Happy to chat with you about your home project and
(01:12):
Alan welcome.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Hey, good morning Gary. Can you hear me? Okay?
Speaker 1 (01:16):
I can thank you great deal.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
My question is I bought a house February and one
hundred year old house and I had it inspected put
up in the attic there was a lot of insulation
that the inspector couldn't see, couldn't get back to part
of it. And the result is we took all the
insulation out and found a lot of white mold up
in the attic, and I got a total space of
(01:40):
about seven hundred square feet. It's a smaller house, and
about half of that has some white mold up on
the rafters. And so what I did. I put a
fan of a pretty good fan up in the attic
to get some air out. I found out that the
soft events that look like they're vented on the outside
aren't really vented there. All right, Pallas, I'm gonna get
(02:02):
some holes up in there and get some air going
up into the attic. But my question is this mold stuff.
Is that anything I can try and fix up myself.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Depends what kind of mold it is really alan So
there's over like three hundred species of mold. Okay, most
of the mold is penicillium. I'm not downplaying that. I'm
just saying that's not a real it's not like dangerous
black mold or whatever. But without knowing the species, that's
(02:37):
hard to answer a lot of times. Rule of thumb
is and and this is going to be your decision.
Rule of thumb as if it's over like ten square feet,
probably something you shouldn't mess with yourself. But if you
choose to, there's plenty of products that will work from
the wet and forget mold killer and dis infect it,
(03:00):
and mold eliminator I think is what's called. And there's
other brands also where you spray it on and it
will kill it. You don't use bleach and water because
for somehow, some reason, mold knows it's under attack with
bleach and water and it just blows all kinds of
spores out and basically intensifies the problem. So you can
(03:27):
also have the mold tested, and I'm not talking about
a little there's a couple of ways to test it well.
There's three. Three. Primary one you can get a professional
in there and let them test it, which is the
best and most accurate. The little things you can get
at the hardware store where it's a little petri dish basically,
(03:48):
and you just put up there and mold starts growing
on it. You mail it away and they'll tell you
what it is. That's there's mold spores everywhere in an
attic where there's some ventilation coming from the outside too,
so you could grow anything in there without specifically knowing
about that mold that you're looking at. There's also one
(04:09):
called a ten minute mold test kit. It doesn't tell
you what it is, It just tells you if it's
a dangerous mold or not. Ok I think it's called
a five minute test kit. They're about thirty forty bucks.
So that's kind of my info on it. And what
you see with the so called softed ventilation and not
(04:31):
being ventilates. We've had that call several times in just
the last couple of weeks, which is interesting. I've never
really thought about that minor ventilated. But yeah, if it
looks like it is, and yeah it's a solid wood panel,
bey on there. It's not helping you out too much.
What do you have? You got a ridge vent up? There?
Speaker 2 (04:52):
No, no ridge vent I'm going to have to redo
the roof. But that's a year or two away in
the budget.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Okay, So there is a formula for that when you
get to that point for ventilation. Basically, the formula is
for every three hundred square foot print of the house,
not square footage of the house, the footprint of the house,
you need one square foot of uninterrupted ventilation. Now that
(05:21):
ventilation is always interrupted, sometimes by more than fifty percent,
so you've got to calculate that or the roofer should
know that calculation and calculate that accordingly to get that
good airflow in there. And then the other question is
how how did that happen? Was it just lack of
ventilation or is there a fan that's vented in there?
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Yeah, there was a fan in there before. I don't
know how well it was, but I think a lot
of the moisture seemed to be above where the bathroom
used to be, so it was getting up through that way.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
I'm also about can I get rid of this mold
and I go to put the insulation gets more blown
in and put it in there. Living up here in Cleveland,
all right, variable climate, would you recommend putting down a
vapor barrier before I put the insulation down?
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Yeah, there should be a vapor barrier down. There's a
couple of ways to insulate a home and ventilate a home,
and one we're seeing a lot now, but not in Cleveland.
It'd be more in the southeast, would be like a
whole house encapsulation where you're foaming the sidewalls and foaming
the underside of the roof and not putting anything on
the floor. But in Cleveland, vapor barrier on the floor
(06:36):
and probably at least eighteen inches of insulation.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Yeah, okay, very good, Gary, thanks a lot.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
All right, thank you, take care bye by all right,
you can join us again. It's eight hundred eight two
three eight two five five Jim, Welcome.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
Hi Gary.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
How you doing doing fine? Thank you?
