Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's talk Giants football, brought to you by Curtis lumber
your local full service home center and Lumberyard. And now
from the New York Giants pre and postgame show, it's
John Schmelk.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Good morning, gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Giants to win it All, Giants to win it All.
Speaker 4 (00:17):
Johnny Quinn just put down a one hundred dollars for
the Giants to win it all. It pays out thirty thousand.
Bottom line, John Schmelder, didn't you.
Speaker 5 (00:24):
Liked what he saw yesterday?
Speaker 2 (00:30):
I'm not an expert, but you might want to look
into your gambling addiction problem.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
I make one bet like this a year, essentially.
Speaker 6 (00:37):
Don't worry.
Speaker 5 (00:38):
It's crazy. Yeah, it keeps me.
Speaker 6 (00:40):
It keeps me there the entire season, especially if they
still because I'm telling you, I'll get a chance to
cash out with some decent money at some point. I
bet they look good after rustled through that long pass.
Forget about the other stuff.
Speaker 5 (00:52):
How did you see that game? John? How do you
feel after that game?
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Well? I mean, it's it's crazy, right, And you know,
he says, I feel I have to rustle through that
long pass and my asw is gonna be which long pass?
Speaker 7 (01:04):
Here? The Giants had eight plays of twenty four years
and more. I mean the Giants if it took him last.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Year four games to get to eight plays of twenty
four yards or more.
Speaker 6 (01:15):
Over, of course, though you didn't sense fire some sort
of you didn't sense a bigger team, a bigger thing happening.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
No, Look, the offense was great. I mean, look it,
and this is why, this is why the NFL is
a great sport. Right from one week to the next,
your team can look.
Speaker 7 (01:34):
Completely different, especially coming off a week one where like
weird things happen.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
And Giants fans I think are very conflicted coming out
of the week.
Speaker 7 (01:42):
I talked to a bunch of them.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
On the postgame show yesterday, and I think they're very
excited the fact that the offense looked as good as
it had in years, but now they're all mad that
the defense gave up a billion points. So I think
you feel much better about the team than you did
after Week one, but ultimately you're still very disappointed that
they found another way to lose in a close game.
Speaker 6 (02:02):
You give me thirty thousand to one chances of pretty
much anything walking down the street, I'm taking that one
hundred dollars bet for them that have to be football.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
For the seventh time in the last nine years, the
Giants are oh and two. It's hard to make the
playoffs from oh and two, isn't it, John?
Speaker 2 (02:16):
I believe I had the number yesterday on the pregame show.
I believe it was twelve point two percent of the
teams that start oh and to make the postseason.
Speaker 6 (02:25):
Okay, tell that to the eighth my friends and different
planet we're on.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Does Russell's performance put to bed the Jackson Dart talk
or is that's still living it should?
Speaker 7 (02:36):
I did not hear any of that in the postgame show,
So my guess is that you're gonna put a pin
in that, which I'm very happy about. You know, it
got to the point, I think in the second half
yesterday and they brought Jackson Dart into those little, you know,
run read option packages. You know, I'm sitting there watching
the game with Tiki Barbera, where I do the pre
and post game with, and we're like, dude, get him.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Out of the game. And it's nothing against Jackson Dart.
It's just that Russell Wilson.
Speaker 7 (02:59):
Was playing so well you don't want him on the bench.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
You know, hey, how come you don't name drop Tiki
Barber more often? We heard a promo for you and
we were like, holy crap, you should say that name
more often. There's some credibility there. What's your relationship with Tiki?
Speaker 6 (03:14):
No?
Speaker 2 (03:14):
I mean, Tik's my host now on the pre and
post game show, so I'm sitting there and then and
we're doing the game singer every week.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
That's awesome, man, how about that?
Speaker 3 (03:22):
You tell him about one hundred dollars on the Giants
to win the Super Bowl? Let him know.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Listen, you can't tell me.
Speaker 7 (03:27):
That game was aw about it?
Speaker 5 (03:29):
That was super exciting. Gause.
Speaker 6 (03:30):
Guys on the screen were like, we've seen football for
years and years, but we've never seen football like this,
and it was great football.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
The Cowboys kicker, how about that kick to tie it? Incredible?
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Sixty four yards?
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Was it?
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Brandon Aubrey is the best kicker in football. It's not close.
Speaker 7 (03:46):
That kick would have been probably good from seventy yards.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
It hit the net on a sixty four yard field goal.
Speaker 7 (03:52):
He's the weapon and it really gives.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
The Cowboys an advantage late in these getting.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
And I will say this, I think it's a win
the new kickoff rules after two weeks have been fun.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Oh absolutely, you get kickoffs all the time. I'm waiting
for and this is gonna happen.
