Speaker 1 (00:00):
My pappy said, son, you're gonna drive me to drinking
if you don't stop driving out hot rod.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Lincoln's rocking on the ready, pretty easy down the road
I go.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Just keep chucking.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Good afternoon, and welcome to the car show on fifty
five KRC. I am Dane Donovan from Donovan's Auto and
Tire Center taking your car questions. The number to call
five one three seven four nine fifty five hundred. That
number gain five one three seven four nine fifty five hundred.
Uh we I was There was a show last week,
so I was not here, but I want you to

(00:41):
know that I am here. I'm in studio, this is live.
I'm here love to help you out. The number to
call five one three seven nine fifty five hundred. That
number again, five one three seven four nine fifty five hundred.
Are had a what a busy week. It's been a
busy day. I don't want to bore you with my

(01:01):
day already, but already baseball is in full swing right.
So our Thursday started with the Reds. My son, my
youngest son, Declan, had the opportunity to be in the
opening day parade through the Dragonfly Foundation, which is a
great foundation and uh, they've really helped us out. As

(01:23):
many of you may know. You know, he was diagnosed
with cancer at two and a half, doing well in remission,
living his best life, and so we had that let
me let me step back just a moment. So Wednesday,
we bought lunch for all of our employees, uh for
Cancer Free Kids. So one hundred percent of all proceeds

(01:45):
on Wednesday, And they do this every year on Wednesday
for Jersey Mikes. So anything that you bought at Jersey
Mics on Wednesday went one to Cancer Free Kids. And
it's a local, uh local you know group that are
a very very good friend, dear friend of ours is

(02:06):
runs it and Cancer Free Kids. I can't thank them
enough for what they do. And they they almost raised
I think I think it was four don't quote me
on this, but I think it was four hundred and
eighty nine thousand dollars is what they raised in one
day for Cancer Free Kids. And again, we can't thank

(02:27):
them enough for what they've done for us and our
family and all the other families in the Cincinnati area
with kids that are going through cancer. It's it's something
that stinks, and pediatric cancer is severely underfunded and and
that's what this is about. So started that on Wednesday.

(02:50):
Thursday was an opening day and he got to be
in the Dragonfly Foundations parade or whatnot, in a in
a tractor and uh we started it literally at Findlay
Market and probably about a block from there. The tractor
that was pulling these kids. They're in barrels, like fifty
five gallon drum barrels that were cut up and and

(03:14):
darn if we didn't get a block down the road
and the tractor broke down. So Opening day parade, I
was there, but I was pushing it. So if you
saw me, I was I was pushing the uh, the kids.
And but it turned out to be a great day.
I mean, we had great weather and unfortunately the Reds
didn't win. But hey, maybe it's maybe, you know, new Year.

(03:37):
Let's just be optimistic and hope that it's gonna be
a great year. But I'm just thinking, like, man, you know,
I don't know anything. My son, my oldest, was like, Dad,
why don't you fix it? I said, son, I know
everything about cars, I don't know anything about tractors. I
mean they're somewhat common, there's somewhat common, but here the
belt broke for the transmission, and there wasn't anything that

(03:59):
we could do. But it was funny. My stomachs just like, Dad,
fix it. I'm like. I was like, well, we're in
the middle of a parade and I don't know anything
about tractors. So it's just funny. How that that that
that all pans out? So again the number to call
five one, three, seven, four nine, fifty five hundred. Again
the number seven. I'm sorry, five one, three seven. Jesus,
I'm sorry. I'm trying to multitask and I can't do it.

(04:22):
Four seven, five four. Anyways, all right, let's go to
the phones. Uh we have Bill. Hey, Bill, welcome to
the car show. I can help.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
Oh yeah, yeah, I'm good to have you back live again.
It's great.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Oh yeah, I'm just I'll tell you what I'm I'm
I got up at four thirty. I've been running like
ragged so barely made it here all the time, and
forgot my headphones again, so running as usually. How can
I help you?

