Speaker 3 (00:22):
That's a little so good afternoon. Welcome to the car Show.
I'm fifty five KRC the talk station. I'm Dame Donovan
from Donovan's Auto entire Center taking all of your car
questions and number to call five to one three seven
fifty five hundred. That number again, five one three seven
fifty five hundred.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
I am here. I hope everybody had a great Easter.
I know I did.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
And we've got to sit down and spend some time
with family and friends, and uh it was great. So
I hope everybody enjoyed their Easter. But it's a little
bit of a chilly saturday here, cloudy. But again I'm
here to take all of your car questions. And again
I do it every Saturday, and it's to you know,

(01:10):
to help you guys out and guide.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
You through whatever car need you may have.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Okay, so again the number to call five one three
seven fifty five hundred. I was with some good friends
of mine earlier, just before I got here, and I
tried to He's a great friend of mine, and I
try to guide him through his buying his car buying

(01:35):
purchases right, And he says, Dane, I wanna either buy
a Nissan or a Ford Mustang. What are your thoughts?
And I said to him, by the Ford. Now, I
thought he would take my advice. But I spoke to
him earlier again just before I got to the show,
and he goes, Dane, are you gonna be mad at

(01:56):
me if I buy the Nissan? And I said, no,
but I'm gonna talk talk about it on the radio
because I tried to. I tried. I tried to warn you.
I've just but you know he he doesn't keep them long, right,
So you know, if you're gonna buy a vehicle that uh,

(02:16):
you know, some people get bored with them, right, you know,
driving for a couple of years, you can get want
you get rid of it and get a new one.
And I said, okay, that's fine. If you're gonna buy
a vehicle and you're gonna drive the wheels off it,
as we the term we use, then you don't want
to buy a Nissan, but he goes, no, Dan, I'll
keep it for a couple of years, I'll get rid
of it. I said, well, that's fine, you can get
the knies on. But you know, sometimes you can lead

(02:39):
a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.

Speaker 5 (02:41):
You know.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
I try to help these guys out as best as
I can, and you know, they do what they want
to do, and that's fine, you know, I'm but I'm
here every Saturday to try to guide you through that process. Also,
great friend of mine, that's that that I was spoken
speaking to earlier. You know, he's got to set a
wheels and tires that been sitting at my shop. Been

(03:04):
trying to get him to pick him up, and I
I've I've even offered to, you know, drop him off
at his house, and I just I can't get him off.
I just can't. I can't get him to figure out
what he wants to do with him. Uh So, I mean,
which is fine. I mean, his storage every day just
keeps going up, so I you know, he's gonna he's
gonna owe me a tremendous amount of money. But eventually

(03:27):
he'll come pick him up. Maybe I don't know, we'll
see so. Uh again we're taking your phone calls and
it'll call five one three seven nine fifty five hundred
that number again, five one three seven nine fifty five hundred.
Hope every again, it's having a great Saturday. Listen again. Uh,
any type of car question you may have, Okay, you

(03:49):
may be in the market to buy a new or
used vehicle. Might you might need some guidance as to
maintenance or repair. That's what I'm here for, okay, So please, Uh,
there's no question too silly or too too dumb or whatnot.
We you know, I always try to advocate to This
show is about making sure that you're comfortable with your

(04:10):
vehicles and and and just making sure that I can
help you out in any matter that I can. Okay,
So don't ever feel like, oh, I'm not gonna call him.
I don't want to sound sillier. No, That's what I'm
here for. I'm here to try to guide you through
that process of whether you're buying a car, you've got
a broke down car, whatever.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Okay. Uh, that's what this show's about.

Speaker 6 (04:32):
You know.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
I try not to get too technical or anything like that.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
It's just trying to guide people through the process of
getting the car fixed, and Hey, Dan, what should I do?
Because you know, there's a lot of you know, I'm
going to use the word but shenanigans. It goes around
in the industry, and sometimes I hear what people tell me,
and you know, sometimes it'll frustrate me, like man that
that's not right. And it's important that you get the

(04:57):
best information that you possibly can, and I want to
provide that to you. So as a listener, for those
of you out there who are a listener, that's what
I'm here to do. I'm here to not guide you.
I'm you know, I'm not paid by anybody. I'm I'm
here to guide you in the right direction. It could
be like, Hey Dane, what do you think about this oil?
Or Hey Dane, what do you think about this product

(05:19):
or whatnot. That's what I'm here to do, okay. So
don't ever feel like you can't call because it's not
too technical or whatnot, anything that that that pertains to
your vehicle. I'm here to do, okay. So again, then
number to call five, one, three, seven. All right, let's
go to the phones.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
We have James. Hey, James, welcome, to the car show.
How can I help?

