Speaker 4 (00:19):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Are you in Tennessee? Where are you this morning?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Now? I'm in I'm at home. I have a little
studio behind my house. Uh so I'm out here in
the studio talking to you guys, having that cup of coffee.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
But that in.
Speaker 5 (00:31):
Florida in Exonville, Johnny, Johnny van Zan, lead singer legendary
Southern rock band Leonard skinnerd the new album DVD Sellary
celebrating the fiftieth year concert that you did at the Ryman.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Tell us who's on this album with you guys?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Well, we got h oh guy that I don't amole,
Jelly Roll, Brett Smith from Dine Down, Marny Steing, my
brother Donnie, Uh, John Osborne from the Osborne Band country band,
who's just awesome, and uh of course all of us.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Well, what's brand from Shindown do on this?
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:08):
On this?
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Uh? Simple man?
Speaker 1 (01:10):
They recorded I know yeah, I was hoping that was
what it was.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, they did such an awesome job. You know they're
from John.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Yeah, uh yeah, so you know, so we got that
tie and uh, he's an amazing singer.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
You know, I just love that band. And Jolly Roll
has become a great friend of ours and big time
Skinnered fan. Of course my brother Donnie.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
You know, so I got to get him in here.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Man, you know, I love doing stuff with him.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
Of course Johnny Vans and from Leonard Skinner. That's an
interesting question. So what cover, what cover of a Skinnered
song has been the most successful? Would it be Shinedown?
Simple Man?
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Uh, it's a tough one.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, Well on the rock side, I would say, simple Man, Yeah,
would shine Down on the countryside. Dolly Martin didn't, so
did Why only's done? And uh so pretty pretty amazing.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Well I'm sorry to those two, but you're the only
free bird I need. I need.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
What is the what is the Gary Rosings and tie
into this Rhyman show?
Speaker 5 (02:18):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:18):
The fifty years?
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Well, you know Gary, this was he's one of the
founding members of course, Ronnie Allen and Ginn Green that
started Skinner and Gary. Uh a few years back started
having really bad, hard trouble. So he came off the
road and uh basically groomed Damon Johnson, who is playing
(02:41):
his parts now, and uh Gary would come out and
make special, you know, appearances with us, and uh man,
he was having a really bad team that week, and
uh we didn't he was going to be able to stand,
you know, and uh but he was a tough, tough
and uh so it was his last performance and an
(03:04):
amazing thing. You know, God works in mysterious ways. It
could have been, you know, not not.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
Filmed, and and here we are, we have it on film,
and it was an amazing night for us.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
You know the rhyme in order to wry it up
there in Nashville. If you, if you ever performed there
have been backstage. It's very human. So Gary myself met
Licking Donnie, my brother. We're all crammed in one little
old dressing room that looked like the bathroom, and we
were stepping over each other happened and telling you know,
(03:39):
old stories and just reminiscing about the good old days.
And so if I live to be a hundred of
old guys, it it'll be a night that I'll remember
and there's a great documentary out with the DVD and
CD and all the all the video stuff that we
put together. That's just amazing then, and it's pretty much
(03:59):
about here this really that comes along with us.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
Yeah, I go to my Leonard Skinner dot com. I
can grab the first single, Tuesday's Gone featuring jelly Roll.
So jelly Roll and a stamp of approval. I mean,
he's he's authentic because he's here's a jelly Roll saturation
happening right now.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
What's you take?
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (04:20):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (04:22):
When we did this, I really had never heard of him,
but I heard this guy jelly Roll. He's new upcoming
artists and he loves Leonard Skinner, raised and born on
it and uh you know his his saying is there's
Jesus in the South and then there's Skinner, and I'm
glad he puts more. Uh but uh, you know, I
(04:45):
went and I listened to a song and I told
told my manager's first single, and I went, I love
this guy. I love me about that. And he came in,
this very humble guy and now I'm watching this car
for him.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
So there you go.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
That's a treat.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
Johnny.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Tuesday's gone, He's he does Tuesday's Gone with you guys.
That's so cool.
Speaker 5 (05:06):
So what what is this? What what does the future
hold for you? What's your plan moving forward?
Speaker 4 (05:12):
You know, you know we uh.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
We just did a rock to country Tuesday night up
there in Tennessee with uh kid Rock and uh just
just out playing, man, spreading the word like we do
every summer. You know, our fans are four generations deep
now and uh, you know, I never get tired of
when we go into simple Man. He's all the older
fans and all the younger fans with that smile on
(05:37):
their face of loving that song. So we'll be out
there getting it. Man. We're heading to Europe this year.
We leave at the end of June, going over there
for about almost four weeks, seeing all the European fans
and uh uh coming back here. Man, got stuff to
storage for next year. So God willing, we'll be out
playing these great songs.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Hey, Johnny, Johnny, if you've been to the Kid Rock
White House in Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Oh no, I've yet, but you've heard about it.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
You've heard about it, right, Hey, man, he'll be a party.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
I thinking that I might not want to go there.
I may break out in the handcuffs.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
Good point, Reynard Skinner dot com for all the information
on the fiftieth. Thanks so much for the time, and
good luck out there.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
