Speaker 1 (00:02):
The best way to wake up in the morning a
hot cup of coffee. Add Brian Thomas Monday morning at
five on fifty five KRC, the talk station All right
back at It we go at Home with Gary Salmon.
Just had a discussion about a wash machine and being smelly,
and there's many things that can be I've talked about
a product called Awesome that eliminate biofilm. He had used

(00:27):
that didn't take care of the problem. But dry traps,
mold around the hoses, mold around the door seals, all
could be some issues there.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Also Jim Parker, he is with the.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Company called Awesome and Jim, welcome again that home with
Gary Salvin.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
How you doing?

Speaker 3 (00:49):
I'm will and Gary? How are you today?

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Doing fine? Doing fine?

Speaker 1 (00:52):
You got any quick tips Christmas? Thank you, Merry Christmas
to you. Any tips on the fell that has a
smelly laundry room?

Speaker 2 (01:02):
I know you do be a lot of it. You know,
there's a lot of things.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Probably the Yeah, the bacteria is probably the cause. It's
just a matter of finding it and determining where that
bacteria is. And if you know, a lot of times
with the especially the front loader machines that enter that
seal that's on that front door. Do you pull that
seal back just a little bit. My goodness, gracious, the
amount of the amount of biofouling and gunk that's behind

(01:29):
that is is it's an impressive amount.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
How's that for a yeah word, so, yeah, that's kind
of where I took them.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Yeah, you can use the awesome I mean, even if
you're not you're not using the product to run it
specifically through the washing machine.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
You can take.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
A you know, let's say a t spoon of that
mix that with uh, you know, sixteen to twenty four
ounces of warm water, let it dissolve. You can actually
take a little spray bottle and spray on the backside
of that on the inside of that seal. Let it
sit for five or six minutes, and then just get
a nice rag.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Into a white right out for you. Okay.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
It's kind of amazing the amount of gunk that comes
out of there.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Okay, Okay, that's a good tip. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
I told him, you know, check all the pipes, make
sure they have traps, make sure there's water in them.
He said he had a floor drain that the hose
or pipe went into. So I wasn't really sure how
that was sealed up or anything, but I said, you know,
if there's a plug or something, look on the backside
of that and see if that's a mess or anything.
And the first thing I talked about was what you

(02:27):
talked about, the seals. So so the Awesome tell us everybody,
let's start from the beginning.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
You know, what is it? Why do we need it?
What's it do?

Speaker 4 (02:41):
So Awesome is a product that works as a surfactant
with regards to what we call biofilm, and biofilm is
a combination of bacterias, mold, and funguses. These generally grow
anywhere where you have water in plumbing systems. So think

(03:02):
of your closed loot plumbing systems, your dishwasher, your washing machine,
which we just spoke about, also your garbage disposal, hot tubs,
swimming pools, jetted bathtubs. And then you also have free
standing pipes. So your shower pipe that you know, there's
it's not a it's not a closed loop system because
you've got water coming into the top and it's not
you know, but your your your shower drains, your sink drains.

(03:26):
All of those, over the course of time build up bacteria.
Think about your your bathroom sink, you're brushing your teeth, you're,
you know, doing all the things that we do in
the morning, you know, washing your face or shaving.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
All of that stuff goes down the drain.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
Well, that's coming off of our bodies in some form
or fashion, and that, over the course of time builds
up in the plumbing system. And this is where we
form what's called biofilm. And biofilm think of it in layers.
Think of I like to use this anal gef. Think
of it as puff pastry dough. If you ever had

(04:03):
a Danish pastry and it's got those layers of dough,
it's you know, it's fantastic and it.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Makes the most beautiful it's nice.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
I know, right, makes me hungry too, But that's what
But that's what biofilm is.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
It.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
It creates a layer and then it forms an outer shell,
and then it forms another layer, and it keeps building
on that. And in a standard washing machine or a
you know, a jacuzzi bathtub, jetted bathtub, you might have
millions and millions and millions of layers of bacteria, mold,
and fungus in there. And so what awesome does is
it goes into the plumbing system and actually creates works

