Speaker 1 (00:00):
Investing in your future now more from the Steve Parents
Coordinated Financial Planning Studios. This is fifty five KRZ, the
talk station and iHeartRadio station.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
The President doesn't hold the Federal Reserve Chief in high regard,
but we have a.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Man who's not a smart man, and he probably has
Trump Arrangement syndrome, and he's just not a smart person
what he's doing, though he's hurting.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Us for years to come. The President thinks interest rate
should be at one percent instead of the current foreign
a quarter to four and a half percent. Trump says
the US is paying out billions more to cover borrowing
costs because the rates are too high. The Trump administration
is rescinding the layoff notices sent a Voice of America employees.
Jim Forbes has more.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
That's according to The New York Times, which reports that
the move comes after employees for the broadcast network discovered
errors in their layoff documents, and official with the Federal
Workers' Union representing Voice of American employees says the administration
rescinded the layoff notices because those errors could allow the
union to take legal action. Senior advisor to Voice of America,

(01:03):
Carrie Lake, says the employees aren't being called back to work,
and the administration still plans to lay off much of
the network's employees.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
The judge is expected to give instructions to the jury
on Monday in the Sean Didtycomb sex trafficking case. Lisa
Taylor reports.

Speaker 5 (01:19):
The jury could take less time than expected, according to
legal analysts Danny Sivalos.

Speaker 6 (01:24):
That's a big challenge for the court is managing the
jurors and their expectations coming this close to a holiday.
And I know that may sound like not a big deal,
but believe me, it is because people have plans and
they have lives, and it generally, I believe it influences
jurors at the speed at which they want to get done,
so that might be a huge factor here.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
Combs faces charges of bracketeering, conspiracy, sex trafficking by force,
and transportation to engage in prostitution.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Americans are getting ready for the Fourth of July holidays.
Next week will be a short one for many working Americans,
as Independence Day falls on a Friday this year. For
a record number of travelers this year, with over seventy
two million people expected to travel fifty miles or more
for the holiday. I'm Lisa Carton.

Speaker 7 (02:11):
Well, best time of the day. I got to say
good afternoon and welcome now our number four.

Speaker 8 (02:15):
You're at home with Gary Salvan. Take you up to
the one o'clock hour.

Speaker 7 (02:19):
And then the Donovan's doing a little car talk in
the meantime. If you'd like to get on board, give
us a call. We'll be happy to talk to you
about what you're working on. At the bottom of the hour,
we're going to have one stop pest control on. Joe
and I were just talking about ants. Got ant problems

(02:39):
to Ants are tough this year for some reason, and
we'll get that confirmed when we chat with them at
the bottom of the hour.

Speaker 8 (02:46):
In the meantime, let's get back to the phone calls.
We got Mary and Mary Welcome, Hi.

Speaker 9 (02:52):
Good afternoon.

Speaker 8 (02:53):
How are you doing wonderful? Thank you good.

Speaker 9 (02:58):
Yes, my daughter is needing to purchase the I guess
they're like power air conditioners for two bedrooms, and she's
looking at information that says there's a hose on some
that has to go out a window, and then others.
It doesn't say how you get rid of the moisture

(03:21):
that's coming through the air conditioner.

Speaker 7 (03:24):
Usually it's evaporation than a fan inside, or there's one
that allows it to drip to the hose.

Speaker 9 (03:33):
Okay, So okay, and then how do you purchase one
because it's varied in the BTUs and these are just
two bedrooms, regular sized bedrooms.

Speaker 7 (03:46):
Well, you can do a calculation. I don't have it
at the top of my head. I should have, but
I don't have. You can do by the size or
the cube of the bedroom.

Speaker 8 (03:57):
Are you going were you.

Speaker 7 (03:58):
Thinking about getting to them or the bedrooms kind of
connected where you could maybe use one two separate, two
separate Just to the size of the rooms, it's probably,
you know, a pretty small one would be my guest.

Speaker 8 (04:11):
But you can do it.

Speaker 7 (04:12):
You can do a calculation to get the number of
bt US you would need, or are you going to
buy it online? You're going to buy it at a store.

Speaker 9 (04:19):
Or well she's looking online, but I think it'll be
purchased at a store.

Speaker 8 (04:25):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (04:25):
Well, either way, you could do the calculation yourself, or
you could measure, you know, you're with your length and
your and your height, and they can do a BTU
calculation for you and tell you what size would be proper.

Speaker 9 (04:42):
Okay, So these bedrooms pay of ceiling stands, So does
that interfere with what their conditioners?

Speaker 7 (04:52):
Air conditioners basically in a lot of cases they cool
by taking moisture out of the air.

Speaker 8 (04:58):
I mean, that's how they can.

Speaker 7 (05:00):
So a fan, you know, you can, you know, that's
sometimes enhanced, Like we have central air, but in our
bedroom we have a ceiling fan and when it gets
really hot, we usually turn the ceiling fan onloaded a
little additional cooling.

Speaker 9 (05:16):
Okay, So then how do you know, like if you
won't trip a breaker.

