Speaker 1 (00:04):
On the road again.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Just can't wait to get on the road again.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
You have.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Good afternoon, and welcome to the car.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
Show on fifty five kr C the talk station. I'm
Dane Donovan taking all of your car questions. The number
to call five one three seven fifty five hundred. That
number again, five to one, three seven fifty five hundred.
It's a very gloomy, soggy day. It is a great
(00:52):
day to be a duck, or there for a great
weekend to be a duck.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
I don't think I've seen this on and quite some time,
although you know what, I take that back, I did
get to see it yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
I had the the.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Opportunity to play in the All Saints golf outing yesterday.
As some of you may know, uh here in the
Cincinnati area. Uh, All Saints had their golf outing. My
all three of my boys go to All Saints and
Donovan's Auto entire Center of course sponsor a whole and
you know, my business partner Kyle and I and two
(01:27):
customers of ours, great friends, colleagues and great friends of
ours played with us and last year we actually won
the tournament. We won the outing and uh it was
it was the first time that we.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Played in it, we won it. And uh, man, we.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Had such high high hopes to win it, uh yesterday
and uh that was not the case.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
For those of you out there that are golfers, you know,
they have things that you could do. You can buy
mulligans and this and that, and unfortunately we did not win.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
We didn't even come close.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
We shot a sixty two and the winners came in
at a fifty one. So for those golfers out there
that was that was quite quite a defeat. So but hey,
we got out there, we were able to get it in.
As soon as we got done, it started raining and
I haven't seen the sun since. And but it was
(02:24):
all for a great cause, to raise money for all
Saints boosters and those of you. Again, my boys go
to All Saints and great school. We really love it
and it.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Was a good, good time.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
You know, I don't get out of work too often,
and so but all of our everybody at Donovan's did
a phenomenal job.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
That did a great job.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
And it's nice to know that, you know, we can
Kyle and I can step away for a day and
everybody can do their job. And it's it's really exciting.
And I can't thank my employees and everybody there at Donovan's.
They did a phenomenal job yesterday.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
And you know, it's.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Nice to step back for for for a little bit
of time, and and they all took up the charge
and uh we're able to.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Take care of the the daily tasks.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
And uh again I really do appreciate, uh, the all
of my employees and allowing us to kind of step
away for a day and enjoy some sun and some golf.
So again, then I'm gonna call five one three hundred
that number again, five one three.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Fifty five hundred.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Again, it is a kind.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Of a gloomy day, but it's an exciting weekend here
in Cincinnati. Right We've got the Flying Pig Marathon, which
is very exciting.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
I am volunteering tomorrow uh and helping. Uh.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
One of my co workers that works for me, His
brother is the CEO of the Flying Pig, and he
gave his brother the task of working a beer booth.
So he said, hey, can you volunteer and work a
beer booth for me? So I said, I can do that.
My doctor might not be too happy about it, but
I will do that for you and help and volunteer.
But so it's all for a good cause. I you know,
(04:16):
And I'm an avid runner myself. I haven't run any marathons,
and I said I was gonna do it in twenty twenty.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
I was gonna do it.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
And then all of a sudden, COVID hit and everything
just came to a screeching halt. And I still continue
to run. But we have made a pack that we're
that we're gonna do it next year. I'm gonna volunteer
this year. I'm gonna run it next year.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
I don't know that. I don't think I can do
the whole thing, but I'm gonna do the half.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
But I have a great customer of ours, gentlemen, great customer,
and he's seventy eight years old, seventy eight years old,
and he runs. I mean, this guy, he runs every
ten days, every ten days, rain, snow, sleet, shine, hot, cold,
(05:06):
doesn't matter. This gentleman runs every ten days and he
runs for three hours. And I said, well, okay, well,
I said, do you I said well, and he said
you gotta come out and run with me.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
I said, okay, well, I said, are you jogging?
Speaker 4 (05:17):
He goes, oh, no, I'm I'm I'm an I'm running
the whole time, like I'm forty years old, and I'm like,
I don't think I could keep up with you. And
I'm like, but he goes, Dan, I've been doing it
my whole basically since high school.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
And he goes, why don't.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
You how about we uh will work together this year
to run the Flying Pig next year. So next year
he'll be seventy nine, So we're gonna I'm gonna work
this year on uh on doing that. It's always been
something that I've wanted to do, but you know, uh,
with all the work and and and the wife and
(05:53):
all the kids and the sporting events and everything like that,
you know, it's it's it's hard to focus on yourself
all the you know. But I'm gonna make it a
pact that twenty twenty five I work on moving forward
to you know, going out and gonna do this marathon.
