Speaker 1 (00:05):

our friend, mister Ron.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
I'm your friend, you are my friend.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (00:16):
I'm all right?
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Good?
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Good?
Speaker 2 (00:18):
And we sounded better than you were a little while ago.
Well give me a couple of minutes. That sound terrible.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Oh we're gonna talk roofing. What do you think?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
I don't know anything about roofing. You don't, No, I don't.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
It's your time to learn.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
So now I'm gonna learn. Today.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
We have Dwayne Brandstetter from kangaroof and join us. And
Dwayne tell me a little bit about Kangaroofing if you would.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
Well, we're locally owned company, family operated, been in business
for about twenty seven years now. It's been uh it's
been a nice ride.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
You know, we're excited for twenty twenty five. We're looking
for looking for some big things and uh happy to
be a part of this program today. Sure I never
have gotten a chance to meet these fellas, and this
is I feel like I'm with some celebrities here.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
So yeah, we're big time boy. I'll tell you what
Gary will autographs.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Oh yeah, we're huge, but you won't find me on
the ladder anymore though.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Well fortunately I'm not on one as much as I
used to be. But uh, I've got a lot of
good troops out that that that work at Kangaroof that
are able to get that done for us. And uh,
pretty blessed in that regard.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
We've got some got a good team.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
And uh again we're excited for the year twenty twenty five,
looking looking for big things.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
So what is Kangaroof for an open question?
Speaker 4 (01:46):
Yeah, you're strong, that's a great question. Kangarof is the
the name of our company? We Uh, we were brandstead
Of Roofing for the first I think seven or eight
years in business, and then we we adopt the name
Kangaroof and it just seemed like it was catchy and
might grab people's attention. And uh, it was either that
(02:08):
or they're gonna think that's the corniest name in the world.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Or do I'll remember you. That's what I said. It's
one of those names that you always remember it.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Yeah, absolutely, it's it's it served as well and people
do remember it. And I think our top of mind
awareness across the city is pretty high. It's a memorable name,
it's easy to market, so we've we've been happy with it.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Duyne.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
I guess one of the questions I have is when
you go out to give a bid on a roof,
there's so many parts to the whole system.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
It's just not about shingles.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
You got flashing, an ice guard and all that.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
How do you how do you give your estimates?
Speaker 1 (02:45):
How do you give several on different you know, uh,
bells and whistles I'll call them, or do you give
what your system is?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:54):
I mean the difference I guess if there is one
between us and in some other companies is we we're
similar similar sales approach that a lot of companies use.
We're going to give you options. You know, I hate
to say it like this, but it's almost like a
good better best, Sure, but even our good is exactly
(03:16):
what it says it's good. We only use the top
quality components, uh, top quality shingles. And you know that
really doesn't differentiate us from a lot of companies out there,
because I think there's quite a few companies that that
do the same thing. I think what we try to
focus on is is our core values. You know, uh, faith, family,
(03:40):
and excellence are our core values, and we try to
give them examples of what we you know, who we
are because at the end of the day, when you
have to make that choice, and obviously putting a roof
on is is a huge choice.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
It's a huge decision. There's a lot of money involved.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
And we want to we kind of want to tell them,
you know, what's different about us and how everybody uses
singles and a lot of people use good shingles, a
lot of people use good Valley metal, other components, Ice Guard.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Similar warranties. I think our warranties are some of the
best in the business.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
I think that's another thing that maybe separates us slightly
from some of our competition. But again, we just try
to focus on who we are.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
We try to give.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Them a picture of that so they know who they're
dealing with and who they're working with.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
So if I'm a new homeowner and I've got an
older home that we purchased it it needs a new roof,
how do you explain to me or how do you
tell me what is the best roof that I need
from my home? I mean good, better, best? Right? Yeah,
you look at my budget. Do I come up and say, well,
we're looking to spend about or do you say, you know,
here's what I would suggest you do for this particular home.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Yeah, yeah, we absolutely do that.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
Ron We The first thing we do is we try
to educate them about the different products we use, because
at the end of the day, it's their home. We
want them to be a part of that decision making process.
So we educate them on this shingle or that shingle,
this type of flashing, where the you know, ice guard,
where we're gonna put it, how much we're gonna put
you know, things like that, what kind of what kind
(05:13):
of guarantee you know, there's there's uh if we use
certain components, uh, top of the line, high quality components
were able to extend longer warranties and things of that nature.
So we educate them, We let them know all of
the options, and then we let them help help us
build that quotation. So how shingles changed over the years,
(05:33):
I mean, honestly, they you know that at one point,
I think the fiberglass shingle was over a organic base
mat I think they tried that years ago. I don't
think that went over so well. And now uh, now
with the fiberglass based mat uh, it's uh, they've gotten
they've gotten it down to where there's some pretty good
(05:54):
shingles and they've got shavels that are you know, that
are that are that are appliable. You know, even in
the winter time. Used to be wintertime installation, those shingles
would be you know, if you tried to bend them,
they they'd be brittle or they they'd crack on you.