Speaker 4 (04:50):
I got a battery issue on the twenty fifteen Morano.
It's ten years old, no problems until l last year.
I had to put in all dodinator as well as
a new battery. Got it from autos Zone, if I
can say, then and it seems to be working okay
for a while, and then if it sits over the weekend,

(05:12):
the battery is totally drained. And it's never happened before.
I never had, you know, something draining the battery in
the car. And I tried to charge it yesterday and
it will not take a charge. It just recondition, it says, recondition.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
I don't.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
I don't know if there's a problem with batteries out
there now that are poorly made or I don't. I
don't get it now.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
I mean so probably, yes, you probably do have some
type of electrical drawl. They're very sometimes they can be
very hard to find. Mm and uh, Well, first and foremost,
do you have anything plugged in the car? A camera
that some a lot of people have, like cameras that
they're video and while they're driving, or anything in cigarette

(06:00):
or anything like that. Is there anything plugged into the
vehicle when it's off.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
No, No, nothing at all, just like when I got it,
Which is strange that it's happening now after ten years.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Yeah, I mean it happens, doesn't happen too often, but
it can't happen. Let me ask you something. You said
you bought the battery last year.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
I bought it. What is this? I think I bought
it in the beginning of the air in January and
then returned it on the second one. The second one
did the same thing, and now the third one it
won't It won't even take a charge. I mean, it
won't totally dead. So you have a pretty won't even
take a charge.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Yeah, most likely have a pre I mean it could
be a battery issue, but most likely you probably have
a pretty good electrical drawl. So typically what we do,
it's probably not going to be anything that you can do,
but you need to get it to a repair shop
and they need to do a draw test, right, So
electrical drawl test to find out when the car is off.

(07:03):
And sometimes, though to a lot of people think, sometimes
it takes I mean a lot of these cars. I
know you said it's ten years old, but sometimes these
modules and some of these computers take a while to
finally go to sleep and shut down. And let me
ask you something. Do you have a physical key that
you have to put in to start the car? Or

(07:23):
is it a push button start.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
It's a push button. I got the key to get
into the door, but it's a push button start.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Okay, I know this is the key. I mean, I
know this is a silly question. But do you keep
the key in the car?

Speaker 4 (07:40):
No? No, no, no no. It actually slips into the remote
control thing what's called.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Yeah. So okay, so you slide it in and then
hit the push button. Right, okay, all right.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
Well, I mean I just I just sit in the
car and then then push the button. The key is
like a backup to get into it with the battery failed.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
All right. So sometimes a lot of these newer cars,
you know, they they they have you know, if you
keep the key, a lot of people will keep the
key in the vehicle and then you know, they'll park
it in their garage, leave the key in there, shut
the garage door, right go, And what it'll do is
it'll keep the basically the car awake because it senses
the key, so you can start it right.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Yeah, I can see that, which I talked.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
About that Okay, all right, that's fine. So obviously if
you've for placed what you said, three batteries since January
of last year, no this year, oh, Wow, Okay, yes,
you've got You've got a massive draw So typically what would.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
The battery not not take a charge of being brand
new off the shelf.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
So most likely what will happen is it probably has
what's called what we call a bad cell. So there's
one of the cells of the batteries is just dead
and just that's why it won't take a charge because
it's been wiped out. So something is drawing that thing
down so bad that it most likely it has a
bad sell on that battery. I mean we would be
able to test for that. I mean you wouldn't, but

(09:07):
I mean we can test for that to find out
if it does have a bad cell. I mean our
battery testers will say, hey, bad sell, but you've got
So what you need to do. Your next step is
to get it to a repair shop, either me, wherever
you're at, get it to a repair shop and you
just tell them like, hey, listen, I'm having electrical issues.
I need a electrical draw test. Don't have don't just

(09:30):
say oh I need my battery tested. No, I want
an electrical draw test. I need that done. So what
they'll do the battery lights never on correct, battery light
on under dash. Okay, so no, so most likely this
isn't always the case, but most likely if the battery

(09:50):
lights on, and a lot of people think, oh, battery
lights on, I need a battery. No, If the battery
lights on, the alternator is not charging the battery. So
that's kind of a a big misconception. But it doesn't
always happen. I mean, sometimes the altnator's not charging, it
doesn't kick the light on. So you want to make
sure that they test the alternator. Sounds like you're probably
gonna need a battery, but what they need to do

(10:11):
it's an electrical drawl test to try to find out
what's drawing that down. Now, the simplest thing that you
can do is in what we do, let the car
go to sleep, which sometimes can take up to thirty minutes,
and then you just basically start pulling fuses and once
that drawl goes away, right, you're like, Okay, it's all

(10:33):
in this system, right, could be you know, it could
be a you know, a glove box light or a
dome light, or you know a module that's just bad.
So that's what needs to happen next. So if you've
put three batteries in that thing since January and if
it sits a couple of days, it's out. Something's drawn
that battery down pretty good. So and a lot of
these newer cars too, with the blue tooth and the