If it's seventy eight year old, seventy nine year old
man can do it, I can do it, right. And
so for those of you out there who thinking about, ah,
(06:14):
should I do it?
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Should I not do it? If anybody wants to train
with us and go out running with us. I'd love to.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
It's a little bit more fun when you've got a
group of people that you can run with, right, And
like I said, I typically will run either outside or
by myself, but man, if I could have a group
of people, I think it'd be I think it'd be
a lot more enjoyable.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
I mean, I'll listen to music or whatnot.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
But you know, over time, the task just becomes kind
of daunting, right, And it's just like you know.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
It loses its loses its pleasure. I guess too. But
I enjoyed. I like getting out there and doing it.
So but anyways, we've.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
Got that, and then of course we've got the Kentucky
Derby this afternoon. I grew up my grandmother would take
me to the River Downs, which some of those for
those of you who are older, you know what River
Downs is, And we used to go there during the weekdays.
And and uh, I just grew up watching horse racing
(07:16):
and I enjoy it, love it, and we're gonna get
the opportunity to watch it this afternoon. So uh it's
a busy weekend and uh so, uh but here I
am to take your car questions and I'm gonna call
five one three, seven four nine fifty five hundred. That
number again, five one, three, seven nine fifty five hundred.

why I do it. And I want to help you

(09:45):
correctly fixed, honestly fixed, at an honest price, and get
you back out on the road, whether it's you, your wife,
your kids, whatever it is. You know, as a family
man myself, you know, I want to make sure that
my wife and my kids can get to their destination
safely and not break down side of the road. And
(10:06):
that's my goal, that's my responsibilities to get you back
out on the road, and you know, fix your car
and I love doing so that you know I'm here
on Saturdays from one to two to answer your car questions.
And again, you may not want to call the show,
and that's fine. You can always call me at my

I can't thank everybody, all my technicians and my employees
there at Auto Foreign and all the locations, but they've
done an outstanding job and we're doing we're turning the

(10:49):
call me at the shop as well. I'm there Monday
through Friday eight to five point thirty. I may step
out to run an errand or do something. Just take
a message, just say hey, can you you know, listen
to Dan on the radio show. I have a quick
question more and welcome to call me and I'd be
more happy to help you out.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Or swing by.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
I had a gentleman that called me, I believe last
Saturday or maybe two saturdays ago, and he swung by
and I was able to take a look at his vehicle,
and I haven't heard back from him yet, so we're
but you know, if you're in the area, you're welcome
to swing by as well. So all right then I'm
gonna call five one, three, seven, five hundred.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Let's go to the phones. We have Jim, Hey, Jim,
welcome to the car show. How can I help?
Speaker 7 (11:30):
Great show? Dan, glad you do this.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (11:33):
Got a got of trouble with my truck. It's an
eighty eight Chevy Silverado with a three point fifty and
it's got a spark issue. It just kind of died
on me. And I replaced the coil and the ignition module,
the ignition cap and rotor, and I don't have spark.
Does that have a fuseable ignition or a fusible link
(11:54):
in the ignition?
Speaker 4 (11:55):
So okay, so you replaced running by me, you said
you were place the coil.
Speaker 7 (12:01):
The coil which is outside of the correct it's not
not in the cap and it's I replaced the ignition
module and the distributor cap and rot or. They were
they were rough looking. It's got they need to be replaced,
but just don't have any spark won't fire when I
turn it over.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
The module that the that modules inside of the distributors
is correct?
Speaker 7 (12:23):
Correct?
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Man, if I would what I would reco Have you
looked in just replacing just getting a whole new distributor
assembly itself.
Speaker 7 (12:37):
Maybe I should have done that.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Possibly, So typically what we do is because there's there's
other things that can be going on. Typically what I
would recommend is just to replace the entire distributor assembly.
