Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh man, I am deep in this now. So. Uh,
my daughter Taylor is a very very smart kid. She
is a straight A student. She's doing great. I can't
complain about anything like that, but she is making some
of the stupidest fucking decisions on the planet when it
comes to college.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
We ain't done yet. It's time for the one podcast over.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
A year, completely uncensored and unacting filtered except.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
For that part. The show's after show starts now.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
So I'm a brutally honest guy. I'm gonna tell you
like it is. Okay, So you're gonna hear this phrase
said often in my house. Hey, get your head out
of clouds. That's a bit. I say it a lot
because my daughter she has these visions of what things
are supposed to be. But it's very like TV episode's.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
And I kind of get it because we're about to
have a baby.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
And you think in shows, the water breaks and the
guy freaks out, we got to go immediately to the hospital.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
You're running around, Yeah, you're running.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Around like a psycho. You gotta hear and that's just
not real life. I've come to find out. You could
be at home. What's the water breaks? You have another
couple of hours for.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
You you need to go to the hospital. It just depends.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
It just depends. Sea. Yeah, I didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Remember Sky on her honeymoon thought that. You know, we
get married, we do the whole like cans on the
back of the car, throw rice, and then you immediately
leave from the wedding venue to your honeymoon.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
You take the Red Eye out overnight, and then you
wake up in the morning and you land at your
honeymoon destination, fresh and ready to party.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
I think it was like a week after we got
married that we went on our honeymoon.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Oh dude, that was the worst decision months due.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yeah, we we I did. We got married in November.
We didn't go to honeymo February.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
That's right.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Oh, it was so gross. I was so tired.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
I was so and then because I was so drunk,
I was then hung over and started throwing up. And
then by this and then the the full first day
we were at the resort, I was so jacked up
from the last forty eight hours that we didn't do anything.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
We didn't enjoy it.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Well, you did, because that's how they do it in
TV's and movies.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
We've seen Father of the Bride.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
We know that's exactly what you do.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
She's in that movie.
Speaker 5 (02:30):
Stop it, just stop it.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
I don't know, how dare you Steve Martin, mother Martin,
he's the fronk.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yeah, imagine Martin.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
That didn't didn't didn't realize that. Diane King was sorry,
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Well, I didn't realize she was in Godfather.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Now that's crazy. Came yeah, okay, was going, what no, no, what.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Hey, why he's gonna start doing He drops in Spanish.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
It's English. I can do that. So my I think
my daughter watched Gilmour Girls or some shit. I don't.
I don't know. So she has this vision of what
college is going to be and her she I swear
to God. She said this to us, and we just
looked at her, like, what the fuck, dude. She says
that when I go to school, that I'm gonna go
(03:26):
to class and then I'm gonna have a job at
the coffee shop on campus, and then I'm gonna do this.
I'm gonna do it. And I'm like, Taylor, what the
fuck are you talking about? Like not all campuses have
coffee shops.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
She watched by the bell cards years too.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
That is there a coffee shop.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
No, they have like they have like a a lunch
area that's kind of coffee shops, kind of like the Max. Yeah,
the Max, and and Ac was a waiter, and so
was Zach. While they were between classes.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
There was a coffee shop in nine O two and
o two, right, I remember there being like a little
coffee shop on campus when they started going to college
or something, you know what I mean, You know what
I mean, and they would meet there or something. Really, yeah,
I get it. So that's what she thinks. She's gonna
work at the coffee shop on campus. That's gonna be
her job.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
You guys want her to work while she's in college.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
I do that.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Freshman year is tough from when I hear yeah, probably freshman.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Ja Hey, listen man, they say no free ride.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
I got thrown out my freshman year, and then my
sister had a rough freshman year. Yeah, she got like
freshman fifteen that I'm not gonna come okay.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
But she did get.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
She did get, Like I mean, for her, she got
like a three five gpsh gossip great, No, but then
she got fours the rest.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Of her time. They got to buckle down because.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Because the first freshman year was a little watch so
much party is too much for my sister. It's like
Eddie's daughter that we've heard if she got a three five.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
She should lose it.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
The end of the world. It's ridiculous. Yeah, so, yeah,
we don't put those expectations on her. She does it
to herself. And I just don't get it. You know,
I've never once commented on your grades in any way
of like you better do this. I don't care. Yeah, so,
but this is her plan, this is her goal and whatever,
and so I've had to temper down. You know, she's
going to college. That's like her. It's not even a question.
She's going to college. And I'm like, okay, great, what
(05:08):
is she going to study?
Speaker 5 (05:09):
I don't know, Oh, she doesn't have like a major
in my.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Need to figure it out. But you like, if you're
dead set on going to college, usually you kind of
have an idea because.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
If you're in mindset, you're also somebody that's going to
plan that like and it's going to know, right.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
But it helps to pick your college knowing what you
want to study. I mean, it's helpful. You don't have
to buy any meanings help.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Yah. Well she's she's talked about political science and I said, oh,
you want to get into politics, and she's like, ah,
I'm like, well do you know what political? Maybe you
don't know what the She just like she likes buzz
schools hundred percent. Yeah, and now she's taking.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
What the fuck is that?