Speaker 7 (05:23):
Have capability, Well, I don't think that's going to be
a problem, but you know, I'm guessing that the outlet
you have for that bedroom would be a fifteen AM breaker.

Speaker 8 (05:37):
So again, depending on.

Speaker 7 (05:38):
The BTU and what else is on that circuit, if
you can determine what that is, you probably don't want
to run the air conditioner and the hair dryer on
the same circuit.

Speaker 8 (05:49):
But usually in a bedroom they.

Speaker 7 (05:51):
Would be separate, and you probably I'm being very general here,
probably not going to have a problem because I think
it's going to be fairly small and there's not going
to be any other demand on that circuit like appliances
or hairdryers that will be in the bathroom. So that's

(06:13):
how I would start the calculation.

Speaker 8 (06:15):
First start the calculation. See how big a one you need?

Speaker 9 (06:19):
Okay, and if that would occur, then they would just
go to another outlet.

Speaker 7 (06:24):
Rightmine to be to you. You can determine the electric
you know, the amperage and wattages that thing's going to
use and find out if you're going to be all
right and you should be okay, you feel pretty strongly.

Speaker 8 (06:40):
You shouldn't be.

Speaker 9 (06:42):
Okay. Thank you for your time.

Speaker 7 (06:44):
All right, very good. And again you can get those calculations.
You can get the formula for that pretty easy. And
you know, on the internet, I just forget that somebody
probably saying Gary, it's just a yeah, I'm sure you're right, Tom.

Speaker 10 (07:02):
Welcome, Oh Gary, Hello, Yeah, hello Gary. I had a
question about bathroom fans where, uh, I guess on bathrooms
is it true that they either you do a window
or a fan and not both. Is that true.

Speaker 8 (07:21):
A window fan or what a regular ceiling.

Speaker 10 (07:25):
Fan or not a ceiling fan? But it's I guess
it would have the exhaust fan built into the ceiling
or or a window. I guess it's I've been told
that they don't do both together.

Speaker 7 (07:38):
Right right, You're you're well, even if it were in
the window, if you had it, it would still be
exhausting that air out. Yeah, you know, just similar to
the ceiling fan. It's just yeah, it's one or the other.
You don't you're not gonna need both, I mean.

Speaker 10 (07:54):
Yeah, yeah, And that was my next question is because
I don't have a ceiling, I don't have the exhaust
fan the ceiling. No, it's just the wind. But I've
also been the second question on that. I guess I
was told by somebody that I guess to mount one
in the window itself is an illegal thing.

Speaker 11 (08:09):
Is that true?

Speaker 7 (08:12):
You're in California, so against it may be against code.
All the codes are a little bit different in a
in a bed, in a bathroom. I would say universally,
they're in the ceiling. But I don't know if it's
against code in a window.

Speaker 10 (08:29):
Yeah, And I guess I would have to talk to
some of you to find out if it's against code
or not, because I don't have an exhaust hand in
the ceiling, and I would like to get one that
would be mounted in the window. But I've been told
that that's that that's illegal to mounted and went.

Speaker 8 (08:43):
On, who told you that.

Speaker 10 (08:47):
No, it was a co worker at my work, and
he was saying time to where it's illegal. But I
don't know if I totally believe him or not.

Speaker 8 (08:53):
But yeah, I think that answer pretty fast, to be honest.

Speaker 10 (08:58):
And yeah, yeah, because I I wouldn't mind doing that
where if I could just open I'm gonna get one
that's permanently mounted in the window that way, getting exhausted
that way.

Speaker 7 (09:08):
But yeah, honest when you said it, In fact, when
you said it, I was like, hmm, I don't know
if I've ever heard anybody doing that.

Speaker 10 (09:16):
Yeah, And I but I or maybe just do what
I do now where I have a just a continue
what I do now where it's a standalone fan, I
just do it that way.

Speaker 8 (09:26):
Sure, well that's that's and I'll just.

Speaker 11 (09:28):
Run that way. But yeah, but I was.

Speaker 7 (09:32):
They ideally you'd want it in the ceiling, I mean
in the.

Speaker 10 (09:36):
Ceiling, yeah, which when I bought this house three years ago,
both of the bathrooms don't have the exhaust ends in
the ceiling.

Speaker 11 (09:43):
Novel.

Speaker 10 (09:43):
But and I was just wondering, I guess it's to
be overkilled to have both a window and a fan.

Speaker 7 (09:49):
Yeah, you wouldn't need that unless you got some massive,
massive bathroom.

Speaker 11 (09:55):
Know which I don't.

Speaker 10 (09:56):
They're kind of small, but they're I mean having when
those plenty, you know, plenty nothings as to get to
get it out of the out the window. So but anyway,
that's all I know, Thanks for you for helping let
me show.

Speaker 8 (10:08):
All right, very good, thank you. Take care.