If you're not getting spark, it's it's due to that distributor,
which I would now here's the problem with it being
an eighty eight. I would try to of course, you know,
(13:02):
listening to the show, you know I always talked about
buying original equipment. Now with it being an eighty eight,
you're not gonna be able to that's probably not gonna
be available. But what I would encourage you to do
is try to find the highest quality part that you can,
because a lot of times the distributors are you know,
they're not manufactured here, and they're made with cheap parts.
(13:26):
And you put one in, you go, Dan, I put
a whole distribut assembly in and it's still not working.
If you're not getting spark, it's I would replace the
entire distributor assembly.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Okay, Okay, that's what I would recommend.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
Now, I would find the highest quality part that you can.
Now I'm supposed to be you know, that's going to
be difficult, and again I'm supposed to be interviewed on
the news here on Monday talking about, you know, the
tariffs and what it's going to cost and as far
as car repairs and whatnot.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
So I would do it soon.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
But I would recommend just getting a whole new distribute assembly.
Speaker 7 (14:04):
Okay. I appreciate that it's obsolete, so you're right that
you know it's not available. The dealer doesn't have that.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
So now I you know, I believe it or not,
I'm I've got cars that are five years old that
I can't get parts for five years old.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Wow, I mean it's it's unbelieve.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
I had a Dodge truck in It's like a twenty
sixteen Dodge Ram. Okay, the it needed no it had
no power steering, well, the power stream was electronic, okay,
and the front differential, the axle on this thing broke
and it needed a front differential as well. So this
(14:41):
this gentleman goes to Xavier as a baseball player. This
is a twenty and sixteen Dodge Ram and it needed a again,
no power steering because it's electronic, and it needed a differential.
And it was almost nine thousand dollars to fix this
gentleman's truck. Now I could get the part, but they
were on back order, which means, you know, they can't
(15:02):
produce enough of them. So I couldn't tell the gentleman
when he was gonna get his parts. And that's on
a sixteen.
Speaker 7 (15:08):
So geez, could I take a jumper lead and jump
it to the distributor to see if there's a you know,
a cut in the wire or something you know?
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Yeah, I mean, I mean, have you checked to make
sure that you're you know.
Speaker 7 (15:24):
I just need to check the fuses too. Someone said,
check the fuses, could possibly could be a bad fuse.
I don't know if that's.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Yeah, yeah, you know, yeah, yeah you could. I'll be
honest with you though.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
I mean, when I got into the industry, distributors were
kind of almost obsolete at that point.
Speaker 8 (15:42):
So right, but uh no you could, Okay, right, thank you, right,
take care, bye bye already again taking your phone numbers
or taking your phone I was taking your phone calls
and number to call five one three seven four nine
fifty five hundred, that number gain five one three seven
four nine fifty five hundred again.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
You know.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
Obviously when I got into the business, carburetors were a
thing in the past and never saw them, and then
distributors were being phased out when I started, so we
I did work on some cars with distributors, but didn't
by the time I got into the full swing of
(16:22):
car repair, it was all it was all fuel injected.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
So so all right, let's go back to the phones.
We have Rob. Hey, Rob, welcome to the car show.
How can I help?
Speaker 7 (16:33):
Hey?
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Hey, thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 8 (16:34):
So I've got a.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Two thousand and five accord. The family hand me down.
It's gonna be my my teenage daughter's car. I've spent
quite a few months getting already. It's you know, done
all the maintenance stuff. A very minor annoying thing for
me is it has an auto window, you know, down
(16:56):
and up, and when you when you pull it up,
it goes all the up and it goes back down
just you know, two inches. It hits it and goes
back down, and I read up on it and it's like,
you know, it's probably the window regulator. So you know,
I wasn't that worried about it. There's a work around.
So in the meantime, we had a minor neighbor accident.
(17:19):
So it has a brand new door from a junk yard,
same exact issue. You know, new window regulator, new used
window regulator. So you know, I watched a couple of
YouTube videos and you got to turn the key this
time and do this and pull it out and reprogram
it and no success. Just wondering if you have any
tips on that.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
I was gonna say, I mean every kind of year
making models a little different.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
I mean.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
I don't have any off the currently, off the top
of my head, I don't, but it needs to be programmed.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
It's just not it's hitting and it's going back down.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
So, like you said, sometimes, I mean sometimes my guys too,
it takes them four or five times before they get
it right.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
I mean are you are you local?