(10:55):
computers and the TVs and and all that stuff, one
of those things could just be shorted out. So you
need to do you need to have an electrical draw
test done, and you know, I'd be more happy to
do that for you if you'd like, or take it
to your mechanic, but make sure don't just go in
there and say, oh, I need my battery tested and
they'll say, oh, it's fine and you walk out the door. No,
you need to have the battery tested, the alternator tested,

(11:17):
and then what's called an electrical drawl test to find
out what's drawing that battery down.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
Okay, okay, now I did put in a new alternator,
not a rebuilt one, so I'd be surprised if the
alternator is bad because it seems to be fine. Yeah
it surges up.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Yeah, so no, it's not an alterinator. It's not, you know,
like I shouldn't say it's not. It can be. But
typically you'll have a battery light that pops on if
it's the alternator issue. But if your car sits for
two days and it's dead, it has nothing to do
with the alternat The altnator's job is just to charge
the battery while the car is running. So if it's
sitting and not running and the battery is dead, that's

(12:00):
it's not the alternator's job. It's just to charge the
battery when the car's running. So you've got some type
of electrical drawls that so that's that's what needs to happen.
That's what you need to have done.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
All right, super I appreciate the tip.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
All right, you're welcome. You have a great day. All right,
Taking your phone calls and I'm gonna call five one
three seven four nine fifty five hundred. That number gin
five one three seven four nine fifty five hundred coming up.

Talk station.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Taking your car questions. The number to call five one
three seven nine fifty five hundred. That number gain five
to one, three seven nine fifty five one hundred. Again,
I'm Dane Donovan from Donovan's Auto entire Center. And uh,
like I said, on Thursday when we had opening day,
we did a little grill out. We get uh you know,
the Reds cookies and some cracker jacks and grilled out

(13:34):
for the customers and it was a great hit. And
everybody can appreciate a free meal, right so and uh so, yeah,
it was. It was. It was a good day. And
I just on break was talking to mister boss Man
Tony Bender, and uh. He wanted to make sure I
was supposed to meet up with him at iHeart on

(13:56):
on Thursday and I wasn't able to make it. He
did wanted to make sure I was okay, because he
says he's sent me five text messages and I have
not answered them. But I'm gonna find out. I don't
know what the phone, what kind of phone he has,
but anyways, take your phone calls and never call it
five one, three, seven, nine fifty five. Let's go back
to the phones we have. Loretta, Hi, Loretta, how are you?

Speaker 7 (14:17):
I'm pretty good? Thanks for taking my.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Call, absolutely, thanks for calling. How can I help?

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Yah?

Speaker 7 (14:24):
I have two vehicles and they both have problems. Oh oh,
I have a Yeah, I have a twoenty and thirteen
Kia Optima.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
Uh huh.

Speaker 7 (14:33):
And for some reason, it feels really hot inside of
the car. The heat's not on, but it just hot.
It's just really warm.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
Okay, what We'll call that? Sure? So let me ask
you something. Is I know this this is gonna sound silly,
but I'm just trying to keep it basic. Is the
temperature dial on heat? Is it digital or is it

(15:00):
a knob?

Speaker 7 (15:02):
It's a knob. But yeah, it's just turned on the heat.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Okay. So it's it's turned on to the heat, but
it's not physically on right right, Okay, So what will
typically happen is you have what's called a cabin air filter. Right.
This is a filter that filters the air that you
breathe in the car. Okay. They are typically located right

(15:25):
below what's called the wiper call, like where the wipers are, right,
the little black piece that runs right below the wipers, okay,
And they're designed to funnel air into the vehicle, and
so you could breathe fresh air. And what will happen
a lot of times is that air even though that
even though you don't have the air on physically, what
will happen is air will flow through that filter through

(15:47):
the blower motor in that blower motor. Dependent upon how
fast you're going, a lot of times that blower motor
will kind of spin even though it's not on because
air is flowing through. It's kind of like a fan, right,
you know, if you if you had a little if
you had a box. Yeah, it's not the heat per se,
it's just sucking air in. But you've got it turned

(16:09):
on heat. So it'd be like it'd be like if
you had a little box box fan in your window
right in the house and cold air is it's you know,
it's cold outside and the air is just whipping through
that fan. I mean, that fan's gonna move a little
bit right, and so you're gonna make it it feels
like it's cold in here. So if maybe, if you

