Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's showtime, people, It's showtime.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Here.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
We are yes for this.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
You're about to experience the show. How do I to
get down with three gangsters with the ringleader Eddie. I'm
weird and I have my weird quirks, but overall I
have a pretty normal sensibility the accountant and room mothers Sky.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I'm also not very brave nor strong the enforcer thor Am.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I negative all the time? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Do I have issues?

Speaker 1 (00:29):
And dressed in black from head to toe emity. I
am a mix of trashy and classes.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
It's the show and it starts right now.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
All right, guys, here we go. This is our eighth annual.
iHeart Rady Children's give a thought. Wow this eight years. Okay,
we don't know about today, not today, no can So
I need you to write this number down or text

(01:04):
line down right now because you're gonna be hearing it
a lot. But I want you to be ready to go.
The number to call is eight hundred two five eight
zero zero zero seven, or you could text the word
rock to three four nine eight four three four nine
eight four. That is how you're gonna donate, Okay, And

(01:25):
so we're gonna be hearing all about Rady Children's Hospital. Today,
we're gonna be hearing from former patients, maybe even current
patients of kids that have gone through Rady Children's Hospital.
We all have stories of going through Rady Children's Hospital.
It is such an incredible place. You're gonna be blown
away with some of these stories and amazing people that

(01:46):
work at Rady Children's Hospital. The only way they exist
is through donations and philanthropy, So please call and donate. Now,
here's the deal is that eight years ago we weren't
a part of the Rady Children's Give us on.

Speaker 5 (02:02):
And I'm crazy to think of that like day when
we found out we weren't a part of it.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
No, well they didn't think, you know, oh Rock, why
would rock be part of that? And are they they're listeners,
they don't.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
Give Yeah, no, this is charity and children. What would
rock listeners can about that?

Speaker 3 (02:18):
I got really pissed and I was like, you're out
of your minds. First of all, Sky and I have children,
and so we've been to Rady Children's Hospital. We love
that place. Yes, I would do separate charity work, and
my charity of choice was Rady Children's Hospital. And I go,
what are you talking about we're not going to be
part of this. This is insane. And so and I said,

(02:38):
you watch our listeners. The pe Ones are the most
giving people on the planet. And I said, you watch
you put us in there, put us in the game,
see what happens. And we blew everybody away, like we
wasn't even close. We had the most donations by far
out of any of the different stations and shows, and
so ever since then, they're like, oh, the show, they're
pretty big. We should probably we have them part of

(03:01):
it every year and every year we're the first people
who donate, So please call right now. I always like
to be the first people on the board. I like
the phones to go crazy right out of the gate
because they always are confused. They're always like, what just happened?
What's going on? Why is the show the Are they
the only show on the air right now?

Speaker 6 (03:17):
Started yet?

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Yeah? And so I like to prove everybody wrong right
out of the gate that the p Ones are the best.
So if you can call right now and get them
like uh, like confused and donate, that'd be great. And again,
any denomination you can donate, you can donate five bucks,
We'll take it. Up to you know whatever. You know,
we'll take the big donations. Talk to your bosses things

(03:39):
like that. Uh, you know, get them to donate the
number eight hundred two five eight zero zero zero seven,
call right now because they're standing by. Or like I said,
you can text the word rock two three four nine
eight four. A lot of things going on, okay, so
you can just straight up donate, which is fantastic. Obviously,
you know, tax deductible, all that great stuff. You can

(04:01):
become a hero as well. The Hero program is awesome.
We always talk about the Hero program. If by pledging
at least nineteen dollars a month, now you can donate
whatever you want, whatever you want a monthly donation. You
can do thirty bucks, fifty bucks, hundred bucks, whatever, it's fine.
But nineteen dollars a month you can become a hero,
which is amazing. And our friends over at sea World

(04:24):
for every hero, you're gonna get two tickets to SeaWorld
San Diego.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Oh that's great.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
So like think about the price that you would pay
for that.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Yeah, and Scott, you're a hero, right. The onlyason I
know is because she tells us. Okay, But but if
you become a hero.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
You could tell us, you could tell anybody you know,
You could tell whoever you want.

Speaker 6 (04:41):
If you become thank you definitely can.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
And she does. She does.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
She does every year plate frame on the background.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
I'm a hero. Ask me about it.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Sometimes it's a really long license, like what does that say?

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Then the front licensed place says, I donate plug. Okay,
she tells us about that is crazy.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
But yes, I am a hero and it feels great.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Every month give to child Yes, And so the giveath
on that we do every year has adopted my idea.
So I came up with this idea. I don't remember
one of the early parts where I said, if you
donate in your a business, and you donate at least
five hundred bucks, I'll plug you on the air. I'll

(05:28):
give you a free, free commercial on the air. And
so now they've adopted that and they're doing Yes small
businesses or individuals who donate five hundred dollars or to
get their name read on the air. I take it
even further, like if you're a business, I'll give you
a full plug. I'll give you your number, website, whatever you want.
So talk again, talk to your bosses or if you're

(05:49):
a boss by all means, donate and I'll give you
know how much advertising costs.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
More than that?

Speaker 3 (05:55):
A lot more than five bucks. I'm the number one
show in San Diego. Come on, bro, that's us humble
brag right there. I'm sorry anyway, So yeah, if you're
if you can donate at least five hundred dollars, I
will give you a plug on the air for whatever
business you got. So we're doing that as well. So
let's get these phone lines going right now eight hundred
two five eight zero zero zero seven or text the

(06:17):
word rock to three four nine eight four. That's already happened.
I don't even know what to say.

Speaker 6 (06:23):
I'm like so proud.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
I don't even know what to say, like out of
the gate.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
It's crazy.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
So I was I was asking, you know, hey, man,
can we you know, can we be the first out
of the gate? Things like that, Let's show these guys
what's up? Things like that. I don't even know what
to say. Gregory from Escondido has donated. First person to
donate and it's a big one one thousand and fifty
three dollars five point three one thousand and fifty three

(06:52):
dollars the first donation. You're amazing crazy, all right, let's
just wrap it.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Up no more. Oh yeah, right right right Gregor.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Holy cow dude, Well thank you Gregory. That's that's a
can I call you greg Can I call you greg Right?

Speaker 1 (07:11):
He's a formal man.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
I don't know, Okay, I appreciate you, Gregory. That is
that is a great way to start the show. But again,
let's get it going here. I was thinking about this.
I know a lot of people listen to the podcast
as well, So if you're listening back right now, you
could donate. They're going to be here throughout the day,
so it doesn't matter what time of day it is,
you know. Just like I said, make sure you tell
them that you're listening to the show. That you'll get

(07:34):
Like I said, you can text the word rock to
three four nine, eight four, whatever it is. So if
you're a podcast listener, that's great, but you can donate
as well, So don't think that it's over whenever you're
listening back to the show. So I wanted to think
about that too. So, like I said, a lot going
on today. This is the two days out of the
year that we always say that Emily actually works.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
She's very frazzled. Look at her.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
You forgot your headphone.

Speaker 7 (08:01):
I feel like that's the only missed step. I feel
very calm this hit today. I know a lot of stuff. Yesterday.
I really feel like I got it going on today. Yes,
the headphone situation, but I'm very organized.

Speaker 8 (08:11):
Here.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
You have your big laptop out.

Speaker 7 (08:13):
Yeah, I realized I didn't even I realized today, No,
this is not true. I realized yesterday as I was
charging my laptop and leaving a note to bring it.
I was writing the note and I go, wait, I
don't actually need this laptop for any reason, but you
want to look like But I realized I do it
every year, and I want to.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Look like to follow like the donation ticker, I want
to follow super by. Two things that I find hysterical
are Emily followed the donation ticker, then looking at Sky
showing Sky who's also following it, and then Sky writing
it down when it's on the ticker. Why do you
need to write it down? It's on the ticker, you
just saw it.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Sky will grab the pan and go.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Okay, She's like, why is she writing it down? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (08:57):
Yeah, I don't know. I you know, I like to
take oats.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
And make lists for no reason, but the reason thing
scrolls by so fast. And then when we get to
the point where we got multiple donations because our listens
got to write awesome.

Speaker 6 (09:10):
I don't want to miss one. So I got I
gotta write it.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Write down any donation a dollar to one thousand dollars,
write it down.

Speaker 6 (09:15):
They're all important.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Okay. So yeah, if you can donate whatever, like I said,
twenty five bucks to you know five or the box
right come in first before well and the hero.

Speaker 6 (09:29):
And the Hero program at nineteen bucks a month, I.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Mean, we gott you're a hero.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
We got it?

Speaker 6 (09:34):
Okay, can you shut up? Thor like, honestly, that's a
burrito these days, That's exactly what I'm gonna say. Any
got a burrito the other day? Anyway, like fourteen ninety nine, wow, fifteen.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
N I'd be like seventeen of my house. Yeah, by
my house.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
Skip a burrito Become a hero. That's the new slogan.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
That's is that gonna be on the paper next year.
Give a burrito become a hero.

Speaker 6 (09:57):
Wow, rolls off the top. I'll put it in to
my hero license plate.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
That's great.

Speaker 9 (10:02):
That one she's gonna have. That's fantastic.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Yes, please call eight hundred two five eight zero zero
zero seven or text word rock to three four nine
to eighty four. Let's show these guys what you guys
are made of, because you, you guys, are the reasons
why this is such an important thing. Uh and and
and you guys are the ones that show them, like
all right when listeners of the show are the best, yes,
and they say it back there They they they, you know,

(10:29):
like I said, when we first started this, they had
no idea what to expect. We showed up in full force.
And I like to show them every year, especially right
out of the gate. Right out of the gate. It's
always stunning. And they always come in here confused, like,
what are you guys doing that's so different? We're not
doing anything different.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
Yeah, they're gonna run over here soon and tell us
about Gregory s from Escondido and they're gonna be all excited.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Guys.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
I wrote it down right there, right there, right right there.
You can see it, donation right.

