Speaker 1 (00:00):
That is three days great on the show, it's Rock
one O, five to three. So we're gonna have David Blaine,
the illusionist, David Blaine on the show with us right now.
If he doesn't call, it's my phone. What Well, we
changed our hotline number like last week and totally forgot.
(00:20):
Oh no, And so when I set up the interview,
I give him they have the old hotline. Yeah, And
so I just realized that like four minutes ago and
sent the person our new hotline number, and so hopefully
they get it now.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
That being said, though, I wouldn't doubt if he grabs
a deck of cards and has people pull what the
hotline number is, he could do that. And you're saying,
and you may be saying yourself, that's crazy. It's not
crazy because I saw him come in here, not know
anybody on earth that was in here, and guess the
(00:56):
guess Eddie's driver's license number by pulling out h having
each one of us pull a card. It was and
it was in the correct order. It was the craziest
thing I've ever seen in my life. Yeah, And I
was freaking out because it's like the most surreal thing
you'll ever see.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Because we didn't know what we were like pulling. He
was just pull a card. So I thought he was
going to be like, have the cards add up to
Eddie's birthday or something like that. But what it was
his driver's.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Like number, which is in my wallet in my shorts.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yeah, and it's such a big wallet that it's.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Not just grab it.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Can we not do wallet talk for a second?
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Wednesday? Get ready?
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Okay, No, it's.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
The coolest thing about David Blaine when he came in
here is like there was no interview. He walked in
the door. It was like, you guys want to see
a trick and we're like when he did that, and
we're screaming and yelling.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
And he's like, you want to see another one?
Speaker 6 (01:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Because David Blaine, he's the most monotone guy. And he
didn't come in like, you know, like I'm going to
promote something because he was doing like a local show.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
I forget what it was.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Yeah, And he wasn't like I want to promote something,
I want to talk about something.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
He just goes, all right, I just want to see
some tricks and we're.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Just like yeah, And that he stayed I think he
stayed for an hour.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yeah, so he after our interview, he walked over and
he had people from the building come.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Over and do some tricks and they're all like, yeah,
he did like a playing.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Show for everybody, and then he came back in. We
stayed on air after ten. It was the only time
we've ever done that. We were on air like ten thirty. Yeah,
because he was doing tricks were so clean.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Yeah, we didn't live until and then he Yeah, he was.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
I remember thinking, like, you watch his show and you're like,
people act crazy and you're like, no one, nothing's ever
that crazy, and then it happens in front of you.
I'm just like it bows you.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
It's like freaking out. Man who loves magic? I do
more than any other person I know.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
I mean, but most of the most magic stuff is
like super like, okay, give me a break. But his
stuff is it closed you store is.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
So skeptical about anything. He's ready to puts on anything.
And the way he was acting when David Blaine left here,
it was like he was a change.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
I saw a wizard.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I still think he's a wizard, Like I don't think.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
He's Yeah, I still have the deck of Cards from
when he was in here with the autographed card in
the deck.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
If you saw on.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Our Instagram, how did you get that?
Speaker 6 (03:30):
No?
Speaker 3 (03:31):
I saved it so I could frame it and put
it in the office. And uh, it's in my desk
drawer and it's been there since David Blaine left and
not until we published that video this weekend on our Instagram.
I'm like, oh, yeah, we have that autographed card. I
was going to frame it for our office.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Thank you if you want to frame that.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
If you would have framed that and given it to
him for his birthday, would.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
Have been pumps. Why is it for the office? That's
what you got? Sky want this.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Shared shars not going to my house, is not going
to Thoris's house.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Is going to three years?
Speaker 3 (04:07):
I know it's in the office.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
I think I should go to my Honestly, I wouldn't
mind the kid.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
The kid loves the kid loves magic. We went to Vegas.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
She just wants it so if she if we all
end up leaving Monday, she could take it and sell it.
That's the only reason she want.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
I would never sell that. That's a core memory.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
We went to Vegas first time ever. Yea for made
sure we went to a magic shop, right, because he
loves magic something shop.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Yeah, in ne York, New York.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Oh, we got him, We got right. Now.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
We've been talking about David Blaine for the last five
minutes because we love him so much.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Hey, David Blaine joined us this morning. David.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
Good morning, dude, David.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
We were just sitting here talking. You came in studio,
probably about five years ago or so. You were in
San Diego for a show, and you came in here
and you blew our minds. You were doing all kinds
of crazy tricks where you were having all kinds of
different people pulled different playing cards and you figure it
out my driver's license number somehow. It was the most
amazing thing I've ever seen in my life.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
Oh, thank you.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
Do you have any recollection of that? By chance?
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Yeah? I actually do. Let me say what it was
was you guys.
Speaker 6 (05:19):
You guys shuffled the cards and then the cards that
were less face up spelled out your drivers. So it's funny.
I remember that, but I didn't even remember that trick
that I used to do. I forgot about that one.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Ring right, Yeah, it's money, David. It was so good.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Listen, David, I got to talk to you about your
brand new show because we watched the trailer and we
were all stunned.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
So it's called David Blaine, Do Not Attempt. It premiered
last night on National Geographic. It's going to stream today
on Disney Plus and Hulu. You I'm telling you right now,
this is a watch because what David does is he's
traveling around the world, and you're discovering people who can
do these kind of almost unnatural things, and then you're
(06:09):
going to try and do them right.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (06:14):
I have a crash course of a taste of what
they do, like a crash course, learning a little bit
of what they do, and in some cases I can
pick up on the things a little better than others.