Speaker 7 (04:09):
I don't know who's going to do it, but somebody
is gonna come up with some types.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Of scheme on the kickoff return that breaks some long returns.
We haven't seen a ton of them yet, but I
think we're going to see more as one of these
ingenious special teams coaches figures out a way to scheme
up some some big play returns in the return.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
I think you're right. We haven't. People are just putting
their foot their toe in the water. But there's some.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
They'll figure it out right away.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
So it's John Smelt the Giants pre and postgame show.
Giants lose to the Cowboys forty thirty seven yesterday. I
have to ask you, Uh, have you seen the owner,
the Colts owner on the sideline? Oh man taking notes?
Speaker 2 (04:49):
No?
Speaker 7 (04:50):
I did not know what happens.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
No, it's it's just it's Jim Orsay's daughter.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Dude. She's down on the sideline with a headset and
a notepad and she's taken notes.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (05:02):
He looks like, is that true? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (05:04):
Dude, wow, crazy, it looks like.
Speaker 7 (05:07):
Well, you know, I.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Get it to the point where if you're a new owner,
you're probably look and I don't think it's the best.
Speaker 7 (05:14):
Look for the owner to have a headset on. But
I get it if you're a new owner and you're
trying to get a feel for your head coach, how
the operation is and how everything works, especially in a
year where a lot of people think this is a
make or break year for not just their head coach
but their general manager. I get why they would do that.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Part of the family. Shouldn't she already know that, I
guess no.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I mean, I think they're a big separation between ownership
and what's happening on the field, with like the coaches
and the players. So I get why.
Speaker 7 (05:44):
She would sit there and want to try to have a.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Better feel of what's going on down the look she
might I look, by the way, not based on how
the coach have played so far. They're two and zero.
But you know, if she's gonna make a tough decision
after the year, I think she wants it to be
pretty much she wants to be very informed on it,
which I appreciate.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Well, that's why I saw the Colts owner on the
sideline taking notes because I tuned in because I wanted
to look at Daniel Jones. Yeah, he's playing really well
after two games.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Yeah, I'm happy for him. I mean, look, he's a
guy that caught a lot of you know, he here,
he did not have a lot of help around him.
The offensive line.
Speaker 7 (06:22):
Was poor, he didn't have great weapons, and now he's
got both of them with the Colts. And I looked
up it was a third quarter yesterday and he was
like thirteen of sixteen for over two hundred passing yards.
And I don't remember the last time Daniel Jones average
over ten yards per completion for the Giant.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
So he's doing what the Giants wanted to do last year,
get the ball down the field. And I'm very happy
for him so far for the Colts.
Speaker 6 (06:46):
That's worker I about Josh Allen and his growth over
the years, you know, becoming the guy he is in
the quarterback he is.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
I'm so impressed with that guy.
Speaker 7 (06:55):
I mean, Josh Allen is one of the three best
quarterbacks or four best quarterbacks depending on how you want
to talk about. Joe Burrow on the planet, and honestly,
for my money. He's probably the best quarterback on the planet.
Patrick Mahomes. With all the Super Bowls, it's hard to
make the argument it's not him. I get that, but
my goodness, Josh Allen.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Is just a one man show. Between the running and
the passing, he is so good. I really think that
he is.
Speaker 7 (07:24):
You know, he's at the top of the pyramid when
it comes to NFL quarterback. It seems like a good guy.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
By the way, too, John, do you.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
Know who's being heralded as the second coming of Josh.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Allen, Drake May.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
Drake May the Patriots. We're running out.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Of time, but I'm really glad.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
You brought that up.
Speaker 7 (07:44):
Day.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Next up, it's the Giants and Chiefs. What time's that game?
That Sunday night?
Speaker 7 (07:50):
That is Sunday Night, That the pre game. I believe
it's seven to twenty.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
And Drake made is awesome. By the way, I think
he's gonna be a great quarterback. Well, remember the Dolphins.
Speaker 7 (07:57):
Of the Dolphins, they.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
And I feel like two things. Mike McDaniel needs to
eat a sandwich and they're gonna find they're gonna fire
him after Thursday Nights lost to the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
That's sad to me.
Speaker 7 (08:10):
I think the biggest problemake Dal is that he needs
some longer pants. I think that was the first thing.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
I think.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
He's a great person every.
Speaker 7 (08:21):
I I for guys, I'm not digging the like ankle
length pants.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Sorry, I can't do it.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
You can hear schell from the Giants pre impost game show,
and he's he's agreed to do go earlier with us
on Fridays, So Fridays we'll talk to here on seven thirty.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
Okay, John, that is perfect. Hey, you had a teaky
for us. For us, I won't all right see you, John,
Thanks for all right, Josh,