(16:30):
maybe if you turn that dial to the middle of
you know, middle of it, like right between hot and cold,
or turn it to cold. Most likely again, that air
is just flowing through the filter like it's supposed to
and just kicking that not necessarily kicking it on, but
blowing that blow or just a little bit to where
it's like, oh, I can feel heat coming out. So
because you have what's you have what's called a blend

(16:51):
door motor, So there's a motor that operates the hot
and the cold. And so if if the knob is
physically turned to hot, even though the air's not on,
it's that blower motors most likely just kind of still spinning.
So that's why you're feeling a little bit, most likely
a little bit of heat.

Speaker 7 (17:07):
Oh okay, I'll try that, man, Okay, And the other car.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
I have an H three.

Speaker 7 (17:14):
Two thousand and six summer. Okay, I'm having problems with
the windshield wipers and the doors, the windows. It works
sometimes sometimes it doesn't. And I also have water coming
in it.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Oh okay, all right. So do you said the the
the wind or is it all the windows?

Speaker 7 (17:39):
Yeah? Okay, whenever the whenever everything shuts down, which is
all the windows and the windshow wipers.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Okay. And and you're getting water in it.

Speaker 7 (17:50):
Yes, And I'm getting water inside of the it's in
the front on both sides.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Okay. Does it have a sun roof? Yes, okay, so
prob with as far as like the wipers in the
windows not operating. When they don't operate, they don't operate together,
Like if the windows aren't working, the wipers aren't working.
Is that correct?

Speaker 4 (18:12):
No?

Speaker 1 (18:13):
No, okay.

Speaker 7 (18:14):
If one's working, everything's working. Okay, all right, one's not working.
Thing's not working, I got you.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
Okay, So probably so a lot of these a lot
of these vehicles will have what we call a body
control module. This is a module that controls the electronics
inside the vehicle. Okay, And most of the time, most
of your manufacturers will put these modules kind of in
the floor or in the what what we call a

(18:43):
kick panel, like where your feet would lay. So most
likely your your sunroof trains are probably clogged, and that
water that's supposed to be draining out through the sunroof
trains is probably backing into the vehicle. That's why you're
getting water in it, and that water is probably getting
into the body control module. So what I would recommend is,

(19:07):
I got a great guy, uh local here in Cincinnati.
He will fix your water leak. That's what we need
to address first. Let's get the water leak taken care of. First,
we need to get the sun roof drains draining correctly
and properly. Okay, I can give you his name and number,
but it's the it's the water doctor. So if you

(19:29):
go to Google, type in water doctor Cincinnati or whatnot
water doctor, his name's Jerry.

Speaker 7 (19:34):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Okay, he does a great job.

Speaker 7 (19:36):
That's another thing I was worried about. I didn't know
what you wanted to get fixed.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
First.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
I would get the water. Let's get the water leak
addressed first, simply because it can do a lot more.
Water can do a lot of damage to a vehicle.
So we want to correct that and get that fixed first.
So water doctor. And again, the gentleman that runs the play,
that owns it is Jerry. He has he has done
a tremendous amount of work for me. He's very loyal,

(20:02):
trustworthy guy. I can assure you that he's gonna take
care of you. You call him and have him fix
the water leak, fix or let's have him do that first, Okay,
And and hopefully I'm not saying this is gonna happen,
but hopefully if we get the water problem addressed, you
may or may not have him more problems with the

(20:24):
body control module or there's some type something's getting wet,
so I will let's we wanna we want to eliminate
that because let's just say, if you brought the car
to me and I'm like, hey, Loretta, it's it needs
a bad it's got a bad body control module, it's
gonna be and they're not cheap, you know, I'm just
this is just an example. Hey, it's gonna be one
thousand dollars, right, and you're like, okay, well go ahead,

(20:46):
let's fix it. Well, if the water is still getting
in the car, then in theory, I haven't done my
job because I've wasted your money, right, because I didn't
really I fixed the the wipers in the window problem,
but I didn't fix the water problem. And the water
is really the bigger problem. We need to start there,
We need, you know, just so we get that taken

(21:08):
care of. And if the water, if if the windows
and the wipers are still acting up, then we fix that.
But I don't want to see you fix the wipers
in the wall and the windows and not fix the
real root of the problem. So that's that's how I
would address it. And again, Jerriet water doctor. He's gonna
fix it at a great price, he's uh, and by

(21:31):
you know, I'm not saying cheap. I'm just saying, yeah,
you know, he's gonna fix it, right, and he and
he offers a great guarantee too, right, But we want
to get that addressed first.

