to hear this amazing, amazing man Edwin black who's going
to be doing a seminar tomorrow night on Iran. Generally,
he's written a whole bunch of books. Edwin black New
York Times best selling author, Get a load of this
background investigative author of over two hundred award winning editions
in twenty languages, in one hundred and ninety countries, newspaper articles,
magazine articles. He's been well editors editors, has submitted his
(01:36):
work thirteen times for Pulitzer Prize nominations, and he has
been the author of eleven award winning best selling books.
The book most recently, Israel Strikes Iran, Operation Rising Lion.
Edwin Blackett's a real pleasure to have you on the
fifty five KRCENE Morning Show.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yes, good morning to you, and thank you for having me.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Back Operation Rising Lion, that was the israelation to go
after the Iranian nuclear weapons that they had accumulated, and
then it was sort of it was a joint operation,
if I can call it that, you're the expert, Operation
Midnight Hammer, which I understand, was the US operation to
use the bunker penetrating bombs that would destroy the enriched
(02:17):
uranium that they had stored beneath the ground. Apparently the
coordinated effort was successful. Is that your understanding as well, sir.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yes, it was successful, and thank you for explaining it
the way you have. But the definition of success is
a very fleeting one. So it's true that Operation Rising
Lion had been into works for years. In fact, my
book had been into works for years. I'd actually almost
(02:48):
finished writing it two years ago, waiting for the attack.
And then when the attack occurred, we pulled together all
the final research and its worldwide. Within two weeks, yes,
two weeks of the completion of the so called twelve
(03:08):
Day War Iran is Iran's nuclear program was obliterated. But
there are hundreds of highly enriched sixty percent HU that's
(03:30):
highly enriched uranium that they have in storage which has
not been destroyed.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Well, sixty percent enrichment that's only for on the way
to progressing toward nuclear weapons capabilities. There's no need for
sixty percent of rich uranium for domestic energy production.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Correct, no domestic energy production. If you want to enrich
a rod. To boil water for a nuclear reactor takes
about three point nine percent, So there is actually no
justification except for weaponization, and that's been that's been agreed upon. So, yes,
(04:12):
they destroyed the facilities, but the Iranians are not willing
to stop. So the question is when does war start again?
And the answer is any moment really, Yes, any moment
Israel will again strike Iran, and any moment the United
(04:35):
States may assist in that in that endeavor. Now now
sixty percent uranium. The typical expert will say, well, you
need ninety percent for a nuclear weapon, ninety percent enrichment,
But that's false. You actually can make a nuclear weapon
(04:57):
with sixty percent enrichment, which is ninety percent. These numbers
are could be confusing to listen, folks. Sixty percent is
ninety almost ninety to ninety five percent on the way
to ninety percent. Just think of boiling water. You just
(05:17):
let the water boil a little more. You need ninety
percent to miniatureize a nuclear weapon. That is to stick
it into the nose cone of a Shahab three missile
and detonated five hundred and fifty feet over the sea
over the land land to create the mushroom cloud. But
(05:42):
if you want to make one about the size of
a Volkswagen bus, and if you want to make one
that is closer to what we used at its Hiroshima
and Nagasaki, which was in the eighties, then you can
use sixty percent. And how much do they need to
(06:04):
have exactly the quantity that they need for one nuclear bomb. Now,
yesterday bb Yahoo and I'm just now coming from an
event with BBNT and Yahoo that was held last night.
BBNUT Yahoo announced that they now know this sixty is
(06:27):
But sixty per is not just something that you can
press a button with and all of a sudden it
turns into a bomb. It's got to be reprocessed through
through many other procedures. They have to turn it into metal.
(06:48):
They have to take the metal and they have to
smelt it down into age into a liquid. They then
have to shape it that It takes a lot of
work and they'll have to reconstitute and that will take time.
Now they're trying to re establish their nuclear actions at
(07:12):
a secret site. I guess it's secret for another twenty
seconds at Pickax Mountain. Pick X Mountain, pick Ax Pickax Mountain.
And so right now there is the question. Now they're
(07:33):
not just threatening Israel. They've openly threatened, verbally and openly
threatened the East coast of the United States with two
thousands mile missiles that they can launch from these large
militarized oil tankers, that's oil tankers that have been converted
(07:54):
to have missile launchers and all sorts of other military means.
They can put them into the middle of the ocean
and they can launch. They've also threatened all the major
capitals of Europe. And the thing that they threatened most
about was the reimposition of what they call snapback sanctions,
(08:20):
that is sanctions that since they're no longer complying with
the protocols of the of the JCPO Way, which is
the disengagement in the nuclearization treaty that was signed more
than ten years ago under Obama. In those these extraordinary
(08:45):
sanctions where they can't use banks, they can't trade, et cetera,
et cetera. And they said, if those go back in
they will they will threaten these cities that the US
city and your European capitals. Those snapback sanctions, despite the
(09:05):
efforts of China and Russia, went back in yesterday. So yeah,
we're heading to trouble.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Sounds like it based on your comments, it sounds to
me like they have or can access the sixty percent
of riched uranium. So it's not beneath billions of tons
of rubble that we bomb that they can dig it out,
and that suggests also that they still have enrichment capabilities.
Is that the case, sir.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
No, they have the ATU and they have some enrichment capabilities,
but it's beyond that. Now they need the metallurgy. They
need to just turn They need to turn this stuff in.
It's all in a single, single highly reinforced steel blue canister,
(09:56):
especially devised, and it it was under some rubble. It's
been retrieved from that rubble, and you can discover a
single molecule with a Geiger counter, as we all know
some television. So the point is that there are satellites,
(10:21):
and there are your radiation sniffing airplanes, and the Israeli massade,
which is everywhere except this hotel room in which I'm
in and they are right. They are still very active
(10:42):
in Iran, and there have many, many, many more tricks
up their sleeves. And what are they trying to do.
They're simply trying to stop a nuclear war. And so
any minutes, the next the next phase of the war
is going to stop. And I can tell you with
(11:05):
a certainty that the lion does not sleep tonight.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
I have to agree with you, not being an expert
on Iran or Israel, but that certainly has been demonstrated
Israel's willingness to go after them, and not the first
strike on Israel or on Iran by Israel. There's been
other efforts in the past to go after the nuclear
program sir I can only kind of question mark as
we part company today in preparation tomorrow night seven pm
and power Youoamerica dot org loggin from home that with
(11:31):
NATO being threatened as well, I suppose you could have
a joint operation with the United States and Israel. You
think NATO will be involved in all in any military
operation against Iran.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
I'm afraid to inform you and your audience that NATO
is worthless.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
So we all knew.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
NATO has not really cooperated and right now. The nations
of NATO are financing the the Russian Ukrainian war that
they claimed that they once stopped because they're the one
buying the oil. And one of the major problems with
NATO is the largest military European member of NATO is
(12:16):
a country called Turkey. Turkey is aligned with Russia and
Iran and hates Israel, and so Turkey is really a problem.
I know that the President of Turkey was in the
White House and Trump was making nice to him, but
(12:39):
the fact is Turkey cannot be trusted. Turkey wants to
reestablish the Ottoman Empire, which fell after four hundred and
seventy years, that fell after World War One, and so
I think NATO is all talk and it won't really
do anything. The real muscle in NATO is just one
(13:04):
of its members, in that member of the United States
of America.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
