Speaker 1 (00:00):
Quite a weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Gina and I were just talking about it. Gina has
talked about all the details of the things that made
this weekend so great and so terrible at the same
time over the past hour in Colorado's Morning News. We
are expecting Rick Lewis soon, but if if he doesn't
show up right now, we'll talk with him in a
little bit about the Broncos win.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Gina is clearly making.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Up for the fact that she didn't wear Broncos gear
on Friday, and neither did I, by the way, by
wearing two Broncos shirts.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Today, a little embroidered Broncos I did. I saw that nice?
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yeah, both thrifted and this was clearly like an XXL
that I'm just wearing, very very oversized. So a Bronco's
denim button up and the Broncos shirt.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yeahctory Monday, Yeah looks good, looks good.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I was on the sideline of the game yesterday and
and I will say there there's so many things to
talk about today, and it's going to be a I'll
just say right up front, it's going to be a
difficult day for me. It's like some of these some
of the stuff we have talked about is really difficult.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
But I don't want to.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Start with I would like to say that I really
like Green Bay Packers fans. It's hard to it's hard
to hate the Packers. It's hard to hate Packers fans.
I used to live in Chicago and the cheeseheads were
around all the time, and they're just such nice people.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
And there was this dude. I'll have to put the
picture up tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
This is this uh, maybe sixty five year old black
guy clearly.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
In from Green Bay with the with the cheese on
his head. And then you posted it on your Twitter.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
I posted on my Twitter.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, and he was just so happy and everybody's so happy.
And I you saw I posted on Twitter. I said,
I hope this guy leaves disappointed. I posted it before
the game.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
He had a whole decked out.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
I don't know why.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
It's a sizzle one. It's a g giant cream bab
but dazzled logo on top. That is like a cheesehead
that is taking up a billion.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Notches that you're actually seeing my Twitter post. Look at that,
that's pretty good. I pointed out the Lions fan next
to him, and.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I missed I missed that, so I did get to
see Rick Lewis yesterday at the.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Game as always.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
Hello Ross, Hello, yeh yeah, you were the parabolic uh
what do you call it?
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Microphone older dude, dude? Yeah, that's right, dude. Is the
term best beard on the field yesterday?
Speaker 5 (02:19):
Maybe not best, but but thickest beard on the field.
Ross can grow a beard in what three days? Full
beard in three days?
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Look over there, look at producer Dragon. That's a beer.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
That's his hatesh grade. He's not in this conversation. Man,
all right, yeah, I'm impressed with you. Okay, thank you.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Do you do you agree or disagree with my assertion
that as fans of opposing teams go, it's hard to
hate Packers fans, and it's hard to hate the Packers
as a team.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
They're not the Raiders, they're not the Eagles. That's a
good point. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:52):
People from Wisconsin are so nice almost Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
I know.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
We had a guy on last week from all Milwaukee
rock station talking about the game and he could barely
talk trash. I mean, he was such a nice dude,
you know, I kind of felt bad for him. Then,
of course, the Broncos kicked their butts yesterday. He's coming
on today too, so, oh well, I'm gonna go easy.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
On him, Brick.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Was that the best game yet for the Broncos?
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Yes, it was.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
I said going into the game, that's the best team
they played all season, and it was gonna be a
good game. I thought the Broncos would win it. It
went the way I predicted. I found a stat when
I was doing my game prep that when Jordan Love
is pressured, is the second worst passer rating in the league.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
And with this pass rush the Broncos have, I was
pretty confident that they were going to give him some
trouble and they did and Broncos half it all came.
Really the second half is when they really started getting
after him, and Bo Nicks out played Jordan Love, who's
in the MVP discussion, you know.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
So that was a big game for Bo.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
Four touchdowns and no picks and yeah, man, number one
seed in the AFC, right now.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
What did you make of just how ballsy Sean Payton
was on fourth down more than once and that huge
play to Courtland Sutton on fourth down?
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Yeah, made me a little bit nervous.
Speaker 5 (04:16):
But uh, and I said this in the broadcast, He's
got some big ones which Dave looked at me.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
I heard, Yeah, Dave gave me a gun and said,
what did you say? And then you didn't repeat it.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
That's right because you can hear the broadcast with the broadcast. Yeah,
so that's and he does. Man, he does have some
big ones.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
It's been repeated here.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Rick, Let's talk Riley Moss because man, that poor guy
can never catch a break when it comes to officials.
But finally caught a break with that interception, which really
really nice to see.