Speaker 7 (21:41):
So that and then I just had to make I
just have to make sure when I make my appointment
it is not raining in that day.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Well, typically so what he'll do, yeah, so typically he
is mobile. But typically what he'll do is if you
call him and say, Jerry, I want you to fix
my water leak, He's gonna tell you, okay, call Donovan's
and drop it off at one of their locations. He'll
set up the appointment. Drop it off at one of
the dominants' locations, he'll bring it to my You bring
the car to me, he'll fix it. And if for

(22:12):
any reason, why if he can't fix it a lot
he does have a shop, but ninety nine point nine
percent of the time he can fix it on site.
And I'm telling you it's okay.

Speaker 7 (22:24):
So he's gonna fix it at your shop.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Yes, ma'am, there or wherever, whatever the nearest location. You
call him, whatever the nearest location is. If you're like, hey,
I'm in Fairfield and I'm going to take it to
this dealership or whatever. But typically he'll fix it at
a repair shop. He won't necessarily fix it at your
in your driveway, so just so you know, but it
doesn't have to necessarily come to me. It can go

(22:48):
to you know, you call him and set that up
and he'll take care of you. Okay, let's all right,
Thank you so much. You're welcome. You have a great weekend.
By bye. You know, that's the thing about cars nowadays
is you know they're and I've said it one hundred
times on this show. But you know, these cars are there,
they're computers on wheels, and there are so many computers

(23:11):
or what we call I would say, I you know,
in the automotive world we say modules, which is, you know,
a computer, and I mean they have I mean some
cars can have up to ten, fifteen to twenty thirty
different modules, right one to operate the windows one to
I mean even your Windows switch, if you've got a
newer car today, even your Windows switch, just your switch

(23:33):
to roll the windows down is considered a module because
it has to be programmed and so on and so forth.
So you know, but they have so many modules, and
they only have little They only have a certain amount
of places that they can put them. So most manufacturers,
manufacturers will put them in the floors of the car.
And if you have a sun roof or a panoramic sunroof,

(23:56):
you're you are at the highest risk of water and
true water getting in there and causing issues and problems. Right,
I mean, we just you know, I just did ten
thousand dollars to Evolvo that was absolutely panoramic sunroof. It
was absolutely water logged, and pretty much every computer wire

(24:16):
module in the floor was ruined. We were able to
get it back up and running. But that's important. If
you've got a sun roof or any type of water intrusion,
do not take that lightly. You know, if you leave
window down one night, okay, but if you get in
your car and there's you can hear it squashing around
or standing water in your vehicle, you need to get
that addressed immediately because it's going to cause major electrical

(24:41):
issues if you don't. So and again got a great
guy that does it, water doctor, you know. And so
it's not something that you should take lightly. Not nowadays.
I mean, you know, if it was an older vehicle
in the eighties, okay, but now today's cars, you cannot
do it. You get any type of in you know.

(25:01):
I had a customer that had a Now this is
an extreme situation, but he had a Bentley convertible. Left
the top down, it rained, ruined the gas door so
the guy couldn't put gas in his vehicle because the
gas door switch got wet. Cost him, you know, almost
one thousand dollars. Now, again, it was a Bentley. I

(25:24):

I just want to make sure I cover all my

I can. So all right, let's go back to the
phones we've got. We have Greg. Hey, Greg, welcome to

(26:53):
the car show. How can I help? Uh?

Speaker 3 (26:55):
Yeah, Hi, I have a two thousand and seven Saturday
ion and just within the last week. The radio on
AM I won't work when you're driving or when the
car's on. It's all static, But when the engine's off
it comes in fine. Is there like a short somewhere.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
Or yeah, so most likely there's some there's probably a
some type of ground issue that could be causing it.
When the car's running, there's probably a ground issue. I
mean it could be the radio itself. I mean, I'll
be honest with you. I mean Saturn I on. I mean,
there's not too many of those bad boys around. How
long have you had it?

