Speaker 1 (00:01):
Who let's talk Giants football, brought to you by Curtis
lumber your local full service home center and Lumberyard. And
now from the New York Giants pre and postgame show.
It's John Schmelt.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
On Giant schmelt It's the recording end.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Two and eleven. Giants are two and eleven seasons over.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Good morning, gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Thanks, thanks for getting up for us, Johns. I know
it wasn't easy, no, I mean, I mean I.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Was up for my daughter and you guys are next.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
You appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
Giants blown out by the Patriots thirty three point fifteen.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
It wasn't even that close.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Where why was I My first question is why was
abdu Carter bench to start the game.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Do we know.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
There was? The Giants would not specify in the postgame
press conference, as this follows the same pattern as two
weeks ago. Oh, we'll find out through some type of
week at some point this week. Those are report last
night that he was late or amidst some type of
team activity during the week. I don't know what that means,
but apparently it's another deal where he wasn't where he
was supposed to be to have dual Carter's credit. He
(01:16):
basically took the heat after the game, talking to the media, said, look,
I made a mistake. I let my team down. I
can't let that happen. He was disappointed in himself, so
I'll give him credit for that. But guys, this is like,
you know, we're in week thirteen here, and I know
he's a rookie, but like that stuff has to stop
and he needs to grow up. He's one of the
giants best defensive players and you can't have it.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
What was his reputation in college.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
There wasn't a whole lot out there. There was something,
you know, whispers of immaturity and stuff like that, but
nothing that would make a team hesitate from picking him.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
So John smelt the Giants pre and post game show.
You heard him last night. Giants lose thirty three to
fifteen at Gillette. Listen, Jackson dark has got to learn it.
Almost took his head off twice yesterday. John in the
first half.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yeah, it's funny. T Barber talked about that hit on
the postgame show. The second one wasn't too bad. He
was kind of on his way down his head got brushed.
That wasn't too bad. The first one looked bad, but
he got hit on the shoulder pad and land on
the shoulder pad, and Tiki didn't think that's as for
a football player, that's not really a hit that hurts.
(02:22):
And he answered a lot of questions about it in
the postgame show when you could tell he was getting
a little bit irritated about it, and he guys, look,
I played football. I'm gonna get hit. That's the way
I play. And you're basically you're gonna have to be a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
And we're talking about him making the I mean, you're
gonna have to find himself in those positions.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
You're gonna have to have two quarterbacks all the time,
two number ones.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Look on the player on the sideline. He was trying
to get the first down, but there probably was an
opportunity to either die or get down earlier. I don't
disagree with that. Look the way he talked after the game,
I think Giant fan just has one how to live
with those hits. It doesn't sound like on plays like
that he's gonna do much to avoid him. Is somebody
watching over young ho coup right now? That field goal attempt?
Speaker 3 (03:09):
What's that? John?
Speaker 2 (03:11):
All Right? So in the post game young Waykup basically
said he did that on purpose when he saw the
ball get put down. And I had never seen that before.
I don't even know. I don't even know what to calling.
It's not a missfield goal, it's not a block field goal.
It's kind of an afforded field goal.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
I don't know, but.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Yeah, I mean, basically, it's like when you're a bad golfer,
like like me, and you get your wedge stuck in
the in the ground before the ball. And he basically said,
when he's the the hole got put down, he thought
the ball was still moving a lot, so he tried
to stop the kick. He didn't think it would be
a good one or would be a bad kick. There
as the hold, I didn't see. I didn't see that
(03:57):
on the replay. But he basically said he stopped trying
to kick ball on purpose.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Base he saw a movie. Are we believing this?
Speaker 2 (04:06):
I mean he said it, I don't. I mean, he
said he has he's had to do something.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
He had an.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Emotional field goal kicker that was way terrible.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
All right, Giants for two and eleven after following the
Patriots thirty three fifteen, And I don't want to dwell
on it, but it sounded like some of the guys
aired their frustration in the locker room. What's the attitude
heading into the buy Yeah, well, I think.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
You said it at the Star right. It was thirty
three fifteen, But I felt that the Patriots wanted to
win that game by thirty points. They would have. They
just decided to run the clock out at the end
of the game instead. Uh, they really didn't try to
score much in the second half of this game. The
special teams were awful. They gave a kick return for
a touchdown, They a far return for a touchdown. Part
of me, they fumbled the ball on a kickoff. They
(04:51):
had that Boss Steel goal to your point, So, I mean,
I think the guys through thirteen games, you're two and eleven,
you're heading into the bye. I think guys are very
discouraged by the fact they cannot put a complete game together.
So I think something that came out. You hope they
come back, recharge after the buye and win four games
after the bye. With the Commanders, the Vikings, the Raiders,
(05:14):
and the Cowboys. You know, four teams that are not
playing great football. And I think that maybe Dallas and
those games are winnable. So I hope they come back
and they do better. But look, I do think there
was some level of discouragement in the locker room right now.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Have they have they gotta quit on, they gotta quit
on Cafta here, they're gonna quit on the coach.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
I haven't seen the super players quit, so I'm gonna
say no on that one. I think they're still gonna
play hard. I think they they played hard last night.
I just don't think they played well enough. So we'll
see me. But no, I would not expect this group.
It's tough, man.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
They should have more wins, as some of those games
were w's for them.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
But anyways, Yeah, by the way, and I think that
makes it doubly frustrating right where. I think they look
back and they're like, yeah, we could be so much better.
We think we're better than our record, but we're just not.
And I think that adds to the frustration. To your point,
I think you're exactly right.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
Well, smelk you, Tiki, Papa, You guys all sounded good
here on Picks one of six. Enjoy the weekend off
football this weekend for you.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
I cannot wait.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
No, thanks, Johnny, appreciate.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
It, man, I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
You got snow down there right now? No, not yet.
They said there was a chance of it, but the
school will open down time, so I think we'll be okay,
all right.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Lots of closures here, yeah, getting ugly up here.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
We'll see you later about all right, Stay think guys,
