Speaker 1 (00:08):
With a four bart car when a duel look sauty.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Good afternoon, and welcome to the car show on fifty
five KRC. I'm Dane Donovan from Donovan's Auto entire Center
and taking your car questions. The number to call five
one three seven fifty five hundred. That number again, five
to one, three seven four nine fifty five hundred. It's
a little little brisk, little chili Saturday.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Uh, at least morning it was.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
And but uh, yeah, got one baseball game down and
we have five more.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
To go this weekend. And uh it's a busy weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
So my two older boys are in uh, they're both
in tournaments, and uh, we have four games today to tomorrow. Uh,
my son and I are supposed to play golf as well,
and then we have a birthday party and a dinner tonight.
So somehow we're gonna get it all done. But here
I'm taking your car questions again. Then number to call

(01:10):
five one three seven nine fifty five hundred. At least
the sun is out. At least it's not raining. At
least the sun's out. You can get out and maybe
run or you know again, work on that car, maybe
check the air pressure, check your oil level, make sure
it's good to go.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Uh, you know, we talk about that all the time
on the show.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
But uh yeah, so hopefully the weather's finally turned around.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
It's it's uh.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
The you know, the Ohio River is finally you know,
back in its banks and the flooding's.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Down, and uh.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
There's probably some of you that are dealing with a
little bit of you know, maybe water in the car.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
And we've talked about that.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
I've got a great friend of mine that has a
business that's that's what he does, is fix water leaks
on cars. But for the past couple of it's been
a great weather to be a duck.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Right.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
So but again I'm here to take all of your
car questions. The number call five one, three, seven, four,
nine fifty five hundred. It was, uh, man, I tell
you what it was. January February was a little touch
and go. It was a little little soft on business.
And again that's that's always typical. You know, we get

(02:22):
through the holidays, nobody's traveling, and you know you're getting
those credit card statements right from Christmas.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
You're like, you know, I don't know if I want
to fix my car right now.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
So it's it's it's usual, right, but man, it's really
starting to pick up. You know, we've got spring break.
You know a lot of people are in spring break.
My boys are going to be in spring break next week.
We're not traveling anywhere, but uh, you know, this is
the time that we need to discuss. We need to
start talking about thinking about getting the cars ready for

(02:57):
you know, spring break or your uh, your summer trip. Right.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Most of you.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Already have it in mind, are already planning to travel
this summer and get the car ready right now, you
need to get it ready now.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
It's now is the time we need to think about this.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Checking the tires, checking the brakes, make sure that you know,
oils changed, fluids are checked out. You know, these are
things that we have to do, and we need to
start thinking about it now because far too often, and
you know you've heard me say this before, we we
wait till the last minute, right we think about the car.
Oh shoot, you know, oh, we're going out of town
this Friday, will probably bring the car in and then

(03:39):
you don't get it in and you have, you know
a problem. So now it's the time to start thinking
about that. Most of us again are planning our summer
trip or already have it planned, right, So if you
have one planned, you need to think ahead and sit
there and decide. Okay, now it's time to think about
the car. Get it scheduled, get it in right meanwhile,

(04:02):
think about this right, So.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Let's just say you get it in next week or
two weeks from now. And you know you're you're.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Automotive repair shops says, hey, you're gonna need breaks real soon.
You're probably gonna need them in about a month or two. Right,
then you can plan for that, right, so you're not
cramming in a break job right before vacation. And now
money's kind of tight because you know you had to
fix the car before you could travel and get out
of town.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Right, So now's the time to start thinking about that stuff.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
So all right again, then I'm gonna call a five one, three, seven,
fifty five hundred.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Let's go to the phone. We have Jenny. Hey, Jenny,
welcome to the car show. How can I help?

Speaker 4 (04:39):
Well, my horn isn't working on my B three thousand,
two thousand and two Mazda. And I've checked all the fuses,
all the relays, and I was wondering when I was
looking at the man fuel. It's anti theft has something

(05:04):
to do possibly with the horn, because that has to
sound when your car's getting broken into. So if possible
there's a relay for the anti theft, that might be
the cause of the horn not working.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
I highly doubt it. So let me ask you something.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
So is your horn do you have a horn pad
right in the center or do you have a button
on each side of the steering.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Wheel two thousand and two has the pad right.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
In the center.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Okay, And so you have no low tone, no low
tone or high tone, just nothing, no nothing, Okay. Are
there any lights on in the dishes? Like is there
an air bake light on or anything?