Speaker 3 (27:42):
I got with the ninety one thousand, and I got
two hundred seventy thousand on.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
Its how many.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
I got it when I had ninety one thousand miles
on it and now I got two hundred and seventy
thousand on it.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
To seventy yep Soul pizza.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
I've replaced the clutch, yet I still got the I
guess the original clutch in it.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
You gotta be kid. Yeah, I wouldn't have gone out
at ninety I don't think with two hundred and seventy
thousand on an aisle, that's that's impressive.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
Yeah, I wouldn't. I wouldn't never thought, you know, General
Motors Force Owner would last this long. But you know,
I'm very like change my ol every three thousand miles
and keep up with the floid changes and all that.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
So no, you know, I talk about that all the
time on the show. It's just keeping up on the
It doesn't have to be you know, everything doesn't have
to be top notch, but you know, just the basics, right,
changing the oil, checking the tires. You know, air pressure
and fluid changes and filters and man, these things can
last that long. So that's that's that is Well, you're

(28:47):
sounds like you're awesome on a clutch too, because two
hundred and seventy thousand miles. Wow, So do you do
a lot of highway or.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
It's mostly uh city driving?

Speaker 1 (28:59):
Okay, yeah, but I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
Light on it.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
Yeah, I'll get back to your question because, like I said,
I could be long winded. Yeah, there's most likely So
if the car, if the key is on and the
engine is not running, a m will come in just fine.
But if you start the car, there's an interference and
there's just kind of a constant buzzing or interference.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
Yeah, just static on any channel on AM. But they
still works fine, just AM. So most just started like
a week ago.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
Okay, So it could be a radio issue and uh
or there's some type of ground or so some of
these cars to have like oh, I forget the technical
name for him, but basically something that helps you know
with engine interference and calls and that that that static
and that noise. Because I have a a four truck,

(29:56):
an F one fifty and if the if if the
lights thanks on, I'm listening to AM their static, but
if I turn my lights off, I don't have any static,
So there's some type of interference there, so at night,
I just don't drive with my lights on. No, I'm
just uh no, but you've got some kind of interference,
but uh.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
I want a regular mechanic be able to solve that.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
Or yes, yes, but most likely you've got some type
of ground issue. You've probably got a ground strap or
something that's kind of corroded off or rotted off or whatnot,
and that's why you're getting that an interference. So but yeah, yes,
a mechanic would be able to determine that and figure
it out. I mean, I you know, can be pretty difficult.
Sometimes it could be something that's you know, pop open

(30:39):
the hood and oh that ground strap's rotted off or
crode it off. Could be something where there's there's a
radio issue. But yeah, most potanics will be able to
figure that out.

Speaker 3 (30:50):
All right, thank you, Hey, thanks for wait.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
All right, thank you. You have a great day. Yeah.
I would never encourage anybody not to drive with their
lights on. I was just teasing. So all right, let's
go back to the phones. We've got Dan. Hey, Dan,
welcome to the car. So how can I help?

Speaker 5 (31:05):
Hey Dan, I'm doing great man, Listen, I have a
twenty eleven Buick Lacrosse two point four leader, front wheel drive.
So the brake pedal is sticking when it gets form
inside of the car, and the brake light stays on.
I have to put my left foot under it and
lift it off after I spring and I tried, I

(31:25):
tried replaced in the brake switch and it didn't do
it for a while and then it started doing it again.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
Oh wow, I mean I have seen this. Okay, so
you have to so in order to get the brake
light stays on in order for I mean, do you
not like, is it just a brake light that's coming
on itself or do you physically or does it like
the car just at a traffic light, just not move.

Speaker 5 (31:56):
It will move, but you can tell that the pedals
depressed and you have to and you have to lift
up up with your other foot underneath the brake pedal
to get it to relate. It only does it after
only does it after it's warmed up, after about maybe
thirty miles of driving, steady driving, and.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
It starts up. So okay.

Speaker 5 (32:19):
There's a rod that goes in there that that the
slot slides into on the brake switch. And if someone
said that that thing can get even though it's metal,
it can get flatted and once the tubing around it.
I'm going to try that, But I just maybe you
had an idea.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
So what type of So I have seen this multiple
times in every time that we've had the issue. It
was actually the break, the actual the switch itself. Now,
I know you said you you've you've done that. Did
you put like a factory like ac ac delco on

(32:59):
or did you put an aftermarket went on?

