Speaker 2 (00:16):
The Golden Globes beck start of the award season, comedian
Nicky Glaiza hosted the Golden Globe ceremony. Got good marks
all round for a funny performance without any bad low blows.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Welcome to the eighty second Golden Globes. Oh Zempic's Biggest Night.
The Bear, the Penguin, Baby Reindeer. These are not just
things found in RFK S freezer.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
These are TV shows when you were in Everything, Twisters.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Hit Man, my Head, when I'm having sex with my boyfriend.
Thank you so much for the insist and Sean Mandela
is their entertainment reporter on l I get.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
A gooday, How are you?
Speaker 2 (00:56):
I'm good? Did you enjoy yourself?
Speaker 3 (00:59):
I did? Actually, you know, especially after some of the
recent award shows we've had. Listened last year at the
Golden Globe comedian o'coy did not have a great night.
Nicki Glazer was stepping in following that evening, which a
lot of people looked at as a more evidence that
(01:20):
award shows are waning and aren't something that people want
to watch. And while there that is an argument that
is still being fought. Nicki Glazer did get as you said,
top mark. People from a variety of different spectrum across
spectrum of viewers seem to have resonated with with her jokes,
(01:43):
even if you know some of them are always going
to fall flat. But when you come away with a
win at the end of it, with people giving you
positive overall of remarks rather than negative, you're you're doing
well as an award show host.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Does Ricky device still cast a shadow over those I
don't make a shadow in a negative way, but you
know the he was he's lift as mark.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Yeah, no, I have some things, so I don't know
that you have a there's as memorable of a Golden
Globe's host before that, And I think the only other
Golden Globes hosts that can compare as a sort of
anti Ricky Gervase, which is interesting because they also had
their own barbs that they were able to dole out,
(02:30):
was Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. You know, one of
the funniest jokes that I remember from they hosted it
four years, actually three years in a row, and then
once after the during the COVID era, they posted it remotely,
but they had a great joke about taking it over
after Ricky did it one year, saying, you know, Ricky
Gervaise could not be here tonight because he technically no
(02:52):
longer works in show business. So you know, it's They
had a wonderful impact on it as well, And I
think Glazer is the first comedian who's been able to
get closer to that style of roast comedy, which is
what she does, and so she was a brilliant choice it.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Happy with the winners, you know.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
I am surprised by some of the winners, but on
that was sort of my initial take, but then on
follow up, it's not surprising because a lot of the
winners were actually, particularly in the film category, were foreign
films and actors of foreign actors as well, who were
not considered really to be front runners in a lot
(03:37):
of the categories. You know, Amelia Perez, for example, winning
Best Picture Musical or Comedy was certainly not something that
I think a lot of people had on their bingo card.
The old and globes car to be interested to see
who won the office pool around different different businesses today
Fernando Torres for the Brazilian political biographical drama I'm Still Here.
(04:02):
Those were surprises, but again this is the Hollywood run press.
Ye both on these and that membership has changed in
recent years. There used to be a much smaller group
of people and now that's expanded who are part of
the membership, So in that sense it makes sense to me.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