Speaker 5 (06:00):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (06:00):
I don't know. I didn't know that it had something
to do with it.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
So, so your horn runs through what's called the clock spring. Okay,
it's and that's behind the the air bag.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
So you've got your horn, you've got your clock spring,
and then you have I'm sorry, you've got your horn,
your air bag, and then your clock spring, and that
runs that horn through that clock spring. So if the
airbag light is on, it's very possible that the clock
spring could be bad.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Now, if you're like day, know, the airbag light.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Is not on, then either the horn pad itself is
bad inside that that you know inside the yeah, correct,
or the horn itself is just it's just bad.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
I mean that that can happen.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
No, I don't think there's a relay or I mean
it could be it could be a relay, could be
a fused. But you said you've checked the fuses. No,
I do not think it's any I don't don't think
it has anything to do with the anti theft.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Okay, but check to see if check.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
To see if that airbag light is on. That's that's important.
If it is, then we probably have a bad clock spring.
If it's not, then either the horn pad itself is
bad or the horn is just bad.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Okay, great, that's something for me to check. I'll check
back with you after great.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Thank you so much, take care, thank you, bye bye. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
You know, every car has what's called a clock spring,
so most of our newer cars nowadays have electronics. Right,
You've got your your cruise control, your horn, your turn signals,
I mean everything kind of runs through that clock spring
and which allows you to turn the wheel all the
way to left all the way to the right and
still have contact right with So probably what's going on

(07:52):
is either the horn pad itself is is bad.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Or the horn So all right, let's go back to
the phones. We have Donnie. Hey, Donnie, welcome to the car.
So how can I help?

Speaker 6 (08:01):
Hi?

Speaker 1 (08:02):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Thanks for taking my call? Absolutely, thank you for calling.
How can I help?

Speaker 1 (08:07):
I have a rare no start situation in my seven
Honda Odyssey, Okay, and the way I resolve it is
I just have to pull the shift lever out of park,
push it back in the park starts right up. I
don't know for diagnosing whether it would be the shift
linkage or the neutral safety switch.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Okay, Uh does the vehicle have you will the vehicle?
So if you pull it out of park and put
it back in park, it'll start correct?

Speaker 6 (08:37):
Correct?

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Will it start in neutral? Oh?

Speaker 1 (08:42):
I never tried that.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
Okay, So if it.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Will start, you know, typically if your car will not start,
but it will start a neutral that's typically a neutral
safety switch, which would cause the car to allow you
to start it right. But I believe what's going on
is if you're if you're pulling it out of gear
put it back into gear, that that selector which shows
the car that the shifter is in park. You're most

(09:07):
likely that shifter itself needs to be replaced. Is it
a is it a column shift or is it a
it's in the Okay, it's in the dash, which typically
that's most of your odysseies are like that. So so
probably the shifter itself is bad. That the selector that
tells the car that it's in park. So what you're

(09:27):
doing is by taking it out and putting it back
in there, all of a sudden, it's making that contact
and it's probably so most likely it's going to need
that shifter suddenly shifter assembly replaced. Okay, but try to
see if it starts in neutral. I just I'm just
curious because it could have something new the neutral safety switch.

(09:49):
But again, if you if you're taking it out and
once you put it back into gear it starts, then
it's that that selector switch that's in the assembly. Now
a lot of times most people go, well, Dane, can
I just replace that switch? Most of the time, HAN
is not gonna sell just that switch. You're gonna have
to replace the entire assembly, which probably isn't too expensive.

(10:12):
I have you know, I don't know off the top
of my head what it would cost. But my concern though,
too is with it being an seven, it might not
be available.

Speaker 6 (10:22):
That's what I was afraid of.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
But my car has been very, very durable, and I
really would like to keep it going.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Yeah, they're great cars. Absolutely, I would fix it, hands down,
I'd fix it. So but that's that's what you have
going on, is that that assembly is probably bad. The
switch that's in the assembly is bad, so I'm gonna
have to replace that. All right, Well, thank you so much, sir,
very welcome, have a great day. All right again, I'm
taking your phone calls and I'm gonna call five on

(10:51):

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Again.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
I'm here every Saturday from one to two to answer
all of your car questions. And again, you know I've

Speaker 3 (12:30):
That's what I'm here for every Saturday. So again, thank
you so much for the.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Callers and the listeners and all of my customers and
employees for all that you guys do. I really do
appreciate it. So let's go back to the phones we have.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Jack. Hey, Jack, welcome to the car show. How can
I help name?

Speaker 5 (12:48):
It's always cool to be able to call your program.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
I appreciate it. I thank you for calling.

Speaker 5 (12:55):
I mean I can tell like your dad as well.
You guys, are you honestly want to help up? The
working man keeps his car going absolutely, and you know,
like the newer cars, the dealerships, they didn't want us
to be able to work on our cars.

Speaker 9 (13:09):
The main reason, the main reason I called. And I'm
not bragging. I drive tootas I don't have no problems.
But uh, it was a guy last week they called in.
He had a Saturn and he had this.

Speaker 5 (13:23):
Car for quite a while and I believe he had
a couple of hundred thousand on it.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
It was a Saturn eye on or Saturn is an eye.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
On yeah, and he said, hey, recently i AM radio
started making noise. You know, he's trying to figure out
what it is. Well, this is my sheer luck that
I know what it is. And I've been dying to
call you all week. But I bought I bought a
used Corolla one time, and uh, I man not listening

(13:51):
to the Reds and listening to.

Speaker 6 (13:52):
Gary bird Bank.