Speaker 5 (33:02):
I went to get one at the Cadillacs or and rentcovery. Yeah,
so it's it was.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
A okay, all right, okay, all right, good, good for you.
I always just want to rule that out because sometimes listen,
I mean not you know, there's options. Sometimes we don't
have the option of putting a factory one in right,
the only option is to do aftermarket. But if if
we can eliminate that out of the equation, as far
as I think, I think our next step would be

(33:33):
after thirty minutes we get you know, we probably gonna
need to get it up in the air and find
out are all four wheels locked up? What about what
about break fluid? Have you had the break fluid flush
or anything like that?

Speaker 5 (33:47):
Yes, I do that myself, okay, every year and it's clean.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
Okay. So yeah, so so it's all right. What about
what about if the car, say, if the car was
to run, just let's just say you just started in
your parking lot or i'm sorry, started in your driveway, right,
you just start the car, and if it ran for

(34:15):
thirty minutes, would that would it? Would it have the
same problem?

Speaker 5 (34:19):
No, because I tried that.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
Okay, So running in the driveway doesn't do it. It's
just when you're driving is when you notice it.

Speaker 5 (34:29):
Yes, after depressing the brake, probably about I don't know,
five hundred times, four hundred times something maybe.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Okay, all right, so here's what I hear. So typically,
you know you've got what's called a break booster. It
runs off of it runs off a vacuum from the engine. Now,
I don't think your breke booster is bad. It could be,
but typically I would probably see your next step is
to replace. There's a a lot of these vehicles. We'll

(34:57):
have a a you know, obviously a rubber hose that
runs from the break booster to the intake, which is
again sending the vacuum or you know, creating the vacuum.
A lot of times these these hoses will have a
check valve in them, and that check valve could be
potentially bad and sticking. So the more you're sitting there

(35:20):
hitting the brake pedal and then that all of a sudden,
that check valve is probably sticking. Could be again, it
could be a break booster, but it sounds to me
like you're having a potentially a vacuum issue I before.
I mean, a break booster is expensive and it's a
lot of time and a lot of labor. Still could
be the booster, but what I would do the next
step is to replace that rubber hose that runs from

(35:41):
the break booster to the intake. Okay, find out if
there's you know, every year making model is gonna be
a bit different. But we need to find out if
there's a check valve in that line. I have seen it.
That's where I would go next. If there's absolutely no

(36:01):
check valve in there, then we're dealing with a vacuum issue,
which is most likely the break booster itself. But the
line is going to be a lot cheaper than the booster.

Speaker 5 (36:13):
Yeah, that's that's going to be a deal breaker for
the car.

Speaker 1 (36:16):
Yeah, so check that I'd order that vacuum line. You
can call the dealer just say hey, I need the
line that runs from the break booster to the intake,
which creates again the vacuum for the booster. I would
start there first because it's going to be cheap something
that you can do, and if you still have the problem,
the most likely I think the only other option that

(36:37):
we have is the booster itself.

Speaker 5 (36:40):
Yeah, or possibly the brake pedal that sweat self. I'm
thinking there's a plastic insert in that where growth pivots
inside of that shaft where on the brake pedal. Yeah,
I'm thinking that that plastic thing maybe deteriorated. I actually
tried to spray m W D forty in there just
to do anything.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
So okay, absolutely, I mean yeah, I mean, like I said,
we we had a car. It was a the gentleman
just called it was a Saturn eye. It wasn't an iron.
It was a Saturn like smaller suv. We put I
don't know, I can't tell you how many brakes, how

(37:19):
many how many times we had to put brakes on
this car, and so this isn't right right, I mean,
this car is coming in. Brakes were locked up what's
going on? And it ended up being a dagon brake
light switch, which again you hit on. But if you
put an ac delco one on it, I'm thinking, and again,
if it if you're hitting the brake, if it it

(37:40):
just sits there and runs and you don't have any
brake issues, and I'm I'm leaning towards maybe a break
vacuum issue, and maybe there's that that check valve in
there is by you, you know, constantly hitting the brake
and you're pumping you know that, you know that check valve. Again,
it is constantly moving and if then it eventually just
after time it just sticks and not creating enough, I

(38:02):
would start there.

