The truth about a suspected Chinese spy balloon shot down by the United States could be somewhere in the middle.
China claims the balloon was an unmanned civilian airship that had blown off course, and says it now reserves the right to deal with similar situations.
Strategic analyst Paul Buchanan says he believes two things can happen simultaneously.
He says the balloon is probably a surveillance platform used by China that got blown off course by an unusual Arctic weather event.
