Speaker 1 (00:01):
Man, the universe works in really strange ways. Huh so crazy.
So yesterday, you know, after the show was here for
a little while, and as soon as I leave the station,
I get a text from Sky and I know that's
not good because Sky doesn't text anybody. And if you

(00:23):
get a text from Sky, I was like, oh crap,
what I forget?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Yeah, I don't initiate the text threads, and then when
there is a text thread going on with the show,
I'm normally the last to respond, probably an hour or
two after the final response.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Yeah, I saw, I saw it pop up. You know,
it comes up on my screen. You know that I
got a text from Sky. So I didn't even see
it for a second because I was driving, and I
was like, and so my head is spinning. What I forget?
What's going on? Like? Who's looking for me? Did I
not remember to do something?

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Like?

Speaker 1 (00:55):
I'm like spinning out. So I finally get to a
spot where I could check my phone, and all it
says is like, OMG, Ozzy just died. And I went
what Like it didn't compute in my brain. I'm like, wait,
what are you talking about? How how could that be?
That doesn't make any sense. I just did my top

(01:19):
ten Ozzy Osbourne songs that morning.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
What I mean, just like hours before.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
That doesn't make any wild. It's crazy. Yeah, And so
I like stunned and I can't process this information because
it just doesn't make any sense to me, and I
went here, here, I'm gonna give you a lot of
like behind the scenes stuff right now. Number one wasn't
planning on doing the Ozzie Top ten song this week.

(01:48):
I was planning on doing it the previous week, but
we had beat the Geek all week long, and then
something else came up, and so I pushed it back
a week because I was planning on obviously doing this
Ozzie Top ten because of the final concert back to
the beginning, and I went, Okay, well this would be
a nice tie in blah blah blah, I'll do my
top ten Ousie songs whatever. But because it beat the

(02:10):
Geek and all that stuff, it got pushed back to
this week. So it wasn't even supposed to be happened yesterday,
but then it just did. And then he dies the
same day that I do my top ten Ozzy Osbourne songs.
That's just bizarre. It's just bizarre. You know, it's like
I've done top tens after people have died. I remember

(02:32):
I did a Top ten Prince list after Prince died,
and over the years, no sort of done that to
you know, honor them or whatever. But this is obviously
very strange, Like it didn't make any sense to me.
The amount of people that commented on my social post,
I was the first person that they thought of when
Ozzie when they found out the news about Ozzie is

(02:53):
just that doesn't make any sense. Listen. I do have
this odd connection with all the Osbourne and you know,
very sad to hear about the news. You know, Ozzy's
been in really bad, failing health. Yeah we knew he
was Parkinson's as he had all these you know issues
you know, over the years with you know, spine and

(03:14):
all this stuff. But you know, we saw him two
weeks ago do his final performance on stage on stage
and he sounded like a freaking angel, yeah you know,
and I mean he sounded great.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
And people were saying like, yeah, of course he was ill,
but the amount of life he had in him at
that final show they thought was like impressive and surprised them.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
And it just is wild that two weeks later that
was it, Like like he stayed alive to do this
final performance and then what does he have to live for?
And then that was it. Yeah, I don't know, well.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
And how cool that they did that, because God, when
you pass away, especially when you're somebody that big, you
know so many people, You've been influential in so many
other people's lives and careers. And the fact that everybody
got to gather in one spot and basically tell Auzzy
how much they loved him and how much he meant
to them, like that is so special and like, I

(04:11):
agree with you, Eddie. It was like almost like after
that happened, it's like, okay, I can pass now, like
because I have closure with everyone.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
I love you.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Hear about those sort of things happening, like if you've
been married for sixty years and then your wife passes
away and you go all right, well, I guess I'm
good and then you just die, Like how what like
how does that happen?

