns, and I know what
your answer is, but one of his concerns is he
was concerned with the paints, you know, drying too fast
and just you know, showing some of the brush marks.
And the one I was talking about, I was talking
to how it's very very self leveling, doesn't dry real fast.
You get a brush it out real good. I'm assuming

(25:21):
the hairloom paints along those same lines. It doesn't dry
too fast. It allows you to brush out.

Speaker 7 (25:28):
Okay, it gives you a little bit of time to work.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
That's the key.

Speaker 7 (25:31):
You use that beglosser or slash cleaner on your cabinets first.
That takes away any of that the grease and things
like that. Ye, the kids, there's always a sale. So
you just watch. Oh and they have lots and lots
of videos you can watch.

Speaker 6 (25:50):
You name this.

Speaker 7 (25:50):
I believe paul a blank and Ship that started it.

Speaker 6 (25:53):
She's in the video.

Speaker 7 (25:54):
She shows you how to do everything, and you literally
there are videos for anything you want, okay that you
can call them. I accidentally did something I forget I
ordered wrong or something I called them like I said.
They had the wonderful Kentucky accent and they were just
so sweet to me, and it was it was adorable.

(26:15):
They were just they stopped that order. They took care.
I thought for sure they said, well you've already ordered,
it's too late like most places. But no, they were
real people that helped me. And I can't even highly
enough recommend.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
Well, I'll tell you what I'm gonna do. I'm I
will give them a call this week and I'll see
if I can get them on the show, because you know,
that's the kind of product idea. And I used to
have Sherman Williams on the show in the past and
we would all kind of learn a little bit. And
uh saw a call down there and what was her name?
Blank and ship was the last.

Speaker 7 (26:48):
Name Blankenship, I believe as Paula. Paula is the lady. Yeah,
and she's in all the videos there. There's a video
for anything you want. There's testimonials. They have a Facebook group.
They tell you how to mix paints, they show you
what colors will come out, they have color cards they'll
send you.

Speaker 8 (27:05):
There.

Speaker 7 (27:06):
Just it's beyond. It's like real people. You know, you're
not used to getting real people anymore when.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
Right right, And I'll tell you bet, that's how I
originally found dice coatings that I talk about, Ah, the
roller rock and spreadstone. I had somebody head This is
years ago, twenty years ago at least, and they were
telling me about this product for finishing countertops, and I
ordered some, tried some, and talked to them and then

(27:32):
invite him on the show. And I call him the
Mad Scientists now because he continues to invent, you know,
wonderful products for concrete and basement floors and grudge for
So I'll watch a couple of videos and I'll give
him a call and we'll see if we can get
them on someday.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
Oh that sounds terrific. Yes, they have countertop kits and
they show you how to mix, you know, the different
products that you get with the kit and whether you
want to look like mar or granted or whatever you
want it to look like, they've got it, and they
will help you. They absolutely will help you. It's worth it,
and you don't have to worry about top coats and

(28:09):
all that stuff except for a countertop. But yeah, and
they they've got it all. They literally have it all.
But what I love the most is the preface. So easy.
Just slop that stuff on with a disposable brush and
you just wipe it off and start painting. It's it's
beyond what I could even imagine existing, truthfully.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
Well, very good, thank you very much for your tip.
I appreciate it. I'll look into it. Thank you, Thank you.

Speaker 6 (28:34):
So much, Gary, Bye bye.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
All right, there you go. I will look into it,
look at a couple of videos, and you know, because
with kitchens, I mean, you know, that's a big investment.
Redoing the kitchen. We were even talking about kitchen designer
earlier today, things to look for, but changing the colors.
We're seeing more and more colors in cadmittry. I told Jahiman,
you know, old style guy, still like my sherry cadmans.

(28:59):
I don't care how they are, and clean them up
a little bit. All right, let's go to Jeff. Jeff, Welcome,
Hey doing Gary, I'm doing fine, Thanks good.

Speaker 8 (29:09):
Hey.

Speaker 9 (29:10):
My daughter got a house in Middletown, Middletown of high obviously,
and I think it was like in the maybe built
in the fifties and sixties, it's old.