Speaker 5 (04:47):
Yeah, and that that pass interference call was that was
a really bad call. He's got a target on his
back because he's had so many of those. That one
was not a good call at all. I'm glad he
made for it with the interception. And after the game,
Susie Watson talked to him on the field. He sounded
like a thirteen year old boy on Christmas morning. He
(05:09):
was so excited about the game. I'm sure so excited
that he made the big play too.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Dude, I don't know. You probably didn't know this. I
went out on the field after the game. I've been
doing this when i've been there and we've won, which
has been every time this year that I've been there
and we've won. Taking still pictures of Susie Wall she's
doing those interviews, and yesterday I actually took a video
of her interviewing Riley Moss and I have I said
(05:35):
to Susie, I have never seen an NFL player this
excited after a game other than winning Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Yeah, I think that's legit. Yeah he was.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
It was so fun to listen to him because he
just was beside himself excited and the whole team. Really,
when you're twelve and two and you're winning all these
one score games and that was a one score game
because it was eight points because you could score a
touchdown and get a two point conversion. Man, it's just
been a magical season. So fun to call this the
(06:06):
games this year.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
So now we're onto the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
And I actually grabbed tickets for this game because I
worked in Jacksonville for a little bit and I was like,
that'll be fun.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
I'll get to see the Jags.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
But no, this is actually looking Jags are a bit
hot right now with a ten to four record. They
won over the weekend top of the AFC South. This
actually seems like it's going to be a competitive game.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Oh absolutely, it'll be competitive.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
Trevor Lawrence had a great game yesterday and now you
can see why he was the number one overall pick
in the draft when he came out of college. But
when you look at the Jacksonville schedule, it's been a
really soft schedule for them, and so at home, I
think the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Do win the game.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
And by the way, Broncos Country yesterday, I give you
a lot of credit. You guys brought the noise yesterday
and they made a difference in that game, especially in
the second half.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Way to go Broncos Country. Yeah, that was pretty incredible.
I'll tell you what this what yesterday's game really did
for me. And I remember a few games back. I
think I said here on the show and to some
friends we're NFL fans, this is the worst eight and
two team I've ever seen. Right, like, you're there, they're
winning very and Dragon would say, no, it doesn't matter.
(07:17):
A win is a win is a win. But whatever
you think about that particular comment, yesterday's game said to me,
this is actually a good team.
Speaker 5 (07:26):
Yeah, And I've said all along, good teams win games
like that. Good teams know how to win close games
and win when it you know, make big plays when
it really counts. So I felt like the Broncs have
been a good team all year, unlike you Ross. But yeah,
yesterday did validates that this team is legit. This is
a legit super Bowl contender. That doesn't mean they're going
(07:47):
to go to the super Bowl or win the super Bowl,
but they are a legit super Bowl contender.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Okay, So that is our social media poll question for
this morning. We usually asked the grade, there's no reason
to ask the grade for yesterday by any means. So
we're asking what is prediction of how far you think
they'll go?
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Are you wanting to share that?
Speaker 5 (08:05):
Well, what if they do get the number one seed,
and as of today they have the number one seed,
you get two home games, so you get a bye week,
and then all you have to do, all you have
to do is when two home games, you're in the
super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
I think, yeah, I'm gonna gosh, I hit. I don't
want to take anything, I don't want to do anything.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
I think I'm gonna put it this way, they have
a real shot at being a super Bowl team this year.
I'm just gonna leave it at that. Yeah, I don't
want to be the guy that makes a prediction like that.
It's a little too early for the record I was.
I wasn't saying they weren't a good team. I just
thought they weren't as good as.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Their record, and a lot of people were saying that, right.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Yeah, And let me ask you one more question, and
this is more from a football fan thing. Yesterday, Michaeh
Parsons and Pat Mahomes toward their acls.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
Yes, tragic, both two of the best players in the league.
Patrick Mahomes one of the all time greatest quarterbacks already
and he still got years to go in his career.
Seventy five percent of ACL tears in the NFL are
non contact, and that's what happened to Michael Parsons. So
it shows you that knee isn't it's just not stable
(09:18):
to begin with. And that's why you're seeing this happen
so often. These guys probably need to do some work
in the off season. I don't know if they do
or not to stabilize that those knee joints, because we're
seeing this happen way too often. And you know, back
in the day, you know, you just didn't hear much
about acl tears, but it happens on a regular basis today,
(09:41):
So there's something that's changed in today's athlete from twenty
five to thirty years ago.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Rick Lewis is a key part of our Kaway Broncos
broadcast team with his broadcast partner Dave Logan, who will
be on the show later, and on field reporter Susie
Warden who will be on the show later. And Rick
of course is morning host on the Fox care Effects,
our classic rock station right here at Mannheart.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
I'll tell you what, I'm jealous of that beard. I
wish I could borrow your beard for like a playoff game.
I mean just so I could just like just paste
it on my face. So you got red Beard here
and you got black Beard here. You guys are quite
the team. And Gina, I'm not gonna say anything there.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Answer always great to see awesome yesterday by the way,
you were on you were on fire. Yes, particularly good
game for you. They're all good and great to see
you as always.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Sounds great. Guys, have a good show. Okay, we'll do it.