(04:39):
as its effective. Like I said at the beginning, it
creates millions of tiny little holes in the outer layers,
and then the water pressure comes through and actually pushes
that that bacteria, mold, and fungus out of the plumbing
system and and cleans it to the point where you
don't you don't necessarily have that problem at that exact moment.
The downside is in bacteria is a very resilience, a

(05:06):
single cell organism. They grow anywhere everywhere. And if you
get if a molecule or a cell of bacteria can
get a foothold, that's going to multiply faster than then
you can think. So's It's one of those things that
you just have to constantly repeat yourself, especially in things
where we're not using a sanitizer.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yeah, so that brings me, you know, if we're worried
about a vanity sink and maybe shaving. So we got skin,
we got oils, and then we got all these gel products.
The biggest problem in some of today's home has gotta
be jetted beth tubs and jacuzzi tubs.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I mean we're immersing our whole body in that.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Correct they are.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
They are The word the word I like to use
is is they are extremely dirty. And when I say
extremely dirty, I want you to think of the dirtiest
potential thing you can think, and magnify that by a thousand.
Jetted tubs are closed loop systems that, like you said,
we immerse our entire bodies into the bathtub, so all

(06:17):
of the the nasties that are on our bodies right
come off of us while we're in that tub.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
We run the jets.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
It gets all fine and dandy, We enjoy the tub,
and then we.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Drain the tub.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
Well, that water that's got all that, you know, all
of our skin particles and anything else that was on
our bodies, that just sits in the plumbing system and
it grows.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
It's easy to.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Grow that that pub is sitting at your house. You know,
most people I would assume keep their house between like
maybe sixty five and seventy five degrees somewhere in there.
That's a perfect environment for bacteria to grow. And it
is absolutely so the problem with the jetted tub is
that they're not. You cannot just even though so awesome

(07:00):
is by far and away the strongest biocleaner on the
market anywhere. It's still going to take multiple cleanings to
get a jetted bathtub completely clean. And then once you
do get it clean, you know, we recommend even if
you're not using the tub, we recommend, you know, doing
a purge on it every four to six weeks, just
as regular upkeep and maintenance.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Boy, I'll tell you it's it's got to be disgusting
when you use the awesome in the tub and flush
that thing out.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
It is. It's horrible.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
And yeah, it's probably the number one call we get,
especially in the winter time. Not everybody's using their hot
tubs this time of year. Everybody, you know, most people
have a hot tub or purging it in the fall
or the spring, you know, especially those of us in
the northern climates. So we deal with a lot of
jetted bathtub issues right now.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
And I had a true story. I had a gentleman who.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
I was on the phone with two or three weeks ago,
and he called me an absolute frustration and he had
purged his jetted tub I think at the time was
right around fifty times, and he was he was looking
for you know, if he was he was looking for
someone to give him a vote of confidence that he's
getting he's getting where he needs to be, and he

(08:09):
was seeing reductions and but it was still coming out.
And I explained this whole process to him, and it
made it finally clicked in his brain that wait a second,
this You know there is absolutely no sanitizer that we're using.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
We don't we don't put.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
Chlorine in our jetted bathtub when we go to take
a bath, right, and so there's nothing killing anything in there,
and so over the course of years, that builds up.
So I for all the listeners out there, if you
have a jetted chacuzzi bathtub in your in your master bathroom,
I highly encourage you to find our product, whether it's
on our website or on Amazon. I recommend the liquid

