Speaker 1 (00:06):
Let's talk Giants football, brought to you by Curtis lumber
your local full service home center and lumberyard. And now
from the New York Giants pre and postgame show, it's
John Schmelk.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Happy Friday boys.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Yeah, honey, John, do you have to go to Detroit
this weekend?
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Uh? No, I will not be in Detroit this weekend.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
So where do you anchor it from the studio? Do
you set up at the where do you anchor it?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
I will, we will probably. I mean I have to
talk to Tiki about it. That. Actually, I think we'll
probably go into the city for the one o'clock games because, uh,
you know, we like being in the same room as
our producer. So I think we'll probably go downtown.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Is it Is it awkward parking next to Tiki?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Why?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Well, I think he's got a super nice cot.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
We assume he's got some bly or something.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Dude, I am parking on the street. I'm not sure
where Tek he's parking his his vehicle, but I am
trying to parallel park on on Hudson Street in downtown
at that so that is not a problem.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
John. You have to be shocked that the Bills lost
last night.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Is Actually it's funny. I pass out at like the
start of the third quarter on my couch. I woke
up at two o'clock in the morning, so I'm actually
it's funny. I'm rewatching the game right now on on
NFL Network. But yeah, I mean, and it goes back
to it, like the Bills there, I mean, the Texas
office is in bed all year. Guys, they give up
that many points. I mean, I'm not surprised that they
(01:31):
trouble scoring. The Texans defense is really good, but that
that that Bills defense that could easily prevent them from
from really making a lot of noise this year. And
it's funny. It's a huge week. You know, the Bills lose.
It's a huge week for the Chiefs. You know, they're
five and five. They're baking a Colts team that's really good.
That is like a super important game for them. The Ravens,
(01:53):
they're only five and five, even even for a team
like the Lions, who you know, we're obviously big favorites
against the Giants, but the start today, they're not in
a really important games are important thing.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
When I don't have the second part of my schedule.
But the Rams have a bit have a big game,
I think coming up on me.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Yes, the Rams have the bucks, I believe. Yeah, that's
a that's another game.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
So John, are we all in with the Texans' latest uniforms?
Those were good uniforms last night, right, I feel like
you need to.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Wear those only around Christmas? There? They look like the
Houston Santa Clauss. Is there something like that? Like? I
I mean it's like the bright, shiny chrome candy red.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Yeah, I don't know. I loved it.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
I love that? Is it all right? Christmas decorations at
the Giants headquarters right now?
Speaker 2 (02:43):
No, those won't go up until after Thanksgiving.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Yes, they're good, like everybody should.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Over here at the iHeart off like everyone should do it.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
A couple of these street teamers went crazy over at
the iHeart office. We got a tree up already, John,
kissing us off ornament.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
You know, I have the sing Thanksgiving is an awesome holidays,
And I feel like you're really showing a Thanksgiving by
putting up the Christmas tree before you actually have Thanksgiving.
I think it really is set up perfectly. You know,
you have Thanksgiving, you have a free weekend after that.
You know, I still think in no Lem might be
a little bit early, but I think it's acceptable. You know,
the Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving, put some college and
(03:19):
pro football on deck at the house, get the trade.
I think that's the way to go.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Quick made the point that there's nothing to sell for Thanksgiving.
That's why we don't. That's why they skip it down.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Not that that's actually a good point, because it was depressing.
I will I went into Target. It was like two
days after Halloween, and you could see them tearing down
all the Halloween stuff and putting up the Christmas stuff,
and I'm like, you.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Guys have got to be kidding the John Schmelk listened
to him here and picks one of six Giants. Pre
and postgame show, Schmelk give us the full story on
abdul Carter and where's he at now?
Speaker 2 (03:53):
He will be playing this week. They dealt with the
off the fields that issue last week.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
What is he accused of doing?
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Yeah, the report out there and there are multiple people
that reported this was that he fell asleep and miss
day walk through because he was sleeping.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
What was the red light treatment he was getting?
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yes. Abdul Carter then goes on Twitter and says, no,
I wasn't sleeping, I was getting treatment. So look, I
don't think anyone knows exactly what happened, whatever the case
might be. You can't miss walk throughs, you can't be
late for meetings, and there are other reports do that
he had been late for a number of meetings this year.
