Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hollywood Royalty. Yes, legendary filmmaker, Emmy Award winning actor Rob Ryer, everybody.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
How you guys doing what's going on up there.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
And all the well, you know, we're wondering if you
talk to Jimmy.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
I just sent Jimmy, you know, I was just on
this show. We were on a show about four or
five days ago, four days whatever was one of the lessons,
and I just sent them an email saying, you know,
it's frightening, it's very disturbing what's happening now. I mean,
so we have to do something before. You know, it's
(00:35):
like they're trying to take us like state run media here.
You know, it's like, you know, it's they're silencing critics,
they're silencing people. It's very very scary. So yeah, I
just emailed.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Them this morning with what you just said. That makes
art and what you do even more important.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
That's true. Would you say that the fervor out there
is bringing your level of creativity to eleven?
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Well, I'm hoping it does. You know, we all want
it to be to be. Is by the way, you
know that that phrase this goes to eleven that's now
in the Oxford English Dictionary congratulations. So it's literally in
the lexicon.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
That's awesome, dude, you.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Can drob Reiner. We're talking about spinal tattoo. The end continues.
I there there's some are there's some touching, poignant moments
in this that's what I'm here.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
I heard even some sad stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Well there there there is some touching moments, and it's
it's weird because there's some there's a little bit in
the first one that we did, you know, many years ago,
and it's it's an odd kind of mix because you
don't ever see or satire in emotion there. They don't
like to play with each other, their enemies, they don't fight.
(01:51):
They fight with each other. But I always felt like
if you could find a way to get a little emotion,
a little feeling into it, it makes the thing more satisfied.
And I always looked at the relationship between Mike, you know,
between Nigel and and and and David, and that was
that's the basis for it. You see a little bit
of it in the first one, and we mind a
(02:12):
little bit more of it in the second one because
they're older now and the emotions run run deeper. So
but it's it's it's it's a comedy. I mean, you know,
to try to creep the emotion in there.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
There's a fine line between stupid and clever. Rob, you
know that.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
There is there is a fine line between stupid and clever.
As a matter of fact, we wrote a book. I
wrote a book, uh for Simon Schuster with that title,
A fine line between super and Clever, which is my
favorite line in the whole movie. And it just it
just appears now on the on the New York Times
bestseller list, and it's a fun book to read it.
(02:49):
It'll tell you all about the making the films. And
then on the other side, the other flip side of
the book is called Smell the Book, and it's in
it you Marty de Bert uh, my character interviews them
as final Tap and we get a history of the band.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Rob Ronnie, you were featured in the latest edition of
the AARP magazine, but you didn't get the cover. You bummed.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Oh man, are you kidding me? How old do you
have to be to get the cover?
Speaker 3 (03:17):
When he was fifty five? I don't know what's wrong
with you.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Yeah, Rob, you should be on the cover.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
I don't know who was on the who was on
the cover.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
I think he was saying, I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Well, you know, at least it's in the family, Okay,
married Christopher guest.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Rob, I know, I gotta know. I know about a
dozen people or maybe dozens of people every year self combusted?
Is there any more self combustion storylines in this final
tap too?
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Well? You know something. They have a very bad history
with drummers. You know, the drummers. They don't lat they
they've been through eleven drummers, and they have to find
a new in the new movie. They have to find
another drummer because their last drummers, Skippy Scuffleton, died of
a sneeze, a sneezing attack. He sneezed himself to death.
(04:05):
He couldn't stop sneezing, and so he died. And then
they have to find and then they look at they look.
They reach out to Questlove and and Lars z Ulrich
from Metallica, and then Chad Smith from the Red Hot
Chili Peppers, and they all turn them down. They turned
down because they don't they don't want to die.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
They don't die.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yeah, they'd rather live.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Spiral tap to the end continued. We're talking to Rob Ryder.
I got to tell you, Sarah, I think of you
every day because I put my shoes on sock sock
shoe shoe. But your character is doing sock shoe sock shoe. Correct.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
That's correct, and most people do it the way you
do it. On the odd ball there are very few
that do it the way I do it. But it's
so funny that you mentioned that. That's, you know, a
scene from All in the Family, and when anybody comes
up to me, that's the scene they quote.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
It's so hilarious. Somebody, it was like I saw it
on TikTok like a year ago. Scene is so great. Man,
you're awesome.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
I mean, who are you seeing that is enjoying Spinal
Tap two? And did you make it for all the
Spinal Tap one people are? It sounds like you got
some some some some cameos that makes make it interesting
for the newer folks too.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Younger folks, well, you know, I mean the Paul McCartney
in there, and Nelton John and Garth Brooks, Tracy Yearwood
and man. But you know it's made. Here's the weird thing.
The film works even if you haven't seen the first one.
I mean, it was important for us to make a
film that stood on his own. Now, obviously we've seen
the first one. You'll get some more of the references,
(05:42):
but you don't have to see the first one that
did this one. So you know, go to the movie
theater and you'll have some fun.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Well, I'll go to check out spinal Tap two. The
end continues. We have been having a time with you,
mister Rynder. Thank you very much, Thank you, sir, thanks.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
For having me.