Speaker 5 (13:53):
That was my thing when I was younger. And that Corolla,
no matter what, it ran great, it just AM I
was terrible. He's real staticky, right, And I could never
really listen to AM.

Speaker 6 (14:04):
It was horrible.

Speaker 5 (14:05):
So I went to the junk yard, went out throwing
those junyards on Kellig Avenue, and I got in the
new radio and I put the dash apart, I put
it all in. I was all excited and I turned
it on. It was the exact same thing. Well, it's
just so happened. About two months later, I was an
auto zone for something and they had plug wires on sale,

(14:26):
and they were real good ones, but they were discounted price.

Speaker 10 (14:29):
So I figured out my car run good, you know,
pop them off five minutes from the car, and I
put those new plug wires on there and just by chance.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
A day or two later, I went to check to
see if I could hear the red score, and my
hand was perfect. He needs plug wires.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
His cart might run great, and he might think everything's fine.

Speaker 5 (14:51):
But I'm telling you right now that Saturday needs plug wires.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Really, I'll buy them for him.

Speaker 5 (14:58):
I'll buy them like if that guys listening you get
old of me, you got my phone number, I'll be
plug wires just to hear him say, yes, it fixed
my radio.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Well, I you know, I have seen and heard a lot,
but I've never heard plug wires fixing AM radio. But
I'd love to. I don't you know. I'm not doubting you.
I've just never seen it, that's all.

Speaker 5 (15:23):
It blew my mind because I thought to myself, what
did I do recently? And it was still plug wires.
I still had the older ones playing in the back seat,
so I went ahead and just to see I put them.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Back on, and sure enough, the part ran perfectly.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
But they were making my.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
A m aesthetic interesting.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
So there you go, And that's all I got.

Speaker 6 (15:48):
And I swear I am so happy to be able
to do that. Like I said, he.

Speaker 5 (15:52):
Sounded like an older gentleman. He's on a fixed income
or whatnot. I'll buy his plug wires. And I would
love to hear him call back and say that's what
it was, because he's keeping that Saturn.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
That Saturn ain't going nowhere.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
No, the older Saturns were that's his cart. Yeah, the
older Saturns were there. They were almost tanks. I mean
you couldn't kill those things. I mean they smoked. They
towards the end of their life they would smoke and
burn some oil. But I mean they were still a
good car. You just don't hear Saturn much anymore, you know.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
I think I think General Motors got scared of the
monster that they created. I think they purposely got rid
of that brand because, Buddy.

Speaker 6 (16:35):
I tell you, I was in the car business.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
I worked for Joseph Toyota for many many years, and
those cars were just fine. Those cars were quality, and
those cars like you look at them now, there's no
rust on those cars. There's nothing to us.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
I know.

Speaker 6 (16:50):
You're that gentleman that called.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
I'm telling you, I hear his voice.

Speaker 5 (16:53):
That car is never going nowhere. He's gonna keep that
car to this of his life. And if he's listening,
you tell them call in. You get a hold of me,
and I'll thank for whatever. The plug wires are, all right, Jack,
I even go put him on for him. I just
to hear that AM radio work again would just.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Make my whole day.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
That's well, I appreciate that. And hopefully he is listening.
I hope he is, because there's not too many Saturn
eyeons out there. So if he is, we'll get in
contact with you. But continue to listen, and hopefully.

Speaker 5 (17:22):
I don't know where my son listens to you. I've
got an eleven year old son, and I'm not he's
probably listening. I'm at work. I don't know if he's
listening or not. I know he's on the Xbox right now.
He's probably listening. So you got a lot of fans
out here, buddy.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
All right, man, Well I appreciate it. You have a
great weekend, all right, buddy, take care Bye bye. Yeah,
my sons don't listen to me, but because they're playing
the video games too, but they're not. Today again, we
have four baseball games today, a birthday party I'm here
in a dinner, and then two baseball games tomorrow and

(17:59):
if they win. If they don't win, aiden and I
will be playing golf. If he does win, we're gonna
have to skip golf. So but uh yeah, just a busy, busy.
It's it's the season. I mean there, we're in tournaments
all the time. It's it's crazy our lives. Walking out
the door and my wife said, I'll see you when

(18:20):
I see I said, yep, we'll cross pass eventually. So
all right, again, taking your phone numbers and call I'm
taking your phone calls and then we're to call five one, three, seven, nine,
fifty five hundred.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
All right, let's go back to the phone as we
have Rusty. Hey, Russy, welcome to the car show. How
can I help?

Speaker 11 (18:38):
Thanks to Stake McCall Dane. Listen, first time talking to you.
Listen to your father over the years when we've spoken
several times. Uh, I was wanting to know You've.

Speaker 12 (18:49):
Was mentioned that you have an import uh you know,
kind of especially for import a shop now and I
was wondering if you work on Porsches and it's an
old one, it's a it's just a it's a boys
audio is it's a two thousand and six Boxer. The
basis automatic Kryptonic two point seven leader mid engine and

(19:09):
you know, I really don't have anything wrong with it
right now.