Speaker 8 (18:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Yeah, yeah, I mean.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
If you wanted, I mean, you're more than welcome, and
you know I'm here to help you out.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
I won't charge you.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
If you have time bring it by, I'll have one
of my guys do it for you. Uh.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
It wouldn't be that.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
Yeah, that I appreciate that.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
That that's very generous.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
It's just you know, it's it's one of those like
you know, if you don't have the Honda module the hookup,
and you know, there's all these workarounds, you know, like well,
you know, do this and they have to be within
three seconds and then do this and then seven times
over and yeah, yeah, it's like you just get frustrated.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Believe me.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
I mean my guys do it every day, and they
still get frustrated, and they they're still looking up things
and and I mean the other day, I mean we
I mean we're trying to reset an oil light for
Evolvo the other day and it took like ten times
before we you know, and we had all of the
instructions in front of us. It just took that many
times before we could get it just right. But as
(19:06):
far as off the top of my head, you know,
I don't have an answer for you. But if you
ever wanted to swing by, I could get one of
my guys to do it for you.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
I'd be more happy to help you out.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
No, No, I appreciate that it's not that big that
you I don't kind of want to tick up those guys,
but I just was wondering, like, oh, you know, like
I've done that, but you know, it's probably more behind
the guy, you know. But but but other than that,
you know, it should be a good a good car
for a sixteen year old.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
So absolutely it works out.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
All right, Well, thank you, all right, all right, take
care bye bye.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Yeah, that's the thing.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
It's just like every year making model has a different procedure.
I mean, you could, you know, we could talk about
an five and the procedure as to what you need
to do, and then all of a sudden, O six
is a different procedure.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
I mean, to.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Reset an oil light on a Toyota on the older toyotas,
you had to have it on trip A, hold the tripometer,
turned the key on and it would reset. And then
newer models it was trip B you had to have
it on trip B, returned the key on and it
would reset. Some toootos you gotta have it on the
odometer and turn the key onto, you know.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
So every year making model.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
It's it's uh, there's a different procedure.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
So so I'm sorry I couldn't help you out per se,
but I mean I'd be more happy to help them
out to swing by. Well, we'll get it right. It's
not a big deal.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
So but all right, taking your phone calls and I'm
gonna call five one three seven four nine fifty five hundred.
That number GAT five to one three seven four nine
fifty five hundred.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Coming up.
Speaker 4 (20:37):

Speaker 6 (21:13):
The one place for Sean Hannity weekdays at three oh
six fifty five KRC, the talk station.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
Taking your car questions. The number call five.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
One three seven four nine fifty five one hundred. Again,
it's a very soggy day here in Cincinnati. It's almost
like we live in Seattle. I've never been to Seattle,
but I heard it rains a lot. And again I
started the beginning of the show that you know, it's
a great day to be a duck. So but anyways,
(21:44):
that's not what we're talking about the weather. We're here
to talk about your car. So all right, getting the
number to call five one three seven fifty five hundred,
let's go back to the phones. Uh, it says here, Uh,
this is my father in law, Paul. Hey, Paul, welcome
to the car show. How can I hell?
Speaker 5 (22:00):
Sir?
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Hey Dane, how you doing now? I wanted to get
your I wanted to get your thought on you know,
my twenty fourteen Siena. I was one through some records.
I'm getting ready to hit two hundred thousand on it,
and I had a tune up at one hundred and eighteen,
and I had a transmission flush at one thirty three,
(22:26):
and I'm wondering with it getting ready to hit two hundred.
Do you think I should be looking at at doing
both of these?
Speaker 1 (22:36):
Great question?
Speaker 4 (22:37):
So the tune up, No, so you have a you
have a platinum plug in there. Typically toyotas about one
hundred and ten one hundred and twenty thousand miles is
when it's due. So if it was done at one eighteen,
I think we're still good. Maybe it do the tune
up maybe at like two twenty because it's kind of
expensive because you got to take the intake off and
(22:58):
eything like that.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
But what we should look into is the fluids.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Yes, I don't know that we need to do a
flush currently, but maybe like a draining fill. I think
we need to look at that. What about obviously don't
have your records in front of me. What about coolant?
