Speaker 1 (00:01):
The best way to wake up in the morning, a
hot cup of coffee and Brian Thomas Monday morning at
five on fifty five krc D talkstation.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
All right, Beck, we get we're ready to go. We're
gonna talk about rust. We all experience having rust in
different areas of the house, especially this time of year,
so we're going to talk about removing it, unsticking nuts
and bolts, and also protecting the surfaces from ever rusting.
Ted Bradley's my guest. He is with Blaster and Ted

(00:33):
welcome again to that home with Gary Sullivan.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Hey Gary, how are you doing fine?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
You're doing it fine? How about you? Excellent?

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Yeah, I'm doing pretty good. Just up here at the
cottage on a lake, you know, doing some preventative maintenance
and making sure that things are working properly and protecting
my investments. That's what it's all about. It.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Well, I'll tell you what. That's what we talk about
all the time. It's a big investment and protecting it's
the key. Talking about Blaster products, I mean it is.
I guess I don't know of a bigger one, number
one product for rust, and we think of the PB blaster,
But tell me a little bit about the legacy of blaster.

(01:13):
How long has that been around?

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Oh yeah, it's an awesome story. It's William Wesley, who
is we call him a bathtub chemist, and he literally
mixed up this the original formulation in his bathtub for
one of his friends who had a working in phosphorous
minds down in Florida. And he put this formulation together

(01:35):
back in nineteen fifty seven, nineteen fifty seven, and you know,
it's been number one ever since. It's really a great product.
And when they realized how good it was, he said,
you ought to get this out and put this into
the hands of mechanics.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
And once mechanics got their hands on the end of it,
I mean they loved it. They want to where can
you get it? Where can you get it? And from
there it just went to all retail locations and and
that's where the legacy began.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
That's incredible. And so I'm assuming when you say mixing
it in the bathtub, it was the original PB blaster products.
Which it's a penetrant that's different than other sprayed lubricants.
This penetrates the rust, that's.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Right, that's right. It wicks into all those crevices and
little plates of rust and it breaks those or breaks
those plates down, and it and it knocks that rust
down so that you can remove those those rusty fasteners.
It's it's really great, you know, on loves and break
break bolts and exhaust manifolds, and it's great in the

(02:44):
garage or the farm. And it comes in a small
spray can, aerosol can, or it comes in a liquid
gallon for those real heavy, heavy rusted projects that you're
working on.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Sure, it's interesting when you say in a garage, because
you're right. Take it from the car to bicycles, to edgers,
to lawnmowers. In fact, every time I use my peb blaster,
and everybody's probably got one sitting on their workbench. And
if you don't, you should. I am amazed by it
ted because you know, all of a sudden, I can't

(03:19):
I can't move the nut from the bolt, and I spray.
And we'll talk about how the spray it on there too,
because you've advanced this product over the years, spraying it
on the nut and the bolt assembly and walking away
and just let it sit there for a while and
then when you come back. Now, you couldn't even budge

(03:40):
this thing right and now all of a sudden it's
a little and it breaks loose. It's amazing.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yeah, everybody has their pbe story, and mine is I
always tell the story about my dad and I were
working on an old boat that had a had an
old cable steering mechanism on there and the cable was
completely frozen. It was it was an old line in
both these are lake erie boats, they're great, and it

(04:12):
was completely solidly locked up with rust. And we hung
that thing from the top of the garage and we
put we put PB blaster in there. Every every couple
of hours would spray a little bit down in there,
and spray a little bit down in there, and pretty
soon it leaked out the bottom. And we worked at
cable until it was loose and put it back together

(04:33):
and it worked great.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Everything that is amazing. And the folks at PEB Blaster
and Blaster Products you always are kind of building a
better mouse trap. And I guess it's been a number
of years now. You came up with a pro straw.
When I talked about spraying it on to a bolt
in another assembly. Sometimes that's not so easy and you
just need a little bit, but you got to reach

(04:55):
up and behind to get to it. And you invented
something where you can just get a little shot of
that on there, or a big shot that's.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Right, that's right. This is amazing, This is really amazing.
It's it's innovation either in the in the formulation or
in the delivery system. And we came out with the
pro straw. It's a patented device and it allows you
to spray a fan pattern for those big areas that
you want to knock down and and or flip the
straw up and you can shoot a stream and get

(05:24):
to those hard reach areas. And also if you're working
on a let's just say a hot water tank down
in the basement and you don't want to get this
stuff all over the place. We have a patented delivery
system that allows you to control the flow. So it's
a little dial on the back of the of the
can you dial it back? You can put just a

(05:47):
little drop of product right where you want it, And
it's amazing.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Yeah, that is really improved that whole delivery system. And
it is a great invention. A PB blaster that you
can find it just about anywhere. Automotive stores certainly hardware stores.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
So it's easy to find.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
It's easy to find.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
It's real easy to find. I mean, is that all
the automotive retailers. It's at all the farm, Farm and Egg,
it's all the co op hardware stores, it's all the
big box hardware stores. I mean literally, drive anywhere in
five minutes you'll find a canopy besture.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Well, I guess one thing we talk about on this
show a lot is how to fix things. The PB
blasters certainly falls in that category. And then when we
talk about fixing things, we always talk about, well, how
can we prevent that? And you've got a product introduced
a number of years ago called surface shield and that