Speaker 11 (19:12):
I just have a service.

Speaker 13 (19:14):
Every I put it away in the winter, have will
change even though only have I've only got.

Speaker 11 (19:18):
Twenty two thousand when I was on it.

Speaker 13 (19:20):
So you know, it's like I said, I have have
the woe things buy No, you know, times are enemy.

Speaker 11 (19:25):
So you know, and you look on you know online,
all these gurus sitting well the one of these you
know they're saying, well, you need to change the water pipe,
you need to do this, and you do that, and
you know, hoses and things do deteriorate. And my main
question is just to see if you you know, work
on these.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Yeah, absolutely we do. Okay, cool, Yeah, it wouldn't be
a problem at all. You know.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
I ironically my new auto foreign shop.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
We're working on this week.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
I had a nineteen seventy a bug there and twenty
twenty one Lamborghini.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
So uh we we okay, I got so you.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
Know, we have a you know, but yeah, absolutely we
could handle that. We could do that.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
As far as maintenance goes, I mean this porches don't
need a ton. Yes, I think what we do is
we get our eye on it just to see if
it needs anything, I don't know. I know, you know,
if it gets into electronics where it needs some type
of computer module, I'm not going to have the software
to do that. But as far as maintenance tires, brakes,

(20:33):
water pumps, timing belts, things like that, we can handle that. Yeah.

Speaker 13 (20:36):
And that's and that's what and that's what I'm looking
for because, like I said, I have I don't even
you know, we I farm, and yeah, we work on
all of our stuff. I've never touched this thing, you know,
I've never I like have the hood up because you know,
got raised in the convertible halfway aft to get into
the engine bay. I don't even look at it. I
don't even I don't even.

Speaker 11 (20:54):
Touch this thing.

Speaker 13 (20:55):
But you know, I get I get put a couple
thousand miles, get all changed. I mean, and I take
it to local horse dealer. I mean, you know, and
they're but it's you know, it's a little pricey, but
you know, just go play.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
You got paid.

Speaker 11 (21:06):
Yeah, so and I get that, but it's going it's
just a toy. Uh, you know, I still enjoy it.

Speaker 13 (21:12):
So but you know, thinking mate, you know, you guys,
over the years, I'm going like your Dad's helped me out,
so I thought, well, I just check you out and
you know run.

Speaker 11 (21:21):
I know you guys are conscientious about everything.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
So I was just yeah, and you know, find you.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
I appreciate the phone call, and no, I'd be happy
to do it. And I will always shoot you straight
if I get there, and if it's something that I
can't do, Russell, I'll tell you. I'm like, hey, look,
you know it's it's it's something that i'm not you know,
I'm not afraid, you know, I'm not.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
You know, sometimes people will.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
You know, they don't want to like, you know, I
think I can do it, or I think I should
be able to know if I'm like, hey, look doesn't
make sense.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
I don't want to get in over my head. I'll
tell you.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
I'll be honest with you to say, hey, look, I
mean there's there's been times where I'm like, hey, look
we we don't.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
I've got a Mercedes right there.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
I got I have a Mercedes right now, and I
just told the gentleman like, look, I don't have the
software and the equipment to go any farther right, so
it needs to either go to a dealer or a
Mercedes specialist. I'll always shoot you straight and be honest
with you. But I mean I would say ninety percent
of that that that that vehicle I can handle. It's

(22:23):
just it's just, you know, the quirky stuff like maybe
a software issue or a module or something like that.
I just because I had a little Poorsch boxter for
a couple of years and I couldn't communicate with the
ABS modules, so the ABS light trash control light ron
and I mean, heck, I have a shop and I
just I didn't have the means of being able to

(22:44):
do it.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
So I just look, you know, what do you get
rid of it? So I sold it? Yeah, and told
the gentleman.

Speaker 5 (22:50):
That why did you get rid of it?

Speaker 2 (22:54):
I mean, well, I thought it was gonna be fun
little thing to you know, my boys kind of liked it.
But you know, obviously with three boys, you know, I
can only take one at a time. And I thought
I thought my wife would enjoy it. And she's like,
I'm not getting in that thing, and I'm.

Speaker 11 (23:06):
Like, ah, okay, right, So.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
I'm like, okay, well I guess we'll get rid of
it then, okay, sure, okay, but.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
No other reason. I mean, Porsche is a great Porsche
is a great fear.

Speaker 11 (23:15):
In fear of it or anything. Well, you know, I
pick a time bomb or anything, you know, No, no, no, no,
I mean and it's.

Speaker 13 (23:21):
And it's the model than the year with AMN. The
IMS is not supposed to not.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
Be a problem of course, you know. Yeah, I know yourself,
you know.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
And I had so the way I acquired mine was
that needed a clutch. So when they were putting the
clutch in it, I had them do that. I am
I am R C or whatever.

Speaker 11 (23:40):
Yep, yep, yep, yeah, okay, yeah, good for you.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
But no, I'd been more than happy to service it.
And there's something I can't do. I'll just always shoot
your street and be honest with you. So good deal.