Speaker 6 (10:58):
I didn't want to miss it. But they're gonna start
piling up soon.

Speaker 9 (11:00):
So that's crazy, all.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
Right, very interesting. So yes, we got the giveth on.
It is underway for the next two days. You're going
to be hearing these incredible stories from pay people. I've
been through Rady Children's Hospital. There are stories all that stuff.
So let's get the phone lines going right now. Eight
hundred two five eight zero zero zero seven, or text
the word rock to three four, nine to eight four.

(11:25):
Let's get these donations going. I know, listen, man, we're
all struggling right now. Everything costs more. This is something
you could do for yourself. It's gonna make you feel good. Honestly,
Rady Children's Hospital is so awesome. It is incredible that
we are lucky enough to have that here in our city.
I always say, listen, you never want to go to
Rady Children's Hospital, but if you do, you're so thankful

(11:47):
that it's here. So if you can donate, whatever it
is you can donate, we would take it right now.
Please eight hundred two five eight zero zero zero seven. Well,
looky here, right out of the gate, we have the
biggest star in radio history. This is as big as
it gets. Ladies and jolly, the incredible Radio Hall of

(12:09):
Famer Laura Caine is joining us this morning. Laura, you
are just a ray of sunshine in my life. Every
time I get to see you, I get very excited
coming off your big let's make a deal when I mean,
this is as big as a.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
License plate with you.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Yes, I think so, it says, I wonder. Laura was
on Let's Make.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
So you're driving around the car you want Laura won
a car on Let's make that's crazy?

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Are you in Wayne Brady tight now? Or we're like
text Betty Okay, that's cool, that makes sense. So I
don't know about that, Laura. I watched the episode and
he seemed to look he's irritated by you.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
I was. I don't know what came. I was the
biggest spas on the planet.

Speaker 6 (12:59):
Energy.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
It was too much.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Yeah, let's make a deal. That's crazy because they want energy.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Yeah, oh they they Oh so I gave it.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
Yeah, I brought it. It was impressive. It was impressive. So, yeah,
Laura is in here because Laura has an incredible story
of going to Rady Children's Hospital back in the day
with yoursin Charliie.

Speaker 10 (13:23):
Okay, so I was five months pregnant and they said,
oh no, h you need to go right to Rady
Children's Hospital because we can't help you here, your we can't.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
This was just a regular check it.

Speaker 10 (13:36):
There was a check up from not my regular doctor,
but it was an ultrasound and the guy said, oh no,
but couldn't tell me what was wrong. And immediately we're
like what we we go into doctor David Collins office
at Rady Children's Hospital and I'm not kidding before I
get to what this was, the minute I stepped through
those doors, I can't explain the vibe in those hallways

(13:58):
in words. Yeah, all I can say is I knew
I was walking into hope.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Okay, that's a good point because Rady Children's it doesn't
feel like a hospital for a reason. It's for children,
and so the walls are different, they're like they have
different levels in their like theme and things like that.

Speaker 10 (14:20):
The energy everything about it. So, say Charlie was born,
was in womb. He had a hole in his stomach
where his intestines were growing on the outside, including some
of his organs which were getting too big to put
back into his little body, and so he had to
be he it was touch and go.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
I didn't know if I was going to have a
live baby or not.

Speaker 10 (14:41):
Scary, so you could really uh, you, this probably will
really hit you hard. The minute Charlie was born, they
wrapped them up. They showed him to me really quick
and then handed him through this hole in the wall
to the nurses at Rady and they there's a hole there.
There's a big tunnel that connects the two hospitals. During

(15:04):
that tunnel ride, he went code blue three times, Code
blue is me, and his heart stopped. He died three
times on his way, so they were hustling. Then they
were running to the surgery center to reconnect all his organs.
They put a mesh screen in his stomach and they
made a designer belly button for him. But I want

(15:27):
to say I didn't get to see him until three
days later. It has all puffy wires, tubes everywhere, breathing machine.
And I noticed in the corner of his little he
was in the series part of the Niku there was
a little stuffed horse and it was like it kind
of set up and I'm who put that there?

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Where did that come from?

Speaker 10 (15:48):
But it made me feel like this little horse was
watching over my son when I was not able to Well,
little did I know until I started doing this giveth
on these the kind of things that people. The money
goes toward buying these little things that help the parents
feel better about their children being in the most intense

(16:11):
nick you there is, right, the little sticker that held
his tubes and wires together, the little tiny sticker of
like a little bear.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Those come from donations.

Speaker 10 (16:21):
The liaison that came and spoke to us and said, hey,
I'm not a doctor, I'm not a nurse, but who
here's to talk to you if you have any questions,
if you just need to let it out.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
Those people are. This is what the donations help.

Speaker 11 (16:38):
It is.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
It literally is from the smallest things like you mentioned
the sticker to obviously these incredible favid memory things that
they have there, you know, the equipment that they need.
These are the tiniest little humans.

Speaker 10 (16:51):
The littlest, teeniest, tiniest wires you can possibly imagine.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Going whe does that come from? Yeah, yeah, you know
that that all comes from your donation. And so you
know it's not like you can just go to Walmart
and buy that stuff. You know, those are specialty made
for babies who were born you know, five months you know,
out of the womb. I mean it's crazy, but they're
even alive.

Speaker 10 (17:13):
You can fold up a dollar and that is the
size of a Premi baby diaper.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
I didn't know that.

Speaker 10 (17:20):
That's how little a diaper. That's how Charlie was a
Premium and he was seven pounds. So they thought at
some point that he might have giganticism because his tongue
was so big it stuck out of his been there
his baby pictures, his baby fishers are not cute.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
Charlie, Charlie.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
He didn't grow into his tongue until he was like
two years old.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
I never have.

Speaker 6 (17:43):
Eddy.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
That's what happened. Maybe never told you that story.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
Now I'm gonna have to look into this. Might have
gigantic maybe just in the tongue though in the calves.
Like the two weirdest things.

Speaker 10 (17:54):
Geneticist Marilyn Jones, who's still at rady each other.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
I love her.

Speaker 10 (18:00):
We were with her for three years, just make figuring
out if anything else was wrong that went along with
this on fall the seal, that's what the thing was called.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
And three years after and.

Speaker 10 (18:09):
Two surgeries again, two more surgeries, Charlie was cleared of
everything when he was three.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
Well and tell me about Charlie now, because Charlie is
a stud which is crazy.

Speaker 10 (18:21):
Charlie graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree
in psychology and currently, at twenty five, he cleans roofs
and gutters for a living.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Thank you, as I make that payment every month, Laurens.
It's okay, big deal.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Hold on, that's.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Nothing wrong with cleaning roofs and guts.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Psychology.

Speaker 6 (18:47):
You didn't need a thirty.

Speaker 10 (18:48):
Four thousand dollars then I had you come on now, okay,
But anyway, No, he's doing great.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
He's married.

Speaker 10 (18:55):
He he wants to start a family soon and he.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Loans first though, right Laura Man, those are parents.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Oh no, But anyway, but the fact that he I
would not have even been here, Yeah, he wasn't supposed
to be here.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
Which is crazy.

Speaker 10 (19:14):
And I always say this. I said that there's something
in Charlie's eyes. If you look at that kid, you
can't explain it, but I know what it is. He
has seen the other side and he has seen. He's died.
He died three times on the way to a surgery.

Speaker 11 (19:28):
He has.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
He doesn't know it, but he has.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
He's a great kid, and we're kid. He's twenty five now.
He's an awesome human beings wonderful and honestly, again, it's
thanks to the people at Rady Children's Hospital that he's
here today.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
Everything to this hospital, yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
I mean honestly, honestly, So you're going to hear lots
of stories like Charlie h and like parents like Laura
who have been through there and understand what they do.
And so if you can donate, we would love it.
Call right now eight hundred two five eight zero zero
zero seven, or you can text the word rock to
three four nine eight four. Then I know you all

(20:07):
out there one to get me a Christmas present this year?
Save it. Donate instead Instead of getting me a beautiful
Christmas present, which I know you all wanted to do,
just call and donate that that'll be a Christmas present
in lieu of in lieu of Okay, that'll be great.
Joining us right now is Cassidy and mom in. Cassidy
has another incredible story of going through Rady Children's Hospital

(20:32):
at kind of a young age, right, Cassidy, Yeah, good morning.
How are you sorry for a s guy asking you
what grade you're in? Cassidy's twenty.

Speaker 6 (20:41):
As it was coming out of my mouth, I'm going
like eight. Well, because I was thinking she was going
to say she was.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
I think Cassidy was going to be like, I'm this many.

Speaker 6 (20:49):
Yeah, so I'm sorry, Cassidy. I think I'm just getting
to the age where I no longer can tell you sorry.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
Rude Bloomer.

Speaker 6 (21:05):
Was probably the same.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
Mob we got a Cassidy, let's talk a little bit
about your story. What happened to you.

Speaker 11 (21:18):
So it was a routine doctor's appointment, pediatrician appointment. The
doctor wanted to do a p test because it was
just a general checkup, and she found that there was
an immense amount of protein in my ear in My
mom didn't know what that meant. I was seven at
the time, so it was kind of like, well, what
does this mean?

Speaker 6 (21:37):
Yeah, long story short.

Speaker 11 (21:38):
We had a appointment schedule for the next day at
Rady Children's Hospital with my nephrologist. I got a biopsy
and I was diagnosed with a really rare form of
kidney disease called f SGS. That was in twenty twelve
and I was about seven or eight. Flash forward to that.
I had to be put on dialysis because my was

(22:00):
progressing worse and worse and my kidneys were starting to
scar even worse. After being put on dialysis. I had
a double nepfrectomy. I had both my original kidneys removed,
and my lifeline was the machine that I was hooked
up to at home every night years.