That's that's Rick Lewis will take a very quick break.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Actually, you know, you know what I I want to
just go to GENI here for a second. As I
mentioned when we started the show, this is going to
be a challenging day, probably for all of us here
because of this sort of roller coaster of this incredible
Broncos victory and these very difficult news stories over the weekend,
and you know, the thing was there, and then last
(11:01):
night we hear about Rob Reiner, right, Gina, speak from
the heart for a minute. So as much fun as
I had at the Broncos game yesterday, and I did,
that was one of the greatest football games I've ever experienced,
it was also a very difficult weekend. There were a
lot of bad events that happened in different places around
(11:23):
the world, and we will talk about all of them
over the course of this show. I'm going to try
to do this in a way that isn't well, massively depressing, frankly,
because it's probably not what you want on the radio,
but it's also not how I want to be.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
But there's some serious things.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
That we need to talk about, and I would welcome
anything you want to say by text at five six
six nine zero, and I'll be happy to share you know,
interesting text messages on the air over the course of
the show, or even if you want to send in
a talk back, if you're okay with that producer Dagon.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
You know, for folks, if you want to.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Participate in the conversation, if you open your iHeartRadio app
tune it to KOA, click on the little red microphone icon,
and you can record up to thirty seconds of yourself
and you can say whatever whatever you want to say
right and.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
You could talk. In fact, you could say whatever you
want to.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Say about anything we talk about on today's show. It
doesn't have to be about just what I'm talking about
right now. You can send in a talkback about the
Broncos game, and you know the good talkbacks we'll try
to get on the air.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
So go to the iHeart Radio app set it's KOA.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
And then click the red microphone and then what happens
is they show up on Dragon's computer and he can
listen to them in advance and then say, hey, I
have a good one for you about the Broncos, or
I have one for you about Bondi Beach or whatever
it might be, So please keep those coming. So I
think I've told you because we're all friends here, and
I tell you a lot about what goes on in
(12:57):
my family. I think I told you that my that
my older kid moved away to Washington State, and and
my kid's dating someone, and that that person's not Jewish.
(13:19):
And my kid called me yesterday crying. Very sensitive kid
been to Israel for a summer, not my And I'll
also add this, my kid's not particularly religious and doesn't
think much about God. But like many Jews, including me,
(13:40):
the cultural part of Judaism and being tied to this
nearly six thousand year old religion and some of the
parts of the culture and the the focus on life.
You know, when you when you have a drink with
a Jew, you toast, look, I am you. I'm sure
you've heard heard it lahaiam and it means to life.
(14:02):
It's a very upbeat kind of religion, even though there
are constantly jokes about Jewish guilt and yeah, and Yom
Kippor Is is a tough holiday, but really, in day
to day life, it's a it's a very upbeat, optimistic religion,
as much as you might not know that from from
some of the stereotypes. But my kid called me crying,
(14:26):
having just seen the news. My kid doesn't pay a
lot of attention to the news. Had gone online just
to see what's going on in the world. Saw what
happened in Bondai Beach, which is not too far from
where I used to live in Australia. I moved to
Australia some years ago chasing a girl who's now my wife,
so it's not all that far from.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Where I lived.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
And my kid called me crying and just wondering, you know,
two things, why do they hate us so much? And
then also this this person who my kid has been.
So my kid said something like, you know, this is
most likely you know, Islamists Muslims. And that's not saying
(15:10):
that all Muslims are bad, right, That's not what I'm
saying that with my kids, far from what my My
kid is a little bit woke, very you know, kind
of tolerant this all this stuff. But the other kid,
not Jewish, said to my kid, oh, that's a terrible
thing to say, to assume that the that the shooters
were Muslim. And I explain to my kid, it's just
(15:38):
Okham's razor. It doesn't It doesn't mean for sure, But
especially in Australia, there's not very many neo Nazis in Australia.
There's only really two main kinds of people who run
around killing Jews, Neo Nazis and Islamists, right.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Which is a form of Muslim. It's not all Muslims.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
I don't think every Muslim wants Jews dead to many
of them do, but not all of them. So I'll
say Islamists kind of a radical form.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
And it was.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
It was a very challenging conversation too, to have with
with my kid, and I think those two kind of
talked about it and have worked it out a little bit.
My kids said he wanted to go find a synagogue
that was open and go be with other Jewish people
(16:32):
and and.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Be in that community.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
And I said, you're probably not going to find one.
It's kind of late on a on a Sunday night,
And and Hanakkah is not normally a holiday where you're
doing a lot at synagogue.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Hankkah is normally an at home holiday. But I'll mention
one other, one other thing briefly, and I'll have more
to say about.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
This over the course of the show.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
But there's also lots and lots of other news that
we're going to talk about but.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Hanakkah itself is actually one of the.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Least religious, one of the least god centered of major
Jewish holidays. It's really about There is a god aspect
to it, but it is really about the survival of
Jews against a Greek king at the time who was
(17:22):
essentially trying to destroy the Jews and Jewish culture and
the Jewish religion at the time. And the Jews fought
back and won. And so I said to my kid
at the end of that conversation, I said, the most
important thing you can do tonight is to light the
Hanukka candles. And nobody's gonna see it.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
But in your mind, you're going to know, and I'm
going to know that we're not going to let the
bad guys win.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
And then what I did, I said, you know what,
We're going to light our candles here.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
My kid was gonna do theirs.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Later, I said, why don't you join us by FaceTime
and we'll do this all together. Light our candles here
in Denver. Your candle's there in Washington. And we did it,
and we did it.