(08:46):
products just because you can use those in cold water,
so you're enough to burn out your hot water tank
and purge those tubs even if you're not using the tub.
The problem is sometimes this bacteria became you know, it
becomes airborne and.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
You've got been by getting sick.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Absolutely, these jetted tubs have been just like hot tubs.
People get sick all the time from them. I don't
mean to scare people. But it's half an aspect and
it doesn't always have to be serious. But you know,
if if people are questioning, you know, why do I
why don't I always feel like I've got allergies in
my house? Or why do I feel like it's you know,
breathing problems.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
It couldn't be.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
It's not always traced back to that. And I'm not
going to sit there and speak for every single home.
But there are bacterias, specifically Legionella. That's a airborne bacteria
air conditioning units, hot tubs, jetted bathtubs.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
It exists and it kills people. Wow, So I and
we can.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
You can google Legionella outbreaks in this country and you'll
see half a dozen to a dozen outbreaks every single
year in this country that are that that form that
become from there.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
They're all based on water, and its kind.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Of to use a hot tub or a jetted a hotel.

Speaker 4 (10:01):
I'll tell you that, no, I would to be completely
transparent with you, I personally.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
Wouldn't you know you bring up the.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Hotels and I if you walk into a hotel swimming
pool or a hot tub or any hot sub for
that matter, and all as you smell of that old
riding smell of chlorine.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
I would highly recommend staying out of that tube.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Does chlorine do anything at all?

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Yeah, chlorine kills bacteria.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Now there's a catch. Bacteria kills what are called free
floating planktonics, which is this is bacteria that's that's come loose,
that's just free floating in the water. It's just out
there having a good time, waiting to infect somebody. So
the chlorine goes into the water and a molecule of
chlorine hits that molecule of bacteria. They both destroy each other.

(10:49):
They're dead.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
But now you get that smell.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
That's where you get that chlorum chlormade. It's where bacteria.
Chlorine is actually killing a lot of bacteria and you're
getting that odor.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
So, like I said, if you're getting.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
That odor, there's a lot of bacteria out there that
I would probably stay away from. So even hotels, we
do have several hotels that that buy our products and
a commercial side and purge their hot tubs. And I
fully endorse going into those hot tubs because I know
that they're purging them.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
And clean them.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
But you shouldn't have to use a whole lot of
chlorine in a hot tub or a swimming pool if
you're purging it on a regular basis to keep everything clean.
And that's kind of the key is just we you know,
I don't want to scare people, Yeah, but.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
It's maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
We deal with things a lot, you know, and there's
a lot of things people just don't know to do.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
No, and that's the and you know, that's the that's
the we go to go back to jetted bathtubs for
a second. One of the a lot of the companies
out there that manufacture these jeted bathtubs, you know, they're
they're informing their customers use all kinds of different things
to clean them, anything from vinegar to just dumping bleach
into their tub to using dishwasher detergent. None of that

(12:06):
is actually going to do anything once you have the
biofilm matrix that's already already built in. Once that's there,
the only products that you can use are purge products.
So Awesome is obviously the one that I own and
represent and talk about. There's others out there as well,
but you know, the reality is is that you need

(12:28):
a strong product to go in there and knock this
out and and not spend an arm.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
And a leg doing it. And that's what we like about.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Awesome is that it's a it's an extremely strong product.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
So biofilm is almost like a jello.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
It can it sometimes is it's and when it comes out,
it's it's very sticky.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
It's almost like a.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
Glue pudding, like you know, it's if you look at
some pictures. We've got a YouTube channel that we show
videos on and and all.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
This other stuff.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
It's it's the way, I'll tell you what it's.

Speaker 3 (13:00):

Speaker 3 (13:15):

Speaker 4 (13:17):
We've got if you go on if you're if you're
on the website up on the top right corner, there's
a button I believe it's called resources. If you click
on that resources. Uh, there's definitely some videos. We're actually
we're gonna have a link on there for the YouTube channel.
We've actually just in the last six months really started
working and building up our YouTube channel, which is if
you go to YouTube and search Awesome Watercare. It'll come

(13:39):
up with all of our videos, but we are going
to eventually get that linked over to the website. Nice
just because it's important for customers visually. You know, we
can sit here and talk all day about it, but
when you visually see what's coming out of these things,
it's and again it's not.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
Meant to scare you.

Speaker 4 (13:55):

that was disgusting just to find out what was in
those pipes. And I encourage people to go to the website.