When do we have a record of when.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
That was done?
Speaker 3 (23:17):
At the same time at one three, I think got
a pulling system was flushed.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
Okay, yeah, so I mean if we did the transmission,
I think transmission and coolant, we don't necessarily have to.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Do it two hundred.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Maybe again at the tune up, maybe kind of hit
it all at you know, you know, do or if
you want to break it up, we could do it.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
But I think.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Power steering, well, want break fluid. We need to do
break fluid. That's what we're supposed to do that every
thirty thousand miles, So that would be something that we
should do that power steering fluid. You know, we don't
have to I mean, you know, but it's a good
thing to do.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Yeah, I know, like I said, hitting two hundred, I
want to keep up on the maintenance because I wanted
to run. I want to you know, I want to
run the three hundred.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
It'll get there.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
So I just yeah, I was just wondering about about
the you know, going through my record the transmission and that,
well let's do.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
I would say like if I say, you know, maybe
at two hundred, we do the fluids, we do the
break fluid, transmission, we do the coolant. Break fluid should
be priority number one, the transmission fluid and coolant. I
would say break fluid number one, maybe trans fluid, transmission
fluid second, then currant, then the tune up.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Okay, okay, so yeah, things right, it runs great, you know,
it's it's clean. But like I said, I just you know,
was was wondering about these, you know, these maintenance things
because I didn't want anything to come up and you know,
wanted to stay up on it.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Yeah it's I mean, it's no, no, you've done a
good job. It's cleaning.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
So I think, uh, break fluid. You'll notice a huge
difference in the break response on that. Doing that, and
then on the transmission, I don't want to do a
transmission flush.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
I just want to do a draining fill.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
At two hundred thousand miles, a flush might be a
little bit evasive, it might be a little bit harsh
on the transmission. So you know that your car probably
holds about fourteen quartz transmission fluid. A flush is again,
toyotas don't have filters, they have screens, and you know,
we really don't want to force a bunch of dirt
(25:35):
through that screen when we're doing a flush.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
But if we do a draining field where we're just
draining the pan.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
We're only introducing about four or five quarts of fluid,
so it's not you know, she's It would be like,
you know, taking somebody who just had open heart surgery
and then turn around and tell them to run a marathon.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Right, it's gonna be a little bit.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
It's gonna be hard for that heart to keep up,
so we don't want to do we treat it with
a little bit of a There are some medicine, so
doing a draining fill would be good. And then the
coolant and the transfer of the coolant and the tune
up probably two twenty would be fine.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Okay, okay, changing good.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Changing the walls the most important, you know that, And
I do that leg so yeah, that's why it's in
great shape.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
Okay, dang, Yeah, I have a good one.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Thank you, bye bye bye.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
All right again taking phone calls and I want to
call five one, three, seven, four, nine, fifty five hundred.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Let's go to the phones. We have Bill, Hey, Bill,
welcome to the car show. How can I help?
Speaker 5 (26:37):
Hello, Dane, you do a great job.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Thank you enjoyed listening to.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
You, said your calling from your calling from Tampa Tampa. Yeah,
I get yeah, man, I'd love to be there right now.
Love Florida.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
Oh okay, yeah, radio. Yeah. My grandson's got an old
five Corolla and just to check out light is on.
I don't know how long I'm spent on. But he
took me to a mechanic and they say they've got
a lean code, and I wonder what you thought about that?
Speaker 3 (27:09):
All right?
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Says here it's a two thousand and five Toyota Corolla.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
Correct.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
All right.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
So here's what I want you to do, a very
very common problem, very pretty inexpensive.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
Here's what I'd like for you to do.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
So on a lien code, basically that means there's too
much air being introduced to the engine and not enough.
You know, the cars have to have the right air
and fuel mixture, right, So on a lean condition, that's
basically too much air is going.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
Into the engine. Okay, so there's only two things going on.
What I would tell you to do.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
The cheapest thing that to start with is you have
what's called a mass airflow sensor.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Okay, okay. This sensor tells the car how much air
is going into the engine. Okay.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
Dirt, debris and stuff can get into that mass airflow sensor.