Speaker 3 (04:34):
But it's a definite thing.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
It happened to my grandfather. He not a year to
the day that my grandma died. Think about that. That's
unbelievable or.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Like the people who are really sick and should have
died like a week ago, but they know somebody is
flying in to visit them, and then they.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Like and then after that visit.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
They go okay, and then they go okay, I can
go now, yeah, and you're good. Wid Yeah, it is
pretty remarkable think about that. You know, he seemed to
okay to weeks ago. Obviously, like Sky said, all these bands,
all these fans, everybody shows up, shows him to love,
got to see his daughter get engaged right in front
of him, and then two weeks later he's gone. Yeah,

(05:12):
it's just it's unbelievable to really think about. But you know,
and I still haven't really heard what has happened obviously.
You know, they're not putting out tons of reports of
like you know, he officially died of this. Is it Parkinson's?
You know, Parkinson's is a strange disease that I don'
wouldn't say it necessarily works like that. You know, it
affects your body, It affects a lot of things. You

(05:34):
don't just die of Parkinson's, you know, I mean, it
will affect things in your body that will take you out.
But yeah, I just haven't heard anything. I'm sure they'll
eventually say, you know what happened, But crazy, man, it
was a it was a crazy, crazy news situation yesterday.
So it really, you know, affected me in a lot

(05:57):
of ways. Obviously doing that top ten yesterday just doesn't
I still can't get over the timing of that. It's
just unbelievable. It's crazy that that happened.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
I told my mom and I told my friend that
didn't hear the show that day yesterday, and they were
freaking out.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
It's wild. Maybe maybe that was all Ozzie needed to hear. Yeah,
he's like, all right, I heard Eddie's top ten. I
agree with it. Now I can go, oh agree, Or
maybe it was so bad he was like, you know,
I took him out, that's why you think. No, I
think I think it was that good.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Yeah, it was so crazy because when I got the
news alert, immediately I sent a message to Eddie and
then I was in the parking lot getting ready to leave,
and so I came back in because I knew Jamie
was still here. And you know, Jamie edits. Yeah, you know,
because I like a sad, big rock guy. No, but uh,
you know, Jamie edits. All our videos does all our

(06:51):
social posts and stuff like that. So I'm like, oh,
I got to tell Jamie so he can get a
post up letting people.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Know that Ozzy died.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
And as I'm walking in, he is in the mid
he doesn't know yet, he hasn't got the news, and
he's in the middle of editing Eddie's Top ten video
to posts like how wild is that? And even when
I told Jamie, because Eddie had just done his list,
because he was in the middle of editing the video,
it like almost a process for him, He's like, wait,

(07:19):
wait what I know?

Speaker 3 (07:20):
So crazy.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
So I mentioned this yesterday as I was doing the
Top Ten that I did a one on one like
National Spotlight interview with Ozzy back in twenty twenty. So
I heart up in La. They sent me up there.
This is where I'm going to get into the behind
the scenes stuff of that day because it was a

(07:43):
wild day and the fact that they even asked me.
I was stunned, you know, I mean, I guess it
sort of makes sense. I've been in rock radio for
thirty years and so you know, it was very honored
and flattered that they asked me. I thought it was cool.
So I heart, does you know these spotlights with musical artists,
and they had done them with a bunch of different

(08:04):
artists in the past where they do this sit down interview.
It's usually and iHeart personality, and then the artist and
they sort of go over their catalog in front of
a live studio audience where they ask them all right, so,
you know, I think they did it with like no doubt,
and I'm trying to remember other artists that they told
me about that they've done it with, and they've done
it with these, you know, huge, massive names, and then

(08:26):
they go over their catalog and say, all right, so
tell us about you know, just a girl, and Gwen
Stefani would tell her, Okay, this is where I was
in my life and this is why I wrote the song,
and blah blah, blah blah. And then they play the
song and the audience is there listening to it, and
it's kind of crazy. So I did you know, did
it with Ozzy? And they send me up there, and

(08:47):
just listening to Ozzie's music with Ozzy sitting literally arms
lengths away from it was the most surreal thing I've
done in my career. So anyway, it was, it was
I remember it was on a Thursday, and I was like, okay, well,
what what do I do? Do I go after I
record the show and they were like, no, you're gonna

