The Military Christmas Bonus is something that we created gosh,
I want to say almost fifteen years ago. It's been
a long time. We were looking for something to do
over for the holidays, some sort of charitable thing that
we wanted to do, and you know, we thought about
a lot of different things, but when we really landed

on the military, this was kind of a no brainer.
We're a military town, and then we were hearing the
stories that these military members have that are just so crazy,
and so you know, they were incredibly set. We want
to help everybody, obviously, but if you are in the
military and you serve our country and you sacrifice, and
(00:50):
then you're gonna go without for Christmas, like come on,
that was a no brainer.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Some of these stories they're heartbreaking and you go, well,
what the heck is going on. Well, it turns out,
you know, you serve our country, you don't get paid
a lot, which is insane. It's so backwards, and you
just go, well, that's crazy. And so if any kind
of life thing happens, yeah, that's where the money goes,
and so are your families going to go without for Christmas? Well,

we can't have that happen, and so that's why we
started our Military Christmas Bonus many many moons ago, and
we're thrilled to continue to do our Military Christmas Bonus.
So let's talk to Veronica who wrote us. How's it going, Veronica?
Good morning, Hi, good morning, good morning. So you have
nominated who.

Sorry, I'm gonna try not to get choked up, nominated
my husband Alex.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
And what branch does Alex serve.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
In the Navy?
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Okay, so tell us a little bit about Alex and
why you decided to nominate him for the military Christmas Bonus.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
I decided to nominate him because our years started out
pretty rocky. In the beginning of the year. He started
getting like flashing lights and losing his vision, and we
quickly sneaked out, you know, medical attention, and they thought
(02:20):
that he had like inflammation in his eye. And so
for months he was on steroids and different medications to
bring down the inflammation and it wasn't working. And then
they referred us to another specialist in the end of August,
and they told us right away that he had cancer,
(02:44):
and so he had crittal melanoma, which is a very
rare cancer. And then in September he went through treatment.
He had something called black Racky therapy, really had a
gold plate sow and on the back of his eye that.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Had radiation seeds and that that was the radiation treatment.
And so that kind of like slipped our whole world
upside down and we weren't expecting that kind of news.
We have three children, nine year old and eight year
old and a two year old, and then like almost
(03:24):
right after his treatment, we found out that we were
expecting our fourth and so we've been, uh, his treatment
is like three hours away, so we've been having to
with the kids, you know, drive uh three hours away
for treatment and scans. And the scary part about the
(03:48):
cancer that he has is it has a very high
chance of spreading, and usually it spreads to like the lungs,
deliver brain.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
The blood. And so yeah, that's that's kind of rocked
our world.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Yeah, I can't imagine. I mean, it's it's devastating that
kind of news. And we're pulling for Alex obviously and
hope for the best, and you know, it's it's tough
on the whole family. When something like that happens. You
have kids, and you know they don't probably understand everything
that's going on right now with all.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Your no, they definitely don't understand at all.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
They I mean they get, you know that he he
has something wrong with his eye, but they don't get
like the heaviness of it. And he's been, you know,
working two jobs and serving at church on the weekends,
and so it's been. It's been pretty tough.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Yeah, I can imagine. Well, let's talk to Alex. Alex
is joining us as well this morning. How's it going,
Alex good Man, Hey, listen, I'm very sorry to hear
about the condition. That's terrible. Thank you for all that
you've done for us, for serving. We appreciate you no
matter what. Alex, you know this, this seems like a

really difficult situation. But every everybody that I know that
it serves served doesn't complain. I can't even imagine you
know what you're going through, but you know you're you're
dealing with it. I'm assuming.

Yeah, absolutely. I had to take about a month off
work for the for the therapy and everything, and it
put us behind a little bit. But you know, I
try to keep keep on pushing. Got to give the
kids a good Christmas.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
I love that man, and I hear that you're a
big Christmas guy like me.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Oh absolutely, absolutely, best time a year.

I decided to nominate him because our years started out