Speaker 6 (18:14):
Your message bout your son really touched my heart. My friend,
it's good that you're there, and your wife is there
for your son. Always keep that connection, Always stay in times,
even if it's a phone call a week, because he
needs his parents. Happy Hanikah, Thank you, thank you.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
That's a lovely talk back, and please keep those coming.
You can open your iHeartRadio app on your smartphone, set
it to KOA, hit the little red microphone button and
send us up to thirty seconds if you speaking about that,
or the Broncos or anything else that we talk about
on the show. I want to take one moment actually
and answer a listener question. A listener asks, regarding the
(18:57):
Honikah candles, is there a specific way to light them?
And is there any prayer or ceremony? And yet yes
to both, And I'm just going.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
To answer this very quickly, excided.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
You know, I don't know that everybody cares a lot
about this, but I'm gonna answered very quickly. If you've
seen a manora, you'll notice a couple of things that
are true in every minora. So there are nine holders
for candles, and at least eight or sometimes all nine,
but usually eight are exactly at the same level.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
And they're always in a straight line. There's no zigzagging.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
It's always in a straight line, and sometimes the ninth,
which can be on one end or can be in
the center, is a little bit.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Higher than the others.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
The meaning of Hanukkah is that, as I mentioned earlier,
there was a time in ancient history, I don't remember
just what year it was talking about, you know, some
thousands of years ago that some Jews rebelled against a
Greek king who was essentially trying to destroy the Jews,
(20:03):
destroy the religion, did destroy the temple and so on.
And this group is called the Maccabees, and Judah the
Maccabee is the leader of that group. And they were
fighting these Greeks and they ended up sort of being
I don't know if they were trapped or they just
went after a battle to kind of hide for a
while in some caves.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
And they had for lights.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Back then, obviously there's no electricity, right, so there are
oil lamps and as the story goes, for Hankah, there
was enough oil.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
To last one day.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
But and this is sort of where the religious part
comes in, you know, thanks to God getting involved, the
oil lasted eight days. They had eight days of light,
and that Honkkah is called the festival of lights. So
each of those eight candles of the nine represents one
day during Honukkah, and the ninth is called the shamash,
(20:58):
which means attendant. And you use that ninth candle to
light the other candles, and then you ask specifically the
listener specifically, is there a specific way you light the candles.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
If you're looking at the minora.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
The first night, separate from the shamash, which can go
in its upper little holder thingy, you put one candle
in the minora as in the furthest right position. The
second night you would put it in the furthest right position,
and then the next one to the left of that,
and you put the candles in right to left. Then
(21:32):
you light the shamash. You typically, how we do it?
You light that one the kind of the helper candle.
You say a prayer. Actually, let me make sure I
get this exactly right. On the first night of Hanukkah
you say three prayers, and on all the other nights
you say two prayers. The first night of Hankah has
an extra prayer. While you're holding that helper candle, you
(21:54):
say the prayers, and then you use the helper candle
to light the candles that represent the Knights of Hanukkah.
You put, as I mentioned before, you put them in
the minora right to left, but you light them left
to right, so you are always lighting the newest candle first.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
So there's that. I think that's probably all all you need.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
I do appreciate you asking that question very much, very
very much.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Look, there's a lot.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Of serious stuff going on in the world, but there's
also a lot of great stuff.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
We talked a little about the Broncos win, Gina.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
You talked earlier in the show about about Metro State,
which is kind of a fun a fun story.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
Yeah, so obviously Broncos win is great, but sometimes we
have to highlight some other major wins that took place. Also,
don't forget that we will have Broncos Jags tickets coming
up in the show an.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
Hour from now seven. Yeah, half an hour.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
Which if you were listening to the Broncos game, you
would know that, because boy, we were really telling everybody
that you have the opportunity to win this. But congrats
to MSU Denver's Division two volleyball team. They won the
national championship over the weekend. On Saturday, they beat the
who was it Concordia University Saint Paul, who was looking
(23:10):
for their tenth national championship. It was a huge upset
for the road Runners because they were ranked fourth and
Concordia University was ranked second. So MSU Denver's volleyball team
won their NCAA Division two volleyball championship for the first
time in program history. So congrets to all those ladies.
It's a really fun.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
One massive, massive congratulations. And isn't it funny how sometimes
some schools get famous for a particular sort of niche
sports thing like that. Saint Paul's school apparently won lots
of volleyball championships. Congratulations to Metro State right right here
in Denver, all right. I want to have a little
(23:50):
pause here for news, weather and traffic, and when we
come back, I do want to talk a little bit
more about the passing of Rob Ryan, or one of
the true geniuses of television and movies. As I'm going
through this day with you and with Gina and with
producer Dragon, it's a challenging day for all of us
(24:13):
who have to talk about things going on in the
world for a living. And on one hand, you've got
this like the great Broncos win, which is a huge
thing for Denver, and a lot of things go on
in the world, but also a lot of very difficult stories.