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
I got a question.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
I've got a cabin and it closed up a lot,
and then when we go down there, it's pretty musty.
And I saw this product called a Panasonic Whisper Air Repair.
It's hardwired and it's designed to run twenty four to seven.
But I can't find any information on it on YouTube
(07:17):
or like reviews, and I wondered if you knew anything
about that.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
I'm not familiar with it. What's it do? Is it
a filter or what is it?
Speaker 4 (07:26):
It's it's something that you cut a six inch hole
in your steiling, you install it, you hardwire it, and
it's got like a little box attached to it, and
it's just supposed to be like an air filter. It's
supposed to pull in the air and somehow filters it
and it's supposed to clean the air.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Yeah, I am not familiar with it. I mean there's
a lot of those out there. So, what's the problem
in the cabin when you leave, you you got it
sealed up. Do you leave anything on? Is there any
electricity or any items that are on?
Speaker 4 (08:03):
Well, the only thing that's on would be the clock
on the stove.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
Okay, Yeah, you know of any product, if you know
of any product that they have that you could just
kind of keep.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Running twenty four to seven. That doesn't draw a ton
of I had. I had a dehumidifier and I tried
to put it on a timer so it wouldn't run constantly.
But once the if the power goes out intermittently, then
the the timer doesn't work on the dehumidifier because you
have to be it's electronic and you have to push
(08:37):
the button to turn it on.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yeah. Is so is there any heat in there? I
mean you shut off the water, you shut off the heat,
you shut everything off.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
There's no The only heat is would be from the fireplace.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
But nobody's there, right, But nobody's there. Yeah, the Yeah,
and you don't have they mold. It's just stuffy in there, correct.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
It's mildewy.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
It just like if you take if you take a
white like a floor ox wipe and wipe down the
furniture and stuff like that. You can see just a
little bit of like, uh, just coloration, So I don't know,
but you don't see any like there's no noticeable.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
So is would you consider that cabin air tight or
just kind of leaky like a cabin.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
It's it's it's a little more it's a little more
air tight, but there's the there's no flu in the chimney,
so there is the airflow from the from the chimney
because there's no flu.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Yeah, so there is a product. You know. The The
one way you would normally stop this, and I know
it's a cabin and I know you're not going to
do this is to leave the heat did fifty eight
and just have that running and you'd get some air
movement and you know, stuff like that. But that can
(10:08):
be an expense. Run the doumidifier. That's an expense. There's
a product and this will be an expense too. It'd
be under a thousand bucks, but it'd be an expense.
You may have heard me speak of a product called
an easy breathe. This is yeah, this is not a filter.
(10:29):
This is an air exchanging unit. So you you know,
normally a way works in the house is people going
in and out of the house creates a fresh air
supply and it's pulling air out. I would want you
to go to their website. I would want you to
(10:49):
call them, but I think this might be a good
answer for you, even if you had to keep a
window just cracked ever so slightly, and it costs you
four dollars a month to run this thing, and it's
just a very very very I mean it'll change the
air out in the house like six to eight times
(11:11):
a day.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
That'd be good.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Yeah, it would just be just enough. And I think
that might have that might be a good resource for you.
I just don't know about filtering it. A lot of
those types of products will require maintenance that require filters,
et cetera, et cetera, and I and I don't know
how effective it is. So you know, the one I'm
(11:35):
familiar with is that easy Breathe that would have a potential,
And you can check out their websites, the letter E,
the letter Z, and then breathe dot com. Their phone
number will be there and just give them a call
because they have consultants that will help talk you through
the whole thing. And that might be a real good
(11:56):
option for you, at least I hope. So, thank you much, Jim,
I I appreciate it. Sometimes just the uh, maybe the
blower on the furnace. I don't know if there'd be
enough PHILOSSI to really clean that up too, so I
would check and take a look at that. Easy breath,

Back at it we go. You're at home with Gary Salvan.
Thanks for joining me, and hopefully you get a few
things that kind of annoying. I know we say it
all the time, and it's so true. When you walk
and study and walk around that house and you see
things that just aren't right, go buy that it's not right.
(15:13):
You got to get to the bottom of what's the cause.