Speaker 1 (05:57):
It's like English language. I don't know anyway of course,
yeah whatever, okay, And so yeah, okay, that's great you
want to do. I don't care whatever whatever you want
to do. I'm paying for this thing. Like you better
whatever it is, you better be serious about it. That's
all I care about. So I've had a temper what
(06:18):
we're looking into here because she has done her own
research on like where she wants to college, wants to
go to college, and so I, you know, it's come
up and you know where you're looking. Where do you
think you want to go? And she'll throw out the
most random ship and she'll she'll go, well, you know,
maybe University of Miami, Florida. I go, Miami, You're gonna
be a hurricane. I go, well, what what is it
(06:40):
about it? She says? The campus so cute.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
She saw, she saw all about the U the thirty
ray lewis.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Now. She said, the campus is really cute.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
It's it's cute.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
She looked at it online. She's doing research.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Man, she's been to flor a bunch of times.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Well, Orlando Orlanta.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Yeah, Miami, No, I know, I know, but you ain't gonna.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
Pay tens of thousands of dollars because.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Of places out of state college because it's cute. Nut No,
Oregon has come up. Oh goo, girl, I'll put on that.
I said. Nobody goes over excuse me, nobody wants to
go there. Once I showed her the weather, she was like,
oh god, okay, no, no, thank you.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
When she said Sky calls it her happy place, she went,
she didn't cross.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
It off the list. Stop get out of here. Hawaii
was a big was a big one. Good move obviously,
Hawaii sounds great, right, and I go, But Taylor, you
realize there's no driving home on the weekend to do
your laundry or whatever, birthdays, Christmases, things like that, Like,
you're gonna have to pick and choose when you come home.
I go. You realize that flight is not your you're landlocked. Yeah, like,
(07:53):
but but Hawaii is so great. I've been to Hawaii.
It's so fun, it's so cute. What does this have
to do with fucking colleague? So I'm trying to rein
it in. I'm trying to go, Okay, can we look
at the California schools first.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Well, there's a million, and they're good schools.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Go away like four or five hours and still drive back,
or you can go to now middle You.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Were many schools reaching in the choir kid, So I
mean I could see how this could be frustrating, dude.
So I mean, we have a list of schools that
I mean, you could go local. I mean I understand,
you know, she she believes college, you go away to college,
and so we're just like, Okay, she's gonna have to learn.
I mean, there's nothing you could do. I mean, go ahead,
(08:38):
if you want to go to college, go to college. Whatever.
But we're staying in the state. I mean, you know,
this is a price issue, so whatever. I mean, listen,
she gets a scholarship and you know they want to
pay for it and whatever.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Next to you know, in Florida State, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Hook the homerooms what so whatever. So I'm trying to
narrow down. All Right, you got to look here in California. First, well,
yesterday there was this big recruitment thing for college for
students that they went to. Were like one hundred colleges
showed up and they all had their own booth and
you go. You get pamphlets, you know, and all that
(09:14):
different stuff.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
That's questions Sky, did you and your daughter go talking
about dorms? You guys could be inside.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
We were planning on going.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
It's Sky's going with her daughter.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Oh, I was definitely gonna go, and you know see
what sparked my interest were planned? Oh, we were planning
on going, but we had the big hunted house last night.
So from what I hear, this is an annual thing.
So and my daughters a year younger than Eddie, so
we'll definitely be going next year.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Will you be asking do you have an on campus
Boba place? Oh?
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Well done, that's what Eddie. Your daughter's working at a
coffee shop. Sky's doors are.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
To work on.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Yeah, I do know already that UCSD does have Boba
on campus.
Speaker 5 (09:53):
I've already been informed.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
So are you are you looking for off campus two
bedroom apartment for you guys.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
Or yeah, I would like something with a view, you know,
and laundry.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Beautiful, beautiful area.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Do you have a safety school?
Speaker 5 (10:07):
A safety school?
