Speaker 1 (00:03):
Good Christ.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Let's talk Giants football, brought to you by Curtis lumber
your local full service home center and Lumberyard. And now
from the New York Giants pre and postgame show, it's
John Schmelk.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Good morning, gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
You're making Halloween scarier over there at the Giants, making
me sad. What's going on?
Speaker 4 (00:26):
Hey? You doing? John?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Yeah, there wasn't much. There wasn't much unrehappy about that
game yesterday, that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
So for those of us who are watching their teams
at the same time, what happened in that game?
Speaker 1 (00:38):
John? Yeah, So, two weeks after the Giants really took
it to the Eagles, the basically the exact opposite happened yesterday.
The Eagles ran up ran the ball well for the
first time all year. They had gone five straight games, guys,
heading into that game without rushing for more than ninety yards.
It was their longest streak since I think two thousand
and five. And they proceed the rush for two hundred
and seventy four two hundred and eighty six something like
(00:59):
that against the Giants yesterday, over eight yard to carry,
take one, uh yeah, sixty five yard touchdown run and
and the Giant defense really just fell apart. They only
forced one put the entire game, which obviously is not
good enough. And then on offense, Cam Skataboo against his
ankle rolled up on. I noticed it live that after
(01:23):
the play was over, his ankle was big in his
whole foot was basically sideways. So I did not so
I did not look at the replay. I'm told the
replay was just as bad as what I saw live.
He dislocated his ankle. He had that surgery last night
on it. And beyond that, we don't have any other updates.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
So, yeah, break, you know you popped that back in
the joint.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
It's a season is a season ending well, we don't
know yet.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
There there could be a fracture in addition to in
addition to the to the dislocation. We don't know what
the surgery. Usually you don't have surgery just for the dislocation,
So I don't know if the surgery was full or
either a fracture. If it was for ligament damage, they
did not make that announcement, but I would be very
surprised if this was not a season ending injury.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
John Schmelt the Giants pre and post game show talking
about the Giants lost to the Eagles yesterday. The Eagles
didn't play their receiver AJ Brown. Is he hurt or
are they Are they being cautious because he's trade bay John.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Look, he was on the injury report all week last
week with the hamstring injury. The odd part of that
is that he did not leave last week's game, and
he finished last week's game with no injury, and he
seemed to be fine. And then he had another one
of his cryptic Instagram posts. I think is that using
me but not using me or something like that Adam
Schefter had or before last week they said they are
(02:43):
not good, they're not interested in trading him. Other people
I've heard say and told me that other teams are
trying to trying to trade for him, whether or not
the Eagles pull the trigger. I can't imagine they'd actively
try to get worse in a year where they're trying
to win a super Bowl and so you know, getting
drafteds for him wuld' exactly helped the team this year.
(03:03):
So I would be surprised if they moved him. But
I'm sure teams are calling him knowing that there's been
you know, drama with him a lot and AJ Brown.
You know, a lot of the younger receivers have not
lived up to the old devil wide receiver label. AJ
Brown is certainly trying to keep that happy traditional lot.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
He's not getting the ball and they're not they're not
the Eagles aren't running it well and on top of that,
they're not throwing it to him. So you can see
his point.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
I can, But it was weird to put up the
Instagram post last week after he had like eight catches
for ninety something yards, Like why, like, why would you
post that on Monday after a game where you actually
did get the ball and you actually had a good game.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
So what about it? What about Jabell? Let's talk about that.
I think he should. I think he stays there. I
think this team is still gelling.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
We know you're going to tread lightly, but we were
talking about this before you came on, Like, like I
think that when it comes to the Giants to focus
now is what are we doing with the head coach?
I actually think he's earned another year, but he's had
another year three times now.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
But this is different sort of right.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
See, here's the thing and look that is going to
start being the discussion with with with fans and everything
like that. I get that, and and and the organization
has to make a decision after the year two the Giants,
the Giants woul announce contract lengths. But but the various
reports have indicated that when he signed, he signed the
five year deal. So this is the end of the
year four usually NFL teams. And again this is nothing
(04:28):
the Giants organizations have told me. But generally speaking, the
Giants and other NFL organizations don't like coaches going into
the lane duk years of their contracts. We should be
the fifth year of their contract, right, So in theory,
he would have to get a contract extension if he
wants to stay on beyond this year. So that that
that that's the question that that ownership will have to,
you know, have the discussion with themselves about you obviously,
(04:51):
like what he's done with Jackson Dart. I love him
as a guy. I think he's a very smart.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
I think he's me is there anything better better out there?