Speaker 7 (10:11):
In fact, even those need to be sized just so
you know, those are sold by CFMS too, so it's
a cubic feet permitted, and so you got to get
the cube on that and get the right size. Also
using those fans just to add a little something else
to it, because there is a calculation to get the
right size. And remember those are not gonna do They're

(10:35):
going to do the job if you have the correct
size of CFMS and you have enough backfill for air.
What that means is is if you have a bathroom
door and you got carpet on the other side, and
that door goes in like seals right up against that
carpet and you turn that fan on, it can't pull

(10:56):
air out unless you're bringing air in. All right, So
you know I would suspect you're gonna have to have
almost three cores of an inch to an inch between
the bottom of the door and the floor, or you're
gonna need to crack a window because you need that
back air supply to push the hotter wetter air out.

(11:19):
And then when you go up into that ceiling, that
exhaust should be going outside, and so it's going through
the roof, it's going through the side of the house.
It's just not going into the attic or again mold
becomes an issue there.

Speaker 8 (11:36):
Also.

Speaker 7 (11:36):
All right, we'll take a break and get back to
the calls. You are at home with Gary seven right
here on fifty five care see the talk station.

Speaker 8 (11:43):
See Hi, this is tail down there.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
We'll be taking your car questions at one right after
Gary Sullivan on fifty five care seat.

Speaker 8 (11:53):
All right, back at it.

Speaker 7 (11:54):
I was just quickly looking about the exhaust fan and
a bathroom for a window, and apparently, at least I
just looked very briefly, you can install it in a window.
A couple of things to consider, though. The fellow that
called was from California. I don't know if you'd want
to do that in Minnesota, you know, because those fans

(12:17):
will allow cool wear in Also also going to you know,
if there's a bathtub right underneath that window, there are
specific you know, you'd want to have that on a
GFI ground falt circuit interrupter. You would also want to
you know, make sure that it's secured. But apparently it

(12:40):
is at least as an overview Okay. Now some states
we have other codes that will make it not okay,
but just want to pass that along, Rick, Welcome.

Speaker 12 (12:55):
We're there.

Speaker 8 (12:57):
You bet.

Speaker 13 (12:59):
Hey, look I got a patio for it about two
years ago, and I'm like, wow, look at that patio.
So for two years I've been going, what a nice patio.
My neighbor's got one that's painted. Do I need to
paint my patio? Is there a benefit in painting it
to keep it together or tell.

Speaker 11 (13:15):
Me a little bit about that.

Speaker 7 (13:18):
Yeah, there's there's there's Cosmetically there could be a benefit,
but you know, sealing the concrete will it's not going
to keep it together, but it could be beneficial in
extending the life. But if you paint it, you've got

(13:41):
a coating over concrete, Okay, so it could peel depending
on what you're going to put on. There some really
good stuff out there right now. That can really give
you some color, It can give you some good quote
curb appeal, but it's and it's going to offer some protection.

(14:03):
But it's not a make or break thing. I think
mainly if people are gonna paint a patio, it's because
it's cosmetic or they've already patched it a bunch of
times and you can see all the patches, so they
just want to hide it.

Speaker 8 (14:15):
Yeah again, curve a pea.

Speaker 13 (14:17):
So it's more for a looks. A matter of fact,
I think I have cussed it maybe once or twice
because now it's like a bright mirror.

Speaker 11 (14:26):
It is so white.

Speaker 13 (14:27):
I can't see anything else in.

Speaker 8 (14:29):
The art sometimes depended upon the time of.

Speaker 13 (14:31):
Day because it glows, you know, so I guess just
a darker color green or something.

Speaker 8 (14:36):
Well there. Yeah, so there's some things to look at.

Speaker 7 (14:40):
If you're you know, want to change the color of it,
you can use a product. It's called roller Rock. There's
one called Spreadstone. I'm gonna give you a website to
take a look at. There's some great videos and there's
colors and it's dice d A I C.

Speaker 8 (15:01):
H Coatings dot com.

Speaker 7 (15:04):
Okay, and you're looking for roller rock or spreadstone. You know,
they come maybe six to ten different colors, and they're
kind of speckled too, so.

Speaker 8 (15:17):
It doesn't look like just flat paints put on there.
And it's good stuff.

Speaker 11 (15:22):
I appreciate that.

Speaker 13 (15:23):
What happened was when I did get it poured.

Speaker 11 (15:25):
You know, the guys that poured the.

Speaker 13 (15:27):
Concrete, they didn't say anything, Hey, you must paint this now,
be sure within this time.

Speaker 8 (15:31):
Yeah, no, you know all about that.

Speaker 13 (15:34):
But you know, it was funny that there was like
in one corner the concrete kind of got chipped after
one day, and I'm like, maybe it's soft, you know,
but I'm not complaining about that. But okay, well that
pretty much answered my question. I appreciate the website.

Speaker 7 (15:47):
There's also another thing I just want to interject before
you leave.

Speaker 8 (15:51):
You can also get an acid stain. It sounds worse
than it is.

Speaker 7 (15:56):
It will add coloring to it and it almost looks
like a marbilized natural look. Just if you get online.
H and C is a manufacturer, or you can just
google acid stains.

