Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yes, welcome back. Retailers are hoping for a big cash
injection this Boxing Day. Malls across the country are gearing
up for a rush of customers. Here's an idea of
some of the numbers of retailers could be expecting. Dress
Smart Auckland says last year in December, foot traffic was
up eight point three percent on the previous year. Lori
Silecki's is the Dress Smart Auckland center manager, and Laurie
(00:40):
joins me. Now, good morning, good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
How are you good?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Thanks? Good Thanks? What can we expect? What are you
expecting from the Boxing day sales at Dressmart?
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Are we detailers are really gearing up for a great,
big boxing day. We expecting customers to be really out
looking for good deals, and the economy hasn't been great
and customers are looking to get extra savings who they can,
so we're expecting a really bumper day.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Are you doing big sales there? I mean Dressmart's always
a sort of sale, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
So yeah, so every day you're you're getting them from
sort of thirty to seventy percent off at at an
artlet more such as Dressmart, but we are offering even
greater deals on top of those. For Boxing Day you
can get sort of an extra fifty percent off prices
like that. So it's a really good day to come
out and get some great deals that see you into
(01:33):
twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
What sort of ours do you see the crowd surge
or does it hit you from as soon as you
open the doors?
Speaker 3 (01:41):
It does hit as soon as we open the door.
So we're open at eight this morning, so the center's
full of retailers and we're gearing up, getting ready to
open and welcome all of our customers in at eight,
and then we trade through to seven this evening, so
we'll do a big morning rush and then we'll get
some some people, you know, the rush again after lunch
is such.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah, how expecting it to compare to last year?
Speaker 3 (02:03):
The kind of retail in general is done. We know
that the economy is not helping, people are really watching
what they spend. We're seeing a lot more sort of
considered purchases coming through, so we wouldn't expect to see
big growth in podcasts like we did last year, but
we know people who are here are looking for good
deals and they're doing a lot more considered purchases and
(02:27):
a lot more stuff that they're looking at basics for
next year.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
How packed? How packed is it as a way of
describing the atmosphere and there on a Boxing Day, Look.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
It does get full. We do see some of the
more popular retailers running queues outside of their stores, but
it's well managed and it's I think retailer has been
doing here for years, so they're pretty good at managing
the crowds. Be Jase. It does get pretty pretty full today,
but you know, we know these deals don't just happen today.
(02:59):
They do run through the week so if it's not today,
it can always be over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
How much do your retailers rely on Boxing Day specifically
because there are other sales threats year of course, But
how big is Boxing Day in terms of the importance
for retailers?
Speaker 3 (03:13):
It is an important day. I think there's traditionally it
is the day we people expect to get the best deals.
So there is there is the hyper arm Boxing Day,
and there's it's it's a good time because people will
be getting rid of what they haven't been able to
sell over with a Christmas period. God's good time to
look for for a good deal, and the retailers expect that.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Okay, well, look I have a great day. I really
appreciate your time. That is Laurie Sileki. She is dressmart
Auckland's center manager.