Speaker 7 (05:40):
Okay, good day. My sister asked me a question, but
I think I need your thoughts on it.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (05:46):
She has a Lexus convertible with's forty five thousand miles on.
It's a V eight four point three leader. The year
is two thousand and two, and as it's Alexis SC
four thirty, she normally just drives it around town as
for fun, but she wants to go on a ROOT

(06:09):
sixty six trip this summer. Okay, she's asking should she
have the timing belt change because of what it's all
so old?

Speaker 4 (06:20):
Great question and absolutely yes.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
So here's here's the deal.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
So within an O two, I understand that it has
forty five thousand miles, So typically those belts back in
OH two are or Toyota recommended. Well I know it's Alexis,
but Toyota a Lexis. They recommended those belts be replaced
at ninety Okay, okay, but.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
Timing belts are you know, it's a rubber belt, right, and.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
They will they wear even though that they're they're completely
sealed up and they're not really exposed to the elements, right,
those belts will eventually that rubber will break down and
we'll crack.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
And I would highly recommend. I mean, with it being
a No.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
Two.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
You said it has forty five thousand miles on it, Yes, sir, okay,
So I absolutely would recommend that she does it. If
she's gonna do Root sixty six, she's gonna drive it
that amount of time, I would, I really would. And
here's here's what I'm gonna tell you too. If she
does it, and I highly recommend it just because of

(07:25):
the age, not because of the mileage, but but because
of the age, there's a possibility. Listen, there's apps she
can absolutely go the whole route and back and not
have any problems, right right, But with the age.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
I'm a little bit leary.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
I'm concerned that we want to make sure that she's
safe and she's not broke down because obviously she's broke
down in the middle of nowhere, it's gonna cost her
a fortune. Right, So if she's gonna to do her
due diligence, I would do it.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
Now. I want to reiterate to you, if she does it,
make sure because the dealer, if she takes it to
you know, obviously it takes to most shops are gonna
recommend replacing everything. A lot of the times the dealer
will just recommend replacing the timing belt. But what I
will tell you if she does it, please tell her timing.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Belt, the water pump, the tension everything that they touch,
everything that's behind the timing cover needs a bold replaced.
The seals, the cam seals, the crank seal, the tensioner pulleys,
the tensioner pulley, the water pump, and the belt.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
Do it all while you're there, because does she need
all that?

Speaker 3 (08:39):
No? Is it gonna add costs? Yes, But it's kind
of like we're opening up. It's like open heart surgery.
We're opening up. Let's just do everything that we put
our hands on. Let's get that done, replace it, and
then she doesn't have to do it for another you know,
forty five thousand miles.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
Okay, I mean, you know, with it being an.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Ode to you know, you know, you know, if if
your doctor was like, hey, you know, hey, there's something
going on with your heart, You're gonna go in there.
You're gonna be like, hey, if there's anything else that's
wrong in my heart, go ahead and fix it while
you're there, right, so you you want to get everything
done because a lot of dealerships will have a tendency
to just slap the belt on it.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
And let's just say six months later, the water pump
starts leaking.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Well, guess what, they got to take that belt back off,
and she's got to spend that same amount of labor
to replace the water pump.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
The water pump is you know, so I would just
do it all while.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
They're in there.

Speaker 7 (09:34):
Yeah, I wanted to get your thoughts because my first
thought to her was yeah, change it and the water pump,
but I didn't know about the seals and the tensioner.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Yeah, so you've got you have. You're gonna have two
cam seals and a crank seal. Those seals can leak
oil at any point and they're gonna be right there.
So you're gonna want those seals done because they can
leak oil at any time.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
And again you're pulling that off.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
So two cam seals, crank seal, and then you've got
the timing belt the water pump, and then you have
what's called it tensioner rollers. Right there, there's two tensioner
rollers that are gonna keep tension on that belt and
there's bearings in there, and those bearings can fail lock
up the timing belt and and do damage. So all
of that needs to be replaced. And again it's not

(10:21):
going to add a tremendous amount of costs. I'm talking
it might add maybe five hundred bucks more. Right, Okay,
you know, but you know if she does just the
timing belt and she gets halfway across the country and
the water pump starts leaking, then guess what she's doing
it all over again. Yeah, that's what I would recommend.
Great question. But yeah, with again the mileage I'm not

(10:44):
too concerned about, but it's it's it's the age that
belt is that belt could I mean it could already
have cracks and be frayed already. So she doesn't want
that on that long road trip. So great question, And uh,
glad you called. But I would I'd recommend doing it.

Speaker 7 (10:59):
Okay, I appreciate your thoughts.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
Thank you very much, take care, have a great day.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
Great question, man, There these are the things that we
have to talk about, because yes, timing belt needs to
be replaced. At ninety thousand, she only has forty five.
But the car is an O two, right, So these
belts are rubber, and they start getting cracks in them.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
They you know, over time they'll break.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
And a lot of a lot of vehicles are what
we call interference engines. So if the timing belt breaks,
now typically toyotas are not hondas are. So the belt
breaks and the valves stay open, piston comes up, smacks
the valves and you just ruined your engine.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
So a great question.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
And again, even even though it has forty five thousand
miles and there it's not due till ninety it's an
O two, it's time, so it and of course if
you're going to run across the country, you want to
get that done. So great question. So all right again,
take your phone calls and call five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifty five hundred coming up. We have Dianne and Rick.