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Or there's always.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
A hot I mean yeah, I mean I think at
this point of the season, I don't think we know
who that guy is yet, right, Like, I don't think
you really know until a team makes a big playoff
run and there's the same success throughout a year. So
I don't think we have idea who that hot candidate
is going to be yet. But look, I think that's
a decision ownership is going to make. But is that
going to start being a source of conversation with the
(05:21):
reporters and the media and on fans and all that stuff. Yes,
but again, they's a good dude. I talk to him
every week. I'm not going there, but you're right that
that that that is going to be a source of conversation.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
Now moving ahead, John Schmelch herem here on picks one
of six during the Giants games, I have to god,
Daniel Jones might be legit. But now I think they're
going to be one and done in the playoffs. Hard
to ignore the Colts.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Why do you think they're going to be one and
done in the playoffs?
Speaker 4 (05:52):
Because I didn't believe it them. I just don't believe
what I make seven and one, I just don't believe them.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
I mean, the amazing thing is that they might get
the bye week. So even if they win one game
in the playoffs, you know what that means in the
AFT Championship game? Correct, whoa what the coach winning games?
And by the way, the AFC South stinks, So it
is very much a possibility that they figure out a
(06:19):
way to get to buy and be in the AFC
Championship Game this year. I was always a big Shane
Sikeing fan. He came over from the Eagles and he's
their head coach and his first year is with the
Colts with Anthony Richardson. It just it didn't look good.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Is that the team. Maybe she's gonna get all the
she's gonna get all the credit.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
That's the team with the owner on the sideline with
the clipboard.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Honestly, look, I think Daniel Jones has meshed with the coach,
Jonathan Taylor. People haven't realized this. He's like on pace
for two thousand rushing yards this year. He's been fantastic.
He's been awesome, and he's been great. I mean, just
look at his numbers. I don't have been in front
of it, but I bet he's close to a thousand
yards already, and they have a do He gets set
of wide receivers, their defense and doing an okay job,
(07:02):
and Daniel Jones is getting the ball where it needs
to go. So I'm throat for him. I'm happy for
him when they finished the season with one loss, probably
not but with a shock me. If they finished like
thirteen and four, No, that would not shock me.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
Well, and then you know, another big story out of
yesterday is the Jets getting there their first win. I
don't know, how do we feel about that? John excited?
Speaker 1 (07:24):
I mean, I'm happy for the organization, especially on a
day where Nick Mangold, I'm sure you told your booking
is this already? Who God who had just forty one
years old from from kidney disease passed away. I mean,
it's just awful. And for them to run them by
the way and front of you know, he's an offensive
line then I'm sure wherever he is he's smiling that
(07:44):
the Jets ran for two hundred and fifty yards in
that game, understanding the way he played offensive line. But look,
and you know, for a first time coach like Aaron Glenn,
you always like to see him get off the schneid
a little bit. But I you know, remember the Bengals
have a Cowboys sense, two of the worst defenses in
the league, So I wouldn't I won't need to see
the Jets offense do that against a real defense before
(08:06):
I get too excited about them.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
All right, that's John Spilt the Giants pre and postgame show,
noontime pre game for Week nine versus the Niners and
one o'clock kickoff.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Right, that's correct, And I would guess it's going to
be Mac Jones again. Brock Porty is not played with
that toe injury for like a month and a half,
so I'm thinking Mac Jones again. But both attract that
during the week on Giants.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
Dot com when we talked to you on Friday, we
want you in costume.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Okay, that will not be happening.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Well, we're gonna put you in costume.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
We're gonna tell our audience you're in a costume. Way,
thanks pleading, there he goes, appreciate it, guys, Take one
sick
