Speaker 1 (00:00):
So I don't know what's going on with Sky, but
apparently she says there's been some weirdness going on with
some gifts that she has recently purchased, and she really
isn't sure what to do about it.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Well, yeah, because when I discovered.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
What was going on, my emotions were all over the
place where at first I was considering calling somebody's parents
to like rat them out, but then I went all
the way to the other side of like, well, I
guess this is okay.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
But I don't know. I don't really know.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
So my daughter recently, and by recently, I mean maybe
like a month ago, went to a birthday party, and
you know, clearly, when you go to a birthday party,
you bring a birthday gift. Don't think anything of it
after that. And then I'm not sure if you are
if you guys, I know Emily is, but I don't
know if you guys are familiar with websites like Poshmark

(00:53):
or deepok or anything like that.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
No clue what that is.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
So I just started selling stuff on Poshmark. It's like
a reselling place, a platform, and you could sell clothes
and goods and stuff, and so I started selling like
a couple of pieces of clothing.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Whoa, yeah, but formally for sale.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Oh much, but normally like it's not like Craigslist where
you can just sell anything. I mean maybe you technically
can sell anything, but it's more focused, from what my understanding,
of things that are trendy, things that are a little
more higher end, you know, so like cute fashion or
like these la boo boos or you know, all this

(01:28):
stuff that's in and hip and hop hot. So my daughter,
of course, being fifteen and a half years old, is
well aware of these sites, and she's you know, a
little bit of a shopaholic, and so she regularly will
peruse these sites just to see if she can find
any sort of deal.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
She's got an unlimited credit card, right she No, she
doesn't happen.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
To be a chopaholic. If you're fifteen, they don't have
a job.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
So she clearly just she's she's got free rein then right,
why whatever she wants?

Speaker 2 (01:56):
No, Well, she just okay, she's a look aholic.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
She loves to shop is basically the way. So like her,
she loves going to the mall. We're going to the
mall is like my nightmare? Well me, I don't like
going to the man.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
You're you're one extreme. So I guess if you just
like going to the mall, you're a shopoholic.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Well, and and she's always asking to buy things to
you know, kids, Yeah, I guess so, But she just
I don't know. Maybe it's a fifteen year old girl thing.
I didn't live that life. But she loves shopping. She
loves Okay, don't I don't have to mock what.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
She's normal shop.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Okay, I mean I'm not perusing these sights when I
don't normally I buy things when.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
No one has a play card. Okay.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
So anyway, so she's always looking for stuff, even though
she doesn't need anything, She's always looking. And and she
the other day, I know, I know, I bought her
some shorts yesterday. We're good, Yes, just one pat it
and still okay, not for the first day of school.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
I know.

Speaker 5 (03:04):
Thora has a big rule first school said, first day
of school, you gotta go jeans.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Said, yes, it's eighty degrees hot.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
Hey your son, ree, what's he wearing wear?

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Jeans? Wow? Jeans.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
It's a weird rule.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
So she comes to me a little while ago and
she goes, Mom, look what I just found on deepop
and she shows me that it's her friend's account, the
friend that had just had the birthday party about a
month before. And basically the friend has listed I would say,

(03:41):
about ninety five, if not one hundred percent of the
items she got for her birthday for sale on deepots.
Really because she got a lot of clothes.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
She you know, they'll.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Still give each other these what are those stuff to
animals called I want to say jelly beans, but they're
not there.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
I don't know. There's some thing that's like in and
collectible whatever.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
So these are the things that she's seeing and in
the hall that this gal is selling on deepop is
the gift we got her as well, a clothing item
from Hollister. And so immediately I'm like, does this chick's
mom knows she's doing this? Like this is messed up
to sell all your gifts immediately to cash in. So

(04:25):
I was like kind of hot for some reason about
it and felt like it wasn't right. And then I
kind of did the turn because I was giving someone
else a gift and I now try and be a
big gift receipt gal because I'm like, well, if they
don't like it, they can exchange it and get something
they do like. And then I started thinking, well, is
what this girl's doing on deep pop any different than

(04:48):
a gift receipt when you return something and exchange it,
because she just wants cash clearly, so she's exchanging what we.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Gave her for cash. But I don't know. It feels weird,
it feels wrong for some reason.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
I want to say, it feels disrespectful, but I don't
know if I'm just being old, like an old chick,
thinking this is this okay to do in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Emily, you're on K pop or whatever, You're into South
Korean bands or something. I don't know absolutely what's the
deal about. So do you what do you think about this?