Speaker 6 (22:17):
Oh yeah, two and a half years.

Speaker 11 (22:20):
And then that wasn't working. So I got put on hemodialysis,
which was I believe it was four days at the
hospital for like four hours a day. It was pretty
much every day, and my disease started to progress more
and it was getting harder and harder to keep up
with my energy and everyday life. I was limited to
thirty two ounces of water a day. I could barely

(22:41):
eat anything. I was like seventy pounds.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
It was.

Speaker 6 (22:45):
It was hard, how scary.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
Oh I'm so sorry.

Speaker 11 (22:48):
But that my doctor, my nephrologist, She took my mom
outside and broke the news to my mom and dad
that I had two weeks left to live and that
I needed to find a transplant immediately, donor immediately. So
over two hundred people got tested and not a single
one was a match. It was just like super super
hard to find that perfect blood type yeah, donor everything

(23:13):
until one day, like four days before my fourteenth birthday,
this random lady came out of like nowhere, and she
was like, I just want to put something good out
into the world. And she was a perfect match, and
I have my transplant in twenty nineteen.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
You're kidding me. Wow, that's honestly a miracle. It's a miracle.

Speaker 12 (23:31):
Oh yeah, mom, everything that she went through.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
When you hear the doctor say your child has two
weeks left to live, what goes through your mind?

Speaker 13 (23:43):
She said, it come out when she was on the
Heman dialysis, she said, come on out here. I have
some paperwork for you to sign. She took me outside
and she sat me down on a bench and said
she has two weeks left to live. And, like my
daughter said, out of the blue, this woman went to

(24:04):
UCSD Hospital and said I'd like to put some good
out in the world and donate a kidney.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Wow.

Speaker 13 (24:10):
And four or five days later, Cassidy received a kidney
from her.

Speaker 3 (24:15):
Oh my gosh, So talk to me both of you,
Cassidy about the people Outrady Children's Hospital and what they
mean to you.

Speaker 11 (24:24):
Well, definitely it's not fun being there, especially when alcome whole,
your whole childhood is dedicated to just living and being
at the hospital constantly being admitted and surgery after surgery,
But those nurses quickly became my family and they quickly
became super close to me. And my nephrologists was someone
I saw like every day, and my nurses that I

(24:45):
saw every day, they really tried to make it feel
like it was home for me. And I remember when
I had my transplant. I had my fourteenth birthday in
the hospital and a lot of the hemo nurses and
transplant nurses they did a lot to truly really try
and make it special while I was in the hospital.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Really cool. Yeah, and mom, those those nurses, the doctors there,
they're there for the kids, but honestly, what they do
for us as parents is everything.

Speaker 13 (25:14):
And really Children's Hospital is astoundingly good.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
And you can't. Yeah, there's not a bad moment when
they're with the kids.

Speaker 13 (25:26):
You know, they're always especially Cassidy's doctor was gregarious and
would always be happy and always talk to her, you know,
not like a child, but you know as an adult
even though she was younger, and it was just they're
just amazing and.

Speaker 12 (25:46):
And look at her now, right, she's gorgeous at school. Everybody, So, Cassidy,
do you still have like lingering issues or how are
you doing these days?

Speaker 11 (26:04):
Yeah, I mean transplant definitely isn't like a cure.

Speaker 6 (26:09):
It's hard.

Speaker 11 (26:09):
I've definitely from the immunosuppressant drugs. There's a lot of
side effects and long term side effects that it can cause,
and it's kind of a price you pay to be
healthy and move on with your life. A lot of
things have come up from that, like nerve damage and
just mental health is a huge, huge part of it,

(26:31):
and gaining weight from the predi zone. If anyone knows
what petizone is, it's an awful drug and I mean
it does the job, but it sucks to be.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
Yes, you just got taken off of that drug.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
And you're here. Yes, and you're here, And that's what's
the most important. That's so awesome. It is stories like
Cassidy is why we love Rady Children's Hospital and why
we do the givethon every year. So whatever you can donate,
please donate. It doesn't have to be a care You
could if you want to donate something, you could donate
your whatever twenty bucks right now. Honestly, you know, put

(27:06):
good in the world. We were just talking about that.
You could do that by donating eight hundred two five
eight zero zero zero seven, or text the word rock
to three four nine eight four. This is the time
to donate because we are in a matching hour. This
is when Thor like his ears per cup yes.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
Because then you whatever you donate, you tell her what
he donated more than you did. Well match So like
what if you donate twenty.

Speaker 6 (27:32):
Bucks forty wow, you're so generous.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
So if you donate fifty wow, yeah, that's bucks for me.
So we're matching. This is a matching hour, So anything
you donate will be matched by Randy and Karen Newhart
up to five thousand dollars. So let's get that going.
So that that's an incredible amount of money. So let's
get it going. Let's use it all up. So call

(27:56):
and donate right now. Eight hundred two five eight zero
zero zero seven. We've been doing the giveth On now
for what eight years, I think, and we get to
know certain families and certain former patients and stuff like that.
And we have two of our favorites in here. Hudson,
We've gotten to know over the years. It was just
an incredible guy and he's a big sports guy. So

(28:17):
I'm gonna get some sports takes from Hudson in a minute.
Nice And James is in here, dad, who is the
chief of lifeguards. You've probably seen James on the news.
I remember every time I see you on the news,
I'm like, I know that guy. Wait a minute, what's
going on here? You know, let's talk a little bit
about about Hudson story. That's where I were here for
Rady Children's Hospital. You guys come back every year because
it had such an impact on your guys's lives.

Speaker 14 (28:39):
Yeah, it incredible story. You know, we went in for
that sonogram like every other family and just got the
news that makes your heart sink. And hud was born
with a one pound tumor on his neck. And just
getting Hut born was a challenge, I bet. And I
went from this joy to you know, your your son

(29:01):
may not make it, he's got a point oh two
chance of survival, and to your wife may not make
this procedure.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
Oh my god.

Speaker 14 (29:09):
And a year later HUDs HUDs out of Rady Children's.
But everything in between there was just it was incredible.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Yeah. I can't even imagine that news. You know, when
you have a child, and Thorne just had his first baby,
he knows when when you hear the news, you're so excited,
this is the greatest moment of my life. And then
you hear that, I can't even imagine what's going through
your head.

Speaker 14 (29:31):
Yeah, it's it's devastating, and it's uh, you know, we
look back at it now and I think, how did
we even survive? How do we make it out of there?
And you know, bringing up these stories, It just I
just remember going, all right, we just he's just got
to survive these next two hours and we'll we'll get
to the next step.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
So you were living hour to hour.

Speaker 14 (29:51):
Yeah, yeah, I mean the tunnel from Mary Birch over
to Rady's Children's it was it was minute by minute.
I mean, my my first glimpse of hudson Is chest
was open with saran wrap over it. He was the
first surviving stern acostamey over at Rady's Children's that the
tumor was so big they couldn't intubate them through his
for his trachia, so they wound up cracking his chest

(30:12):
and intubating him through through an O.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
Scared.

Speaker 14 (30:16):
It is incredible and the doctor who's the doctor, who's
the doctor hud who saved your life?

Speaker 3 (30:20):
Doctor magic save my life. Wow. Wow wow always and
we still know that name.

Speaker 14 (30:25):
Yeah, he uh, but we just saw him not long ago.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
He was at my graduation party. Oh that's so cool.
That's cool. That's when you hear that and you hear
the impact that these doctors and nurses have. That's Rady
Children's Hospital. That's what they're all about.

Speaker 14 (30:41):
That's the place I mean. And and that's the thing.
We spent a year there and then once you get out,
you're not out.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
You're back with O. T.

Speaker 8 (30:47):
P T.

Speaker 14 (30:48):
And you see all those doctors and that's that's that's
why that place is special.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
Right.

Speaker 14 (30:52):
It's a hospital and it has its budget and its thing,
but all that stuff that they fill in and in
the corners, that's what everybody's doing here this morning, right.
That philanthropy. That's how they make that place so special
because of the giving.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
And it's why you guys come back every year, is
you understand the impact that it has on the kids
like Hudson and his story and things like that, and
obviously to us parents.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
Yeah one hundred percent.

Speaker 14 (31:15):
And yeah, any time that we can do anything for
Rady Children, so we would do it. Hud would not
be here without them. That's that's one hundred percent. And yeah,
he's a he's a.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
Major miracle over there.

Speaker 14 (31:24):
Yeah, and that's why we come back, and that's why
we're asking you to give.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
Yeah, eight hundred two five eight zero zero zero seven.
Let's get these phone lines going during this matching hour.
You know it's gonna be it's gonna be great because
we're gonna, you know, get it up to five thousand dollars.

Speaker 6 (31:38):
Oh yeah, we want to spend all that much.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
Yes, absolutely, So what I love about Hudson is that
he is a big sports guy, big sports fan. And
so we're gonna get this guy working across the hall
here at the sports station at some point in his life.
But Hudson, Hudson knows all all kinds of sports. So
before we get in this Giants talk somehow, you guys
are Giants fans too, and I don't understand it. You know,

(32:03):
they were good, they were good, Yeah, but I don't remember.
I don't remember. I know. I mean, it's been so long,
it's only like, yeah before whatever. He's counting. So so
let's first of all, let's talk about the Padres situation.
New manager. What do you think of their choice of

(32:24):
the new manager. I think it's a great choice. Oh
you like it.

Speaker 4 (32:27):
I mean, I think they're gonna keep building, They're gonna
keep stacking, obviously with the Sidler problem, and I think
I think it's just gonna I feel like they'll get
back to the playoffs this year and try to make
some noise.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
Yeah, I hope. So that's the goal, you know, I
would absolutely hope. So, you know, when you when you
look at the landscape of the NFL right now, taking
the Giants out of it, it's kind of there's so
many you know, there's such balance going around right now.
You look at all the teams, there's nobody, you know,
completely running away with it or anything like that. Who

(33:08):
do you like?