And last night we learned about the passing, I should say,
the murder of Rob Reiner, one of the real greats
in movies for the last several decades, and began television
(24:37):
as well, and Gina's talked about it quite a bit.
You got movies like when Harry met Sally spinal Tap
that that music was from that dragon just played. Can
you believe I recognized that was from spinal Tap? And
a few good men? Did you know he did that one?
A few good men? And I'll have some audio for
you over the course of the show from Rob Reiner.
There was some reporting, but I have not seen it
(24:59):
definitively confirmed that the killer, so that Rob Reiner and
his wife may have been killed with a knife, and
that the killer may have been their son. I have
not seen that confirmed yet. I have seen it reported
in real news outlets. Gene, I should just ask you
if you've seen that.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Yeah, so it's definitely not been confirmed, but there's been
reports that that is the possibility. He suffered from a
lot of mental health issues. He was homeless for a while,
so there there has been there has been reports of that,
but no confirm confirmation of any means from authorities. They've
they've really kept I mean, even when the deaths were reported,
they only said two bodies, a seventy eight year old
(25:38):
and then I sixty eight and was a sixty eight
year old, which is the ages of Reiner and his wife.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Right.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
That was all the information they gave, so it really
started to be very under wraps until they finally confirmed
the names, but have not confirmed the cause.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
So I would just like to take a moment and
thank Rob Reiner for this brilliant thing that has become
an ongoing part of our show. And as you listen
to this, I would like to make sure you know
that this was improvised.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
This was not in the script.
Speaker 7 (26:08):
I have to stay on the dock with the old people.
Are hold, hold, hold, what are you doing here?
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Huh?
Speaker 7 (26:14):
What about the other foot? Gotta make no sock on it.
I'll get to us. So you know that the whole.
Speaker 8 (26:23):
World puts on a sock and a sock and a
shoe and a shoe.
Speaker 7 (26:34):
I'd like to take care of one foot at a time.
That's the dumbest thing I ever heard.
Speaker 8 (26:43):
It's just as quick by way. Wait a minute, that
ain't the point. You see what I don't, don't keep
doing it?
Speaker 7 (26:48):
Listen to it. I suppose there's a fire in the house.
You you got to rout your.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Life your way.
Speaker 9 (26:57):
While you got on his one shoe and a sock.
My way, you got on a sock and a sock.
You see your reading.
Speaker 8 (27:10):
Suppose it's raining or snowing outside your way. With a
sock on each foot, my feet would get wet.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
My way.
Speaker 8 (27:17):
With a sock and a shoe on one foot, I
can hop around and stay dry.
Speaker 9 (27:29):
I think you've been hopping around on your head way
way to listen to me.
Speaker 7 (27:39):
Supposed in the other sock's got a hole.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
It doesn't have a hole. I said, it's a posy.
Speaker 9 (27:44):
I got a hole, has a hole? All right, it's
got a hole. It's so you ain't got another match
in pass. So what are you gotta do your way?
You gotta take overalholes, shoe.
Speaker 7 (27:52):
And a son. My way. All you gotta do is
take over one son, all right. If I'll make you happy,
I'll sad all over again.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Pay true now, jee get on with it.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
Oh my gosh, absolute classic. It's been a little while,
but it is a thing. On this show we often
ask guests sock sock shoeshoe or sock shoe sock.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Shoe, And now you know where that came from.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
And again, how unbelievable that that whole scene was improvised.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
Not in this script they get through it without laughing.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Part of the brilliance of Carol O'Connor, and of course
Rob Reiner rest in peace. Mark Hillman here for a
couple of minutes, and then we're gonna give away some
Broncos tickets. So Mark Hillman is former majority leader of
the State Senate. He was acting state treasurer for a
while as well. He's a good friend of mine, and
he wrote a piece for Complete Colorado very recently within
(28:48):
the past week entitled Reforms to tackle Colorado's runaway insurance costs.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
And uh, I'm sure this is something.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
That's worth more than the four minutes we're gonna give
it right now, Mark, But why don't you just briefly
described and in fact, maybe you can also mention your
role with the Civil Justice Organization so that we know
why you're doing this. But talk about that and talk
about why you're addressing this problem, this scope of the problem.
Speaker 10 (29:17):
Sure, home insurance rates and auto insurance rates are just
going crazy in Colorado right now. Wall Street Journal reports
that home insurance rates in Colorado have grown faster since
twenty twenty than any other state in America, and according
to a report from Colorado Public Radio, Colorado's are paying
six hundred dollars six hundred dollars a year more to
(29:39):
ensure they're a vehicle than any state that borders US,
twice as much as people in Wyoming.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
And as a.
Speaker 10 (29:46):
Result, recently, Governor Polis came out with a handful of
proposals called his Roadmap to reduce auto insurance rates to
try to deal with insurance premiums. But those are all positive,
but they're sort of nibbling around the edges. There are
some laws that have been passed in the last ten
or fifteen years that are really the things that are
(30:08):
driving those costs in Colorado.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Well, tell us what those laws are, and also whether
your proposed reforms would be tinkering with those laws a
little bit or do they just need to be repealed?