So you can buy a five dollars can of what's
called mass air flow Sensor cleaner. Okay, this is something
that you can do. Your grandson can do. You take
the air you just take the air box off, you know,
just a couple of snaps. You just it's very easy
to do. It's like almost check. All you gotta do
is it's just like checking your air filter. Okay, you
(28:15):
pop the air box off and you get a can.
It's like five bucks and it might be nine bucks,
i you know. And it's called mass airflow Sensor cleaner.
And there's a little sensor in there. You'll be able
to see it.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
You'll see it.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
It's right on top of the air box. You'll see
about three you'll see like three wires going to a
sensor that's being held in by two screws. It's on
top of the air box where the air filters located.
And you want to take that mass airflow sensor cleaner.
And we're gonna just take a cant. You're gonna spray,
not the whole can, just you know, like you would
you know, clean your windocks in your windows, right, just
(28:48):
you know, spray it a couple of times, two or
three times.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
Let it dry.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
Okay, close up that air box started up, it might
kind of choke a little bit and kind of act
a little funny at the beginning.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
Okay, let's try that.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
If the if the light returns or you still the
light doesn't go out and it continues, there's what's called
an intake manifold gasket. Now, these corollas are very they're
known and very common to have these gaskets fail. Now,
when they fail, basically it's a rubber gasket and it
just gets flattened out.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Okay, okay.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
So typically in colder conditions you see this a lot
up here in like Cincinnati area, right when it's cold,
we see a lot of this because obviously when.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
These engines are cold, things contract.
Speaker 7 (29:35):
Right.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
So is he down in Florida with you or just yes? Okay, okay, So.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
Again, I know, you know, sometimes it can get down
in the thirties and forties down there, so.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
The intake manifold gasket will flatten out. And what happens
is that, you know, the the mass airflow sensor will say, hey,
this is how much air is going in, But then
it's getting sucked in through that gasket because it's bad.
So if you've cleaned the mass airflow sensor and it's
still acting up, then we need to replace the intake
(30:09):
manifold gasket. And it's it's pretty inexpensive.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
It's I think we charge like up here, it's like
four or five hundred bucks, and it's you got to
remove the intake, replace the rubber gasket, tighten it back up.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
You're good to go.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
Now, there is a possibility that the mass airflow sensor
itself is bad. Okay, but let's clean it. Let's do
the gasket because that is a very very common, high
failed part, and it would be cheaper because the mass
airflow sensors are expensive. Right, So let's clean the mass
airflow sensor. Still acting up or the light won't go out,
(30:44):
let's replace the intake manifold gasket. If it's still acting
up or the light's still on, then we're gonna need to.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Replace the mass airflow sensor.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
Now, if you've listened to the show, I'm gonna tell
you please do not buy a cheap app market mass
airflow sensor.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
They are expensive. I'm talking sometimes three four, five hundred dollars.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
They're expensive. And it's a cheap, little plastic part, and
you go, I'm just going to buy the cheapest one.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Do not do that. Spend the money on a good one.
Speaker 4 (31:16):
So you can either buy one at the dealer that's
going to be your most expensive option, or buy one
by a manufacturer called denzod and Denzo that's the original
equipment manufacturer for Toyota. Okay, okay, so clean it still
acting up? Replace the gasket still acting up. It's gonna
probably the mass airflow sensor. But you know, the cleaning,
(31:39):
it's going to be the cheapest. Then the intake manifold
gasket again, which is a high failed part. And then
if it's still acting up that but call me back
and give me an update. I'd love to help you out.
Speaker 7 (31:49):
Oh it's sane.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
Do you know an outlet for Denzo that's reliable other
than buying it at the dealer or just is it's
easier to go to the dealer?
Speaker 4 (31:57):
No, of course it'd be easier to go to the dealer,
you know, and you're gonna buy that part and it's
gonna be a Toyota box, but you're gonna open up
and it's gonna say Denzo on it so so to
avoid the paying the additional cost. UH as far as
an outlet go, I mean you could. I don't know
what I mean. I'm sure you having a Riley down there,
(32:23):
You're gonna probably just have to find a supplier that
supplies Denzo.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Napa sell Denzel Napa might they might, but Denzo's where
is where you want to be at? Okay? Gotcha? All right?
All right, well, thank you.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
Very absolutely enjoy that warm weather down there. Thank you
for the call, and I appreciate you listening. Okay, thanks,
all right, take care.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