Speaker 5 (38:04):
Okay, all right, Dane, I'm gonna call back.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
And give a report, give me an update, absolutely, because
you know what, you know, the one thing about my
job that I love but hate is you know, I
love that there's never a dull moment in the sense
that you know, you can't sit there and go, well,
I know everything about cars because they're constantly evolving, they're
constantly changing, and every time I sit there and go, well,

(38:28):
I've seen it all, you can't say that because something
comes in. It's like so you know, it's you're always
You're always evolving, you're always changing, you're always learning, and
that's what I like about this. So yeah, absolutely call
me back. I'd love to hear give me an update. Yep, yes,
all right, thank you, huh bye bye, all right again

(38:50):
taking your phone calls. I'm gonna do the best I
possibly can to get to everybody. But coming up. You

Speaker 1 (39:33):
Taking your car questions is the number to call five,
one thirty seven four nine fifty five one hundred. Let's
get back to the phones. We are running out of time.
Let's go to Norman. Hey, Norman, welcome to the car show.
How can I help this?

Speaker 2 (39:45):
Norman?

Speaker 1 (39:46):
Yeah, yeah, how can I helpen?

Speaker 2 (39:49):
I have a two six twenty sixteen the mpower. I
bought it new for my life and have fifteen thousand
miles hearing this noise. It sounds like it sounds like
a tower. Hour around Chevrolet garage and they said it

(40:11):
was one of the wheelbarings in the rear. They fixed
it there, supposedly fixed it, and uh, and it's kept
making this noise. So I took it to a garage
and the guy kept my car for three weeks and uh,
they said it was an intermediate wheelbarry. I never heard

(40:34):
of such thing. And they kept it for three weeks,
said they couldn't get the parts, and finally they said,
well we got it fixed. They got the parts. I
still got the same noise I had all along. And
at Chevrolet Grodge they told me this them power. It's
kind of like a Camaro or a Firebird or something

(40:57):
like that. But I'm not convince that's the problem. And
like I said, I spent five hundred dollars. They kept
it for three weeks and so I don't know. I
still hear the noise. It's like like you got a
wheel out of ballacer out around. So I'm wondering what

(41:20):
the problem is. If you can tell to help me outen.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
Well, can you can you gi me a fair? Are
you able to turn the radio down in the background?
Yeah right, I'm just getting a lot of back seed.
I'm sorry, now, yeah, thank you. So here here's the
thing about noises. Yes you could, you said, they told

(41:45):
you what intermediate bearing.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
Intermediate wheel bearing, and it's somewhere in the front end.
And it took. It took like I took the car
and dropped it off, and it took like three weeks.
And they kept telling me that I guess they've getten
their parts from Google or whoever. And they kept telling
me that for this car they didn't have the parts.

(42:09):
I even called Chevrolet Garage and they said they were
running out these parts. And so finally they got it.
Supposed they got it fixed. But I'm still hearing the
same noise.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
Okay, So I mean, so when do you when do you? Yeah?
So when do you hear the noise? Do you hear
it at higher speeds? Low speeds? Low? You know how
fast you have to be before you hear the noise.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
Well, I think it's at low speed.

Speaker 1 (42:35):
You hear it at low speeds. Okay, all right, So typically.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
It's a different pavement, Like they get one street blacktop
and just recently blacktop, and I can hear it there,
you know, and it's just different.

Speaker 1 (42:55):
So okay, so here's what we need to do. So
most likely you either have another bad wheel bearing. I
mean you've got four, right, so either you have another one,
another bad wheel bear bearing. You're gonna hear it at
higher speeds, you know, thirty forty fifty miles an hour.

(43:17):
If you're having a noise at low speeds, most likely
it is a result of the tires themselves being either
what we call feather or cut correct. How old are
the tires?

Speaker 2 (43:33):
Well, I've only got twenty two thousand miles on the
car because I had another vehicle, all right, kept the
other car garaged of the newer car.

Speaker 1 (43:44):
Okay, well here, well, here's what I'm going to tell
you to do. If you can, If you can, Norman,
I as far as noises go. You know, it sounds
like we either deal with a tire or a bearing issue.
But if you could, I mean, you're more than welcome
to bring it to one of my locations. I will

(44:06):
drive it for you. I need to listen to it,
and I think that's that's probably going to be our
next step. I understand that they had it for three weeks.
I don't need it for three weeks. You and I
can go for a drive. I'd love to help you
out and just try to get that that noise. Try
to figure it out, you know, figure it out, so listen.

(44:29):
I appreciate everybody calling today. I apologize that I did
not get to Gary and Brian. Please call me back
next week. I'll be back here to answer all your
car questions. Everybody enjoy their enjoy their week, and I'll
be back again next Saturday to answer all your car questions.
