Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's quite again.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
There it picks one O six. We're sitting here with
Richie Vagner of Judas Priest.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
Can't hear, and we've been keeping the listeners involved. We're
not zooming this. Richie was nice enough to call us
yes because idiots. Thank you, Richie, appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
No worries. Happy to be here. How's everyone doing today?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
We're good. Is your daughter's grandfather George Lynch?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yes he is, Yeah, dude, the guitar and news in
the family, you know, so she's in the next generation.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
It's Richie Foger of Judas Priest joined the band over
ten years now.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Right twenty eleven.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Did tell me what that felt like when you're getting
the call for Priest and joining the band. That must
have been incredible.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Well, it's one of those cliche things, you know. It
felt like someone was playing a trick, you know, someone
was playing a joke. The phone rings. Is the manager
for Judas Priest on the phone. They're asking if you
come down and meet the guys in audition, and you
think this isn't really you know, I think you spend
your life aspiring to be that good as those guys
(01:00):
that they're the guys that teach you how to write
songs indirectly and how to play. You copy their songs
and their style and you learn a lot from them,
but you don't imagine that you're going to be getting
a call one day to go down and potentially join
the band. So it was thought. I thought it was
a joke really, but it became very real, very quickly.
And yeah, that was fifteen years ago, so obviously you
(01:21):
know it's going well.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Nice judas Priest Alice Cooper at Spack. What's the order
of the performances and do you guys share the stage
at all, you and Alice or Priest to Alice or anything.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Well, it varies at different shows. Sometimes bands they flip flop,
so they alternate between you know, one night had done
this one night it would be us, for example, but
we're doing it differently. We did the first four shows,
Alice is doing the next seven shows. I don't know
how they came to that agreement. I think we do
three after that and then Alice does a few. But
(01:55):
if I mean when the fans come down, if they
get there about six o'clock, doors are always around six o'clock.
Corrosion of conformity go on first. Yeah, they're great, you know,
there's always been a great band. Great to see the guys.
They go on around six thirties. Then it's either Us
or Alice or Alice and Us and it's a great
night of metal and hard rock.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Awesome. It's Ritchy father guitarist for Judas Priest. Do you
have an Ozzie story? We've been asking Ozzie stories this year.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Let me see, let me see.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
I only.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
We played with Ozzie a few times over the last
fifteen years. I've been with a band, and I know
that the guys grew up with him, you know what
I mean. They come from the same part of England,
so there was definitely something in the water where they
were coming from to create that music. You know, I
only met them a couple of times. But he was always,
you know, a humble guy. For how influential he was,
(02:48):
he was always a humble guy. He never lost his roots.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
You know.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
I was always impressed by that.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
But you know, your father, your father in laws, and
you were kind of humble. You don't even realize how
good you are. That's what George Lynch said of you, Richie.
That's a pretty high compliment.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
George is very kind. I mean, he's a fantastic player too.
He's a legend, you know. When we go to Japan,
usually the fans are so great in Japan, they give
us little gifts and stuff. But since I've took my
daughter there and she's the granddaughter of George Lynn, so
I don't get any gifts anymore. She gets all the gifts.
So it's an honor really to kind of see what
he does, you know, close up and listen to how
(03:25):
he plays.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Richie Flagner of Judas Priest, we wish you the best
of luck on Saturday night. We really appreciate the time
this morning.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Thank you so much. Guys, really looking forward to it
and we'll see you soon.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
That's great, our pleasure. It's Richie Faargner. Quinny can't Tara
picks one.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
I'm six