Speaker 15 (33:09):
What team out there is impressing you? I mean I
said it yesterday on my podcast. I just think the
Denver Broncos in the past. I mean, those two teams
probably the best two teams in the NFL right now.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
I mean, they have a bright future.

Speaker 4 (33:31):
I mean you think of two young quarterbacks, you think
about Nicks, you think of Trick May, and you think
that both of these defenses are gonna go at it
at some point. I think that will probably be the
AFC Championship Game.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
It is crazy to think of a world where Patrick Mahomes,
Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, those are the top guys who
aren't even gonna be in the playoffs this year. So
the young guys like you were talking about, it is
crazy to think about. So listen Hudson. Hudson knows what
he's talking about. Yeah, talking, You have a podcast. I
do have a podcast. Awesome.

Speaker 6 (34:07):
Where can people?

Speaker 4 (34:09):
Yeah, find it on Spotify podcast if you just type
it in.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
Herey, we're going to be out of business. Everybody's gonna
be listening to this podcast.

Speaker 16 (34:20):
You know.

Speaker 4 (34:20):
So it is on my Instagram handle hot Visions. It's
on It's linked into my Instagram.

Speaker 3 (34:28):
That's great. So my story, that's awesome. I love Hudson
is here doing a podcast thanks to the people at
Rady Children's Hospital. In all honesty, if can you imagine
if you lived in a place where they didn't have
a place like Rady Children's Hospital. I mean, Hudson may
not be here. So that's why it's so important. That's
why we do the giveth on every year. Guys like Hudson,

(34:49):
we love them. Call right now please and donate. Like
I said, it's a matching hour, so your whatever you
donate will be matched eight hundred two five eight zero
zero zero seven or text the word off to three
four nine to eight four. This matching hour is going
on right now. Matching hour is going on up to
five thousand dollars. Emily, I know you have an update
on your phone. To get your phone. I just threw

(35:12):
completely threw off. We're on the we're on the we
just got a text update. What are we at right
now in the matching hour?

Speaker 7 (35:20):
We have three thousand, six ten dollars left of the
matching out Okay, so.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
We need to get we want to use it all.
So if they're matching up to five thousand dollars, we
want to match all of it. Yes, so right now
is a great time to call. This is when Thor
considers donating. Yeah, because they don't donate until the second day.
Oh why why second day?

Speaker 8 (35:40):
Wait?

Speaker 2 (35:41):
Because I want to see, however, everything goes on the
first day, so I don't know how much we're gonna
have throw on the second day.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
What No, liter makes no sense.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Zero, that doesn't make any If it was a slow
first day, then I.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
Got up in a little bit.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
So you're going to be the savior, I would say hero. Oh,
just like Sky calls herself.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
Speaking of here, Well she actually is a hero. You
can be part of the Hero program.

Speaker 2 (36:05):
Oh yeah, she tells us about this all. I don't
tell us crazy like random days. She'll be like, guys,
you know'm a hero.

Speaker 6 (36:10):
Okay, I don't say that.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
I don't do that.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
And then she'll be like this band of our arms
from donating blood.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
Okay, you how do you become a hero? Well, it
is a monthly donation and again you set it up
where you don't even think about it. They take at
least nineteen dollars out a month. You could become a hero.
If you become sign up for a hero program, then
you're going to get two tickets to SeaWorld as well,
which is pretty cool. So nineteen dollars a month is

(36:35):
all we ask if you want to become a hero,
and then you can, you know, like I said, get
those SeaWorld tickets. It's great. That Hero program is awesome. Yeah,
I still got I still haven't heard from any kind
of business yet.

Speaker 1 (36:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
If you are a business owner or work out business,
talk your boss or whatever. If you donate at least
five hundred bucks. Again, great, text right off, I'll give
you a plug on the air. I'll give you a
full plug on the air.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
It's awesome.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
And you just tell whoever you know answers the phone,
the details or whatever, and I will plug your business
on the air.

Speaker 5 (37:06):
Yeah, that is a win win because you're getting a
basically a free commercial, like so crazy cheap compared to
how much a commercial costs. And on top of it,
like Eddie said, a tax right off for them and
matching our two oh.

Speaker 7 (37:19):
And matching, and you could be like Sky and you
get to brag to everybody that you're the one that
it is pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
It is pretty cool. She does nice.

Speaker 6 (37:29):
That's that's not why I do those things.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
Eight hundred two five eight zero zero zero seven or
text the word rock to three four nine eight four
now for as a now parent, this is your first
giveth on as a parent hearing some of these crazy stories.
Does it freak you out or is it making an impact?

Speaker 11 (37:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (37:49):
It definitely hits different. It definitely hits different. Like the
first when we had Laura on at six twenty and
she said she'd get to see her kid for three
days I can't even imagine, like not you know what
I mean. And I hold him right away, him right away,
and like.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
Just we'll think about some of the people that stayed
in for a year.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
And we had Cassidy on and she got dying up
something at seven, like it's just like, oh man, I
can't like when I'm this morning. I was up at
like two fifteen. My wife needs to walk around the bedroom.

Speaker 17 (38:20):
That's not the point.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
I don't mean to get.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
My wife. And then I got up at three ten
because how could I go back to sleep. I was
him and I'm thirty three hundred, thirty three hundred, got
a lot of room to go, let's call it.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
Come on.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
So I'm holding him and I'm feeding him, and I'm
just like you just you don't want anything happen to him,
Like Sky always says, Mama bear kicks in? Arem papa
bit so Papa Bear kicks in. I'm holding them, and
I'm just like so when I hear things like this,
I and and then if if God forbid a disease
or you just you feel probably feel so powerless, there's

(39:01):
nothing you could do.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
Well again, that's why we're so thankful to have the
Children's Hospital. Raise Children's Hospital. Here Emily tells the story
every year of what happened with your son Read?

Speaker 1 (39:11):
Yeah, didn't you read and just poison?

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (39:13):
It was crazy much.

Speaker 7 (39:15):
And mind you, this is kind of in the area
of Breaking Bad, by the way, the Breaking Bad came out,
and there is a part of Breaking Bad where Walter
White spoiler alert, is going to kill somebody and he
uses the chemical risin, which is like what terrorists use,
and he dips a cigarette and ricin and that's how
he kills somebody.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Right, I was just gonna start watching that show, by
the way, Yes.

Speaker 7 (39:33):
Yes, I mean anyway, So anyway, this is crazy because
this was in that same time. My son Read was
in the backyard of our house in South Park and
he was crawling around and like kind of toddling around,
and I was back there, but I looked away for
two seconds, like literally two seconds, and I see in
his hand he picked up this thing called a castor bean,

(39:53):
which is a plant that you could see like everywhere
in San Diego, and he was chewing on it, and
I get it out of his mouth, and I then
come to find out that that's what it is. It's
a castor bean, which is part of what makes up
the chemic rice and telling you about that they that
could kill somebody instantly. And so obviously he was only two,
and so I swoop him up. Obviously we we jet

(40:16):
really fast because I thought I got all of it
out of his mouth.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
But that doesn't matter. We jet off to Rady. They
take us back.

Speaker 7 (40:21):
Immediately, and they couldn't have been more kind to us.
Obviously they're tending to our son Red, but they're also
tending to me, who you guys know me.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
I was.

Speaker 7 (40:32):
They give him this this stuff. It's like a charcoal drink,
but it was. It was chocolate milk flavored. Oh like again,
that's that's something that they would give.

Speaker 1 (40:41):
Able to drink.

Speaker 2 (40:42):
That they were like, they said to your man, Robert, hey,
you can't have this read.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
He actually did try to drink.

Speaker 7 (40:49):
They had Read actually had a little many like cardiac
incident because they were monitoring him and all that other stuff.
But I remember they came in and they brought read
construction trucks to play with while he was in there,
and little things like that that just make all the difference.
And it was just the scariest thing ever. But there
I mean there we say it, they're like they're angels.
It's like a different place to be. It's not a

(41:10):
normal hospital.

Speaker 8 (41:10):
Now.

Speaker 3 (41:11):
You never know when something's going to happen, you know.
I mean it could be you know, out playing soccer
and you know he has breaks a leg or something
like that and you end up at Rady Children's Hospital.
You never know. Your kid at some point is going
to get hurt probably and it's going to get sick
or whatever. These things happen, They happen, and that's why
we have Rady Children's Hospital. And it's incredible. You know

(41:33):
at some point you're gonna end up there.

Speaker 2 (41:34):
It's okay not paying attention to your kid in the
backyard that it was another incident.

Speaker 7 (41:39):
We cut his finger open from a piece of glass
that need to go to radio and he had to
get stitched up from that as well.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
Uh took my eye off and for just a second
that happened.

Speaker 2 (41:48):
Learn a lot in the second great radio is and
not to do it like this.

Speaker 3 (41:53):
Okay, yeah it is. It is tough, you know, and
when you have a kid. But again, we're so thankful
for Rady Children's Hospital. Call and donate right now. We're
in that matching hour eight hundred two five eight zero
zero zero seven or texta word rock to three four
nine eight four. So we got a long way to go.
Let's let's spend the money. So again, we're up to

(42:13):
five thousand dollars. Is the matching hour going on right now?
So we might as well use it all up? Yes, right,
so call and donate right now eight hundred two five
eight zero zero zero seven or texta word rock to
three four nine to eight four. You donate fifty, it's
gonna be matched. Make it one hundred, and you can
tell everybody. Yeah, donating on a hundred.

Speaker 6 (42:32):
Bucks, you're so generous.

Speaker 3 (42:33):
It's the way to go. It's the way to go.
I know, we know that for you do listen. We
meet a lot of people over the years with the
Rady Children's giveth On, and it's great seeing them every year.
I do not play favorites, but francis my favorite. True listen.
I love Franci. Me and Franci bonded a couple of

(42:54):
days ago. I got to meet Franci officially and we
had a good time playing with blocks and we were
hanging out. We're talking about dogs. It was great.