Speaker 8 (16:10):
You can put it on with a spray.

Speaker 7 (16:12):
Or it's not a solid, massive color, so it's more
of a marblized. Some people love it. Some people don't
like it, but that's another option to just kind of
tone it down a little bit.

Speaker 13 (16:25):
Well, it came upon your show today and it said
that's the answer.

Speaker 9 (16:27):
Man.

Speaker 8 (16:29):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 7 (16:31):
Call any time, all right, thanksy, take care and let's
see we can go to Gene Gene.

Speaker 8 (16:39):
Welcome.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Hi, thanks for taking the call. You bet you okay, okay.
My question is how do you prevent woodpeckers from making
holes in a theater, siding, stoppet and porch post of
a theedar home.

Speaker 7 (16:59):
Yeah, well, the only way you get rid of animals, birds,
whatever you got is change the environment. We don't know
what he's looking for. He's looking for insects or he's
drumming and looking for a mate.

Speaker 8 (17:13):
I don't know which one.

Speaker 7 (17:15):
But you kind of got to change the area because
he's found your house and he likes it, all right.

Speaker 8 (17:20):
So a good way.

Speaker 7 (17:24):
And there's all kinds of ways, not sprays, not you know,
chemicals or anything like that. They hate movement, okay, and
a nice still day out there. You know, they don't
have movements, so they'd like your area. And maybe it's shaded,
maybe it's just perfect, but we can change that. There

(17:46):
are different things One of them is my lar tape,
which is you know, yeah, you know, like those you
know those balloons that look real light. That's my lar
and they make out in tape with holograms in it.
So when the sun hits it, it causes flashes of

(18:07):
light or the wind blows the mylar floats around, and
they don't like it. You change their environment. That's one
option for you.

Speaker 8 (18:17):
I've also seen people take.

Speaker 7 (18:20):
Like CDs, you know, the little small plate CDs, and
it's got a hologram built in it. They drill a
little and they tie some fishing string around the center
part and put a thumb back and put it on
the wall and the same thing happens. It flashes light,
it moves around, and said woodpecker doesn't like it. I've

(18:44):
seen people put inflatable owls, plastic snakes in the area up,
things like that.

Speaker 8 (18:52):
That's that's what's going to move them out.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
All right, this is on the front of the house,
and I don't know if I want CDs splashing off.

Speaker 7 (19:02):
Off the well, it'll be your choice. You're gonna have
the CD.

Speaker 8 (19:06):
Did try an owl first?

Speaker 3 (19:09):
Okay? I have just saw that this morning. The owls
or another bird but yes, I saw that. I can
put an owl there. But you don't think that the
sprays I saw. What's it called the liquid fence.

Speaker 7 (19:28):
The only liquid fence I know of is a weed killer.
I mean there might be one. I haven't used that one.

Speaker 8 (19:35):
I don't know that.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
This was for deers and rabbits.

Speaker 8 (19:38):
And yeah, that's not going to do it. That's not
going to do it.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
No, Okay, I'll cross that one out. Okay, they just
have to change. They hate movements. So this is the
my large tape. I can put that across the front
of the house and it will well, it looks strange.

Speaker 7 (20:01):
It will look strange. Your neighbors are gonna wonder what
you're celebrating for a while. But after a while you
can take it down. So yeah, but it's very effective.
That's one of the things I found to be most effective.
All right, let's get one more call in and then
we'll talk a little home pest control. With One Stop

(20:22):
Pest Control, we will have bill online and don welcome.

Speaker 12 (20:28):
Hey Gary, I'm a quick question. I am doing a
gut renovation on a house in North Carolina, is near
the beach. I'm going to insulate the attic and I
heard your discussion last week about the whole house encapsulation.

Speaker 8 (20:44):
Yes, sir, my builder gave.

Speaker 12 (20:45):
Me options to just do blown in that. I've looked
at the clothes seale and I think I'm going to
go with that one benefit. The guy I think that
carled last week was from Florida.

Speaker 8 (20:59):
I do it.

Speaker 12 (20:59):
A research said in the hurricanes on that actually stiffens
up that whole structure and actually is really good for
minimizing the potential for roof lift.

Speaker 8 (21:11):
Yeah, it would minimize.

Speaker 7 (21:12):
Yeah, one of the best things about foam insulation is
eliminating draft.

Speaker 8 (21:17):
It's just not a coat.

Speaker 12 (21:19):
So that's my question. So right now, you know the
attic had blown in insulation previously, and I've got the
soft events, and do I need to replace those once
I do this whole.

Speaker 11 (21:31):
House and capsulay.

Speaker 7 (21:32):
Yeah, if you're doing a whole house encapsulation, this is
kind of weird. But you know, we didn't insulate homes
till like nineteen seventy eight, and if we and then
the newest thing is whole house encapsulation, creating an envelope
and we're back to no infiltration, no, no breathing, no,

(21:56):
So we would replace we don't need ridge vents, we
don't want reg vents, we don't want gable vents, we
don't want soft events. It's a non vented you you're
creating a thermost bottle.