(09:08):
do your show live from l A. Your crew will
stay back here, and you're gonna do go to the
iHeart Studios that morning. I forgot about that, and you're
going to broadcast it. I was gonna be there and
you guys were gonna be here. I totally forgot about.
And so I did the show from Ryan's Seacrest's other studio,

(09:30):
Seacrest up there. I guess. Secret was so weird is
that on the board it had like little no kind
of actually digitally would it's said on the mic Seacrests mike.
So I used Seacrest's mike, which was weird. And I

(09:53):
was like, okay, they were nice. They looked nice. It
was like I would say Eddie out every break, every
break you would. So I did the show up there,
and then after that I went down to this uh
special studio that they have up there where they do

(10:14):
these performances and I think the studio held like three
hundred people something like that. Well, and then Emily had
their own cafeteria. He did so I drove over there,
went to this cafeteria, had lunch. What you get I
don't remember. I mean it was it was five years ago.
I think I got a sandwich. It's like a daily cafeteria.

(10:36):
I don't know. And so I went up there, had lunch,
and then went over to the studio and to you know,
go over what was gonna happen? And they have you
know it was they have produced. This was a national broadcast.
So it was a pretty big deal, not a little
bit because I more it was more of like I

(10:58):
don't know what to expect and I have no idea
what I'm doing. Then I was about interviewing Ozzy. Interviewing
people to me is always been non nerve wracking. It
just doesn't bother me.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
But even with Ozzie, because that's like a kind of
different threshold level of celebrity, there would only be.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
A couple of people in the world that I would
get a little anxious about talking to. Really, yeah, it
would be like guys that I you know, like George Lucas,
Jerry Rice, guys that I like, you know, by idols,
Ozzie I love and I love his music. Like if
I ever talked to Eddie van Halen, who you know,

(11:37):
is my ultimate and then I'd probably be a little
bit nervous. I get through it and be fine, But
with Ozzy it was more about I'm in front of
three hundred people, this is going over national rock radio,
and I have no idea what I'm doing. So that
was it. But I was like, you know, if it's
just an interview and I'm like talking about his music,

(11:59):
I can I can do that. I mean, this is
stuff I do, And so I wasn't nervous like that.
I was just more nervous about the anticipation of like
what the hell am I doing now? Like and why
am I here? It was more of that, you know,
more of an existential crisis than it was really anything
else of like what the hell how did I get here?
Like it doesn't really make sense. And so I roll

(12:22):
over to the studio and there obviously is a big
hubbub because Sharon and Auzy are there, and they're in
the back some back you know, stage area or whatever,
a green room and whatever, and they want to bring
me in to meet him. And now I'm like, okay,
well this is a pretty crazy deal. And so I

(12:42):
start to walk over there, and they tell me, Okay,
so you're gonna go out. It's gonna be you and
Ausy and blah blah blah blah. And then towards the end,
we're going to be bring out David Draymond from Disturbed
and it's gonna be the three of you guys up there.
And I'm like, you're adding an other rock star to
this mix?

Speaker 3 (13:01):
And was there anyone else that you weren't told about
or just or just David.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
Just Draymond And so that that throws me off. He's
got a presence too, and so I'm like, okay. And
so Dave's right there and I'm like, hey, what's up, dude.
And so I met David Draymond and I've met him before,
like he had been in we'd done interviews with him
before and stuff like that, which was cool. And now

(13:27):
I'm going to go in and meet Ozzy. So I'm
going to get to that in a second. So I go.
I go in and I Sharon's first, and I remind
Sharon that I've met her before, and she loved it
because we had done an oz Fest broadcast here in

(13:47):
San Diego. It was me and Sky and we were
broadcasting live down from oz Fest, and Sharon came up
on studio on set with us and did an interview
with It was great.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Yeah, it was great, so great son.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
And then after the interview, I walked down and was
talking to a bunch of fans that were right in
front of the stage, and there was a young lady
who came up and said she had just gone through
chemo and beat cancer and she her hair was gone,
and you know, she was a cute girl, and we
were talking and all this stuff, and she goes, man, yeah, Sharon,