(12:07):

But you want more car advice, That's.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
What I'm here for. Okay, So again, then number to
call five on three seven nine fifty five hundred.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
Let's go back to the phones we have. Diane. Hey,
welcome to the car show.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
How can I help?

Speaker 10 (13:49):
Well, my husband has a two thousand and four Nissan
Center or I'm sorry Nissan Titan that we bought new,
and it has two hundred and eighty seven thousand miles
on wow, and it's yeah, and it's pulled our camper.
It's I mean, it's been a workhorse of a of
a truck and he wants to buy another one. And

(14:12):
we've been saving because trucks are so expensive and we're
going to drive this one to the wheels fall off.
But he wants to buy another Titan. And I heard
your comment earlier about Ford versus you know, you'd rather
you would buy a Ford before you would buy a Nissan,
because you know they're only work so, you know, last
couple of years, and I know that his brothers made
fun of him when he bought it because they bought

(14:33):
you know, they drive Ford trucks and uh, they went
through two and three trucks and we still have ours.
So I'm wondering, what what do you how do you
feel about the new newer Titans, a new Nissan Titan truck.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
You know, I've never been a Nissan fan. Okay, and
that's and that's you know it's now let me let
me hear me out on this.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
So the Titan. I've got a really great friend of mine.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
He has a Nissan Titan too, and I the last
time I talked to him, he almost had three hundred
thousand on his Okay. So I really can't speak for
the Titan because there's not too many of them out there. Okay.
The Nissan cars I do not like. I just they
have CVT problems and they're a nightmare.

Speaker 4 (15:20):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
So but this gentleman that I was talking about earlier,
he's buying a Nissan car, and I just I'm not
a big fan of him. They're they're kind of a nightmare.
Nobody can you know, you can't get software to work
on him. It's it's it's challenging. Okay. So as far
as the new ones, I really can't speak for them.
I just don't like. The Nissan is a brand I

(15:41):
just don't like. Now, listen, two hundred and eighty five
thousand miles. It's gonna be hard for me to change
your mind, right, I mean, that's that's phenomenal mileage on
a vehicle.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
You did great.

Speaker 10 (15:52):
Yeah, And so I mean over the summer, we told
we you know, we hold a bunch of rock and
big rock. So they were doing a patio down our
lake place. And uh, I mean it's been. I mean
it just goes and goes and goes. It doesn't look
great anymore because it's it's oh yeah, but I mean
it's not you know, but he wants he would like
to buy another one. Now, I did have a Nissan
Central R Series myself. Huh and uh, well it's it's whole.

(16:16):
I mean it's gone now that well, it's not gone.
I gave it to my grandson. He still drives it.
But I didn't have a whole lot of trouble with
the R Series, but I did with the regular Central
that I and I drive Condo Civics. Now he drives
the you know, the truck and I drive the smaller car.
But but I think we're probably gonna stick with the
Titan because it's been such a workhorse as a good
I mean a good truck. I mean, yeah, you know,

(16:38):
well any money in it.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Yeah, I mean you did, you did a great job.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
And you know, you know, I can talk to the
thing about cars, you know, I I see everything right,
but and I might form an opinion that maybe it
maybe a bit biased. But you know, I can have
two customers, right, they have the same truck, same exact truck,
same situation, right, and one will tell me I'll never

(17:05):
buy another Nissan truck. And then like you, you're like, hey,
this thing's been a workhorse. We've got two hundred eighty
five thousand. Well, this truck's been great, you know. And
sometimes it's hit or miss like that. Sometimes it's the year,
sometimes it's you know, sometimes it's the year and when
it was made and everything like that. So I can't
speak for the new ones. I you know, I hate

(17:27):
to anytime that somebody's happy with a product, whether I mean,
I had a customer Thursday goes Dane, my son needs tires.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
I really want to buy Michelin tires. That's what I
want to buy.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
And I said, okay, I'm not going to talk anybody
out of what they want, right because I always feel
like if I talk somebody out of what they want
and I'd say, oh, no, you need this.

Speaker 4 (17:48):
And they don't. They're not happy with it. They're gonna
be like, you don't know what you're talking about.

Speaker 10 (17:51):
You know.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
So if you're happy with it, and you're happy with
the product, and again you did a great job. I mean,
two hundred eighty five thousand miles, that's phenomenal, I would
stick with what you like, you know. I you know, it's.