Speaker 12 (22:12):
Okay and okay, so I'll make sure the builder's squapping
those out then yep, and then the other piece. You
know your conversation again. Last week, we did have a
squirrel infestation up there and we had to pull out
all the insulation, trap them first, disinfect and reinsulate, and
it was about ten thousand dollars. Yeah, it was a nightmare.

Speaker 7 (22:33):
It's a it's a big deal people, And I really
I don't know whether we're just getting more tuned into
what's going on in our homes or what, but it's
a it's a big problem. And insurance companies now a
lot of times are looking and go, oh, well, you know,
you didn't cock the corners of your facia boards, so
that's a maintenance issue.

Speaker 11 (22:55):
So yeah, it was.

Speaker 12 (22:57):
It was all out of pocket.

Speaker 7 (22:58):
So yeah, yeah, I hear you. All Right, my friend,
thanks for the call, appreciate it.

Speaker 8 (23:06):
All right.

Speaker 7 (23:07):
Coming up, we're gonna talk about Joe's battle with ants.
We had somebody with flying ants, and we got pest
in our homes. I don't know if it's a bad
anty' or not. We're gonna find out. Bill Richter, he
is with one Stop Pest Control. He's up next as
we continue. You're at home with Gary Salvan right here
in fifty five care see the talk stations, the nete.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
Here's the very latest from around the globe from the
fifty five KRC you Center.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Senate Republicans are scrambling to pass President Trump's massive spending bill.
Majority leader John Thune says there could be a procedural
vote to start debate at noon Eastern. The spending measure
is facing headwinds as Republicans race against the clock to
meet Trump's July fourth deadline. On Friday, Trump added, however,
that the deadline was quote not the end all, and

Good what what's the big buzz and bugs this? Year
are bugs?

Speaker 11 (25:11):
Bad, well of course it's pretty bad this. Year we've
had a really weird uh spring with all the rains
and now we've had a lot of heat and that
type of. Stuff so a lot of things are cold
blooded and they rely on external temperatures to get there
and get everything. Moving so, yeah it's kind of out
and about at this.

Speaker 7 (25:32):
Moment, well if you don't. Mind and first of, all
thank you for taking the time to be. On i've
got a bunch of questions on summer pest. Problems they're
going to start start right here with my, Producer Joe.

Speaker 8 (25:44):
Streker he's let's get to.

Speaker 7 (25:47):
It, yeah he, Says he, goes, Man i've got sweet
ants AND i used to be able to kind of
control them with uh with a tarot producting IS i
can't get rid of these. THINGS i even know they're
coming in through my door because my dog bit the.
Seal it's a little tiny. Opening ants are, gosh they're

(26:09):
adventurous little. Creators they're, smart AND i understand and you
correct me If i'm wrong that they even have a
tency to change their diet when it's cold and, hot
and so some things you're getting off the shelves at
the hardware stores aren't always.

Speaker 8 (26:24):
Effective that is very.

Speaker 11 (26:27):
True ants are kind of, ectothermic so that means that
they're cold blooded and they rely on external temperatures to
regulate their. Bodies and what happens at that point is
when they have warmer and warmer, temperatures it speeds up their,
metabolism so it increases their need for food and water
and different. Things so they may need, proteins they may need,
starches they may need. Sugars it just depends on the

(26:50):
time of the year and what that heat is doing
to their.

Speaker 7 (26:53):
Bodies And i'm assuming ants are tough this year for
that very reason is because of the yo yo weather we've.
Had it's, cold it's, hot and you, know, ANTS i
think you have one purpose in life and that's together
water and. Food so how does One Stop Pest control
take care of this?

Speaker 8 (27:11):
Problem so obviously.

Speaker 11 (27:14):
Ants are usually coming from the exterior of the. Property
so what we do is we actually seek in the.
Source we try to find the problem where it's coming.
In so what we'll do is we'll follow the ant
else where mountains are where they're coming from the best
that we. Can sometimes you lose and the, weeds depending
on how high or how thick it. Is once activity

(27:37):
other from the outside coming, inside that's where we try
to figure out what that problem to do with them
at that.

Speaker 7 (27:45):
Point so do the folks at One Stop Pest control
do you do an exterior application or do you get
them from the inside or do you do?

Speaker 11 (27:56):
BOTH i so we do actually use liquid material on
the inside and a gel bait on the, interior which
is generally a sugar, bait and then we do a
full exterior treatment around the cracks of crevices around the.
Foundation we poles the door entry. Points if there's trees

(28:17):
or bushes touched in the exterior that would bridge a
gap to the, house we hit those types of areas
to kind of make sure that nothing gets into The, all, okay.

Speaker 8 (28:28):
How long does it take to control an?

Speaker 7 (28:31):
Infestation is that a one treatment or is that something
that goes on on a regular.

Speaker 11 (28:36):
Basis, well typically you can usually get ridvance usually one
of two. Treatments it depends.

Speaker 8 (28:44):
Excuse, me on the.