Speaker 4 (05:22):
I think that it's rude of her to do that. Oh,
I think it's rude to return gifts like that. I mean,
especially if did your daughter feel strongly that she would
like the shirt from Hollister I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
I mean, yeah, we took time picking it out.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
But at the same time, I mean, there are her gifts.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
You could do what you want with them, and so
I guess I just I would silently judge them, judge
this chick for doing this, But I would never like
say something to her or say something to her mom.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
For sure, I would.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
You're not saying any no, I no.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
I mean she's not technically doing anything wrong.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Next year, cheaper gift for the birthday, because that was
another thought I had. I'm like, oh, I'm not going
to get like a super nice gift.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Next Why don't you have your daughter ask That's what
I would do, say, Hey, why don't you ask her? Hey,
what's up? You see you're selling all the stuff.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Oh see, my daughter like like she was surprised when
she first saw it, but then when I asked her
about it, she kind of looked at me like I.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Was old for thinking what people do. This is just
what people do.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
If you want money, like you you know that you
can sell whatever you want.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
I get that aspect of it, but immediately putting this
stuff up is kind of crazy.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Oh, Like you think it would be different if you
waited and was like, oh, I'm not actually going to
use that, and then solved it.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
I mean, if you get it and go this is heinous,
I'm gonna sell it, okay, But I mean I don't
understand selling everything because then you have a goal in mind.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah, you're just trying to get cash.

Speaker 5 (06:39):
Why not just ask for that?

Speaker 1 (06:40):
Then? Yeah, ask for cash.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
I don't know. I mean I don't Can you do that?
Is that rude?

Speaker 3 (06:44):
Can you just say, hey, everybody, I just want cash
for my birthday?

Speaker 1 (06:47):
You know, I don't know. I guess. I mean, yeah,
I don't understand. No. If again, I'm not in this world,
so I don't really know, but I would. I would
tell my daughter, see what's up, just just to ask, like.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
But she knows what's up, like like she likes.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
I understand that. But specifically you can't say, uh, you know,
did you not like that gift?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
I mean I don't even think that's the issue. Like
she may have liked the gift, but she likes cash more,
you know what.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
I mean, and buy a different sweater, yeah, or just.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
To have money for Starbucks and seven eleven and you
know all the stuff that they came. They have a
seven eleven right by Lahoya High, so they like all
go to like seven eleven.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Yeah, that's where they get alcohol.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
I don't buy them alcohol, none of that. None of
that happens. So, yeah, she's looking at me like this
is a normal thing.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
But your daughter doesn't do that, so it's not normal.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Yeah, my daughter has talked about starting a deep pop
account and yeah, but.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
You talk about you and your husband talk about starting
things all the time.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Yeah, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
She doesn't know about the shipping.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
She's like trying to apprehended and how that works and
who pays for that and whatever. But this is like
a very common thing now, well, I mean at least
in her group.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
You know what other friendship groups are doing at the
age of fifteen.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
As my sixteen year old, I don't know. I haven't
seen it. What do you What would you do? Thor
I'd be pissed you don't like it.

Speaker 5 (08:19):
No, I wouldn't buy that kid. I would tell my
kid from now on if that person's birthday comes up,
twenty bucks and that's it.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
If you bought Emily gift, which I know is hard
to wrap your head birthday or Christmas or whatever, and
you found out she immediately put it up on her
K pop.

Speaker 5 (08:37):
Site, I'd be annoyed. CAO site, you would be mad.
I'd be annoyed. Oh, because if you didn't like it,
just tell me. Oh, he'd take it. So percent you
don't like it, tell me and I'll buy something new.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
He found out put those socks with the rocks that
you bought it that one time.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
She immediately put it up on it.

Speaker 5 (08:53):
I'd be annoyed because my thinking would be, if you
don't like it, just tell me that you didn't like it,
or just hey, next time, could you get me just
a gift card. You don't have to get me anything
like make it make it like that's not offensive? Uh,
less offensive? Okay, less offensive. I enjoy I appreciate the
honesty more than going behind my back stamping me in

(09:14):
it and then and then selling It's like when Emily
got me that atrocious Tommy DeVito.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
I mean it was thoughtful.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
Okay, didn't end up working out, but it was thoughtful
at the time. So but I wouldn't have went back
and sold it. I made it a dish wreck.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Yeah, I don't know anything about that.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Yeah, so well get ready maybe so you know your daughter.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
That would be definitely annoying, you know, of like what
am I buying you anything?

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Yeah? Because like I wouldn't feel the same way if
she wore it a couple of times and then sold it.
But like The big thing is with tags on, you know,
you can get more.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
This is all like a TikTok real thing probably where
like they're seeing kids do this and sell and then
make money, but they're but the kids that are doing
are probably in like their twenties and it's helping them
pay bills, and they're just doing it because they think
it's cool and it's a side hustle.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Like I'm trying to get money to go buy more clothes,
more stuff.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
It doesn't make sense.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Yeah, No, they just want to buy junk with it,
you know what I mean, not like actual items. They
just want money in their wallets so when they're out
running around with their friends they can buy.

Speaker 5 (10:24):
An idea, get a job.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
About that.

Speaker 5 (10:28):
Sierra Sierra, that's one of their names. I'm assuming that's
one of the Okay