Speaker 6 (43:04):
Photo shoot.

Speaker 3 (43:05):
Yeah, we did do a photo shoot. So yeah, you
can actually see it on our social media pages. Me
and Francie looking so cute. Meet me looking adorable and
Francy looking precious. You didn't think we did the same posts?
How can we not? I could?

Speaker 2 (43:18):
I was more looking at how cute she was. Yes,
did you not see me in the background? Man, Eddie
looks adorable?

Speaker 3 (43:24):
Precious? We did the same posts. It was great, mom, Laura.
We met you last year and we were your very
first interview, right. That was crazy, and so we you know,
you got to dip your toe into the iHeart ready
give it on, you know, a little waters here your
story and you know, Francis story really is remarkable because

(43:48):
francis not supposed to be here and this adorable, beautiful
child isn't really even supposed to be here. But look
at her now. I love her to death. So talk
to us about Francy's story. And you ending up at
Rady Children's Hospital.

Speaker 18 (44:03):
Yeah, so at my thirty week ultrasound, which is what
they give us geriatric ladies geriatric pregnancies. We were in
the room and you know it's old hat. We've got
two older kids. We knew what to expect, and the
text starts the scan she was just lovely, still in
touch with her today, and she got up politely and

(44:24):
excused herself from the middle of the ultrasound and did
not come back for quite a while. And when she did,
she had a doctor on her cell phone, which you
know is never a good sign. And so we were
told at that juncture that they did not think that
she was going to be compatible with life, and that
is a that is.

Speaker 3 (44:43):
A tough thing to hear, wild way to put it.

Speaker 18 (44:46):
Yes, And so Francie's in uterodiagnosis became dilated cardiomiopathy with
non compaction features and two holes in her heart, which
you know in the easy terms as an oversized heart
with a muscle that didn't form correctly and two holes.
And so they kind of shot you down this trajectory
of preparing for all outcomes and the most likely outcome

(45:10):
was a stillbirth, and that if we got to a
delivery that I maybe my husband and I Michael would
maybe have a few minutes, still tough to tell, a
few hours or a few days if we're very lucky,
Oh my gosh. And then she kind of kept persisting
in my belly. They did not expect her to stay
as stable as she did, and so nearing the end

(45:31):
of the pregnancy, they said, you know, there's a shot
she might qualify for a heart transplant, and Rady starts
prepping you for that. And so suffice to say, she
was delivered. They prep you for a baby coming out blue, lifeless, unresponsive.
She came out pink and screaming wow. And so we
were very pleased with that. And after four days they said,

(45:52):
did you guys want to take her home? And that
was not even a plausible thought for us. We had
nothing prepared. I was going to say, is your house
even No, no, no, we were a hot mess express and
so but we were so joyful because, yeah, we thought
we were going to go inpatient Rady for the next
six to twelve months until we could wait for a
heart and hope she made it, because many kids don't.

(46:13):
They don't make it while they're on the wait list.
And so suffice to say, she at a month yours
at a month old, needed a feeding to put in
because a lot of the heart kids have what they
call failure to thrive. The blood only goes to the
crucial organs and the stomach is not one of those,
and so at six months old they didn't. They then

(46:34):
decided that, hey, we think we're going to go in.
We're going to close up both the holes and see
if that gets her some stability. And so they did
that in January of twenty twenty three.

Speaker 3 (46:43):
And then you watch and.

Speaker 1 (46:44):
Wait, and that's a real hard thing to do as
a parent.

Speaker 18 (46:47):
But echo cardiogram by echo cardiogram, and with the care
of oral medication and the incredible, standout, wonderful, empathetic, talented
team at Rady, her heart had the capacity to remodel itself,
which is something that can happen with baby hearts. And
so today I'm proud to tell you that while we

(47:07):
will likely go to transplant someday, today Francy is thriving.
As you can see, she is a normal two and
a half year old with the support of the Raady
team and oral medications.

Speaker 3 (47:18):
That's unbelievable. Wow. So as they're telling you all these
things to prepare you and get ready for and then
none of it happened, that's got to be a good feeling, obviously, yes,
But talk to me about the scariness of those moments
right leading up to it.

Speaker 18 (47:35):
Yeah, I mean, I think and you know this is
for all the listeners out there. Everyone thinks it's not
going to be their kid, it's not going to be
their grandchild, it's not going to be their niece or
nephew or someone that they love. And turns out it
is and it does happen to regular people. And when
it does, it's pretty dang scary.

Speaker 3 (47:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 18 (47:53):
And to have the support and the expertise of a
team like the one at Rady Children's Health makes all
the difference in letting you focus on your child and
your family and let them focus on the thing that
they're amazing at, which is caring for kids medically and
is supporting them emotionally. So my ask of you today,

(48:15):
with twenty two hundred dollars left in the matching hour,
pick up this phone text. It helps kids like Franci.
It helps kids who are going to or parents rather
who are walking into an ultrasound room somewhere here in
San Diego today and are getting the worst news of
their life.

Speaker 3 (48:30):
Yeah, that's absolutely true. Eight hundred and twenty five eight
zero zero zero seven or text word rock to three
four nine to eighty four. One of the things Laura.
That always I think about at Rady Children's Hospital is
it's an amazing thing obviously for kids like Francy, but
how they treat us as parents. Oh, it's like, again,

(48:51):
you're hearing all these horrible things in these news and
they say, but when they come over and they just
put their arm around you or something like simple as that,
it is everything right.

Speaker 18 (49:00):
Yes, I mean the compassion and the kindness and the
time that they take to explain things and answer your
questions and evaluate options and walk you through the technical
details is unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (49:13):
And then I would say, which is such an un
sexy thing.

Speaker 18 (49:15):
The systems that they have there to support these diagnoses
and these complex cases are just unbelievable. Their communication, their implementation,
it's just a standout experience to work with them every
single time.

Speaker 5 (49:29):
Well, and that's kind of what I was going to say,
because you know, we've met a few times and I
could tell you're a very professional, very put together woman.

Speaker 6 (49:37):
And something something that I struggle with with doctors is
I'm a bit of control freak, so like I want
to know every detail all the time, like I type A,
I need to be in there.

Speaker 5 (49:49):
But when my daughter has gone to Rady, there's a
different vibe, Like there's a confidence in the people that
work there that let me know, I don't have to
double check on you. You're actually probably gonna double check
on me, which as a control freak, as a parent, like,
that's everything, because, like you said, you can then actually

(50:10):
focus on your family at home, focus on taking a
shower or eating a meal. So that's why these people
at Rady are just different and special, Ye for sure.

Speaker 3 (50:20):
Francis chomping at the bit, right, Francy, Francy, what do
you What do you want for Christmas? Francy santy? Do
you want something for Christmas? Nothing? That's crazy? Oh my goodness,
that's crazy. You don't want anything for Christmas?

Speaker 16 (50:39):
No?

Speaker 3 (50:39):
Do you don't want any legos? I know you like
blocks went?

Speaker 18 (50:44):
You should tell them about your baby? What happened to
your baby?

Speaker 1 (50:48):
They're yucky you the other day?

Speaker 3 (50:51):
You put them in your purse? Remember your purse?

Speaker 1 (50:54):
Yeah, what about your purse?

Speaker 3 (50:56):
Did you bring your purse today? Oh? No, where's all
your stuff?

Speaker 11 (51:03):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (51:04):
Did you bring a whistle? What are you gonna do
with that? Oh?

Speaker 16 (51:08):
What is that for?

Speaker 3 (51:10):
Who's gonna come when you blow the whistle? Listen, Francy
is here today because of Rady Children's Hospital. Yeah, I know,
it's so great. Please call him. Donateesush eight hundred two
five eight zero zero zero seven.

Speaker 1 (51:30):
I'm so excited.

Speaker 6 (51:32):
Do you see this guy?

Speaker 3 (51:34):
Is that Santa? Is there? Donate today? Text the word
rock three four. Uh. So, you know, we've been seeing
a lot of people with a lot of a lot
of kids that we've met over the years, and it's
it is a wild thing to see them as they
kind of grow up and stuff like that. I remember Izzy,
We've seen Izzy over the years. And is he what

(51:56):
you did you drive here? No? No, you don't, Okay,
So is he?

Speaker 13 (52:01):
Is he?

Speaker 3 (52:01):
How older?

Speaker 16 (52:01):
You know?

Speaker 11 (52:02):
I'm ten years old?

Speaker 3 (52:03):
Ten? Unbelievable? Mom, Mom's phase last week geez dodgies. Yes,
it starts to get real when they hit double digits, like,
oh my god. So talk to us mom about about
Ezzy's story and why you guys come back every year
to talk about Rady Children's Hospital.

Speaker 19 (52:21):
Well, actually, ten years ago today my husband and I
wheeled her into the OAR for her open heart surgery.
So today is actually her tenth year heartiversary. We call
it wow.

Speaker 3 (52:32):
We celebrate that's wild.

Speaker 1 (52:33):
Yeah, she was.

Speaker 3 (52:34):
You remember that day is? Oh yeah, just kidding.

Speaker 1 (52:37):
Thankfully he doesn't remember.

Speaker 6 (52:38):
And do we go out to dinner? What do we
do to celebrate? What are we doing?

Speaker 11 (52:41):
Well?

Speaker 19 (52:41):
We went to Mariah Carey on Friday for her.

Speaker 6 (52:45):
Okay, that's good.

Speaker 3 (52:46):
Did she do all I Want for Christmas?

Speaker 1 (52:48):
Yes? It was the last song and it was so good?

Speaker 3 (52:50):
Oh man, Eddie, did you did you record it?