Speaker 10 (18:05):
Still it's still going strong. So it's gonna be a
little while before it's before we're you know, because we
want you know how expensive trucks are now, and we
don't want to have finance and so we've been putting
money away to get a new one. But that's what
my husband wants to get. And you know, but I
thought maybe you knew something I didn't know about.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
No, no, it's then, no, No, it's not that I
know anything that you don't.

Speaker 4 (18:26):
It's just.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Nissan as a brand is just my one of my
least favorite brands. It's just they're very hard to work on.
Uh they're you're very limited to resources as to who can.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
Work on them. And they just have uh a rep.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
You know, they just have a you know, they just
I don't know, it's just it's just not what I
would lean towards. It's just but you know, again, you
did a great job on it. What about what about
the Toyota Tundra. Did you look into that?

Speaker 10 (18:58):
Well, yeah, well our son works for Honda, and you know,
he's he wants us to get we get a big
discount too, also because we're families. Yeah maybe, but then
he just sudden and I don't especially like the way
they look eatter, but whatever, I mean, it looks on
and everything like it's a workhorse, like this truck. You know,
I could, I could, you know.

Speaker 6 (19:20):
Live with it.

Speaker 10 (19:20):
I'm kind of going back and forth. But I'm just
he likes his or his Titan.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Well, you know, and again you know, I don't want
to talk to anybody out you know, we try get
another Titan. There's nothing, there's no secret sauce, there's nothing
that I know different than anybody else. I just it's
probably my least favorite car to work on. There are
a nightmare to work on. But that's on my end,
you know, right. But I mean I would never own one,

(19:49):
but that's just me. But you did a great job
at two hundred and eighty five thousand, So you're doing
something right. And also, you know it does come to
as far as cars go and maintenance and getting the
most miles out of your vehicles, it always comes down
to the consumer and the person that's driving that vehicle.
Sounds like you took care of it and that's why
you get two hundred and eighty five thousand miles out

(20:10):
of it.

Speaker 10 (20:11):
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah. He never missed at little change
or any kind of.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Maintain and that I and I've talked about this a
million times on this show. That's the best thing that
you can do and is taking care of it and
oil changes. That's the best thing and cheapest thing that
you can do to maintain the vehicle and keep it
running is just changing the oil regularly and just staying
on top of maintenance's and that's a big proponent.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
And unfortunately, you know, we're a busy society.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
We've got kids and everybody's running around, and we kind
of make the car a last priority and then we'll
end up, you know, not taking care of it. And yeah,
so as long as he's doing that, then I think
the Meissan will be fine.

Speaker 10 (20:54):
All right, Well, I appreciate your time.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
Man, You're very welcome. You take care. Thank you for
the call.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
All right again taking your phone calls in order to
call five one fifty five hundred. Going back to the phones,
we have Rick Hey Rook, Welcome to the car show.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
How can I help?

Speaker 11 (21:11):
Hey Dale? Yeah, I have had a history though. I
like independent shops. I used to live in Cincinnati and
I had a good shop over and they and Anderson
that I worked with. I now live in Indianapolis. I
can't but are supposed to be good shops, are not?
They like I had? I had Acy done. I said,

(21:33):
you know, do factory parts and no oil change. It
has it's a suv that has the Corvette motor and
stuff from the factory. They gave it a conventional oil change,
which you don't do on a Corvette motor, and they
put in they put on a Chinese AC compressor that
they cut the wire, the factory wiring, and it's a

(21:55):
very valuable And they were like supposed to be the
best in the town. And I converted them. They lied
and then I put a review on Google saying that
and they yelled at me and it was nasty.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
So man, I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
You have to go through that.

Speaker 11 (22:13):
Unfortunately, I'm having that problem. Like go to a shop,
I try them out and they buy They buy the
cheapest part and get it out as fast as possible
without quality. So how do I find an independent shop?
I prefer to do that over a dealer. But dealers,
but these guys are basically just trying to make money.

Speaker 7 (22:32):
I guess.

Speaker 4 (22:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
I mean, man again, I'm sorry you have to go
through that. There are there are great shops out there,
There are shops. I mean it says here that you know,
you want to find a shop that it's going to
be able to put dealer parts on or at least
OBM right or you know. I mean that's what that's
what we do. But with you know, that's hard to say.

(22:56):
I mean district gonna. You said you're in Indianapolis. Yeah, okay,
you know you're just gonna. I think you're just gonna
have to. Man, it's hard to say because I don't
know any shops in Indianapolis. But and I mean if
you if you know, if you walked in my door

(23:18):
and said, Dane, I want deal with parts, I do
it or ohem original equipment. But yeah, it sounds like
you know, they're hacks. You're there, there's hacking parts in there,
and you can't do that. You cannot do that to
people in cars. You just can't do that. That's frustrating.
And that's what you know. And I get frustrated about

(23:39):
that because you know that as a whole, as an industry,
makes makes everybody look bad because these guys are not
doing what they're supposed to be doing. And I you know, again,
it's just gonna it's just gonna be doing the research,
trying to find a shop that's gonna do. I mean
that that's gonna want to do it.