Speaker 8 (29:23):
Well, the twins, her babies are one year old. They
detected lead in their blood. So she did us. We
did a water test and it came back, you know,
just a little bit and there it wasn't to the
dangerous point. And then she swabbed the vent inside the

(29:45):
event and it came back super deep purple. And all
the dark work is new. It's just it has those
old registers with a big heavy grate on them, and
then inside they kind of look all rusty and nasty.
Do you think that would be the problem.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
Well, it is a problem, right, I mean it tested. Yeah.
So the question is what where did that leg come from?
Is it from the duckwork? I don't think so. Is
it from the register grill? I don't think so. You
know what I think it's from. I think it's from yeah.

(30:30):
I do you know how we talk about cleaning duckwork cleaning, right,
I think that's something I would really really investigate, and
in fact, i'd have the duckwork clean period and then
I would go back and retest. But you know, even

(30:51):
when people replace windows in older homes, there's there's lulls. Now,
how you have to tent that area out so that
it can't get through the circulatory system of the ductwork
inside a home, because man, I mean we got you know,
four stair furnaces. You know, we got a blower on
and then somebody's you know, even a tight fitting door

(31:13):
with lead based paint. Opening and closing that door will
put microscopic pieces of lead in the air which will circulate,
and yeah, fielder may catch some of it, but it's
not I catch all of it.

Speaker 8 (31:27):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, he up. Yeah, it's got to be
the lead because it was a this guy flipped this house,
m h. So he painted some walls and then there's
the big old heavy, you know, eight foot tall sliding doors,
pocket doors, and you know there's like this code of paint.

(31:48):
You never touched that. So yeah, they're going to have
an inspector come out, but I wanted to get your Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
I'm gonna guess there's a couple of areas that are
great collectors for those for that residue. Obviously the duckwork,
obviously inside the air handler, also down if there's carpet
and the baseboards, that little tiny seam I mean, and

(32:16):
again kids crawling around on the floor get it in
their hands on their hands, put their hands in their mouth.
That's normal behavior. You start ingesting all that and breathing that,
and it's going to show up for sure. So step one,
I'd get the duckwork clean regardless, and you know the quicker,
you know, you know, if you want to have the

(32:38):
inspector look at it while it's filled with it, that's fine.
But I'm sure that's what it is. It's just a
collection of the residue of lead based pain having been
sanded or you know, rubbed off, and it's just collected
in those areas.

Speaker 8 (32:54):
I gotcha. That makes sense. Yeah, and they got the
lamb and ex floors, so that that stuff is.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
Probably you know, could be but they can swap that
and check.

Speaker 8 (33:04):
Yeah, okay, is that pretty pricey?

Speaker 1 (33:09):
Well yeah, I mean to a bait. Yeah, if it
was a whole house, but we don't know that yet.
So your your biggest collector, like I said, you're air
handler and the duckwork. Let's you know, let's you know again,
I don't know whether to tell you haven't inspected before

(33:30):
that or after that? Uh, probably have it if you
can get him out right away and have them, you know,
inspect that duck work and I'm sure his recommendation will
be the same, and then he'll show you possibly other
hotspots and then the question is you know, how's that
taken care of? Or you know, because we don't want

(33:51):
it to circulate and start filling the duck work again?

Speaker 8 (33:55):
Right, I got you? Okay, good, all right, well the
bull Gary, I thought this would catch on. Have a
Gary good day.

Speaker 1 (34:05):

(37:21):
go at home with Garrie Sealivan. Yeah. I just did
a little quick google on lead based paint duck work
and I you know, we talked about the metal duck work.
It says anyway, certainly in older homes, a collection of
lead based dust is found in a lot of air

(37:43):
handlers and duckwork, as we were talking about. But a
couple of things, and I didn't know this quite honestly,
in older sheet metal ducks. You know, back in the
forties fifties, they actually soldered that duckwork with a lead
based sawder so rubbing that swab on there may have

(38:07):
detected that also, and there are encapsuleans for that also,
a lot of times they would paint the duckwork itself
and the old red primer which was totally lead based,
and you know that combination could all be picking that again,

(38:28):
and capsulence are available for that. So just you know,
it sounds like a really, really really good place to start.
All right. I've said on that. Let's go to Bill. Bill, welcome,
how's it going?

Speaker 10 (38:42):
Hey, I'll do it quick because I know you're running
out of time. We got about five hundred feet of
seat offence that we need to seal and we can
it probably use a brush or a roller. So something
that goes on easy the first time.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
So what do you what are you looking for? You're
looking for a semi transparent or a solid color stain
or what do you what do you want to put that?

Speaker 10 (39:08):
Pretty much a clear see.

Speaker 8 (39:10):
See.