Speaker 11 (28:45):
INFESTATION i apologize some of my. Throat so typically one
to two, applications depends on the outside issues and stuff
like that and where they are coming. From but it
takes usually on, average it can take anywhere from fourteen
to twenty eight days to eliminated infestation on.

Speaker 8 (29:08):
Average, right, well we'll see if we can Get.

Speaker 11 (29:11):
You got to let the. Material you gotta let the
material do its job and make sure that that is
taken back to the.

Speaker 7 (29:18):
Nest, sure, Okay i'll let you give me a sales pitch.
Here why Would joe call one stop. First what stuff, First,
Well joe is.

Speaker 11 (29:30):
Because we are a family owned and operated so basically
all the money that spent in our company days in
our community right and basically after, that we we like
to pride ourselves on the fact that we have the
best customer. Service we try to do the best we,
can no matter what we, can't no matter what's going,
on we try to do whatever's best for the, customer

(29:51):
not the best interest of.

Speaker 8 (29:53):
Us very. GOOD i love that whole family family.

Speaker 7 (29:57):
Businesses they're awesome and that good services get tougher and
tougher to.

Speaker 8 (30:01):
Find you, know one of my.

Speaker 7 (30:02):
First callers, Today, bill it's another ant issue And i'll
talk about that before we get into the others uh
tests that are bothering us this. Year and it kind
of kind of stumped me a little. Bit it was
ants with wings and it wasn't termites and Any the

(30:27):
ANSWER i gave would be similar to carpenter bees or carpenter.

Speaker 8 (30:33):
Ants maybe a.

Speaker 7 (30:36):
Dead, tree, branches dead stomp coming from the. Outside is
that where that project.

Speaker 11 (30:43):
Starts, well they definitely start from the exterior and just
exactly like you, said and the ants that are swarming
currently at this at this point in, time are usually
the pavement, ants the sugar ants that we talk about
that are on the. Sidewalks uh, huh those are The
those are the reproductive ants that are looking started to do.
So it's it's that time of the year for them to.

Speaker 8 (31:03):
Swarm, okay, well i'll tell you.

Speaker 7 (31:06):
What when you see a swarm of, ANTS i don't
know if a lot of people listening right now have.
Seen i've seen. One it was the size of a
basketball in the middle of my. Driveway it was a. Convention, yeah,
yeah they were done.

Speaker 11 (31:20):
A meeting out.

Speaker 8 (31:21):
There they sure. Were they sure. Were uh, so what
other pest ARE i guess? Hornets the cicadas are.

Speaker 7 (31:31):
Gone that's. Good couldn't do much about that, anyway could.

Speaker 11 (31:34):
We, no there's not much we can do with those. Guys,
yeah but the hornets are definitely starting to pop. Up
we've been starting the ball that was in the week
the two weeks in regards to the ball faces, hornets
and they're definitely it's getting to that point where they're
starting to be noticeable as far as the nets are getting,
bigger and we're getting a ton of calls on. That so.

Speaker 8 (31:56):
Far what hornets are.

Speaker 7 (31:59):
Lost they love to get behind shutters on homes, too
don't They they.

Speaker 11 (32:04):
Do typically hornets usually like to get up under the
up under the eaves of the house because it stays
out of the, weather, rain stuff like, that in the.
Wind but they also tend to build nests in trees
and they're about they're like a gray football shaped, nest
is what they're what they're kind of looking.

Speaker 8 (32:23):
For, yeah do they come back or is that nest
a one time?

Speaker 11 (32:27):
Deal typically then we'll start in Another the queen, literally,
uh it gets to the point where it starts to
she actually goes in over winters like in a bark
the tree and the in the barnie orange out of a,
house anywhere where she can stay warm and hibernate for the,
winter and then she starts up the next.

Speaker 8 (32:48):
Spring, okay are we out a termite caesar or is
that a twelve month a year?

Speaker 11 (32:55):
Thing, well termite, season swarm season is pretty much over
at this. Point that usually starts from marching. Through but
they have them three sixty. Five, uh you, know you'll
you'll find termites out in the mulch this year as
people are doing their gardening and things like that if

(33:16):
you guys see anything the size of a piece of,
rice it's white with, white looks like a piece of,
rice and has six, legs that's generally going to be
your termites inside of your mulch.

Speaker 7 (33:26):
Beds so when we're buying, malts we're buying termites.

Speaker 11 (33:30):
Too Huh, no not, Necessarily that's that's what people talk.
About you, could you might be able to pick up
a couple of termites from, that but they're probably not
going to be able to start a new colony in
your in your yard because they don't have the reproductive
or the queen uh to to keep them.

Speaker 7 (33:48):
Going, okay but if you see some in the, mault
you want to respond to that correct or, no.

Speaker 11 (33:56):
You asked a. LOT i would definitely have the house,
inspected make sure nothing's going. On but if termites are
within a foot of your, home THEN i would definitely
be a little bit concerned because they're pretty.

Speaker 8 (34:07):
Close you.

Speaker 11 (34:08):
Know you, know we built our houses on top of
where the termites, are so you're bounded and determined at
some point in the longevity of owning your, house termites
are going to show up at one point or, another most.