Speaker 11 (23:50):
Well, I give you guys a call and I just
drop it off and leave it and then what's done?

Speaker 3 (23:53):
You call? You got it? Well, I appreciate the call.
All right, Well, thank you so much. You have a
great day. Bye bye. Yeah. You know, I'm not afraid
to work on anything.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
And you know, when we had the Lamborghini come in,
my business partner Kyle my cousin.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
So you're not gonna look at that, are you. I'm
like well, it's got an exhaust rad I said, I'll
at least.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Look at it, you know, And it ended up being
just an actuator on the back of the muffler and
we're able to get the part. And you know, so
sometimes people will look at the price tag of the
vehicle or maybe not be familiar enough with it. But
I'll always look at it. I'm not afraid to look
at it and shoot you straight. And if I can't

(24:35):
fix it, I can't fix it, but at least give
you an honest opinion on what I think it is
or maybe where you should take it.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
But that's what I'm here for.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
You know, I can't fix every car out there, but
i'll at least you know, I had a buddy of mine.
He called me up, really really good friend of mine.
He has a nineteen seventy six Porsche. And he goes, Dan,
I know you don't work on these things, but where
can I take it? And I said, well, what's going
on with it? And he goes, it's leaking gas. I said,
all right, Well, I said, just bring it in, tow

(25:04):
it in. I will at least look at it and
give you an aust opinion on maybe what we need
to do. And it turns out that a fuel injector
was leaking and was able to find the part on
Believe it or not, Amazon found the part on Amazon,
had it there within twenty four hours, had it fixed,
and back out on the road, and cost them a
couple hundred bucks.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
You know, at least let me look at it.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
You know, it's sometimes it's it's difficult to determine whether
or not I can fix it or not without looking
at it right. And that's the most difficult part about
our jobs is everybody wants us to, Hey, what's it
going to cost me?

Speaker 3 (25:36):
Well, we don't know. I got to look at it.
You know.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
It's just kind of like if you called your doctor
and said, hey, listen, I've got this this this symptom,
what's wrong with me? Can you fix me? Well, a
lot of times, most of the time, the doctors can say, well, hey,
I need you to come in let me, you know,
maybe do some blood work, maybe do some tests. Right,
And if your doctor's like, hey, you know, I can't
fix you.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
You need to go to a specialist.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Maybe if you're you know, hey, my knees bother me,
he tells you to come in he goes, hey, you
need to go to a knee specialist, right, but at
least bring it to me. Let me look at it,
and I'll shoot you straight, tell you the honest truth.
And if I can't fix it, I will point you
in the right direction with somebody who can, you know,
because I don't you know, we don't always have access
to all of the software, all the tools.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
But at Donovan's will.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Always take a look at it, always give you an
honest opinion, and and not just say hey, sorry, we
can't help you out, you know, wipe our hands and
send you down the road. No, We'll give you advice
as to who you could take it to. And so that's,
you know, that's what I like doing.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
You know.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
One of the things I like doing is like, hey, look,
let me take a look at it. Let me give
you my honest opinion. If I can fix it, great.
If I can't, I'll guide you in the direction as
to who can.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
Right.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
So there's some companies, like I said earlier when I
started the show, if you've got a water leak in
your vehicle because we've had all this rain, I got
a guy.

Speaker 3 (26:58):
I got a guy that can fix that water leak.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
He's local and a great guy, and this is what
he does. He specializes in water leaks. So odds are that,
you know, I've got a guy that can do it
even if I can so, all right again, the number
to call five one three seven four fifty five hundred.
That number gain five one three seven four nine fifty
five one hundred.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
Coming up.

Speaker 2 (27:22):

fifty five hundred, Phil, I promise I'll get.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
You real quickly. We decid.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
We have a young guest that wants to say hi.
It says, Kyle, Hello, are you there?

Speaker 3 (28:23):
Hello? Maybe not Hello?

Speaker 12 (28:28):
Yes, I am there?

Speaker 3 (28:29):
Oh, hey, how are you?

Speaker 11 (28:31):
I'm doing good?

Speaker 3 (28:33):
It says here, You're just wanting to say hi to somebody.

Speaker 6 (28:37):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
I wanted to say hi to Jack Morgan, my father.

Speaker 3 (28:40):
Okay, he does he listen on saturdays.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Okay, all right, Well, Hey, I appreciate you calling Jack.
You said it was Jack Morgan. All right, Well Jack,
I appreciate you listening. And hey, thank you for calling in.
Welcome all right, bye bye, all right Jack Morgan? All right,

(29:05):
So all right, let's go back to the funds we have, Phil, Phil,
I appreciate you holding on.

Speaker 3 (29:09):
How can I help?

Speaker 6 (29:11):
Hey? I have a nineteen eighty seven Chevrolet El Camino
with about one hundred and nineteen thousand miles. Wow, real,
five four.

Speaker 3 (29:19):
Barrel don't see many of those anymore.