So look, that's that's the thing as a rookie you learn,
right sometimes in college, if you're the star, he can
(04:35):
kind of do whatever you want. So that's something that
you have to lock down early. And all these guys
have to be held to a high standard. And I
think that's what the giants are trying to do with him,
and you know, I think that's where they're at and
hopefully the kid figures it out. Is he is very talented,
even if though the production isn't necessarily there in his
rookie year.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
But you wonder, like why didn't why didn't somebody go
send someone to go get him unless you wanted to,
you know, teach him a lesson because this is a
repeat offense. Why did anyone go get him?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
I mean maybe they didn't know where he was. I
mean that's possible too, right, Like like you know, like
there are little corners of the of the building here
where you can you know, find time and stuff like that.
I don't I don't know the answer to that question,
to be honest. Maybe he just missed the beginning and
they did find them and they got him and he
came out later on, like I have no idea, but
look that that's something that if you're a professional, you're
(05:25):
a professional. You have to treat it like a job.
And you know you guys aren't taking that storing.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Break, so right, you know what I mean, he's playing
this week, he'd better come out and perform and really
dazzle us.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Look, I think they've been waiting for it, and I
think you know, he's had a number of opportunities to
win one on one in a lot of these games,
the big third and tent. Last week, he was one
on one with a left tackle that frankly's not very
good and he wasn't able to win. So they need him.
He was a third overall pick. And you know, this
defense is designed to win rushing for and they have
(05:57):
not been able to do that consistently this year. One
of the reasons that defensive struggled.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Giants at Detroit Dart is back. Thibodeau is back. Is
that confirmed?
Speaker 2 (06:07):
I would not be positive about Jackson Dart. He has
not had a full contact practice yet, so he practiced
on Wednesday and thirty where both were non contact, So
he has not taken that next step in the progression yet.
It has to be today. I don't I'm not. I
would not put a stamp on that and say he's
definitely playing. I think we have to wait and see
(06:28):
how how today goes. If it's not him, it's going
to be Jameis So I think we have to see
how he proceeds through the protocol today and then you know, how,
how did the Giants win this game?
Speaker 3 (06:40):
They're they're ten point underdogs.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Yeah. Look every week and I can usually figure out
a path right for the Giants to figure out way
to win. And I think most mostly I've been right
this year. I think the Giants have been in and
and and been close in a lot of these games.
This is a tough one. The Lions are very good
on both sides of the ball.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
With the Bills, I think anything's possible.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
No, anything's possible. But I think the Texans are also
a better team than than the Giants, right, now and
so lines are a top five offense. They're basically a
top five defense. But you know between I think our
top seven offense, top five defense, whatever it is. They're
explosive in the run game. You know, this could be
a big Jimmy or Gibbs game. The Giants struggle to
stop the run still and he's a guy that can
(07:23):
turn an eight yr run into an eighty yard run.
They're gonna play press type man. So these Giants receivers
and you know they're wrong. A lot of backups out there.
They're gonna have figure out way to win one on one.
So it's a it's just a very very It's gonna
be a tough game, all right.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
John Schmelg, part of the pre and post game show
here in picks one of the six Giants lines at
one o'clock real quick. Who do you like, Philly or Dallas.
It's in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
I'm waiting for the for the ball to drop for Philly.
I mean, they're just not playing well, but they keep
winning games. The difference is that their defense might now
might be the best in football, or at least the
top three defense in football. Like it's phenomenal. It's very
very very good, but their offense has just not been
very good. So I think the Cowboy defense, believe it
(08:08):
or not, I think it's going to be continue to
get a little bit better with other new additions. So
I don't think Philly's gonna score a ton, But can
the Philly defense hold Dallas to like under twenty four.
If they can, then they can win. But if Dallas
gets around like twenty four points, twenty seven points, I
think Dallas could win that game.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Philly at Dallas. That's one of the feature games at
four twenty five. Hey, we'll be listening to you on Sunday.
We appreciate the time.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Thanks Johnny.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Always a pleasure boys talking on my