How can we fix it and get to the base
of the problem for sure, that's the key, Bob.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Welcome wello Gary. I'm calling about what I call the
September syndrome with our drywall that is over and opening
from the foyer to the living room. The opening is
about six feet and above that opening is about thirteen
inches of drywall, and every September we're I don't know
(15:46):
for how many years we get a crack. Last year
we got a crack, but it was pretty ugly. So
it went down and checked the a concrete block in
the crawl space and there was a pretty large step crack.
(16:07):
So we called in some pier people and they lasered
the basement and so forth, and found that there was
some drop from the central part of the basement. The
basement seventy one feet long, and there was quite a
drop from the center of the basement to the western
(16:28):
end of the basement. And we have had two structural engineers.
They come in and I think I could have done
a better job than they did. But anyway, we had
(16:52):
one peering done in the crawl space, limited height, and
so the workers could only drill down in place a
peer about nine feet deep. Now the rest of the peering,
since we have such wonderful soil where we live, all
the other piers, twenty one of them, I believe, went
(17:14):
down over seventy feet before they hit substantial strata. To
do anything to support the house, we didn't ask them
to raise it. We just wanted them to stabilize it.
So we thought maybe that might be the problem. The
other problem I'm always thinking is we have a long
span of trusses in the attic. It's a T shaped home,
(17:38):
and I'm always thinking that maybe just temperature or something
has to do with the movement of these long trusses
that would cause this crack. But I'm also wondering if
they're a header above the entrance between the bowyer and
the living room is not strong enough to support or something,
(18:00):
and they get a little crack when the temperatures change. Well,
September is the month.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Yeah, well you got two things that happened. Well, everything
you say, I would say, yes, it could be, it
could be, it could be, it could be. And obviously
you didn't have much luck with the structural engineer. But
that's the first thing I would do also, is to
you know, you need a structural engineer to figure out
exactly what the cause is. Something's moving or it wouldn't
(18:29):
be cracking, Okay, And then let's just take a look
at whether you brought it up. And one of the
things that happens in September is, you know, we have
a change in temperatures. We also have a big change
in humidity. I had mentioned earlier in the show that
I had even walked around start checking crown molding and
(18:49):
baseboard moining to see if there was any pool away
that I'll usually get in January because of dry I
was just doing it, not because I was concerned. I
just kind of wanted to check it out. And I
did not see anything in my house. But you know,
the only I'm not going to obviously be able to
answer the question, Bob, but the only person that I
(19:10):
would know would be a structural engineer and get in
there to diagnose what is the cause stabilization? Sure, twenty
one peers, that's a bunch, it almost sounds like, and
it's an interior issue with support more than a stabilization
of the foundation, which would have been the first thing
I would have looked at. Hope that helps. Coming up next,
we're going to talk about that algaeon roofs we did earlier.

at Home with Gary Sullivan.
Speaker 8 (22:32):
Hi, how are you doing?
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Wonderful? I can't believe it, but the weather is absolutely
perfect for your products right now.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
It is.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
It is actually the perfect time to put the wet
and forget on for the fall time. I mean, you
don't have to worry about, you know, the weather being
too warm and evaporating quickly. It's it's it's the time
and what I love to tell people, put it on
now and then you can kind of get the spring
clean because it's going to clean all winter long.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
So we're going to talk several products today. We'll start
with the one that I've been preaching for at least
ten years is the the and we talked about earlier
this morning, that black streaking on roofing. You know, it's
not really damaging your roof, it just looks horrible. You
leave it on long enough and it starts having lichen
and things like that moss, it will damage the roof.
(23:26):
So tell us about how to get rid of that
and how to apply it. And it's extra year of protection.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
Yes, absolutely, you know. Well, starting off, our products are
bleach free, which is really nice, so you don't have
to second guess, Hey, can I use it on you
know my roof shingles? Can I use it on my
metal roof. So you're going in competently knowing what you're
using is not going to harm your expensive surfaces. But
they're so easy to use with the you know, the
hosand are you going to do? You catch it to
(23:57):
your garden hose. You spray the top of the surface
and work your way down and then you walk away.
Speaker 8 (24:04):
That's it.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
You know, you don't have to do anything more. And
it's kind of shocking to people sometimes they're like, that's it,
that's all there is to it, and it is. So
then you let mother nature kind of take over from
there and the wind, the rain, you know, the sun,
everything else is going to do the clean up for you.
So you know, your your green stains will clean up
and you know a couple of weeks, it could take
a couple of months for you know, your roof to
(24:27):
come clean. But you know, it pays lots to be patient.