(06:44):
prevents corrosion.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
It is a excellent, excellent preventative product. You know, we
like to call ourselves rustbelt warriors up here in Cleveland, Ohio.
And there's quite a bit of RUSS that forms around.
You know, they might in the salt down underneath the
lake and they bring it up and put it on
the on the highways and so everything gets rusted. And
so we like to think that we know RUSS. You know,

(07:09):
we need to penetrate for USS. We could remove rust
that we can protect with this surface shield and it's
it's kind of our newest product. It's a landline based
moisture wicking product. It's for all it's really for all
metal surfaces. It doesn't have a strong odor, it doesn't fag,
and it's it's the longest lasting product in the market.
It will last up to two years.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Wow, okay.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
And it's great for coating undercarriages, snow plows, snow shoots, tools,
farm implements, mower decks, trailers, trailer hitches. This stuff is amazing.
You just spray it on, let it set up for
a while, and then go ahead and use your use
your equipment.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
You know, in this summer, especially where I'm at, we've
had a really hot, humid, wet summer, and so many
people have barns and outbuildings and shops inside them, and
you know, we got all our tools, whether they're garden
tools or hand tools, and that moisture just from the humidity. Really,

(08:11):
it doesn't ruin a lot of tools, but it makes
them a lot less effective, and eventually it can ruin them.
You can use them on shovels and spades and axes
and hammers and all kinds of things.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Oh, yeah, oh yeah, it's amazing how fast a little
surface rust will appear when you're in those those damp environments.
And like you said, if you're if you're out in
the garage or in a shop or down in the basement,
and you know this this product is great. It comes
in it's an amber color.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
We also we also have a new product which is
it's a black oh. And this is really good. This
is really great for undercarriages of cars or you know,
people that just want to coke that rust and cover
up that rust, but underneath the car. So yeah, it
works works really really great. You can get this stuff now.
Is now it's available at all stores at home depots,

(09:06):
so you know, any home deepot you go to, you
should be able to buy a can of surface shield.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
So do you spray on brush on both black amber?
I got that right?

Speaker 3 (09:19):
You there's aerosol can. There's an aerosol can. But it
also comes in a gallon, right, and it also comes
in a five gallon container that you would use a
siphe and speed gun if you wanted to, let's just say,
do the undercarriage of a car, right, you know you
would you would probably not want to use an aerosol
can although you can for sure it works. It works

(09:43):
really well when when used with a siphoned feet gun. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Well, I know you're focusing on cars and bigger things.
I'm kind of just thinking in workshops circular saw blades.
I can't tell you how many times were different places.
And that blade is terrible looking.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
It's rust absolutely.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
And you know in the shop that's just hanging in
its human and there they rust.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Yeah, oh yeah, I got my my son's basketball basketball
hoop is is anchored down outside the driveway. Those bolts
and they start rusting over time. You just take a
little can, shake it up, just a couple of little
shots on those nuts and bolts and and they're perfect.
You know, they'll last forever.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
That's interesting to well, I know Blaster does have a
whole line of products. We've just focused on a couple
of them for rust. This time of year. I've talked
about your you know, your silicons and teflons for tracks
and windows, you know in the spring and the fall.
So we're getting close to that this time of year

(10:47):
when we have extremes heat and then extremes cold. Your
garage door lubricants is a go to product. I hear
people using all kinds of crazy things on uh, you know,
springs and rails and rollers. That isn't really necessarily good.
Your garage door lubricent is the best I've ever used.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
It's amazing, It is amazing. It's it's it's It is
a silicon based formula with with a zinc additive, so
that zinc works under those extreme high pressures that a
garage door will experience. And you can coat, like you said,
you can coat the rollers, you can coat the springs,
you can coat all the articulating points of a garage door.

(11:29):
And you know, you could hear, you know, when you're
sitting in there. And it was it was really took
took fire when COVID all those people that were working
from home and they'd open up their garage door and
they would finally hear that thing squeaking, no kidding, and
so they they went and got a can of a
blaster garage door lube and it solved all their problems.

(11:52):
And now it's nice and quiet and missed a blast
for a long time. It's really really a.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
Good product, Yes it is. I had a caller one
time say, after he did it. He went in his house,
pressed closed the door and had to come back out
and make sure it closed.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
So you hear those kind of stories all the time.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Yeah. The website for people can check out some more
of the products and take a look at the surface
shield and the PB Blaster that we just spoke of.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
Oh yeah, www dot Blastercorp dot com. And that's the
one thing. You know, a lot of people that that
are our big PB fans, they have no idea of
all the products right that week Harry and and from
luber Kents to greases to you know, even now we've
we're the owners of the Gunk product, which is you know,

(12:41):
your your cleaners and degreasers and the liquid wrench as well,
so that brand is all under the Blaster umbrella.
