Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jacob joins us from Sublime this morning. I was going Jacob, well, well, well, yes,
a return of my old friend Jacob. Yes, listen, Jacob.
I was just telling everybody that I'm basically responsible for
you now being the lead singer of Sublime, because when
you came in studio a couple of years ago, you know,

(00:22):
we had that great conversation of you know, you should
do this, you should be the lead singer Sublime, and
look at you now. Good job kid.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, Jacob, we tried to tell Eddie that we're sure
everyone has told me.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
No, no, that was the first. I was the first
Jacob tell these guys.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
I fully recall it. But wait a minute.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
This was life changing for me. What for you? I
don't know. Listen, Jacob. I was so happy for you, man.
This is what was meant to be. The music is incredible,
love the new song. Everything's been going great. I was
just talking about you're coming to town this weekend. You're
gonna be here in San Diego U Bayfest and the
lineup is awesome, so we can't wait to see you

(01:04):
down here.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
It really is good man. Yeah, there's lots of great
bands in the lineup. It's amazing for us to uh
to play in San Diego. For me, it's like, you know,
it's like my hometown, man, It's where I went to school,
and obviously I also Long Beach as well. So yeah,
we're just really excited to be out there and it's
gonna be a wonderful festival.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Yeah, it's gonna be killer man. If you want some
ready to bring you on stage, Jacob, I will be
there all three days. Yeah, I don't need me to
get in there. I'm gonna check with Bayfest make sure
that's cool. Jacob. I did have a wild thing I
brought up Sublime when during street Scene one year that

(01:45):
we had. We used to have this big thing called
street Scene where we'd block off the entire streets in
downtown San Diego and there would be a big festival,
so different streets had different stages, and one year I
got to bring up Sublime back in the day, and
the riot did break out because somebody threw something on
stage and the boys didn't like that, and so they
picked up these like steel garbage cans that were on

(02:07):
the side and threw them at the audience and it
caused this crazy, amazing riot that I got to be in.
It was one of the coolest things of highlights of
my career. So it was a little it was a
little bit, but it was pretty kick ass. So I'm
not gonna lie. So hopefully, hopefully people I was hoping
people would be chill or chill crowd. Yeah, I don't know,

(02:28):
but yeah, and then Jacob go ahead.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Live recorded correct, so when it happens on Saturday, they
can trace it back to here.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
That's true. That's true. It's not my fault.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
I didn't even want to join.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Pulled on a minute, Pulled on a minute. So Jacob
I also made you know, we made the announcement yesterday
about our big concert, Alter Ego, which is going down
in La on January seventeenth at the Key of Form
in La. You want to talk about a lineup, Jacob, Holy.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Cow, Yes, a completely stacked Green.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Day, twenty one Pilots, Cagy, the Elephant, good, Charlotte, you guys,
I mean, is as big as it gets?

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Okay, cool, we're allowed to talk about it now. Yeah,
I saw. I was chat with Les. I wasn't sure if.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
No, we're good. We've made an announcement.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Oh that's so exciting. Yeah, I mean dude, look at that.
It's it's it's gonna be amazing. It's uh, it's so
cool to get to share the stage with some names
like that, man, I mean, wow, yeah, honestly, you think
about it.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Dude, So, I mean hanging out with Green Day, I
mean they're rock and roll Hall of famers. I mean
that's got to be surreal at some points.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Yeah, we got to kick it with them at Bottle Rock,
you know. And there is a seriality to the whole,
the whole experience of all this stuff, like, wow, you know,
this is really what I've always dreamt to be doing,
and I'm very lucky. But when you're in the moment,
it's just it feels, you know, everyone's you start to
realize everyone's just people, and they're just cool, cool people
that you know, a lot of a lot of folks
in their positions are there because they've been doing it

(03:55):
for so long. They're professional as all get out and
and they're and they're just and they're just down to
earth type of folks. So it'll be good seeing those
dudes again and just having a good time that night.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
So Jacob, now that this is a full time gig
and this is happening. Has there been a moment for
you that you had to go like, dang, this is crazy,
this is really cool that this is going on.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Well right now for sure, Yeah you're welcome. Yeah no,
but I mean I'm half joking, but sincerely like, well,
you know, you just go throughout your life and you
don't really think about what's happening, because just you know, go,
go go. I have to keep going, and then having
small little moments where you get to sit back, reflect
and just be like, oh wow, you know what kind
of think of it. I'm sort of living the dream.

(04:37):
I mean, right after this call, I'm driving to go
to my studio, my producer studio in San Pedro where
we do did this last Sublime record, and I do
all the new Jacob's Castle stuff, building stuff for my label,
Sunburnt Records, And so it's just I'm gonna be there
all day with all my best friends and gonna tell
about this interview and all the upcoming stuff more stoked,

(04:58):
and then dream at Makeout Music and in Los Angeles
and Total Access and Redondo and then and then driving
down to my mom's house on Friday, friends and.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Down in LV. Right, yeah, come on, down, Matt is,
there is there a food spot you want to hit
up when you come downtown, when you come down to
San Diego.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Okay, let's let's get a few things straight out there
San Diego. We need to go. We need to all
talk about where our favorite California burrito is at.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Because this is everybody has their different spot. That's the thing.
There's not a universal spot like everybody goes, Oh, I
got this taco shop. I like this taco shop. It's tricky.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Yeah, and they're all good. Yeah, they're all good, no doubt,
there's no wrong answer. But for me, I'm a rigo
Berto's kind of guy, because that's all right with that
Where I went to school and uh, the boy would
always walked there after school.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Okay, that makes sense, So you've got to hit that
up for sure. Uh. The other thing I really wanted
to know, Jacob, is.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Is there mister Frosty to mister.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Let's go. Yeah, if my husband could live there, it's
it's a problem.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
You have to go to me. I go there. The
first thing I'm in town, I don't I realized. Okay,
as good as I get to town, I have to
go erect that. Mister I kind of want to drive
down today.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Got it in your head now? Oh yeah. The other
thing I wanted to ask you is, out of the
catalog that you're now singing, out of the Sublime songs,
what's the one song that you are now singing that
you're like, Man, this is awesome. I love that I'm
singing this song.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Oh yeah, man, so uh my favorite is all you need? Uh?
Greatest hits and stp Wow, those are ones that, okay,
that are really amblematic of the band, and it really shows, like,
you know, how dynamic Sublime is as a as you know,

(06:59):
stylistically all that kind of stuff. So for me, I
just feel lucky every day that I get to be
up there pushing myself to to improve and be portraying
my pop songs, you know, because at the end of
the day, he didn't get to be here enjoying all
these nice things and playing Bayfest and playing with Green
Day and all this other stuff.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Man.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
For me, I just try to just remember that it's
not a day that goes by that I wish I
could just give it all back and I'd grab it.
He be here, you know, for sure. It's a very lucky,
special thing. Though, because if you think about how much
artist work means to them. To me, it's it's a
great joy to get to be involved in something that
my father, that meant so much to my father.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
You're carrying on the legacy.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Man.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
He's definitely looking down on you, proud as hell.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Man. That's cool, man, I can't believe it some days.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Man, I right on, Jacob. Well, hey Man, enjoy mister
Frosty's Joy Bayfest. I can't wait to see you.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Man.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Hey, thanks for checking in, Jacob Man. Good to talk
to you, buddy.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Yeah, of course. Alright, Well, I gotta go save some cats,
some trees.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
I love you, get right, sure, Okay, that makes sense,
all right, I'm not going to question that. No, you can't.