You're not putting you know, really harsh you know, like
on your roof. Sure, so just being a little bit patient.
And what's nice is that people kind of, you know,
over the winter, you kind of forget about it and
then you you know, you're like, oh my gosh, just
look at that. It looks beautiful and I don't have
to do anything more.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
It's amazing.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
It is a lot of times I'll get calls trees.
I'm sure you guys do too. Is when we talk
about the streaking. They want to know, Zach, that what
it is and they think it's mold. No, it's fungus
at sound, et cetera. Do you have anything for mold
on the inside of the home. We've had a couple
of calls today. One was in an attic with he
called it white mold. He didn't know the species or anything,
(25:09):
and they I know there's different ones, and he was
wondering if that was something he could tackle himself. I
mentioned the disinfectant mold killer. Is that something you would
use for then?
Speaker 5 (25:20):
Yeah, we do. We have the indoor MOULDI mildew product,
So that's what you want to use for indoors like
up in the attic area. Now, if you are you're
getting molled, say in the bathroom and stead, we have
a brand new product on the market.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
It's a mold and mildew.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
Product from there and again all bleach free, so you
just go in, you spray it on and it's in
a small or like sixteen point nine ounce bottle. Okay,
it's called what Forget Multi Miilidy Cleaner, and you'll find
that one at like Target, at Walmart, Lows, all those places,
you know, go online, take a peek and buy the
store near you with that one, and you just put
(26:03):
it on you let it do its thing. If you've
got a really bad case, you might want to kind
of you know, like agitate it a little bit, but
it's going to clean up beautifully. Those things are going
to you know, come right out. And actually this new
one that I'm talking about, they just want Good Housekeeping
Award for that one for the bathroom in twenty twenty five.
So yeah, the over cleaning and they were thrilled.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
Yeah for sure, exactly. Yeah, Fall clean time shifting outside again,
you got a newer product, which by the way, is
an awesome product, you know for cleaning the roof, and
it appears almost the exact same hoseen sprayer. It's you
can clean your screens and your windows outdoors at the
same time.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
Yes, we Forget Window and screen cleaner again. It comes
in that same great hose and bottle that you see
for the outdoor product. So again You just touch it
to your guard in the hose, you spray it on,
you let it sit for a little bit, and then
you rinse it clean again. You don't have to take
off your screens and you know, like over the summer
(27:11):
and all the dirt and the pall and everything that's
kind of built up on all of that. Sure, it's
a hassle to pull everything out, you know what I mean,
and go a hose and have to brush it all down.
But this really just takes all the hard work out
of it. You can do thirty six thirty six windows.
That's the one bottle of the windows, which is amazing.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
You keep having these products that are like so easy,
they're hard to believe they.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
Work right, I know, I know, but that's the goal.
We're really we're taking conventional cleaning methods that have been
you know, they're kind of a pain and they take
time and energy, and we're like, what can we come
up with that kind of makes it simple for people.
That way, you don't dread it, you don't put it off.
You're like, hey, I can do this in a couple
hours and get onto the you know, the soccer game
(27:56):
with the kids or whatever I watch my favorite football game.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Save a couple hundred bucks. Having somebody cleaner windows and screens.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
Well too, right, Absolutely, it gets expensive. So here's here's
a do it yourself option. I think that people will
really love to give.
Speaker 8 (28:13):
It a shot.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
Yeah, somebody call me it is. Does that really work? Gary?
So you sound like me, That's what I always say.
That's what we say. I well, let me try it,
and yeah, it really does work. It's very easy to use.
Very Yeah. This year it's been dusty and dry the
second half. So you know, even if you're running an
(28:35):
irrigation system, you have water spots on the windows. I
mean you said pollen in the spring. I mean there's
a lot of gunk that accumulates out there.
Speaker 5 (28:44):
You do you kind of forget about what's floating around
and what the wind's kicking up. And yeah, So again
easy solution for you out there, just to click fix.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
Yeah. And then this kind of goes with cleaning also,
and especially it also goes with September and that is
a product you introduced. Gosh, I don't know how many
years ago it's been probably sold, I don't know. The
Miss Muffets Revenge Getting rid of spiders talk to me
because they're active.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
They are active, you know, I mean this time of year,
we've got mating season. The temperatures are shifting, so they're
moving from outdoors to warmer areas headed inside. You know,
they're they're drawn, you know, to the light areas around
your porches because that's where the insects are. So you're
seeing them a lot more this time of year, definitely,
(29:40):
and you're like, what's happening all these cobwebs and everything.