Over time, so there's been a lot of a lot
of good innovation, uh in the uh in the aphalt
uh fiberglass shingle industry.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Yeah, even the wind ratings have increased a lot on
shingles now with the three dimensional roofing and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah, they really have. And you know, one of the reasons.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
We partner with Certainty, Certainty is one of our you know,
our is our main shingle of choice, and uh, you
know it's it's because they do stand behind their products
really well there. You know, I've been using them for
you know, I've been using Certainty for about you know,
I guess twenty five years now and really never had
any problems to speak of. One or two small hiccups
(06:44):
and they they were they were Johnny on the spot
as far as taking care of those issues. So, uh, yeah,
they're great. You know, they're they're a great company to
uh to partner with, and uh we've been well pleased
with them.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Does anybody do multiple shingle layers anymore? Like you come
out and there's are already a layer up there. I mean,
my mom's house I think has three layers of shingles
on it.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Yeah, Ron, that's a great question. Early on in my career,
I think I I think I leaned a little bit
more toward that and it just seemed like a money
saver for our customer base.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
And because of exactly doesn't add any extra protection.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
It doesn't add extra protection.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
And the long and short of it is, there's little
there's things that you could overlook when you do that,
and and not having that nice smooth substrate to lay
your new shingles over going over other shingles. Uh, you
know greatly. I didn't realize this, you know, twenty five
years ago as much as I do now, but it
greatly reduces the life expectancy of the of the new
(07:47):
roof alloid.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Some of the warranties now absolutely when you go over Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Yeah, yeah, So then why would you do it? You don't.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Anymore? Yeah, they're right, I used to.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
You do ventilation every thing for the roof and the
attic and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Is that part of the yeah, yeah, we moofing job.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Yeah, it's absolutely part, you know, And again speaking of
life expectancy, one of the key components is making sure
that the roof is properly ventilated. And by by properly ventilated,
I'm talking about, uh, you know, not just the ventilation
you see up top, but the ventilation download like along
the eaves. You have to have that cross ventilation, you
(08:25):
have to have that draw from down low, and then
you have to have a way for that hot air
to to exit the attic cavity. So, uh, there's many
types of roof ventilation. You've got your ridge ventilation, turbine vents,
power events, uh, static vents, and uh a combination.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
You know.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Different homes UH call out for different types of ventilation.
And that's one of the things we educate the customers
about when we're meeting with them, uh, to see what
ventilation produces adequate uh, you know, adequate ventilation for their
roofing system.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
In their in their home.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Yeah, well we got a couple of minutes left in.
One of the last questions I have for you is
clean up after a roof is installed is really important.
And you know, I've seen great jobs, I've seen lousy jobs.
I'm sure you have too.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
My father, he was he taught me a lot about roofing,
you know, back when I was a young, a young boy.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
And uh, and I remember.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
Many times being on his crew and uh, you know,
we'd think we were we we'd think we were done,
and we'd think that that that we were done with
our cleanup, and and Dad would say, all you're done,
huh and uh, and then he'd he'd he'd walk around
with us and show us that we weren't even close
to finish.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
So I learned that that the.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Cleanup is a vital part of doing a great job
for someone, and so our goal. He's passed that along
to me, and I'm passing on on to my sons
that when we're finished, we don't want you to know
we were there by finding bits of shingle granules and
things like that in your yard. We want you only
to be able to look up and see your brand
new beautiful roof, and that it's the only way you
know we were there. We don't want any other evidence.
(10:03):
If you, if you will, so you protect those plants too, absolutely, absolutely,
people always worried about the plants.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
You know, do you ever get anybody asking you about
rain barrels?
Speaker 3 (10:13):
Occasionally?
Speaker 2 (10:14):
What I get from my shingles in my rain barrel?
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Yeah, occasionally we have done that. Yeah, there you go,
all right, kangar roofing.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
How do people get a hold of you?
Speaker 3 (10:23):
They're doing well? We were you know you can.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
You can dial us up at five one, three, seven,
three four nine thousand, or if you're like so many
and you want to you want to go to your computer,
you can reach us at at go kanga dot net.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
And timing wise right now if I said I needed it,
we needed a new roof. Guess spring is probably getting
pretty crazy.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
It is.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
We're starting to get backed up as we usually do
this time of year, but not so badly that we
probably couldn't get to something and say three or four weeks.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
It's very good, Thank you much, Wayne, Thank you gentlemen.
It's been a pleasure. Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
You bet, mister Wilson will take a little break coming up.
We're gonna have a little discussion with our friends from
Rhino's Shield right here on fifty five AIRC Detuck Station