Speaker 11 (24:00):
I'm telling you that I don't want to go ahead,
and I don't want to be that guy says I
want to see the old parts you take off and
I want to see the boxes of the new parts.
I don't want to be that guy.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
No, no, no, And you know, and I you know,
as a guy that works on cars, I could appreciate
that because I mean, people do that to me. But
I'm gonna I'll give you the old parts. I run
my business honestly, and and I will give them the
old parts.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
But I always try to I.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
Don't we don't, you know, I don't try to cut corners.
I always try to do original equipment because topeel honest
with you, everything else that's out there is just garbage
and it doesn't work and it's gonna come back. And
you know, we offer a two year, twenty four thousand
mile warranty. Well, if I put a part on your
car and it's junk and it's back in six months,
what did I just do. I didn't do anything. I
didn't help you out. I didn't help me out, and

(24:48):
I'm putting another You know, the way that you do it,
the way that you go about it, is that you
gotta find You're gonna have to do your your your
your Google research, find a reputable show that has you know,
years of experience, and you just asked the question.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
Just come out of the gate.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
Hey, listen, I want original equipment, either dealer or original.
So like, if somebody comes to me and says, you know,
don't tell them that you'll buy the parts, because that's
they're not gonna want to do that. No shop wants
you to do. I want you to work on my car,
but I want to bring my own parts. And I'm like,
do you go to McDonald's and bring your own cheeseburger
like so, But the way you approach it is you

(25:30):
find a reputable shop and nowadays it's views right Google reviews,
or you know, find one a generational shop kind of
like us. I mean, I'm third generation. Generational shop doesn't
have to be it could be a brand new shop,
but just ask the question. Hey listen, I'm you know,

(25:51):
I don't want to be a jerk by any means,
but hey, listen, I want original equipment. I want dealer
or at best, original equipment.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
Okay, So what type of vehicle do you have?

Speaker 11 (26:05):
I have right now a twenty twenty two.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Avalons Okay, so twenty two avalon right, I would like,
you know, dealer or OEM original equipment manufacturer, which is
gonna be typically on Toyota. It's gonna be denzo Is.
Denz's probably the biggest manufacturer for Toyota.

Speaker 4 (26:29):
But you just just.

Speaker 3 (26:31):
Be upfront with them and just tell them, hey, listen,
I want original equipment or OEM original equipment manufacturer. I
want original equipment on this vehicle, and you'll just be out.

Speaker 11 (26:42):
You go ahead, and with today's engines like this one
I bought, it could have stilled the old P six
the last year they Toyota made the.

Speaker 6 (26:50):
Old P six.

Speaker 11 (26:52):
But I know that they have all this PBT and
all this cold stuff they use it the oil. So
I want the factory oil filter because now the pressure
drop across the oil filter makes a difference now where
before you.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
Could buy anybody absolutely, yeah, yeah, I mean most shops.
Most shops. I mean at least my shop. If you
bring me, like, if you bring me Toyota oil and
a Toyota filter, I'm gonna I'll put it on for you, right.
I don't like when, like you know, you want to
go down to the street to I'm not picking on them,

(27:29):
but Auto Zone. I want to bring my own now,
you know, if you want Toyota equipment, I'll put it on.
So and just telling me I want Toyota, I just
want Toyota oil and filter. I mean, I'm I'm a
little I'm I'm I'm I'm the same way. I'm a
little I'm a little weirdo. But like I buy all

(27:50):
my oil and filter from Ford. I have a Ford truck.
I buy it from Ford. Everybody makes fun of me
for it, but that's just I you know, it's original equipment.
To the vehicle, and I think that's it's important.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
Engineers.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
Sometimes I curse at them because of the way they
manufact make these cars, but in these trucks, but these
vehicles were engineered for a reason with this equipment, and
I just kind of stick to it, you know.

Speaker 11 (28:16):
So yeah, and I want this to last long time
because it's the last hurrah of the normal icy you know,
the internal combustion into the front, the turbos or hybrids,
the last the last year they made them.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
Yep, you're right, You're right. No good for you.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Keep it up, I mean, just change it will regularly.
Do what you said you're gonna do, do the uh
the Toyota original equipment parts and and you're gonna be fine.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
All right, Yeah, all right, thank you, all right.

Speaker 3 (28:45):

Two nine ninety thirty eight two nine ninety thirty.

Speaker 9 (29:27):
It's Glenn Beck weekday mornings at nine oh six on
fifty five KRC, the talk station taking.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
Your car questions again.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
The number to call five one, three, seven four nine
fifty five hundred. I apologize I went a little over
on the last time, so I have to.

Speaker 4 (29:41):
Be a little bit shorter.

Speaker 5 (29:42):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
But let's go back to the phones. We have Nick. Hey, Nick,
welcome to the car show. How can I help?