Speaker 6 (52:53):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (52:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 19 (52:57):
Ten years ago today, you know, we thought we were
having a help the baby. Fast forward to day two
of life. Her lips looked a little gray and she
was diagnosed with a heart defect called transposition of the
greater arteries. She was transferred over to Rady Children's Hospital
and where she was needed to have open heart surgery
to save her life. And that's exactly what happened ten
years ago. And on that day, not only did they

(53:19):
save her life, but they saved our lives as well.
And my biggest wish was this moment right here for
her to be able to tell her story, be strong, healthy,
of course, crave. It's all because of Rady Children's Hospital
and the care and the technology that they have to
make that possible.

Speaker 3 (53:34):
And you think about it, and you go, well, what
if I didn't live in San Diego, and what if
we didn't have eight children's hospital, what does it even
be here today?

Speaker 19 (53:42):
No, it's a very true statement. We're so grateful to
have RADY right here in our backyard. They're truly amazing.
And you know, eleven years ago, I didn't have children,
and RADY wasn't a part of my life, and I
didn't think I needed to donate, and I'm kicking myself,
and now it's why we're paying it forward, because you know,
if that's you pick up a phone call, because you
never know when you your child, your coworkers, you know,

(54:05):
your family members are gonna need RADY and it's so important.

Speaker 3 (54:08):
What's crazy, Monica, is you know, we've been talking to
a lot of families, you know, obviously over the next
couple of days, and they know the technical terms for
these medical that you probably never even had thought of
or heard of before, and now you can recite it easily.

Speaker 19 (54:25):
People ask you, they're like, are you a nurse. I'm like, no, no, no, no,
I'm very familiar experience unfortunately.

Speaker 5 (54:31):
But yeah, But what I also love about RADI is
as a parent, when you come in.

Speaker 6 (54:36):
They're not going to just drop those terms.

Speaker 5 (54:38):
On you and walk out and you have to go
home and google it like. They're going to take the
time to explain it in normal people terms, make sure
you understand what it means, what the next steps are like.
They just make sure you know as much as you
can and be as comfortable as you are.

Speaker 6 (54:53):
And I think that's why the parents remember the terms.

Speaker 5 (54:56):
The parents will remember the doctor's name from like twenty
years ago.

Speaker 6 (55:01):
It's so impressive what they do at Rady.

Speaker 7 (55:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 19 (55:03):
I remember the surgeon literally drew out a picture of
her heart and what he was going to do and
how he's going to repair it, and we're like, okay,
And you know, her cardiologist has been there, doctor Davis,
from day one, and she still sees him every year.
And she just did her tenure check up. She did
a treadmill exam after.

Speaker 3 (55:22):
How'd you do good?

Speaker 6 (55:24):
My heart said normal the whole time.

Speaker 1 (55:25):
Really nice four minute mile, normal, pretty step. You know
they that treadmill? Yeah, a bit, a little bit.

Speaker 19 (55:34):
Yeah, she's an athlete, so she was able to stick
with it.

Speaker 3 (55:37):
Yeah. What kind of sports do you play?

Speaker 19 (55:39):
Softball?

Speaker 3 (55:39):
Wait a minute, I'm a coach. I'm a coach, yes,
not softball coach, little league coach. Yeah, but same thing.
Do you know about the four and we need talk.
We need to talk. I gotta talk to his four principles. Okay,
this is and when you hit the hit the field,
you got to bring four things with you. Okay. A

(56:00):
number one attitude. Got to have a good attitude, right,
got to be coachable, all right, So you always have
a good attitude when you play. When you play softball,
do you have a good attitude? Good? Of course, that's excellent.
You have to have a good effort efforts always, so
you're out there. You always got to give me a
good effort. Things are gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (56:15):
If you get a bad effort, it's okay.

Speaker 3 (56:16):
It's okay. Things happen in baseball, right and in softball
you're gonna make mistakes. It's okay. It's all it's all
about how you handle that. It's all about your your
effort and attitude. Right, things happen. We have to have
focus out there right where you're gonna go with baseball?
If the baseball gets to be football gets it to me,
where are you gonna go?

Speaker 6 (56:36):
Because maybe I got a Snapchat.

Speaker 13 (56:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (56:38):
You talk about you get out of here.

Speaker 6 (56:42):
I'm off the team.

Speaker 3 (56:43):
And then the thing I will I'm not sure how
you are energy? Energy you have you have good energy
when you show up. We're not you know, agang hired,
you get hours, you cross those lines. You got to
bring the energy. You have all four of those things.
You're a great, You're a great. What position do you
like to play?

Speaker 1 (57:04):
Nice?

Speaker 6 (57:04):
That's good.

Speaker 3 (57:05):
Catcher, Yeah, Catcher sees everything. Sky Catcher sees everything. So
you're in charge of that's the third coach in the field. Yes,
that's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (57:12):
Ketcher also gets scholarships, So that's what mom's saying.

Speaker 3 (57:15):
Okay, okay, listen. So so no effects, really, I mean
you're still you're thriving and doing great. That's awesome.

Speaker 19 (57:24):
Play basketball the summer, get out there. But I was
worried about yeah life, you know, normal heart. That all
because of rady.

Speaker 3 (57:34):
That's incredible.

Speaker 5 (57:34):
And you know what I find amazing about kids who
have been through rady. They don't have a fear of
going back to rady. Where I know, as an adult,
I have friends who had something happen when.

Speaker 6 (57:46):
They were a kid.

Speaker 1 (57:48):
Yeah, and they don't.

Speaker 6 (57:48):
They don't want to go to hospitals. They don't want
to go to doctor's appointments.

Speaker 5 (57:51):
But kids, even my daughter is like, oh, that's the
good hospital with the nice people.

Speaker 6 (57:56):
I'm like, yes, it is.

Speaker 1 (57:57):
That's so true.

Speaker 19 (57:58):
She's the best patient and she knows that she's gonna
be well taken care of theirs.

Speaker 20 (58:02):
So cool.

Speaker 3 (58:03):
Now, was was the Mariah concert your Christmas present?

Speaker 1 (58:06):
Or do we get under birthday present?

Speaker 3 (58:08):
Birthday present? Okay? So present? Trying to add on to things?
I mean you relax, you know, that was pretty big.
Mine is pretty big. You know, all right, what do
you want for Christmas? In I cannot? How's about?

Speaker 6 (58:28):
Okay, okay, there's other things.

Speaker 3 (58:30):
Relaxed, Okay, Just.

Speaker 11 (58:32):
Like earlier, she said like a wret to play be
tool so and I was like, oh that's Litana is.

Speaker 19 (58:36):
Cool, Okay. She's an old soul, you know, so mature
and so brave. And I think it's because of everything
that she went through absolutely so, yeah, I think that
would be a great gift.

Speaker 3 (58:47):
Well, this is Susy is here today because of Rady
Children's Hospital. That is why we do the given thought
every year, So please call and donate right now eight
hundred two five eight zero zero zero seven or text
the word to three four nine eight four.

Speaker 2 (59:03):
Never seen someone who's not asked to do anything but
then spends all break trying to do everything. And like
she's all all those notes she's written dout, she's going,
she's going through the binder.

Speaker 3 (59:17):
Why she's not doing anything? It looks like you're midweek
meltdown notes. It's crazy. It's a great point.

Speaker 2 (59:24):
She's like, she's like talking to people about this person,
but she's not in charge of anything.

Speaker 1 (59:28):
The binders, by the way.

Speaker 11 (59:34):
Why.

Speaker 3 (59:36):
Binder day?

Speaker 9 (59:37):
This is now Emily's day.

Speaker 2 (59:41):
The sky can't not be in charge of like she
has to be. She has to be a control freak.

Speaker 20 (59:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (59:48):
And if I about work, I gotta be working. I
got to be doing something on the air.

a group of volunteers that fundraise and advocate on behalf
of the hospital and we have about one thousand members
that span twenty different units In San diego that are geographically.

Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
Based oh, okay well that's very.

Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
Cool and you have a personal connection To Rady, children's
RIGHT i.

Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
DO i.

Speaker 8 (01:05:27):
DO i am a member of The tirasana unit and
my daughter who is twenty four, now so this was
quite a long time, ago BUT i joined the auxiliary
on behalf of my, Daughter, leanna who was born six
weeks early At rady Children so she went To Rady.
Children's BUT i just it was such a crazy. TIME
i was on bed rest with her for about a

(01:05:49):
month At Shart Mary. Birch and you, know as a new,
parents my first, pregnancy like that's pretty. Scary, Yeah and
then to have an emergency pregnancy and you, know have
an emergency sea section and have my husband go through
The Sharp tunnel to The Rady, tunnel THAT'S i, MEAN
i can't even imagine him in that. State but then

(01:06:10):
to have your daughter be in the nick you and
spend her first month of life in the, HOSPITAL i, mean,
again as a new, parents it's really a, scary scary.

Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
Time, rowanie thank you for shouting out the, dad BECAUSE
i went through the exact same. Thing we had an
emergency sea. Section my daughter came, out wasn't, breathing wasn't you.
Know they took a minute for her to finally revive
her and get her, going and then they rushed me
and her, off And i'm, like where are we? GOING

(01:06:41):
i don't even understand what's happening right. Now my wife,
was you, know still getting her stuff put in back
into her belly and seeing sewed, up and she and
then we're, gone AND i literally was then just me
there And i'm, LIKE i don't know what's happening right.
NOW i don't even understand what's going. On and so
it was the people At Rady Children's hospital who kind

(01:07:02):
of like put the arm around me and, go that's, okay,
dad you'll be all. Right you know we got. You
don't worry about. That and it was that moment WHERE
i kind of finally let out an exhale and, went, oh,
okay this is gonna be, Okay like everybody's in good. Hands,
yeah you were in good. Hands my wife is in good.
Hands babies in good. Hands and it was those people
who really calmed me down and made me feel like
this is going to be.

Speaker 8 (01:07:21):
Okay, Yes i'm grateful for the doctors and the nurses
and the staff At Rady children's BECAUSE i, mean, yes it.