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Well, you know, mom's pushing a little bit for cal
State San Marco Cougars.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Yeah, yeah, but my daughter has something against state schools
because I'm really mad one stupid ass parents said something
about how state schools are for stupid people, and you see, sorry, Jamie. Yeah, yeah,
my wife went to San Diegos my brother, my daughter's
uncle graduated from San Diego State.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
But I know, like a plus, you're weight cheaper.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
So she has a point. Yeah, so it is what
it is, you know, And so I'm trying to rein
her in. I'm like, okay, we let's start with California,
the California and then we could do the tour where
we go check the option.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
It would be California only yeah, thousands.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Of Again, it just depends, like if she can get
scholarships or something like that, I'll entertain the idea. Or
if again, if you had a reason, She's like, Arizona
State has the best blah blah blah program and that's
what I wanted. Okay, let's talk about that. But there
you just tell me the campus is cute. Fuck off, no,
I'm not paying an extra you know, fifty grand so
(11:20):
you can go and then and then realize, oh shit,
I am three thousand miles away from home. I hate
this and I'm gonna move back. You know. I guarantee
you that would happen. Yeah, So we're trying to figure
all this out. So she goes to this recruitment thing
and she comes back last night and has pamphlets for
all these different schools, and to her credit, most of
them were in state, and I go, great, one, she
(11:43):
got one for NYU.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
And now she's talking, well, what do you even know
about NYU?
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Have you heard? I guarantee you she's heard this on
a sitcom or something.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
She watched Gossip Girls saw that some of them went
to NYU.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Very sweet. I can't imagine her being.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
It would be she would be missering. But she's done
the East Coast credit trip, so she knows. She knows
like the back of ram Bro. Yeah, yeah, she might
live in one of the boroughs. I don't know, what
did you have to talking about? Like, yeah, so I
(12:25):
was going through the panthers, like you fucking taught that
thing out here? You know, expensive, that school.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Is sane you're crazy.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Uh. So we're going through the pamphlets and I'm seeing
you know, I'm seeing some good ones, you know, locally won,
local ones, and I'm seeing some other ones, you like
cal Pauly or you know whatever, what's the one the
Banana Slugs won. I'm s Santa Cruz.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
So I'm seeing all these ones and then I come
across uh what do you call it? U c SB
Santa Marbato, which I'm like, you want to talk about
pretty school? That's it's gorgeous.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
A lot of my wife's friends went to that school
or tried to get to that school and couldn't get in,
so they went to the.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Yeah it is. They're like the accepting Rain. It's actually
pretty tough.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Yeah, a lot of people want to go.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
You want to go there because it's beautiful.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Ya.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
You know party school too?
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Oh yeah, Halloween.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
Halloween, Yeah, Santa Barbara is insane. Oh yeah, that's like
the biggest party thing of the year. Like there's this
whole like street area they close down and have to
bring in all.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
These cops and stuff. Yeah, it gets it gets crazy
for what I.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
I know this. Yeah, they go over here. Uh so
I go, oh, that's cool, Taylor. I go, uh, you
know you need to go to Santa Barbara. That would
be great. Yeah, it's somewhat drivable, it's not bad, you
know whatever. You can even take the train, you know,
something like that. And she goes, yeah, I'm not going
to go there. Well what first of all, why do
you have a pamphlet for it? And she's like, well,
(13:48):
mom told me to get one because never went with her.
And I go, no, that's a really good school, Taylor, Like,
it's a it's a beautiful campus, you know, blah blah blah.
Tell her all these things about Santa Barbara. She goes, no,
I don't think it's going to be on my list.
Why that doesn't even make any sense. She goes, well,
they don't have a football team, Dad, what are you
(14:09):
trying out for the team. I don't understand. What do
you mean they don't have a football team?
Speaker 2 (14:15):
Taylor, I don't get it.
Speaker 5 (14:17):
Why does that matter?
Speaker 1 (14:18):
I mean, it definitely matters.
Speaker 5 (14:20):
Why does it matter?
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Well, because the last few years, you know, being in
high school, she goes to Friday nighlights, an any game,
fun game.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
That's the reason, because it's to go to the games.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Something what my sister Corey was just like Taylor, very smart.
Did was Volunteer of the Year for Long Island, which
was the sh she did.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
And she got into a bunch of schools what don't schools.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Got into is Ithaca, which was like a UC center
barbar school in New York, and she got offered a
free ride educational free ride, but and it was in state,
but turned it down and went to Maryland in instead
because because they had a better journalism school. But still
it's out of state tuition, but also they had it
was a bigger campus. It was Division one, so they
(15:08):
had a basketball team and a football team and all
that stuff, right, so she went there. It costs my
dad an armoral like and my sister too because she
paid for it. But while she was there, they won
the national championship in basketball and went to two final
fours and went to the Orange Bowl. And she still
talks about it to this day about how it was
the coolest experience ever as a kid. I loved it
(15:29):
because I was all into it. They were they were
they were rioted because they lost that championship afford to Dukes.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
They were flipping cars, she caught, cops were on horses.
Wild story. It's a wild story.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
So I'm like, I get what Taylor said, hold on
the experience.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
I understand that, and that is cool. But you're gonna
You're gonna found the TV.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
On Saturdays and I'll watch college football games just to
see the fun everybody's having it.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
It's pretty crazy. I want to go to some of
the electrical Wow.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
State Michigan started tailgating before. I'm in Okay again.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
I'm going to go to school with your daughter.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
I know again, this is what the exact opposite of
what I want for my kids. Ye