(14:25):
I'm just such. She was such an inspiration for me
because she had just beaten cancer herself, and so I went, wow,
that's crazy. And so as Sharon was, you know, finished
doing what she was doing on stage, she came over
and I went and I got her and I introduced
her to this cancer survivor girl, and they like connected.
They were hugging and crying and it was like a

(14:46):
big moment.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
It was a big moment.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Yeah, Like because honestly, when I saw Eddie go down
to the crowd, I'm like, oh, he's going down there
to talk to chicks, Like I mean it, immediately have
this one thought and then when he brings this cancer
survivor up and goes out of his way to connect
her with Sharon, and she's crying and it's like the
moment of her life.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
I was like, oh, look at it is like what
a moment.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
And so I reminded her of that moment and she
remembered it and was like loved it. Yeah. And then
I met Ozzie and that was just it was quick,
you know, but it was like bizarre that I'm shaking
the hands of the Prince of Darkness right in front
of me, and he had like, you know, dressed all
in black, and he looked like it was cool.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
You know.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
I was like, this is amazing. And so I leave
there and now I'm going to get miked up in
the whole thing. And so I am dressed to what
I thought was like nice but still kind of like
rock cool, I guess. So I was wearing a button down,
but it was like a short sleeve button down and
you know, like a kind of almost you know, pebvyeballs,

(15:55):
you know, jeans. I wasn't wearing shorts. Shorts. I went
to it means this fancy event, fancy event, and so
I got my fancy jeans on on the buttonyut. Well,
one of the producer goes, huh, I don't know if
I like what you're wearing, and I go, oh no,
what was I supposed to wear a suit? I don't understand,
and he proceeds to tell me while Ozzie's all in black,

(16:19):
my button down was like a white almost checkered shirt pattern,
and he goes, yeah, I don't like the black with
the white, and I was like, well, isn't that kind
of perfect? Like it's like two sides here. I thought
it made more sense than you know, me and black
and you and black, Like that's dumb. And I'm like, also, like, well,

(16:40):
is this on TV? Too? Like I don't think it is.
It's in front of a live studio audience. But I'm like,
what does it matter what I'm wearing? Yeah, And so
he brought me over a gray I Heart T shirt
and I'm like, what I'm wearing looks way better than
this T shirt that you want me to wear. It
was a T shirt, but he liked the way it

(17:02):
looked better than a white and then Ozzy wearing black,
and so if you see the post I posted the
picture of from the interview yesterday on Instagram. You can
see it Eddie the show and you're confused by what
I'm wearing that. That's that's why I'm wearing that. And
it doesn't make sense to me either, Okay, so I
didn't like it either, but that's why I had to

(17:23):
wear it. And so it was it was a wild
scene because I had an ear piece, because there was
a director, and the director will give me cues to
like go to breaks and like what I'm supposed to
go into and things like that. I've never done that before.
I've done some TV stuff before, but never with an

(17:43):
ear piece and stuff like that. So I had to
like figure that out and that whole scene. And so
but Ozzie was great. He was so sweet and like, so,
you know, you don't think I got I don't know
if you think of Ozzie like this, but maybe if
you watch the Osborne as you kind of know. He
was like a sweet soul and couldn't have been nicer.

(18:04):
A little tough at times to understand.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
You know, that's hard with an interview when you're trying
to do like follow up questions.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
Yeah, it was a little tricky. I mean, I really
had to pay attention. There was times when I could
he was totally fluid and I was lucaid and I
understood exactly what he was saying, and then there was
times like, oh wait what, I'm not really sure what
he said there. So what we're gonna do is take
a quick time out. We do have some clips from
when I interviewed Ozzy Osbourne that we're going to play

(18:31):
for you when we get back on the show. A
Rock with a five three