So Miss Muffet's Revenge is a great product. Again, another one.
You just kind of spray it on there, you let
it kind of sit and you can come back the
next day and then brush down all those cobwebs. And
it's great for indoor and outdoor. So this good. They
love it.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Yeah, this is a good tip for everybody. Also, you
say indoor and outdoors, got an embasement, You get those
joist pockets and they usually got some just fiberglass insulation
stuff stuffed in there. It's not air tight at all,
and spiders love and cobwebs love to be in that area.
So you spray the spider web and everything and then
(30:23):
knock it down.
Speaker 5 (30:25):
Yeah. Absolutely, So yeah, just spray that area, and then
you can also spray like a perimeter of your house
and thinking inside just to kind of create a barrier
to keep them out too. So you're kind of getting
a super one there. You're getting rid of what you
got and keeping them out.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
So and that functions for a while, that stays active.
That's not a just hit and done. I mean, you know,
it's not like we're spraying to killt the spider. We're
creating a barrier.
Speaker 5 (30:52):
Yeah, exactly. So you like, indoors, you'll get to twelve
months if you put that on there, you know you'll
you'll be good for about twelve months with that outdoors.
You depends on how much rain is hitting that barrier.
So you know, you just kind of pay attention. If
you notice your getting spiders again, just put another real
quick spray on.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
Again.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
We have these bottles that are you know, sixty four ounces,
so you can do that whole most houses you can
do the full you know, exterior of foundation and you're
good to go.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
So so, Teresa, did you come up with the name.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
No, but I wish I could take credit for it.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Oh, I wish you could too. Miss Muffet's Revenge I
always say it's the it's the product with the best
name ever.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
Yeah, or invntor actually came up with that name down
in New Zealand.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Is that right? Yes, that's awesome. Your products are pretty
much everywhere now, arte you I mean, you know Walmart,
Lowe's Home depot. I'm sure you got it on Amazon.
Everybody's on Amazon had right, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (31:55):
So pretty much if you visit our store locator, you
can look up all the different products that we have,
the new backround products that I was saying, We have
melodies like sixteen point nine ounce bottles. You can get
those at Walmart and Target and Lows Now, so those
are all out there, and that you know our home depot, Lows, Walmart,
Amazon always have. You know, a lot of the DIY products.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
The outdoor cleaners that we were talking about in the
beginning of the show or the beginning of our conversation.
I said, boy, this weather is absolutely perfect for your application.
Can you talk to us a little bit about application
of this product, not on how we know that, but
what would be the ideal I know, like some of
(32:41):
the heat we had earlier in the summer when it
was in the nineties and the sun's out. That's probably
not the best application, seems to me. We're going into
the perfect weather for application. We are.
Speaker 5 (32:54):
Again, the big thing is you when you apply the products,
you want them to be able to sit on the surface,
you know, and work. So you don't want them to
hit a really warm surface because then they evaporate quickly.
They don't have time to do what they need to do.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
You know.
Speaker 5 (33:10):
Even in the window cleaner, same kind of thing. You
don't want to spray that, you know, when you've had
really hot windows, you know, you want to make sure
you got some shade going on early in the morning.
Those type of you know, cool temperatures are best for
any of these types of applications because we want to
make sure you've get the results. You know that we're
promising so well.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
We got the weather for you, we got the products
for you. No excuses anymore, no excuses, right, absolutely.
Speaker 5 (33:37):
No reason to procrastinate.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
Yeah, I hear, you have plenty to do. My list
continues to grow. Thank you so much for your time today, Teresa,
appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (33:46):
Oh, thank your good one.
Speaker 1 (33:48):

We thank Teresa, and several people call in and said,
what was the name of that product? Well, it's Wet
and Forget. So it's wet. Let her in and Forget.
If you want to go to their website and see
all their different products, we talked about four of them.
(37:13):
It's Wet and Forget dot com and again you got
a store locator. But I can assure you they're pretty
much everywhere at this point. Wonderful products. I've used them
for years, and you know, when I started, probably after
about I don't know five years of doing this show,
have been doing it almost thirty nine years. One of
(37:34):
the things that I would always say, in fact it's
been thirty nine years, was I'm all about easy and
I am and you probably are also, and that is
you know when we're working our free time, Well, for
most people it's the weekends. And I've got things I
want to do on the weekends, right, and I don't.