Speaker 10 (39:10):
The thing is I can't do it because of physical problems.
My wife's gonna do it, and I normally would spray it.
She don't want to spray it. She just I'll brush
it on.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
Okay, eyeah? Have you always put clear on there?

Speaker 10 (39:29):
I think we usually go with the cedar cola.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
Okay, if we put a clear on their build, I
just want you to know this, clear fence ceilers and
clear deck sealers is probably the shortest length of time
that it would last of any coating. So there's no
because someone the wood is great already. Yeah yeah, so

(39:55):
you I guess what I'm saying is you'd be better
if you want a semi transp parent. You can still
use a semi transparent, but I don't think I would
put a clear on there. The lifespan of a clear
seiler like that is about two years, max.

Speaker 10 (40:11):
I know wood fences are a curse, right.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
Okay, I just wanted to make sure you knew, so
cedar would be best. If you want to go with
the clear, that's fine. You can go brush or roller have.
When you say you used to spray it, did you
use it with an airless sprayer? Did you use a
tank sprayer or what? Did you use tank bug spray it? Yeah,

(40:35):
that's what i'd used to. It's gonna be bt it works, and.

Speaker 6 (40:38):
Then I just threw it away.

Speaker 10 (40:40):
I didn't even worry about cleaning it.

Speaker 1 (40:41):
Yeah, yeah, well that would be the best. And then
even if there's somebody with her where you could just
kind of use that tank sprayer, get it wet, and
then just with a brush just you know, if it's
starting to run down or something, just hit it. That's
going to be the fastest, easiest way to do it.
Outside of that, they do have some and I don't

(41:06):
even know what they're called. They're probably called deck brushes.
It's it almost looks like a roof brush. Okay, so
it's got a longer hair to it. It's almost like
a car wash mop, and it's got a shorter handle
and it puts enough on their because it's going to
soak in you know, you know the viscossia that is
very very thin, so you don't want to be dipping,

(41:28):
you know, every two seconds. So you might look at
a deck brush for doing that. If she doesn't want
to spray it, I'd say the next best thing would
be a deck brush rather than a paintbrush.

Speaker 10 (41:42):
Okay, so what brand ceiling should I use?

Speaker 1 (41:46):
I'll tell you there's one called super deck Modified Alkid
acrylic is a very very that would be a good one.
It's got the alkid in there which gets it penetration
and then bites into it and then you've got the
acrylic which holds up pretty good against the sun.

Speaker 8 (42:06):
Is that by in the store?

Speaker 10 (42:07):
Is that mail water?

Speaker 1 (42:08):
No, No, you can get that at Sherman Williams.

Speaker 10 (42:12):
But I want something that lows because it's gonna be
I don't know how much I'm gonna need.

Speaker 1 (42:16):
If you're going to go to loads, get the Cabot,
then get the Cabot. They carry Cabot. They got a
really good Cabot Cabot one's c A B O T
and you Yeah, and you can get that. You can
get that in a seater or or a clear but

(42:38):
the Cabot deck stain. I would use that deck ork fence.
All right. Uh, Wayne, we're gonna run out of time,
but real quick to get moss off your roof is
what you're looking for. I want you to go ahead
and use a product called Wet and Forget and again
it comes in a hose connector. You connect a hose

(43:01):
to the Wet and Forget. Spray it on that covers. Uh,
that'll kill fungus, mildew, moss, and you'll spray it on.
Spray it on on kind of a cloudy day. You
don't want a real hot brilliant sun or evaporation could
become a problem, and just wet that whole roof down
and it'll take four to six weeks and it'll eliminate.

(43:24):
Like I said, it'll do a great job of eliminating
any fungus, algae, moss mill do the whole works, and
doesn't have to just be moss, folks. I mean, if
you've got a roof that has those heavy black streaks,
that's a fungus that's all airborne, and boy, when it
gets on one house, it just you know, marches down

(43:44):
the marches down the street, and you reapply that every
other year and you'll never see it again. All right,
toe boy, that was That was a kind of a
busy last hour. Danny Boy, thanks you very much. It's
been a busy weekend and uh good a fun weekend.
So appreciate your help. And I hope you get outside

(44:05):
really and get a where I'm at. What's to rain
again for a couple of days. I'm done with it,
but don't you get some stuff done. I want to
tackle a bigger project and I hope you get to
do the same. Good Lord William Back next weekend for
more at Home with Gary Sullivan.