Speaker 6 (29:48):
Hey? You helped me out When I was calling in
the winter time, my wife's car had a funny rattle
to it every time. The I figured it out that
it was the fan house. It was a one of
the two cooling fans on the front.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
On front rattling and the.

Speaker 6 (30:04):
Yeah, okay, so we got that fixed, and it's you know,
like you said, I looked at it's only two bolts,
but I went ahead and paid the guy to do that.
Now I'm having the trouble though, with air conditioning, and
I didn't have any dye in it, and with the
weather being so hot weird, it was hard to get
the right one day to get a shot of free

(30:26):
On into it. The first shot of free first shot
of free On we put in it. You could smell
it and hear it. Lee can have almost So I said,
all right, I'll put the die in it. And here
as I can tell, it's coming out of the steel
on the front of the compressor, and only on the
high side, because it doesn't come out when it's static.
It only comes out when you load the compressor. Is

(30:49):
how much book time is there on replacing that seal?

Speaker 3 (30:54):
I mean, I wouldn't think that it would man with
a fourth I wouldn't think it'd be too much book
time to to to fix it.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
To replace that seal. It's just an O ring.

Speaker 6 (31:07):
So yeah, it's down there.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
It's down in there a little bit though, I mean
I without seeing it's really hard to say, but I
would say maybe an hour, maybe two hours of the
MAXI depends on.

Speaker 4 (31:22):
How I have to get to it. It shouldn't be much.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
I mean, the O ring is, but you you sure
it's coming from the O ring from the you said
it's the high sideline. Yeah, okay, that's so. That's so usual.
Did they have to take those lines off or anything
when they were doing the fans?

Speaker 6 (31:40):
Uh? No, not that I know of. I didn't see
anything fluid coming down his armpit. In August, he said,
the firehouse looks like a good place to be. She's
screaming at you replaced my differential last week. Now my
radiators screwed up? What else did you do to my
car that week? When he said this is not the

(32:01):
good place to be, I don't want to necessarily accuse
somebody as something. If it's something easy enough, it can
be done. But there's it's kind of magic when all
of a sudden you're lost your entire charge.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
Yeah, I mean, well, here, here's here's my My thought
was maybe maybe when they're trying to pull that fan
trout out or they're trying to replace it, they hit
that line and just it was enough force that it
kind of just tweaked it enough that that OH ring
has now failed. You know, it's it's it's hard to say.

(32:38):
It's going to be hard to pinpoint whether or not
they did it or not. But I would I would
say without looking at it. But I mean most ac
lines you can get to relatively quickly. I would say
an hour two hours tops to replace that OW ring.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
Now, what I would tell you.

Speaker 6 (32:56):
Is, you know you got you still got to suck
it all your eye and start over.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
Right, correct, Yes, sir, Yeah, you gotta hold it up
to a machine, suck it down, and then that O ring.

Speaker 4 (33:06):
I'd recommend that you get it from moz that don't.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
If you can't avoid it, because that's only going to be.

Speaker 4 (33:14):
A couple of bucks. You can't avoid it.

Speaker 3 (33:16):
Don't get one from It's not going to be made
out of the same material.

Speaker 4 (33:20):
It's not going to be as good.

Speaker 6 (33:22):
But uh, the reason why she was allowed to buy
that car is because you could still buy Lincoln Navigator
back then.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
God yeah, yeah, but.

Speaker 6 (33:33):
Yeah, I agree. I'm not arguing that at all. I'm
not going to get a cheap set of rings for
something that's that's simple. Yeah, But I was just curious
if what the book time might be and at the
same time. What that might entail in terms of.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
Money, Yeah, I mean.

Speaker 3 (33:52):
You're I would need to be like right in front
of my software to know exactly or or be able
to physically look at it. But I would imagine that
those lines they're usually pretty accessible. So I would say,
I mean my labor rates, you know, one hundred and
fifty an hours, so one hundred and fifty three hundred
bucks max. I mean you're probably at a one to

(34:12):
two hour maybe total, because you gotta suck it down,
put the O rings on, putting a back up, and
then you're charging a back up, So you know, right
you're you're going to be in that price range.

Speaker 13 (34:23):
Well, I paid a diagnostics fee on the last one
when I told them what was going on, and that
same housing was a lot more expensive than I would
have thought what you had thought?

Speaker 3 (34:35):
Yeah, well, Nick Greing, I mean it says here on
the west side. If you like, I'd be more happy
to take a look.

Speaker 4 (34:39):
At it for you. I won't charge it.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
We'll come, we'll get a plan together, and I'll be
more happy to help you out.

Speaker 6 (34:45):
Or I'll stop stop by which shop would is the
best one? Pretty so too?

so I'm going to go back to the phones we have.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
Mike. Hey, Mike, welcome to the Car Show. How can
I help Hi?

Speaker 6 (36:17):
Dane.

