Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm going to share with you an interview that I
actually recorded yesterday just after Broncos training camp practice. We
waited around for Sean Payton to get through his much
longer than usual answers to questions with reporters.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Actually there was a lot of interesting stuff there.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
A Rod had the best question and the best answer
any of the reporters who asked Sean Payton anything yesterday,
which was pretty cool. So I got the chance to
interview the Broncos new punter. His name is Graem Jeremy Crosshaw,
and he's actually the only Broncos player that so far
I've asked to interview this year because he's from Australia
and I used to live in Australia and I married
(00:34):
in Australia, and I just think it's kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
So here's the conversation.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
All right, I'm here with the man, the mustache, the legend,
Jeremy Crosshaw, the only Denver Bronco player I asked the
interview because he's from Australia, where I lived for a
long time.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
It's really good to meet you. Thanks so much for
taking a couple of minutes.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
All Right, I'm gonna ask some ridiculous questions, and then
maybe some not ridiculous questions. Laura or Katoomba if you
had to go for a weekend, or Katum in the
Blue Mountains.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Yes, sir, I lived near I was probably about ten
minutes away from Consumer But when I grew up.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, by email planes. Yes, Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
So when you were a kid, you did you play rugby?
Speaker 2 (01:16):
If so, what kind of rugby? I played Rugby League.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
It's a different version than the rugby that I think
Americans think of. I played that for probably almost ten
years when I was a kid. Then I had a
couple of years off and I switched over to AFL,
which is more the kicking version. Sure, that's kind of
where the punting things started to take over.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
So I might be the only radio guy you've talked
to here who's been to a.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Sydney Swans game. You go, I love the Swans. Did
you ever think you were gonna I mean, what were
your aspirations as a kid with sports? Did you think
you're going to be a professional athlete?
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Yeah? I was always pretty talented in sports, was usually
quicker than the other kids, and so I loved playing sports,
and I was like the local team for us was
the Penrith Panthers, the rugby league team, and so I
just always wanted to play for them when I was
a kid, you know, I grew up. I was at
church with one of the wingers that played for the team,
and I knew it a lot of the guys just
growing up, and I always wanted to be a rugby
league player, but kind of just went looking for other
(02:05):
things found AFL. Started a little too late to play
that professionally, although I feel like I had the skills
to do well there. But yeah, I kind of just
found Pro kick in American football and loved it.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
So how did you find American football?
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:19):
I was. I was kind of just like, what do
I want to do after school? And so that was
one of the things that I just went searching online
and kind of stumbled across Pro Kick Australia's website and
I was like, that sounds awesome. Why not go to
America for a couple of years and just give that
a crack, you know, And so I did, and I
found Nathan Chapman and got in contact with him, and
after I finished high school.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
I moved down there and did the program, and here
you are here in Denver Brockett. Yeah, awesome, Yeah it is.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
How do you feel about Denver?
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Is you know anything about Denver? Like just emotionally? Like?
How was this for you?
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:52):
This is absolutely dream come true.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
You know, out of all the teams that they had
an NFL wall in Florida, and I always looked at
the Denver Bronco. You know, I loved Colorado before I
came here. I just thought Colorado was a beautiful spot.
I originally wanted to go to see you, but went
to Florida instead.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Loved it there, but you know, I love it.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
I'm so lucky to be here part of this organization
and there's something special brewing here.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
So I probably should ask you one football question at least. So,
you just got in your first game, preseason game? Ye?
What was different about that from what you expected? Obviously
you played a lot of football, but first NFL thing
must be pretty special. Yeah, And how did it surprise
you with it all?
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Honestly, it didn't surprise me a whole lot. I think,
you know, the operations and the schemes are a lot simpler,
but everyone's.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Just really really good at what they do. Very detailed, so.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Honestly, it wasn't anything crazy, I think now learning some
different stadiums and how the winds work in those standards.
You know, I played five years in the SEC, so
I played each place twice sometimes three times, so you
understand the wind, you know how to hit the ball there, right,
But when you go into a new stadium like that,
the wind was a challenge and it definitely challenged me.
It wasn't my best performance, but it's a learning experience.
(04:03):
That's what the preseason games are for, and so I'm
lucky that I had that experience a bit of a
humbling experience for sure.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, but we fix it up for this week.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
And we're hitting the ball really well, so I'm really
looking forward to playing at home.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
You're even as a rookie, everyone's noticing your hangtime. Is
that something you think you got from somehow different training
growing up in Australia with they or more even with
the AFL kind of game.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
Maybe AFL is all about touch and having that feel
on the ball and being held to manipulate a little
different than others can so potentially, but it's something yeah,
I definitely work very hard on, even away from the building.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
I'm still doing ball drops in my living room.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
And you know, it takes a lot of earth to
be to be good at this position.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
So I probably shouldn't ask you this because of your age,
but I will great Northern VB.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Or four X, I was a Culton dry guy.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Oh okay, I know a lot of people.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
These are Australian beers.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
By the way, I should have been looking at the
camera one, but these are Australia beers.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Uh huh. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
So it is a bit polarizing that one. A lot
of guys like, what do you what do you like that?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
I don't know. I just do it is it is
what it is. Well, I'm gonna let you go. Thanks
so much. It's a pleasure to meet you.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Welcome to Colorado, Welcome to the Denver Broncos and uh
stroof which is one of my favorite osletoes.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
So wacky little interview. You can tell I'm not a
sports interviewer.