Many of the things are very dangerous. And when we
were working on the show, the first year was research
and I had an incredible team, and imagine looking for
(06:36):
these amazing performers and these beautiful places.
Speaker 5 (06:39):
In the world.
Speaker 6 (06:39):
And the one parameter that I had was when you
present me the idea, it should be something that nobody
would want to say yes to, and it should also
be something that you feel uncomfortable, uncomfortably even mentioning it
to me, So that was kind of the sieve for
the idea. But at the same time, I didn't want
it to be something that was just like a quick,
crazy stunt. I wanted it to be something that was
(07:01):
passed down for generations or thousands of hours were put
into it, and that's the invisible work that makes it
look like it's magic, but it's actually real. So that
that was an incredible journey searching the world for these
people and then highlighting what they do. So it's been
a dream show. It's been three years, by the way,
with the year we search, it was a year in
(07:22):
a year putting it all together. So it's been an
incredible journey. There's you know, nine countries we shot in
twenty twenty two, twenty twenty three, twenty twenty four, and
I got you know, I had the chance to do
things that i'd only read about, only thought about as
a kid, and never knew that I'd be able to
travel around and learn.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
Some of them.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Yeah, because I mean, it looks like you're going to
like it seems like small tribes and all kinds of
different places where they have these amazing abilities to i
don't know, kiss a cobra or light yourself on fire.
You know, you're doing all kinds of crazy stuff with
these people.
Speaker 6 (08:01):
Well, so those two specific things. So in Indonesia learning
how to kiss a cobra that was something I've watched
and never ever imagined I would be.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
Able to do. And fits as a day boost practitioner.
Speaker 6 (08:15):
And he works with snakes and has been performing as
snake act publicly. And it's for a few reasons. Number one,
it's part of the day boost practition, but what they
do and part of their culture that they still share
and carry on. But the other thing is he wants
to show people that you a human can merge with
a deadly snake and you can bond with a snake.
And he rescues these snakes that are being tortured by
(08:40):
their you know, by their previous owners in some cases,
or just snakes that don't have a chance, and he
recovers them and then puts them back out into the wall.
And he does this in Indonesia. But there's no anti
venom for king kobras produced in Indonesia. So we went
to Thailand and I met somebody named Kris Shannon who
(09:01):
lives with one hundred venomous snakes and they just free
roam around this house. And you know, in Thailand there's
King Kobra's that just roam through the streets. There's even
like a temple dedicated to King Kobras. So he basically
treats them like the way you might treat your little
pet Maltese dog or something. Right, So he slowly changed
(09:27):
my perspective on what was possible. And as far as
in Brazil, I met these two sisters, Teddy and Jackie Valenti,
who are incredible, and they there's no platform for them
to learn how to do those incredible high eyes, so
they just started learning off of a bridge and they
started jumping sixty plus feet off of a bridge and
(09:49):
watching them do that was beautiful. And we put together
this idea that I had forever, which was just to get,
you know, to go off of a bridge on fire.
And we learned it quickly. But I had the best team,
so I felt pretty secure and safe.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
And in.
Speaker 6 (10:08):
Brazil we had the gels and the protective stuff. But
when I went to India, I met a guy named
Ramesh who had the most incredible fire act that.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
I've ever seen, where he just lights his head on fire.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
He just uses patrol the kerosene that he gets from
the gas stakes in water to protect him and he
walked me through it and it was fine.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
So it's an incredible journey.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
I can't wait to see this man, David.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
When we had you in studio, one of the coolest
things I always tell people is that you left our
show and then we're just doing magic tricks for random
people in the building.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
It was crazy.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Do you ever do that where you just go, you
know what, it's a Saturday, I'm going to hit this
target and I'm going to start doing magic tricks for
books because you seemed like to really enjoy it and
you blow people's minds.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
I do that every single place that I go.
Speaker 6 (10:54):
Everywhere that I am, I'm always doing magic, and I'm
always stopping. And if somebody stopped and asked me to
do magic on the airplane, if I'm traveling up on
a train, if I'm on the subway, even I try
to do something quickly before I have to get off
of my stop.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
That's so cool, man.
Speaker 6 (11:10):
Cool.
Speaker 5 (11:11):
It's been like that since I was like five years old.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
By the way, that's awesome. This is David. You're an
awesome guy.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
Man.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
I cannot watch You cannot wait to watch the show,
do not attempt. Definitely watch it on National Geographic or
check it out the next day on Disney Pleasant Hulu.
David Good catching up with you again, and and I
can't wait to watch the show man.
Speaker 6 (11:31):
I hope I get to come into the studio again
one day and I'll show you some new stuff.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Appreciate your time this morning. There you go.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
I'll tell you the show look amazic. It looks incredible. Yeah,
I mean it's like stuff like you know what I
what to like having bees on my face. You don't
do the bb er like crazy stuff. He's saying, Man,
how about this guy? And what did you say Brazil that.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
In the business guys living in a house with like
a hundred that sounds cool? What uh?
Speaker 1 (12:09):
The San Diego sc still hadn't lost in their inaugural season.
They were trying to stay unbeaten in their next match yesterday,
We're gonna see if they were able to pull it
off or not. Next to Sports Dirt,