Speaker 8 (34:20):
Likely, sure how do you treat for termites in a.
Home we use a lookuid.

Speaker 11 (34:26):
Treatment around the exterior of the, property so every square
in the foundation for their, soil we actually they just
dissed fill that trendurial and rod that down the side
of the. Foundation and then anywhere there's concrete like a
front porch or, garage back, ports, patio we usually will

(34:48):
drill about every eight p inches through the concrete to
get the material into the soil because these are subterranean
termites that we deal with in our.

Speaker 7 (34:55):
Area, okay, okay how often is that treat and need
to be done or has it got a ten year
lifespan or how long does that?

Speaker 11 (35:05):
Last, well that's a great. Question basically the material lasts
anywhere from five to seven, years and then we do
a renewal where we come out once a, year uh
to keep that going make sure that nothing's going on
any live termites will retreat it as long as the
renewals pay. Up BUT i would typically tell you if

(35:27):
you have had a turmite, infestation usually at a seven year,
mark you should you should probably have a booster treatment
done after.

Speaker 7 (35:34):
That, okay what are some of the things that the
homeowners can see maybe in their.

Speaker 8 (35:39):
House that gives them some concern when it comes to. Termites,
well that's a great.

Speaker 11 (35:46):
Question the biggest thing obviously is since we're past form,
season you may find some some wings around the next
tior or around the inside of the, house and some
spider webs that would be where the termites have shed
their wings after they. Swarmed or the biggest thing is
you're really looking for mud. Tubes and mud tubes are
shelter tubes about the size of a, pen and they

(36:08):
would be coming up between the, cracks like between the
foundation and floor and a, garage going up into the
drywall from the outside foundation in a. CORNER a lot
of times they'll be behind like down spouts because of the,
moisture and they'll come up through those areas and get
right into the.

Speaker 7 (36:25):
House how far can termites travel from their? Colony we
talked about forming a new, COLONY i, mean do they
travel far or is that colony in your yard?

Speaker 11 (36:39):
Now, well typically they are usually on any given. Acres
there's anywhere from seven to thirty different colonies on an.
Acre so each year they're all you, know they're all,
swarming starting new, colonies so it can get bigger and
bigger as it. Goes, however terminites are blind and they
will actually run into the house just you, know not

(37:01):
knowing what they're, doing and they can't look up the
above the soil AND i, say There's bill's, house let's
go over and eat his. House but they will travel
up to you, know like one hundred yards or something of that,
nature from what my understanding of the research that they've,
done where they've died the termite and then let them. Go,
yeah so they do. Travel they may for or, tunnels

(37:25):
i should, say in the soil to get back and
forth to the houses and the, foods or some back
to the.

Speaker 8 (37:29):
Nest all, right all, right, WELL i got a couple more.

Speaker 7 (37:33):
Questions let's take a, break and maybe you can reposition.
Yourself your phone's breaking up just a little. Bit maybe
try another. Room, Bill Bill, richter he is With One
Stop Pest. Control he is my, guest and we'll continue
our conversation at home With Gary salvin right here in
fifty five CARE Cz talk.

Speaker 8 (37:51):
Station don't miss any of your favorite.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
Shows get the podcast on The iHeart radio at fifty
FIVE krc dot.

Speaker 8 (38:02):
Com then back at it we. Go twelve forty. Eight
my guess Is Bill RICHTER i HAVE i knew Is Steve?
Richter real, Well Bill.

Speaker 7 (38:13):
Richter he is With One Stop Pest control and getting
a lot of information about ants and termites and.

Speaker 8 (38:20):
Hornets all the. Things you, Know, bill when we're talking.

Speaker 7 (38:23):
About all these we didn't even get into, spiders but
talking about all these pests that our homes seem to collect.
Them is there anything we can do as homeowners to prevent?

Speaker 8 (38:36):
This that's a good question.

Speaker 11 (38:40):
TYPICALLY i, mean, obviously if you're doing some type of
a exterior type of treatment around the exterior of your,
house that's going to eliminate a lot of different things
that are coming into the. House and also any type
of gaps or cracks where maybe intext may be able
to get, through you could use some calking uh in

(39:01):
those areas to steal that out make sure nothing can get.
In mm.

Speaker 8 (39:05):
Hmmm do you guys At Once Stop Pest control do
you get in a rodent? Control we.

Speaker 11 (39:11):
Do we do rodent control as. Well the biggest thing
that we do is mice and. Rats we don't actually
do anything for like wildlife squirrels or. Raccoons we have
other people that we prefer that out, Too but we
do think they are.

Speaker 8 (39:25):
Rodents, boy those can be tough.

Speaker 7 (39:28):
Too we went through a battle of mice because we
were doing a renovation on a kitchen and we had doors,
open and those little boogers found their way in the.
House uh without without a man's.

Speaker 8 (39:41):
Difficult, no it's pretty easy for them to get.