(37:57):
I also want to get some work done around the
home on weekend. So I want it to be easy.
Not all projects, they're not. Some are very complicated. Sometimes
you're going to have to get somebody to help you.
But generally most of us want to find that one
project that we can take care of that's relatively easy.
(38:17):
In the product name, again, because I'm still getting people,
you're still getting calls. Well, we said it many times
in the interview, but it's wet and forget and the
website's Wetinforget dot com. You got the window and screen cleaner.
You got the wet and Forget exterior cleaner. You got
the wet and Forget disinfected mold eliminator. You got the
miss Muffets Revenge. They got a whole bunch of products.
(38:38):
We talked about those four. All right, let's get back
to the phone calls we got Rose Rose, Welcome.
Speaker 9 (38:45):
Good morning, Thank you for taking my call. You bet
My question is in we I live in a brick
home and a neighbor's friend installed one of those frost
free faucets. You know that you don't have to drain
in the winter, right, Okay, I live in a brick house,
(39:09):
and the other day I was at the facet and
the ring around the fawcet covers the original hole in
the brick. However, I can stick my fingers, I would say,
two fingers along the pipe that goes into the house.
(39:31):
Do I need to fill that with any kind of insulation?
Speaker 1 (39:36):
You probably should put something in there. You could put
a calking, you could put expandable foam.
Speaker 9 (39:44):
Just yeah, I was thinking of the foam.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that would be ideal. The advantage of that,
of course, is you can keep the insects out of
that hole. You can keep cold temperatures out of there.
And that's a really good tip to rose, and I
pass this on to anybody. Wherever there's penetrations going through
(40:07):
the envelope of the home, the brick, the sighting, it's
really imperative that they are relatively air tight. If you
can put two fingers in that hole, I mean a
mouse could go up that wall and get in there
and be inside your house and no time at all.
We had calls with hornets getting inside a home and
(40:28):
actually building their nest inside a home. And then we
got the cold air, we got ants, we got bugs,
we got all kinds of things, and that's their entry way.
When I'm talking about taking that walk around the home
and looking for things that don't look right, you did
exactly that. There's even some products out there. One of
(40:49):
them is called more Tight. It's a clay mouldible, so
it comes in it looks like a roll of gray string,
but it's multible. So if you don't want to mess
around with expandable foam, you can just take that more Tight.
It's just like a clay packing and just push that
in there. Just seal that up and then you'll be
(41:10):
on your way. But yeah, definitely get something in there. Rose,
thank you much for the call we got. Michelle. Michelle, welcome, Hie.
Speaker 8 (41:20):
We put a slooter system like heated tile floor in
our bath, in our shower, uh huh, several years ago,
and I've been trying to clean every once in a
while that it still has like that moldy smell or
musty smell, and I think it's the ground, but I'm
(41:43):
not sure that I looked at the wet and forget
that you talk about, but it said for non taurus surfaces,
So I didn't know if there was something you could
recommend for the heated tiling floor.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
Yeah, so is it dained? Is there discoloration or are
you just smelling something?
Speaker 8 (42:06):
Mostly just smelling that I do see like in especially
to grow out like a kind of orange.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
Ye sing, Well, they do have that wet and forget
shower and bathroom cleaner that we are just speaking of,
which removes molds and mildews, and that discoloration is probably
the mold and mildew. And that is a you know,
(42:33):
if it's sealed, it's a relatively you know, non pores surface.
I mean, I guess you could call it pores, but
only by like one percent. I would certainly give that
a try. Another thing you might want to try is
there's a product we talk about by Jaws Jaws called
(42:54):
cream cleanser, which is excellent.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (42:58):
I would try that. How Whoever, I do want to interject,
if you're having that in a bathroom and it's smelling
moldy and just usually those stains don't really have much odor,
if any and I would venture to guess that the
odor smell that you have in that bathroom is probably
from the drain and what you might want to do
(43:21):
is get some get an enzyme drain cleaner, not an
acid based drain cleaner, but an enzyme based drain cleaner.
It's a powder. You mix it with water and pour
that down there, or get a snake and snake that out.
A lot of times we'll get hair and soap which
creates that smell, and it just slightly slows down the
(43:44):
drainage of the shower. A lot of times we don't
even we don't even catch it. So I would check
that out. All right, Thank you much for the call.