Speaker 1 (01:07:29):
Is it could be, very very. Scary, yeah without a.

Speaker 3 (01:07:33):
DOUBT i mean it really. Is and it made such
an impact on you that you joined the. Auxiliary, YES
i MEAN i.

Speaker 8 (01:07:39):
Was my daughter was three at the, time AND i was, Like,
GOD i just really want to give back to this.
Hospital but she was there again when she was one
years old because she had a complex febrile. Seizure that's
the seizure that lasts for over thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:07:51):
Minutes oh my.

Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
God, yeah he didn't think that was.

Speaker 8 (01:07:57):
Possible, yeah oh, Yeah so she had she was, sick
she had a, fever which we were, maintaining you, know
the tile and all alco, thing and in the middle
of the, night here we were again like my husband, right,
like we're not calling the. Ambulance i'm just getting in
the car and we drive down there and she's seizing
for over thirty. Minutes but you, know by the grace Of,

(01:08:19):
god like she's, fine but again like a scary another,
scary scary. Time And i'm just so grateful To. Rady
and SO i saw like in the tier, times Like
Rady Children's Hospital, auxiliary And i'm, like what is? That
AND i went to a meeting AND i discovered all
the amazing things that they do for the. Hospital we,
advocate we, fundraise But i've just dedicated twenty years to

(01:08:42):
that organization Because i'm so. GRATEFUL i have two. Children
my daughter's twenty four, now my son's twenty, two but
there are so many kids in the hospital that are
just not as blessed as we.

Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
Are you think about this time of year, too there's
kids literally in there right, now and what do you
want to do around this. Time you want to celebrate the,
Holidays you want to be at home with the families
and things like. That there's gonna be kids that are
going to Celebrate christmas in the, hospital and that's that nobody.

Speaker 8 (01:09:10):
WANTS i can't even imagine.

Speaker 1 (01:09:12):
That as a.

Speaker 8 (01:09:12):
FAMILY i Love, CHRISTMAS i, mean this is my favorite
time of, year and be in that situation IS i
just can't even.

Speaker 3 (01:09:20):
Imagine, yeah SO i do something similar where we donate,
movies we donate. Games you, know when kids grow up
and so like WE i don't need these games, anymore
so we give them all to the, hospital and EVERYTHING i,
Can i'm going to give back to that hospital because
that hospital is. Everything i'm telling. YOU i always say
you never really want to See Rady Children's, hospital, never

(01:09:42):
but if you, do you're so thankful that they're, there.

Speaker 8 (01:09:45):
So thankful just to have this award winning hospital in our.
Community it's everything really a, gift.

Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
And they exist because of the donations in.

Speaker 8 (01:09:55):
Philanthropy, yeah there's so many programs that don't get, funded
and like Child Life services only funded through. Philanthropy the
toy and gift yes, Again christmas, Funded, yes.

Speaker 5 (01:10:08):
Philanthropy and those are the things that kids, remember like
because they'll be In rady when they're super young and
then they'll be, like is that the place WHERE i
got the?

Speaker 6 (01:10:15):
Dinosaur? Ye you're, like, yes that's the place that then
the ice.

Speaker 3 (01:10:18):
Cream, yeah Where i'm at the.

Speaker 8 (01:10:20):
Dog you have a little, plastic little squeaky toy that
my daughter got when she was a. Baby she named Him.
MESITO i don't know, why but please still have, him
and you, know we look at him and it's just
such a fond.

Speaker 6 (01:10:32):
Memory, yes very, Special.

Speaker 3 (01:10:34):
Ronnie do you know where they find the nurses and
people that work At Rady Children's hospital because they're a
different breed they're they're the most incredible humans on. Earth
THEY i don't know where they find.

Speaker 8 (01:10:45):
Them it's really a special, place AND i don't know
where they find them, Either But i'm just so thankful.

Speaker 3 (01:10:51):
That absolutely so please donate whatever you can eight hundred
two five eight zero zero zero seven or tech the
word rock to three four nine eight. Four so we've
been doing The Rady Children's given don for about eight years.
NOW i have a few buddies That i've met over the,
years And aiden is definitely one of. Them we're, buddies Right, Aiden, Yeah,

(01:11:14):
yeah that's. Right we've met a while. AGO i looked
And aiden is. Seventeen, Now, mom that can't be. Right
what is going? On, LIKE i can't remember When aiden came.
In he was like this tall and now look at. Up,
yeah look it. Up aiden is so great to See,
aiden and you, guys we love that you guys are

(01:11:35):
coming back every single. Year talk to us a little
bit About aiden's life and his story and why you
guys Love Rady Children's.

Speaker 16 (01:11:41):
Hospital we we would do anything For. RADY i say
that all the. Time every. Year rady has Saved aiden's.
Life he's been life lighted back there he's had twelve
surgeries AT. Rady by the time he was, eight he
had twelve surgeries.

Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
And he's still.

Speaker 17 (01:12:00):
Exhausted and he's still followed by seven specialists.

Speaker 16 (01:12:05):
There so and he loves. Basketball but we would do
anything For. Rady they took care of us from the
moment he was. Born he was life flighted back To
rady and from then it was three months in THE
nicku and three surgeries too open, heart and, yeah it
was it was a, tough tough start for him and

(01:12:27):
that's why he's so, strong.

Speaker 3 (01:12:28):
Yes and so.

Speaker 16 (01:12:29):
Resilient. Absolutely, yeah it was a lot of time spent
there AND i we've been back so many times, obviously twelve,
surgeries and every Time i'm amazed at the care and
just the things that they do that they go out
of the, Way they go out of the way to
make the kids comfortable and the families as.

Speaker 3 (01:12:49):
Well, yeah well that's the. Thing you. Know obviously they're
there for the, kids and they're there for the patients
and things like, that but what they do for us
as parents too is it's. Remarkable you, know they make
you feel good and comfortable and like that your your
children are gonna be. Okay, yes.

Speaker 17 (01:13:06):
Absolutely and the distractions that they give.

Speaker 6 (01:13:08):
All those are the, kids you, know like.

Speaker 16 (01:13:11):
When you guys used to do the radio stations there
on site and radio and we would come down for
that when he was impatient.

Speaker 11 (01:13:20):
And.

Speaker 6 (01:13:20):
Gratitude, yes, yeah BECAUSE i would remember when we went
broadcast from.

Speaker 5 (01:13:25):
The hospital BEFORE, covid the big bin of toys they would.

Speaker 6 (01:13:29):
Have we were talking remember the, toys all the toys Love, yeah,
yeah but it's those things that insurance doesn't pay for
toys for, kids but these, donations that's what it, does
little things to make them smile when they're going through
such hard.

Speaker 17 (01:13:48):
Stuff and the, PLAYROOMS i mean they have playrooms in every.

Speaker 16 (01:13:51):
Ward it's several of them where the, kids if they're able,
to you, know we would go and bring the ivy
poll and bring a nurse and we'd go in there
and he would put a puzzle to other play with
legos and or watch a. Video they had VCRs and
it was just like getting out of the room for a.
Minute and all that.

Speaker 17 (01:14:06):
Is the extra stuff that they. Do it's just.

Speaker 3 (01:14:09):
Amazing AND i Hear aiden is A padres. Fan, yeah it's.
Big he's look at. THAT i like. It he's a
Big christmas fan like, me but he's also a Big
padres fan, too And aiden got to do some some
pretty incredible.

Speaker 17 (01:14:24):
Things, recently he had a really cool meet and greet
With Manny.

Speaker 16 (01:14:27):
Machado it was a very Special we brought our special
family members with us that. Day and then a second,
game he got to bring the, ball the game ball
to The Picture's.

Speaker 3 (01:14:44):
Mountain no, way was that, cool dancing on the. Ron that's.
Incredible it was really.

Speaker 16 (01:14:53):
Cool his Cousin riley walked out there with them and
a lot of people, cheering but he did, it and,
hed that's so.

Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
Cool and to think about that kind of a thing
and that kind of a moment back when you were
in the hospital to, beginning it was probably.

Speaker 17 (01:15:08):
UNFATHOMABLE i, know, yeah it absolutely.

Speaker 16 (01:15:10):
WAS i mean you just never even really let yourself
look ahead when you're going through those times without a.

Speaker 3 (01:15:16):
DOUBT i, MEAN i can tell. It it's still emotional to.
You it is to this. Day it, Is it really.
Is it.

Speaker 17 (01:15:21):
Is and he's we're so.

Speaker 16 (01:15:22):
Blessed he so healthy and, strong and we know we
owe that all To Rady Children's.

Speaker 17 (01:15:26):
Hospital about a prayer we.

Speaker 3 (01:15:30):
Can Pray Yesten adian's my. Guy he has been for
a long time and every YEAR i get to see.
HIM i look forward to it every. Year he's a
special guy And i'm glad to see he's doing well as. Always, so,
yes it is a matching, Hour so please call and
donate right. Now whatever you donate will be. Matched we're
to be enjoyed right now By lindsay who has been

(01:15:52):
through The Rady Children's hospital. Before and you have a
very interesting story with what happened to your, son right,
well talk to me about. It what.

Speaker 20 (01:16:01):
Happened so we were in our backyard in the. Burbs
it's like nicely, pruned so it wasn't like we were
in the. Outback, yeah he got bit by a snake
and he had just turned.

Speaker 6 (01:16:10):
Two oh my, god up in your backyard.

Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
He got bit by a.