Speaker 14 (36:17):
I listened to your show regularly and appreciate you getting
me on today.

Speaker 4 (36:20):
Absolutely, How can I help you?

Speaker 14 (36:23):
I have a nineteen ninety seven Forward Explorer that I've
owned since it was brand new. I've got three hundred
and eighty six thousand miles on it and I've never
had it in a shop. I've take care of it
and maintained it myself, other than maybe wheel alignments or
tires would be the only thing. So I've got a
situation with a head gasket leak. I was started out

(36:45):
losing a little bit of coolant. I tested the radiator
with the fluid and I didn't show any signs of
anything out of the engine in the coolant. So then
I took spark plugs out and checked compression, and my
compression was good. So then I pressurized the radiator and
I could see it leaking between the cylinder and the

(37:09):
exhaust gasket towards that outer edge. And it started out
losing a little bit, and then I got to where
I was losing almost maybe a quart of coolant a week.
So I knew I was in trouble getting no coolant
in the oil yet, so I took a chance with
that many miles on it. You know, I could either

(37:29):
replace the head gasket or put some head gasket additive
into the coolant. And I've heard you talk about that before.
That's kind of a last ditch effort. That's not really
the best best way to fix it, but it may
buy you a little bit of time. So I just
wanted to share that with you. I've got three hundred
and eighty six thousand miles and I did put this

(37:50):
head gasket repair ceilant into the coolant, and I've driven
it over one thousand miles and my week has stopped.
Time will tell me, but I just didn't know from
your experience you know, any idea which your experience has
been with this?

Speaker 3 (38:09):
So do you do you mind sharing with me the product?
What was the product?

Speaker 4 (38:13):
Was it?

Speaker 6 (38:14):
Like?

Speaker 3 (38:14):
Who do you remember the manufacturer who made it or whatnot?

Speaker 14 (38:18):
Yeah, the brand that I used was called c RC
head guess getting black repair?

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Was it like kind of like a little little thing
of like it looked like a like aluminum like it
was kind of like.

Speaker 6 (38:30):
It.

Speaker 14 (38:30):
It was a It was a thirty two court or
thirty two ounce bottle and it says it's got fibers
silica fibers in it are nanotechnology and I compared it
to some of the other ones. Anyway, Sorry, no, no,
you're fine.

Speaker 3 (38:46):
You're fine. So again it's a last ditch effort. I
get three three hundred and six thousand miles. When you
put a head gasket on things, probably gonna cost you
several grand uh. The I think the only downside that
I see when you do that is you know, obviously
that product's designed to fill a hole or fill a
gap or feel that you know, fix that seal. What

(39:09):
it what typically sometimes it will cause is that either
the the heater core will get plugged up because you
won't get good heat won't get good flow because it
plugs up inside there, or sometimes it can go into
the radiator and cause an overheating issue because you know,
it's not getting the cooling through the radiator like it's

(39:30):
supposed to.

Speaker 4 (39:32):
That's the only downside.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
That's the only thing that I you know, and again,
you know, listen, I've done it for my customers. It
depends on what what they want to do. And there's
nothing wrong with what you did. I don't think that
if it's stopped, great. The only downside that I've ever
seen using a head gasket product is it sometimes will
either block up the heater core or block up the radiator,

(39:54):
where again heater core you have no heat. If it
blocks up the radiator, it overheats. Those are the only
two downsides to it. So just keep your eye on
the coolant level. Keep your eye if the heat's still
working great, and it's and the temperature gauge is working
good and it's not and it stopped and it's not
leaking any coolant, then you know, great, you know, And

(40:15):
again I get it. Ninety seven You said as a
ninety four or ninety seven, Explore.

Speaker 14 (40:20):
It's a ninety seven. I've had it twenty seven years.

Speaker 4 (40:22):
Okay, So I mean I get it.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
I mean it probably would have cost you thousands of dollars,
so it's it's worth a shot. Those are the only
two things that you need to look for is keep
your ony on the temperaure gage, make sure it's not overheating.
And then again in the winter or whatnot, you notice
it doesn't have great heat. It could potentially have plugged
up the heater core. But if it doesn't, great and
I'm glad it worked out for you.

Speaker 14 (40:44):
We if it keeps working and I get quite a
people in around miles, I'll give you a call back
and give you an update.

Speaker 4 (40:49):
I'd appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (40:51):
Thank you so much. I have a great weekend. I
don't always advocate for putting products in cars that are
kind of like a band aid, but I get it.

Speaker 4 (41:00):
It's a ninety sevens, three hundred and six thousand miles.

Speaker 3 (41:02):
You don't want to put thousands of dollars into it,
so it's kind of a last ditch effort. And I
don't know a ton about the products simply because at
all costs try not to use them. But I in
his situation, I get it, so all right, let's go
back to the phones we have, Diane, Diane, welcome to
the show.

Speaker 4 (41:21):
How can I help?