Speaker 11 (39:45):
In they can get into anything a little bit smaller
than the size of your pinking uh as a. Juvenile
so once they if they can get their head through the,
whole they can get their whole body.

Speaker 9 (39:54):
Through.

Speaker 7 (39:54):
Wow, well, WELL i guess the one thing we're all
kind of learning is we got to be observant to
what's going, on because if you let these things, go
whether it's ants or, mice they can take over fairly
quickly and certainly cleaning up messes in the kitchen and
crumbs and things like. That and Like joe, said the

(40:15):
bottom of the door where the dog chewed, off maybe
a little bit of the sweep or something replacing those
those all are barriers to keep those pests.

Speaker 8 (40:24):
Out of the.

Speaker 7 (40:25):
House and that plays a big part of.

Speaker 11 (40:28):
It it does it. Does we do a rodent inspection
where we come out and check for any gaps or holes,
typically if you can see the light under your garage,
door that means that there's a good possibility mice can
get through. There so we offered replacing the bottom garage
door sweep where they rode in proof garage.

Speaker 8 (40:49):
Door, sweep and we also do man.

Speaker 11 (40:51):
Doors as well that is roadent, proof and we also
replaced dryer bens with the roadent proof dryer minute that
the metal that has a magnet on it to make
sure that they can close open and close only when
the dryer's. On so there's a lot of different things
that you can, do like sealing up wheapholes if they're
really big and wide, open or your corner caps on

(41:12):
the side of the house you have vinyl. Siding those
are good ways for mice to get straight up up
into the inside of your attic and then work their
way back down into the.

Speaker 8 (41:22):
Home how about? Spiders is there any prevention on?

Speaker 11 (41:27):
That a pretty different type of intape to deal. With
we do a pretty large subdivision that over by our.
Homework we live In harrison and they actually have they
live in like a river valley and they have a
ton of. Spiders and basically we use the material that

(41:48):
we go around and take down. All we take a
webster and take down all the webs around the outside
to clean it, up and then we actually go through
and spray with a liquid that specifically for spiders uh
in our AREA Uh and it works.

Speaker 8 (42:02):
Wonderful it does a great.

Speaker 11 (42:03):
Job and the biggest thing is while we're treating for the,
spiders we're also treating for other things as, well the
other crawling insects that the spiders a reading off.

Speaker 7 (42:13):
Of now here's a question if it sounds like repair
and prevention is a is the way to go when
it comes to home. Pest do you have like a
quarterly service where you just take care of the outside
to prevent tests from getting into the.

Speaker 8 (42:35):
House, absolutely we do.

Speaker 11 (42:38):
That we do a rear crank quarterly past service and
that basically consists of doing taking down all the, webs
treating all around the exterior of the, property also putting
down a granular bait around the outside of the. House
we also treat all like the construction cues like the,
garage the concrete or the, driveway the side, walks anything

(43:01):
where the ants would follow to get into the, House
so that would be more of a preventive type of.
Treatment it also keeps things in checking, gates you, know
in between. Services but if there was something that popped
up in, between we would come out back out of
no additional costs and take care of that as long
as it's on a Quarterly, yeah all.

Speaker 7 (43:22):
Right the name of the, company, folks is One Stop Pest.
Control and as you can, Tell Bill richter is of
course very knowledgeable and you've been in the pest industry
for a long time and.

Speaker 8 (43:35):
You know where to.

Speaker 7 (43:35):
Look AND i want to do say this because it's
so true you have access to different things than the
homeowner has access. Too in other, words sometimes a six
dollars can of spray.

Speaker 8 (43:52):
Isn't going to.

Speaker 7 (43:53):
Work because it's you have access to better.

Speaker 8 (43:56):
Stuff is that?

Speaker 11 (43:57):
True that is kind of true for. Sure we're all
licensed and fully licensed in all three States, Ohio, kentucky And,
indiana so we're we're able to purchase the professional thing
that we can. Use but the biggest thing, is you,
know obviously we have a lot of people that do it,
themselves and then when when they do not and then
when they're not able to accomplish what the results that

(44:19):
you're looking, for they do give us a. Call we
help them out, yeah so that's always an. Option you
can always do it first, yourself and if it doesn't,
work give us a. Call we'd be happy to help.

Speaker 8 (44:27):
You. Yeah all, Right so how do they get a
hold of?

Speaker 11 (44:29):
You?

Speaker 8 (44:29):
Bill?

Speaker 11 (44:31):
Uh they can reach us at our phone five one

what you. Do all, Right so, there what do you think, Now?
JOE a lot going on there in. There there's a

(45:14):
whole bunch of going on. There and all the TIMES
i talk about it and have for years and, years
so many things that we do around our homes really
come back to that old walk around the. House it really.
Does just noticing, things paying attention to. Things and here's
here's a really intelligent. Statement if it looks, wrong it, is.

Speaker 8 (45:41):
AND i know many of us we see that and
we go that ain't. Right, Well i'll give it a
month and see where we. Are now go.

Speaker 7 (45:48):
Ahead if it doesn't look, great it's not right and
it needs to be taken care. Of, joe thank you