Speaker 20 (01:16:13):
Rattlesnake and so you think like you're just gonna go
to the closest place and get anti. Venom but the
closest hospital did not have anti. Venom and the closest
and we were like in the city where all the kids,
are but the closest hospitals did not have any. Venom
so we drove twenty five minutes away to the closest
hospital and they were not prepared for, children so they
couldn't get a vein stop, it and so he was

(01:16:34):
like not making it and he was crashing and so
we finally got transferred to. Radies and it's really the
only reason he's. Alive so they couldn't get a vein
because the venom shrinks their, veins and he was so
little and he got so much anti venoms to or,
venom so they had to drill into his leg and
like they do for like, drugs and they had to
drill into his leg and they finally got or anti

(01:16:57):
venom in, him and then they have a toxicology department.
There but he WAS i was supposed to make it
and we, thought like you just give, it my snake
could be.

Speaker 1 (01:17:03):
Fine but it was not that. Case and so to
look at our faces.

Speaker 3 (01:17:08):
Dropped i've never heard one, here ye are you?

Speaker 1 (01:17:12):
GUYS i went Like Carmel, Valley it's not like that's
where it.

Speaker 20 (01:17:16):
Happened so, yeah so the the idea that it's like
close is not at all Like ramona or. So and
we're like in track. Housing it's not like we're you
know outside and you, know you, know hiking so, anyway
just the closest place didn't have. IT a lot of
the hospitals didn't have it around, us and then the
closest place that could didn't have kid doc didn't have kid,

(01:17:38):
people so, like our only kid person is an emergency
see section and so it was like, this my kid gonna.
Die and so they couldn't get in our. Veins so
then we went To rady's and they have a toxicology,
department and his platelets were so.

Speaker 1 (01:17:51):
Low they're, like we don't know how he's still.

Speaker 20 (01:17:52):
Alive but you, know if he, lives which he wasn't,
expected then he might lose his. Arm and if we
were just, like, well you, know anything is better than.

Speaker 3 (01:17:59):
Nothing but that's where it was the hand or did
he did he see the?

Speaker 20 (01:18:05):
SNAKE i was sitting three feet from him AND i
was watching, him AND i did not see the. Snake
it was, hidden it was in a fire. Pole oh,
Okay and he was on. Cement and then he couldn't,
speak so he just was like. Eh AND i looked
and there was no bitemark and there was no.

Speaker 1 (01:18:19):
Blood.

Speaker 20 (01:18:20):
Oh the only reason THAT i thought something was wrong
WAS i was like my sister's highly allergic to. Bees
is there a chance that he got stung by? Be and,
okay SO i asked my son binghamt and go look
and see if you can if there's any. Bees and
my son was from the other angle and he could
see it from the. Side he was like. Snake AND
i looked up and it was all quailed and ready
to strike, again.

Speaker 3 (01:18:37):
And it wasn't was not.

Speaker 20 (01:18:40):
Rattling So i've heard now that because they're getting, caught
some of them have adapted to not.

Speaker 1 (01:18:45):
Rattle so he did not. Rattle and so we.

Speaker 6 (01:18:48):
Were sitting right there.

Speaker 1 (01:18:53):
And they can strike like twice or.

Speaker 20 (01:18:55):
Distance SO i and so you, know, obviously LIKE i
started freaking. OUT i, thought, well let's get in the
car and go to the closest. Hospital and then nine
one one was, like do not do that because they
do not have. Antivenom you have to.

Speaker 7 (01:19:05):
GO i thought every, sorry, YEAH i thought every hospital.
HAD i don't, know we're learning a.

Speaker 3 (01:19:10):
LOT i.

Speaker 1 (01:19:10):
KNOW i would just think that that's something that they keep.

Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
There why would they not, Well and then you, know
you're you're making so much sense too of like, thinking you,
know this is a small, child and so there's a
lot going. On and you've got to imagine regular hospitals
don't deal with. That it's it's a hospital Like Rady Children's.
Hospital they can actually help out something like. This that's so.

Speaker 20 (01:19:31):
Crazy so, THEN i mean the good part was when
he did end up making, it because it's never been
done before as far as like drilling into the. Light
they Then rady's also like took that knowledge and they
made a white. Paper so now that will go towards
like other hospitals and other Children's i'm, like, hey this
has been, done.

Speaker 3 (01:19:47):
So he was the.

Speaker 20 (01:19:47):
First so, yeah they used different drug, addicts like you,
know to drill into their, leg but they because they
can't get a, vein but they haven't done it for anti,
venom at least In, california and so they know they
use this to make a white, paper and so now
they'll go and help other children because of. That instead
of just being, like, OH i did this and it
worked AND i moved, on they actually like helped disseminate
that to other, people which makes me feel good that you,

(01:20:09):
know for, sure the only reason he's alive and so
and then they're also going to use that knowledge and spread,
it which is which is.

Speaker 3 (01:20:17):
Great that that is one of those crazier Stories i've
heard in a long. Time, now did he have any
after effects or how's he doing?

Speaker 20 (01:20:25):
Now, SO i mean you can see there's a picture,
here but that's him like a week.

Speaker 1 (01:20:28):
Later so it it.

Speaker 20 (01:20:30):
Essentially killed all the you, know it just was like, swelling,
musting and so that's.

Speaker 1 (01:20:34):
Why so he couldn't use his, arm he couldn't use his.

Speaker 20 (01:20:37):
Hand he did occupational therapy and all that kind of,
stuff and now he's able to fully.

Speaker 1 (01:20:42):
Function but he was.

Speaker 20 (01:20:43):
Not they you, Know, yeah so his platelets were like,
thirteen which is like, unlivable and so they were, like
we don't know how he's, alive to be, honest but
it was just like a pure. Miracle and then they
just they you, know they were the only reason he's
alive is that they had all the people to do.

Speaker 1 (01:20:58):
It and then so, yeah it was.

Speaker 3 (01:21:00):
Crazy If Rady Children's hospital didn't, exist your son wouldn't.

Speaker 5 (01:21:04):
Exist oh for, sure wasn't In San, diego even if
it was just like In La.

Speaker 20 (01:21:12):
Because we knew within a minute that it happened and
he still almost.

Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
Died we knew within a. Minute we called that one.
One they got an.

Speaker 20 (01:21:19):
Ambulance we got to the closest, Hospital danna n him
and he still was not supposed to make, it which
to me is just uncanny BECAUSE i think of all
the times that you see a snake or hear a
snake or. Something so that's WHAT i was, Like oh my,
GOSH i feel like people don't.

Speaker 3 (01:21:30):
KNOW i wouldn't we are, all all four of us
are sitting here where our jaws, dropped BECAUSE i would
have no clue that that was the.

Speaker 1 (01:21:37):
Thing with snake, bites it's like completely time.

Speaker 3 (01:21:42):
Sensitive did it turn like colors and?

Speaker 20 (01:21:46):
Stuff was just it swelled up and looked like it
was gonna, bust like it was big on my arm
and just. Black there was no blood and then it's
just was so when when he got, bit it was
black to, hear and then it went black to, hear
and then it was black and it just started swelling
and took over his face and chests and so you
could see there was no blood. Flow so that's why
we were, like oh my, gosh it's going to explode

(01:22:07):
and there's no blood. Flow so it was. Crazy it was,
crazy but he, yeah he's. Now, yeah he took like
hed do therapy. Whatever BUT i was, like, okay so
we won't play video games.

Speaker 9 (01:22:16):
And, yeah so or maybe let's get like superpowers and
like have snake.

Speaker 3 (01:22:23):
Superpowers you know WHAT i. Mean wouldn't that be? Cool
would be?

Speaker 6 (01:22:28):
COOL i don't think so does he?

Speaker 1 (01:22:30):
Now so that was a year and a half, Ago
so now he's three and a.

Speaker 6 (01:22:33):
Half any memories any he?

Speaker 1 (01:22:36):
Does you? KNOW i thought he would have, ever but it.

Speaker 20 (01:22:38):
Does it is definitely like, yeah, so but you, KNOW
i feel like once he's a little bit older than
WE i can bring. In BUT i was, LIKE i
think telling the story once is probably.

Speaker 1 (01:22:48):
Fine you. Know you, KNOW i just feel.

Speaker 20 (01:22:50):
Like like a little bit of anxiety because you're, like
we're never going to be like hikers on The tory.

Speaker 3 (01:22:56):
PIPE i start to get. That i'm okay with. That, yeah, Listen,
wow that is an unbelievable. Story and, again things you're
not thinking. About you would never have planned for. That
you never thought about something like. That but Thank god
For Rady Children's hospital because.

Speaker 1 (01:23:13):
People think like you're just going to get it from
the ambulance and the thought and they're driving around with.

Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
It they don't have.

Speaker 20 (01:23:19):
It, yeah nobody has, It like all the closes.

Speaker 1 (01:23:22):
They Should, WOW i don't.

Speaker 20 (01:23:24):
Know, yeah it's just really expensive and that they don't
have the training to do. It so it's, yeah it
is very specific To Rady's so, YEAH i would say
just instead of buying a gift card that someone's going
to lose or a bottle of wine they don't, need,
like you could donate to you, know something that's going
to actually save a, lot save a.

Speaker 3 (01:23:42):
Human, yeah let's save a little. Kid so please call
right now and donate eight hundred two five eight zero
zero zero seven or text the word rock to three
four nine eight. Four please call and. Donate you'll whatever
you donate will be. Matched eight hundred two five eight

could put it on during the holidays and watch it with.
Everybody so there's.

Speaker 6 (01:25:01):
That, well and with the way this guy's pumping out,
BABIES i think a donation To Rady children's is.

Speaker 3 (01:25:06):
Smart he's just pumping out.

Speaker 6 (01:25:08):
Babies last time he brought the baby studio.

Speaker 2 (01:25:13):
Pumping out babies and comedy.

Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
It how's this going to? Work because neither one of
them know how to run the?

Speaker 2 (01:25:47):
Board that is, true which is crazy because between the
two of, them they've been in radio like fifty.

Speaker 3 (01:25:51):
Years, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
WELL i.

Speaker 6 (01:25:58):
COULDN'T i could maybe fake my way through, it but
that would PROBABLY.

Speaker 1 (01:26:01):
I don't Think emily could do. IT i think your