Speaker 6 (29:24):
It sits in the garage. Yeah, And when I park it,
it reeks of gas, no leaks nowhere. But I'm smelling
gas not from the gas tank area but from the
engine area. And like I said, it's no leaks anywhere.
I didn't see anything coming from the carburetor, but it's

(29:44):
still reeks of gas.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
Well wow, So so you don't see any gas. I mean, well,
you said it's obviously you said it's carburetor.

Speaker 6 (29:59):
Right, correct, And so the evact I mean the little
cancer on the in front for the emissions. I've replaced that.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
M But.

Speaker 6 (30:15):
So I'm not sure if the if I'm getting some
drips of gas in the four Borough corborator later on
after it sits, but I don't see any signs of
it being wet or anything like that, or really just
coming from directly from the carburetor. But it's in that area.
And if you know that year a car man, there's

(30:36):
a whole bunch of the mission stuff on that thing.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
Well, to be I'll be honest with you, I have
never I have never seen or worked I've seen him
on the street, but I've never worked on an L
Camino ever.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
Uh So.

Speaker 6 (30:56):
Not the three oh five engine with the four Borough
know they put into Monte Carlos and yeah, no, I
have same year.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
Okay, Yeah, I mean, I you know, be more than
happy to look at it. But you've got to have
some type of rubber line or some type of You've
got to so you don't smell it in the cabin.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
You only smell it under the hood, correct, Okay. And
here's the other thing too.

Speaker 6 (31:25):
For a couple of days, the whole garage is thinking.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
Uh, here's the other thing is carburetors were not you know,
carburetors were a thing of the past when I got
into this industry. So when it comes to carburetors too, man,
I am they were something of like I said, something
of the past. So I don't have a ton of
information or a ton of information I could help you with.

(31:52):
I apologize, but it's got to be leaking somewhere. But
I mean, you know, again, i'd stayd this earlier in
the show. But if I could look at it for you,
be more happy to look at it. See if we
can try to determine where it's coming from. It's one
of those things where I'm just gonna have to look
at it. How many miles you said, having one hundred
and twenty two thousand, one hundred, nineteen hundred nineteen. Okay,

(32:14):
did you buy it brand new?

Speaker 6 (32:16):
Second owner?

Speaker 3 (32:17):
Second owner? Okay?

Speaker 6 (32:20):
What colors is about forty thousand miles on it?

Speaker 3 (32:24):
Is it gray or black? Or what color?

Speaker 6 (32:26):
Is it white?

Speaker 3 (32:27):
It's white white. I don't think I've ever.

Speaker 6 (32:31):
Seen it's It has twenty six options, so it's just
like a supersport. But the guy ordered it with all
the options, and I guess he wanted to save some
money and not put the super sport label on it.
But it came with, like I said, twenty six options.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
So so he didn't want the So it is a
super sport.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
It's just not tag or.

Speaker 6 (32:56):
It is not.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Oh, it's not.

Speaker 6 (32:58):
I guess he didn't want to pay the up charge.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
He got all the options, gotcha when he ordered it?

Speaker 6 (33:03):
Yeah, par everything. It's in swaybarre limited but differential.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Any rust on it or anything? No, huh? What's what's
that thing worth? Nowadays?

Speaker 6 (33:21):
I have no idea. Somewhere probably in a ballpark of
twelve to fifteen maybe.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Okay, you just don't see many of them anymore, you know.

Speaker 6 (33:28):
You no, not at all? If you do to rust
it out, Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Know I know, well, keep it, keep it in the griage,
keep it clean. And I apologize. I wish I would
have been able to help you a little bit more.
But you've got some times you've got some type like
you said, could be the carburetor itself, or you've got
some type of I mean, I would, I would inspect.
You know, typically you're gonna have a feed line or
return line.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
They're gonna be metal.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
But it sounds like it's pretty much spent most of
its life in a garage, so I doubt it's it's
gonna it's gonna be a metal or a rusted outline.
It's gonna be some type of rubber hose that's failed
and is leaking somewhere.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
And typically.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
When fuels leaking, it almost kind of looks like it
has like a brown tint to it almost kind of
looks like like rusty water.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
But you're more than welcome to bring it to me.
I won't charge it.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
Let's just pop the hood and see if we can
try to determine where it's coming from. You know, you're
welcome to bring it by. I'll just let's pop the hood.
I'll take a look at it for you. Like I said,
I won't charge it, and let's just try to figure
out where it's coming from.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
I'd be more happy to help you out.

Speaker 6 (34:36):
I appreciate it, all right, Well, thank you.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
So I'm at the Auto four and shop, So Donovan's
Auto four and it's the corner of Montgomery Road and Data.
You don't need to call ahead, just pop in, just
say hey, talk to Dan on the radio show, and
he's gonna take it.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
Just pop take a look at it and love to
try to help you out.

