Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from News Talks Be follow
this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Arguably our most successful motorsport export, he's been made tonight.
Sir Scott Dixon has been an IndyCar with Chipcanati Racing
since two thousand and one and holds so many records.
He's taken out six IndyCar titles, holds the record for
the most race wins with fifty nine victories. He was
inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in America last year,

(00:37):
so they recognized him. Now we are. He is a
night Companion of the New Zealand Order of Meriton. Sir
Scott Dixon is with us now.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Good morning, Yeah, thank you very much. Definitely quite the
intro and something that was definitely very very unexpected. But
you know, love love New Zealand, love find the flag
whenever I can and hopefully doing it well. But you know,
also what goes on in motor racing and the acto
leads that we have and then also the community outreach

(01:06):
and everything is just I feel very lucky to get
to do what I get to do.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
I think this is why we made you a night,
sir Scott. It's because you have flown the flag so well.
You were a great ambassador for New Zealand's your incredible
success means you get a lot of attention and so
when they see your name, so Scott Dixon, just one
Indianapolis again, they'll go, look, he must be really appreciated
by New Zealand.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yeah, I know, it's you know again, it was, it
was really unexpected. But for me, you know what I
learned growing up here, you know, I miss it every
year when I when I leave. You know, we try
to come down for Christmas, you know, kind of every
second or third year, and then you know, Emma and
I try to do a bit of an adult's trip
here and there as well. But you know, I think
when you when you're growing up in New Zealand, you

(01:53):
don't really you don't really know what you got and
this place is extremely special. We've been you know, touring
the country this year on this trip, you know, with
coming back for Christmas. The kids haven't been down for
for about three years. But Queen's Sound and you know,
the mount and then we're going to Wayhik and you know,
it's just such a beautiful spot. But you know, the
people down here are what really make it. And man,

(02:14):
we pack a pretty big punch, I think throughout you
know the world, and not just motor racing, but many
other sports, and we we we seem to produce some
some big stars across the fields, which is which is
fantastic to see.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yes. And of course while you're magnificent amotor of sport
and all that sort of thing, we know that you
still like New Zealand because you're still so involved with
charities in New Zealand like Canteen and some Jude and
and you also do some of that work for Team Cancer.
In America. You're particularly concentrating on children's charities.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yeah, the children's charities, and even with Penciebank, we have
a huge community outreach program, which is the main sponsor
that I have in America. And before each race, you know,
we go to local schools and we push you know,
the point of young education and especially reading, which is
which has been huge. You know, I think for me,
you know, probably when my career is you know done

(03:06):
a little bit, you know, in the future, you know,
it's going to be a lot easier to do a
lot of you know, a lot more community outreach and
use illness such. You know, when a comeback, it's kind
of compressed, and you know the overseas schedule is tough.
But more importantly for me too is you know, those charities,
but also you know, making sure that we have you know,

(03:26):
a strong and upcoming bunch, you know throughout the motorsport
ladder and you know, to get off the plane here
on you know, kind of the sixteenth or seventeenth and
then go out to you know, Sir gol Colin Giltrap
Raceway to open the new motorsports park out there was
just huge, you know, and that's really going to push
I think the young talent that we have in motor racing,
which is definitely my passion.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Your commitments our overseas because of the most racing. But
you know, you must get a little embarassed because whenever
we think about you, we always think about the stuff
on the TV with Paul Holmes where you're in a
little car and you're sitting on a Christian I mean,
we've been following you forever and you are getting old
and the question is how much longer can you take

(04:08):
the cut and thrust and the Hurly Burley of IndyCar
physically and even mensley. You know, can you see an
end coming for that career? And if so, if that
does happen, would you then come back to New Zealand.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Well, I think the reality is that I'm closer to
the end and then what I was at the start
of it. So you know, that's that's no doubt. You know,
whether it's three years, five years, you know, seven years,
you know, we've well, you know, for me, I'm still
loving it. You know, I've got the passion. We're still winning.
You know, we had the twenty first consecutive season of
winning a race, which is another crazy record that we've

(04:44):
been able to. You know, have an IndyCar and we're
in a sport of winning and if you're not winning,
going to be gone pretty quickly. So you know, looking
forward to the new season coming up in twenty six
here and hopefully you know, fighting for that seventh championship
and another victory at the annaplus five hundred also with
the sports car stuff. So yeah, you know, I really

(05:04):
focus on the now and you know, now it's really
about you know, racing being competitive and you know, work
to see how that kind of plays out, you know,
in the new near future. But yeah, I love New Zealand.
Well we've always had a footprint here, love coming home,
all my families down here. My family, you know, whether
it's the two girls and our little guy, absolutely love

(05:27):
it down here too. So yes, we will be you know,
based here at some point.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Well, Sir Scott Dixon, are you used to that yet?

Speaker 3 (05:37):
I don't know. Scott's just perfectly done for sure, but yeah,
it's definitely a bit crazy.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Well, you're going to be Sir Scott Dixon in the IndyCar.
It's a bit like Sir Lewis Hamilton in the F
one as well, and you're going to bring and just
having that that is going to bring a touch of
class to the IndyCar as well. And also you're going
to you're going to be a great flag there for
New Zealand. Congratulations and thank you so much for joining
us today.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Thank you so much for real proge, real pleasure. And yeah,
I love find flag for home, So thank you good man.