Speaker 1 (30:19):
But what are they sure?
Speaker 10 (30:21):
So there's three laws, let me start with the most complicated.
There's a lot of those passed back in nearly twenty
tens on unreasonable delayered denial of payments by an insurance company.
And obviously, what it was set out to do is
to make sure that an insurance company pays the benefits
that you, as the person that's insured, are entitled to.
(30:44):
But the way that that law was written, it allows
a third party that's not the insured person and not
the person that was injured, to actually sue the insurance
company if it doesn't get paid what it thinks it's
entitled to. And in one case, a roofer who repaired
a house but did work that was never authorized by
the insurance company or the person paying the premiums successfully
(31:05):
suit the insurance company to get paid for that work
that was not authorized. That's one law that needs to
be dealt with. The second law is.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Colorado has.
Speaker 10 (31:16):
A forty year old law that says that if you
win a case in court, you're entitled to interest on
your judgment going back to the date that you were injured.
That's not a problem, but the interest rate was passed
in the nineteen seventies and it's eight or nine percent,
depending on the type of lawsuit, you can't get eight
(31:36):
to nine percent interest anywhere. So what that does is
that produces an incentive for delaying when you file the
lawsuit before the statute limitations, and then there's no incentive
to hurry up and resolve it. Because both parties know
whether or not the planet is going to recover something.
What they're usually arguing over is how much. And if
(31:57):
you know you're going to recover something and you can
get eight nine percent interest on it, you might as
well let that clock tick.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
And there's sort of a rule of phone by billboard.
Speaker 10 (32:06):
Attorneys that if they can make the case take five years,
their client will get an extra fifty percent in interest alone.
And then the third thing is what we call phantom damages.
You know that when you get a bill for a
health insurance bill, you know that the amount that's on
your original bill is not the amount that you're going
to wind up paying or your insurance company is going
(32:27):
to wind up paying. Sometimes the amount you settle for
is going to be half that amount. Sometimes it's only
going to be a quarter of that amount. And so
when an insurance company and somebody who's been injured go
to court, to haggle over, well, what's the amount that
you ought to be reimbursed. Let's say you were involved
in an automobile accident. It was the other driver's vault.
(32:48):
What's the amount you or your insurance insurance company ought
to be reimbursed. The Colorado Supreme Court has interpreted our
laws to say that the person who was injured can
submit the your regional bill as evidence of how much
they should be reimbursed for, but the insurance company that
paid the bill can't ever submit the bill that they
(33:09):
acutually paid. So the jury goes in knowing this huge
amount that was originally builled, but with no way to
determine what the actual amount that was ultimately paid for was.
And that obviously produces much larger verdicts, much larger payoffs
than what's necessary to simply make the person who was
(33:30):
injured whole.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Mark Hillman, as executive director of the Colorado Civil Justice League.
That's all I got time for right now, But that
was already extremely informative actually, and folks, if you want
to read more, this is up on my blog at
Rosskominski dot com, or you can go to Complete Colorado
dot com. Mark's pieces entitled reforms to tackle Colorado's runaway
insurance costs. We'll keep up with you on this mark.
(33:53):
It's a really really important issue in this state, and
you've done a great job explaining it.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
Thanks for us, all right, thanks for being here. Appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Okay, let's let's give away some Broncos tickets.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
Shall we do that?
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Gina?
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Do you want to do that? Yeah, let's do it.
Let's do it.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
So what you can do is you can win a
pair of tickets to what game?
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Gina? What are we giving away tickets for the Jaguars?
Speaker 3 (34:17):
By the way, that's how Jacksonville says again, not wires,
not Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Jaguars, Jaguars, Jaguars. I never I don't think they heard
the other way, but all right, Jaguars, right. And were
you a Jaguars fan when you lived there? Did you
not care that much?
Speaker 1 (34:32):
Or what? I only enjoyed going to the games?
Speaker 3 (34:34):
I definitely wasn't invested in the team because they weren't
doing too hot.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
When I was living there.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
But it's it's a fun stadium, the t Ia Bankfield.
They're the ones that have the swimming pools in there,
so people can literally.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
Watch the game from the swimming pools and stuff unbelievable Florida.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
So it's it's a little kooky place.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
My gosh, you could see.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Them at in power Field as the Broncos look to
beat the Jaguars on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
So what we're gonna give away as a pair of
tickets to the Broncos Jaguars game this Sunday power Field
at Mile High. And this is of course because we
are the official home of the Broncos here at Koway.
So as I speak to you right now at seven
twelve dragon, we will take texture number what at what time?