Speaker 6 (34:56):
Appreciate it. Good weekend, all right.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
You too, take care, bye bye.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
That was the thing when I got into this twenty
five years ago. Carburetors were a thing of the past,
and to be honest with you, I can't stand carporators.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
Uh they're such a headache, such a headache.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
I remember when I was twenty one, I bought my
first motorcycle and it was fuel injected, and that was
like because I had had motorcycles in the past that
were carbureted, and what a nightmare. It's just I mean, heck,
I don't even I don't even like my leaf blower

(35:38):
that I have is carbureted. Thing drives me nuts. Fuel
injections the way to go in my opinion, but that
might just be me talking because I'm forty and and
I didn't have to deal with it. So all right again,
taking your phone calls and I would call five one three,
seven four nine fifty five hundred. Coming up, we have Susan,
Dan and Rick. You're listening to the car show on
fifty five krs EE the talk station.

Speaker 7 (35:58):
Do you have a truck, camper or a trailer that
needs body repair? If so, call my buddy Dave Breakmanute.

thirty eight two nine ninety.

Speaker 15 (36:27):
Thirty taking your car questions.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
The number to call five one three, seven four nine
fifty five hundred. Hope you all are enjoying this wonderful
weather we're having again it's a little chili, uh but
uh yeah, it's uh just to see the sun and
no clouds.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
Oh man, it's it's just feels so great.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
So hope everybody's out there, maybe getting some yard work
done or enjoying some you know, some time out and
they just in the great outdoors, maybe bike in or
doing a little bit of run or whatnot. So, like
I said, we will spend our entire weekend at the
ball field, which I don't mind.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
I do enjoy it.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
My son eight and my oldest was playing this morning
and they won their first game, and you know it's
nice to watch, you know, you know, you win some,
you lose some, but he really really enjoys playing baseball.
Golf's his favorite, but he loves playing baseball. And he
does really good job. And I'm not just saying that

(37:35):
because I'm his father, but he does a great job.
He's a catcher. And you know, you can sit there
and watch the Reds and the Bengals and all your
professional teams are which is and I failed to mention this,
but you know, for me, this is the best week
of the year.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
It's the Masters.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
I luckily had the opportunity back in twenty fifteen, had
the opportunity to go and you know, and you know,
I know that sometimes people say, oh, you know, golf's
boring to watch, but man, if you're if you're a golfer,
this is this is the super Bowl of golf, and
uh it's the kickoff to the year. And again, Uh,

(38:16):
I was wearing my master shirt all week and I'm
not wearing it right now, but uh yeah, great week
to be out there. And maybe, uh, if the course
is try enough, maybe getting out there and swinging some clubs.
But it's nothing's more enjoyable than being able to watch
your own kids, uh play and win and and have
a good time. So and play with some friends. Uh
those are I know everybody goes, oh, you know, take

(38:38):
it in now because it's gonna go by fast, and
I know that, but uh, it is fun and enjoyable.
It might be stressful from time to time where you're
running all over the city because I was all the
way up in Hamilton and I I say all the
way up there because you know, anything passed like five
miles and I think.

Speaker 3 (38:54):
It's a mission.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
You know, Tony Bender lives just past the airport and
I have to pass the rest area just to get
to his house, and that's too far from me. So Hamilton, Hamilton,
Danny in fact, you know my producer, he was like, oh,
you know, I love West Hamilton. I'm like, oh my god.
I felt like I was out of town being all
way up in Hamilton. But man, they've done some tremendous job,

(39:18):
tremendous work up there, so very nice.

Speaker 3 (39:21):
So all right, let's go back to the phones. We
have Susan. Hey, Susan, welcome to the car show. How
can I help?

Speaker 16 (39:26):
Well, thank you for taking my call.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
Absolutely, thank you for holding well.

Speaker 16 (39:30):
That's right. I've got a twenty fifteen Nissan Rogue. In October,
I had a rear tire that needed to replace, and
I took it to Bob Somervil Tipprola, which I've had
lots of work done there before. The tire had to
be replaced. They said I had to replace the hire
opposite of it too.

Speaker 5 (39:48):
Now.

Speaker 16 (39:49):
I questioned it and I said, do I not have
to have all four tires replaced because I have all
will drive? They told me no, And I've had a
tyre replace her in the past where we had to
replaced fall four. They told me, no, that only had
to get the tire opposite of it replaced because in
the rotation the two in the back would go to
the front, the two in the front would go to

(40:09):
the back, and that the size difference wasn't that big
a deal. So January I start having this grinding sound.
I thought it was my CVT transmission. So I took
it to the Nissan dealership and what had happened. My
all wheel drive was out. I had to replace my
rear final drive assembly, had to get four new tires,
and they said it was the damage done to different

(40:31):
sized tires. There were two tires they said, at ten
and two tires at five, and then they were three
different brands on it, so you know, and that was
quite an expensive repair. So I went back to the
Triple A and they were very nice and said, you know,
I think y'all made a mistake. I think I would

(40:51):
see if I can get some reimbursement for having to
get this work done. They sent it to Triple A Claims.
About a month later the claims came. I did give
Claims the number of my contact person at this on
this song was more than willing to give every bit
of information they could to the claims department, but they
never did call this on. They denied the claim, saying

(41:13):
that if it was their fault with the tires, that
this damage would have happened immediately, not three months later.
They had no idea what I had done to my
car and during that time, and that I shouldn't have
taken it to the dealership and should have taken it
back to the Triple A store. So my question is
would it have actually have taken happened immediately or it's

(41:35):
that three month time and appropriate time to have this
damage done to where I can try to challenge that claim.