Speaker 2 (41:23):
Yes, I give a code on my car. It's four
four nine and it's a mission vent solo annoyed valve
control circuit. What does that mean? How much does it cost?
And can I drive without it being fixed? I don't
see it seem that he have any problems right now.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
No, you can absolutely drive it.

Speaker 3 (41:47):
You don't have to have it fixed.

Speaker 4 (41:49):
What what what you're making?

Speaker 7 (41:51):
Models?

Speaker 4 (41:51):
Your vehicle?

Speaker 2 (41:53):
It's an old mobile. Have you heard of at U?

Speaker 10 (41:55):
Huh?

Speaker 3 (41:55):
Model?

Speaker 4 (41:56):
Yeah, ultimobile? Yeah yeah, well year.

Speaker 2 (42:01):
One, uh silhouette Mini vans.

Speaker 3 (42:05):
Oh okay, all right, gotcha. Wow, that's that's an oldie.
But goodie. No, yeah, you know, to be honest with you, Diane,
that part that you need is not going to be
available anymore, just simply because of the age. But listen,
you can absolutely drive that car. It's not gonna hurt anything,

(42:27):
it's not gonna break down. You'll be perfectly fine just
driving that vehicle the way it is. Unfortunately, we'll leave
the light on. But that part that you need is
just it's just not available anymore.

Speaker 2 (42:38):
But what does it what is it supposed to do?

Speaker 4 (42:43):
It's reiterate to me. What again? What? What? What was
the code that you had?

Speaker 2 (42:49):
Four four nine emission vent sol annoid valve control circuit.

Speaker 4 (42:55):
So it's it's an emissions it's it's event valve.

Speaker 3 (42:58):
So you have you have what's called an EVAP system
evaporative emission system. Okay, So your gas tank is kind
of it's pressurized, and the the fumes that are in
your gas tank are sent up to the front of
the engine to be burned. The government doesn't want them to,
you know, they don't want them to go into the atmosphere.

(43:19):
So the vent selenoid will vent them and vent them
into the engine so that the car doesn't you know,
those fumes from the gas tank don't come out into
the atmosphere. They get burned and go out the tailpipe.
So that selenoid is not doing its job. It's not
venting the gas fumes anymore. You're not leaking gas. It's
just gas fumes and that selenoid's not working anymore. So

(43:41):
not gonna hurt anything. It's just unfortunately going to leave
the light on.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
Well, thank you very much.

Speaker 4 (43:47):
You're very welcome. You have a great weekend.

Speaker 3 (43:50):
All right, real quick, we've got just we only have
about two minutes, so Gary, Hey, Gary, I welcome to
the car show.

Speaker 4 (43:57):
Real quick.

Speaker 3 (43:58):
I don't want to be rude. I want to get
to your question. I just I'm going to have to
go in about two minutes.

Speaker 6 (44:04):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (44:04):
My question was I had my tires rotated front driver
side tire. After about a week or so, the wife
noticed the noise.

Speaker 6 (44:14):
I checked it.

Speaker 5 (44:15):
There was three lugs that was real hand loose, and
I took it back to the place and told them
I want them to check it out, and asked them
to check the lug itself, the lugnuts to make sure
they're not warped, and also my rim. They checked it.
They said the three that was loose, I had hand

(44:37):
tiled with a socket to like sixty pounds, and the
other two they said read ninety pounds. And they tightened
all of them to make sure everything was okay and
good faith. They said, you know, I could have free
oil change for three of them, and I said, okay,
but my concern was with that damage and my will

(44:59):
bearing or the hub or shoot, you would probably one
hundred miles less than one hundred miles going to class
them back.

Speaker 3 (45:07):
No, it's not gonna ruse. No, it won't ruin the
hub or the bearing. You might get some damage from
the wheel itself, but no apps for the wheel bearing
and the hub and the rotor and the brakes and
everything like that.

Speaker 4 (45:23):
You're a there.

Speaker 3 (45:24):
There's not gonna be any type of damage. It's just
gonna The only thing that is probably gonna be damage
is gonna be maybe the wheel holes in the wheel
because it's an aluminum wheel. I'm assuming, uh that's but no,
it's not gonna the wheel, hub and bearing, everything like that.

Speaker 4 (45:43):
It'll be perfectly fine. They're they. I'm glad that they took.

Speaker 3 (45:46):
Care of you, But no, you'll be that that that bearing,
hub will be perfectly fine.

Speaker 7 (45:52):
I sure appreciate it. I just want to double check now.

Speaker 4 (45:55):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (45:55):
Thank you for the phone call, and I appreciate you waiting.
All right, everybody, Uh listen, I'll be back next week
to answer all of your car questions. I appreciate all
the phone calls, I really do, and everybody. I hope
everybody has a great weekend. I'll be back next weekend
to answer all of your car questions. Like I just said,
and enjoy your week. Thank you for listening. You're listening

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