Speaker 11 (35:13):
Three at seven fifteen fifteen that's not prime, I know,
text number three at seven fifteen and fifteen seconds.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
And here's what you need. You text five six six
nine zero. That's the number you text into. Your text
must include three things, your name, your email address, and
the answer to this trivia question. In yesterday's Broncos game,
there were two players who got their first touchdown receptions
(35:46):
of the year. Name either one of them. You don't
need to name both. Name one of the one of the.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Two Broncos receivers. There's a clue. There are receivers, not
running backs.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Receivers who got their first touchdown receptions of the year
number three at seven fifteen and fifteen seconds at five six, six,
nine zero. With the answer to that question and your
name and your email address, will win a chance to
see what Gina.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
The Broncos and the Jags you can also call them
Jacks or Jaguars Sunday in power Field of Mile High.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
I was going to say, you're gonna have the chance
to see me on the sidelines of a chiotball game,
but that's you could see me in.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
The nosebleeds because I got tickets somewhere in the nosebleeds.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
But I thought you were going away. No.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
Remember, I wanted to work the sideline, but I already
had tickets for this gamee oh yeah, okay, I knew
there was a reason you couldn't do it.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
Gena and Studio with two Bronco shirts on, and producer
Dragon behind the glass without a Bronco shirt on, which surprises.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Me a little bit. And I'm not wearing one either.
But they don't need my help today. They didn't even
have on Friday prior to the game. There you go,
There you go.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
We've been talking a fair bit this morning about some
of the bad things that happened this weekend, as well
as talking about the great Broncos victory. Trying to balance
all this stuff not always necessarily the easiest thing to do.
But pardon Dragon. Oh yeah, the winner. The winner is Mike.
(37:12):
Mike won the Broncos Jags tickets and the trivia question.
Thank you for reminding me about that, Dragon, because I
always forget and then listeners get mad at me for
not answering the trivia question.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
So the trivia question to win the tay.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Oh by the way, we're gonna have more tickets to
give away in fifty minutes, okay at eight ten, So if.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
You didn't win, just now. The trivia question was.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Name a Broncos player who got their first touchdown reception
of the season in yesterday's game. One was little Jordan Humphrey,
who I think has maybe eight ish in his career.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
And another was Michael Bandy and that was not only.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
His first of the season, but it was his first
of his career, and that's why so.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
Many people just mobbed him.
Speaker 2 (37:54):
Broncos players mobbed him on the sidelines, congratulating him.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
Now, I do have a few sound clips lined up
to play, but I think.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
I only have time for one right now, and then
maybe we'll do a little bit more later in the show.
And I'm trying to I'm gonna just be straight up
with you here. I'm trying to find a way to
talk about some of these terrible stories, like the death
of Rob Reiner, that isn't only just you know, a downer,
and with Rob Reiner, there is so much to celebrate.
(38:26):
And this, of course one of the most memorable things.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
For me in in movies.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
I mean, I know, not everyone's gonna feel like it's
this rises to that level, But for me, this rises
to the level of one of the one of the
most quotable memorable things in movies from a movie that
Rob Reiner wrote, directed and acted in that one.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
This is a top to a you know, use on stage.
Speaker 12 (38:53):
But it's very very special because if you can see, yeah,
the numbers will go to eleven, but right across the
board eleven or eleven, mostly eleven, lamps go up to ten.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Exactly does that mean it's louder?
Speaker 7 (39:08):
Is that any louder?
Speaker 12 (39:09):
Well, it's one louder, isn't it.
Speaker 7 (39:11):
It's not ten? You see, most most blogs are gonna
be playing at ten.
Speaker 12 (39:15):
You're on ten here, all the way up, all the
way up, all the way up.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
You're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go
from there?
Speaker 4 (39:22):
Where?
Speaker 1 (39:23):
I don't know where?
Speaker 12 (39:24):
Exactly what we do is if we need that extra
push over the cliff, you know we do, put it up.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
To a eleven exactly one loud.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten
be the top number, and make that a little louder.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
These go to eleven.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
That is one of the great things in movies of
all times. Gina, how many times have you seen? This
is spinal tap and don't stay zero?
Speaker 4 (39:50):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (39:50):
No, how many?
Speaker 3 (39:52):
Sorry?
Speaker 2 (39:53):
Oh, we're going to start make a list movies for Gina.
We need to do movie night? Would we do? We
need to do a movie night.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
It'd be fun.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
We should all get together somewhere for a movie. The
genus never the Gina has never seen. If anybody knows
the place that we can do that, let us know.
We'll we'll make it. We'll make it a listener event.
We'll get together like on a Friday or Saturday night
so we don't have to wake up super early the
next day. And assuming Gina is not going skiing or something,
(40:24):
and we'll watch a movie like Silence of the Lambs
or Spinal Tap the gen Are you up for that?
Speaker 1 (40:28):
GENA awesome?
Speaker 3 (40:29):
I think it'd be great to have like a vote
in the end. Okay, here's the top three listeners say
what is the one movie?
Speaker 13 (40:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (40:35):
I wish one.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
Should we do this week or this month or whatever
whatever or quarterly or whatever it might be?
Speaker 1 (40:40):
That would be awesome? All right, what are we doing next? Gina?
Oh I don't know.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
Susie, Oh yeah, Susie's coming up next.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
Susie water from last night?