Speaker 2 (41:44):
Great question, So absolutely I think, and listen, we will
always at Donovan's we always accept, you know, listen, it
was their fault. Okay, if the back tires were at
ten thirty seconds, in the front were at five thirty second,
and that's way too much of a difference. Two thirty
seconds is typically so if the back tires are at

(42:06):
ten thirty seconds, that's the thickness of the tread. Those
front tires need to be at eight thirty seconds, So
at five at half that's too much. So absolutely that's
what caused the four wheel drive to go out now, No,

(42:28):
it's not. It does not necessarily mean it's gonna happen
right away. Every year making model is gonna be a
bit different. But if it went out within three months
of replacing those two tires. And I'm not listen, I
I you know, I'm not picking on them or anything
like that, but yes, I do believe that you have
a very good gripe and have a good uh you know,

(42:52):
case against them in the sense that, yeah, those tires.
And listen, I've had this argument multiple times. People are like, well,
why do I need to do all four because you
could ruin the four wheel drive, And no, it doesn't happen.
It doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna happen right away. It
can happen down the road, it can happen three months later.
So okay, And again, I I don't know anybody there,

(43:14):
and I'm not picking on them, but I do believe
that they were at fault, and you do have a
good case, and I would I would try to pursue
them to try to take care of you on that
because they really should do the right thing in my opinion,
and so I would I would try to fight them
on that.

Speaker 16 (43:34):
Okay, I will do that, especially when I specifically asked,
don't I need four tires?

Speaker 3 (43:40):
Right yeah, you were even helping them do their job,
and they still didn't.

Speaker 6 (43:45):
Right yeah.

Speaker 2 (43:47):
You did the right thing, and you're doing the right thing.
And unfortunately I do think that they're they're at fault.
And it doesn't ness. It does not mean that it's
gonna happen right away. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it does,
but in your case, it didn't. It took some time
and three months later it went out. And if the
tires were the fronts were at five thirty seconds and
the rears were at ten mm, whoever was selling you

(44:11):
those tires wasn't doing his job so or just didn't
have the proper knowledge, right yeah.

Speaker 16 (44:18):
The dealership said that, you know, the deficit can't be
any more than three.

Speaker 2 (44:23):
Yeah, And well that's why I even I'm even kind
of conservative, and that's why I'm saying like two two
thirty seconds is so you know, a brand new tire
is typically ten thirty seconds, and that's again the thickness
of the tread. You don't want to go most manufacturers
don't want you to go any less than two.

Speaker 3 (44:40):
So at eight thirty seconds. So the fact that those
were at five thirty seconds.

Speaker 2 (44:44):
That's a massive difference, and those front tires should have
been replaced as well with the backs. Okay, So I
do think that you have a case, and I do
think that they're at fault.

Speaker 16 (44:54):
Okay, well, thank you. And when I talked to the
claims department, the last thing they said is and I
asked this, there any way that I can appeel this,
and they said no, it's shut. So I guess my
next step.

Speaker 12 (45:04):
I I have to get a lawyer.

Speaker 2 (45:06):
Yeah, and just do small claims court, right, right, do
small claims?

Speaker 3 (45:11):
All right, Well, good luck to you. I'm sorry you
have to go through that.

Speaker 2 (45:14):
That's that's it's such a headache.

Speaker 3 (45:16):
I'm sorry you have to go through that. But you're
doing the right thing.

Speaker 2 (45:18):
And I do think that you do have a good
case and they are at fault.

Speaker 16 (45:23):
So okay, well, thank you so much to you. All Right,
I appreciate.

Speaker 3 (45:27):
Call me back with it, call me back with an update.

Speaker 2 (45:30):
So yeah, it's it's important that you have the right
people in place to to to sell tires. I mean,
nowadays you could think that, oh hell, anybody can just
sell tires.

Speaker 3 (45:40):
I know, the car's got all wheel drive.

Speaker 2 (45:44):
Again, two thirty seconds is typically the difference that you
can see that you have to be. So if you
come in to Donovan's or any other repair shop and
you've got a low tire and they say you need one,
you come in there, You're like, well, I just have
a slow leak in one tire and they're like, hey,
you can't be fixed, you need four.

Speaker 3 (46:00):
You're like, what are you talking about? What do I
need for?

Speaker 2 (46:02):
If your car is all time, all wheel drive, all
the tires have to be the same tread thickness because
otherwise you'll burn up you're all wheel drive. So so hey, listen,
Rick Steve, I do apologize.

Speaker 3 (46:19):
That I could not get to you.

Speaker 2 (46:20):
I will be back next Saturday to answer all of
your car questions. Everybody, have a great weekend, enjoy this