Speaker 1 (40:49):
Oh my gosh, love it.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
Broncos took out the Packers thirty four to twenty six
at home, and boy was it a wonderful, wonderful game
at a lot loud electric stadium. Broncos Country really has
a lot to applaud for joining us on the KWA
Common Spirit Health Hotline. Is Broncos sideline reporter Susie Wargen. Susie,
I think that was a moment where everybody you interviewed
(41:14):
had so much light in their eyes, so much spark,
so much excitement that you would have thought the Broncos
just won the Super Bowl.
Speaker 13 (41:21):
Yeah, no kidding, right, that was very cool, and Ross
and I shared a cool moment afterwards because Ross is
on the sideline doing a parabolics and Riley Moss was
just off the charts, like why, I've never seen somebody
with such wide eyes and just pumped up and crazy
and it's yeah, definitely threw out. It was great with
Broncos Country. There were a lot of go pack go chants,
(41:43):
mostly in the first quarter, but then those kind of
started to fade away as the game went on. So
there were a number of Packers fans there, but Broncos
Country drown them out for sure.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
I'm glad to hear that Riley Moss had a little
bit of excitement and positivity in his eyes after getting
that first interception of the sea and because man, the
officials have been brutal on him as of later. Have
you felt that. Have you felt the I mean we
can see it on TV every time he just gets
really upset over it. Have you felt that in the
interviews that you've had with him, Yeah.
Speaker 13 (42:13):
You know a little. I think that was one of
the reasons he was so fired up in the way
he was after the game, Because when you get a
call like that, and you know, Dave went through it
quite a bit when he was on the call at first,
you know, saying Okay, no, that's kind of you know bs,
but then maybe a little bit. But it just he
really gets targeted. And I feel like a lot of
people think that Riley Moss, you know, they look at
(42:34):
him all the time. And I gently tried to ask
Pat Sutan about it in the postgame thing. You know,
I don't want him to get fine, but what do
you think? And Pat talked about it and he's like,
you know, it's just it's kind of crazy that he's
getting you know, how are we supposed to do our
job sometimes and you're going to call things like that?
So and I think that it does fire Riley up,
and he feels like he's subject to a little more
(42:54):
scrutiny sometimes from the rest and so he figures it out.
And so when you get a victory like that, it's
going to you know, makes it all a little bit better.
Not all the way better, but a little bit better.
Speaker 2 (43:04):
So just for listeners, I just want to try to
set the scene. So late in the fourth quarter, I'm
holding this microphone that looks like a small satellite dish
and I'm you know, going from one side of the
field to the other, one end of the field to
the other based on where the play is happening. And
so I was at the north end of the field
and I ended up standing next to Susie and some
(43:25):
play happened and and I think it was maybe the
fourth down play to Courtland Sutton and and Susie and
I looked at each other and both said wow.
Speaker 1 (43:35):
And then and then the Packers got the ball.
Speaker 2 (43:38):
I went to the other end of the field following
the play, and then I ended up coming back to
the north end again, standing right next to Susie again,
and another play happened where we turned to each other
and said, wow. That was I don't think you and
I have done that before, certainly not twice like that.
That was just an insane That was one of the
most exciting football game, maybe the most that I've ever
been to.
Speaker 13 (43:59):
It was really fun ross. I mean, it was just
so back and forth, and while they're stressful to try,
and you know, anybody could win this game, at the end,
it was really really a good football game. And I
think it also showed to a lot of people because
there's been so much talk about how the Broncos have
been so lucky they haven't played anybody. You know what,
bon Knicks goes out and throws four touchdowns, your defense
(44:20):
holds the Packers defense to four field goals instead of touchdowns.
I mean, there's a lot going on there, and oh,
maybe the Broncos are for real. So I think it
was one of those where things kept happening and we're
like and literally looking each other, going wow, yeah. I
mean there was a I mean, was that a twenty
six yard pass to Courtland that that was fourth and three?
And then RJ got a touchdown after that. That was
(44:41):
a great drive, And just how they were able. In
years past, we've seen them not be able to overcome
some things, whereas this year they're overcoming more often than not,
and it's obviously resulting in a whole bunch of wins.
I mean, eleven in a row is just insane.
Speaker 1 (44:55):
Souze.
Speaker 3 (44:56):
Two questions that you or ross probably saw on the
sideline either pregame or halftime. You don't really get to
see it on TV. Not important questions, but things I'm
curious about. One the scuffle that took place before the
game even started, and two not important by any means,
But did you watch the mutton busting?
Speaker 9 (45:16):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (45:17):
Just missapp and chaos that happened at halftime or is
that your break time that you guys all take to
catch your breath?
Speaker 4 (45:24):
Right?
Speaker 13 (45:24):
Okay, So first one did not get the scuffle. In fact,
I was over there at about that same time, but
then I started to walk back over because it was
about the same time that are one of some of
our guys are going to come out, So I kind
of get in the tunnel and get positioned ass like
and send some video to our to a rod and social.
So I missed the scuffle, but I've seen plenty of it,
So it's kind of interesting. You Scotty from my news
(45:45):
had it where the guys were kind of waiting, which
a lot of times they will they'll sit there and
wait until a certain time and then we'll come out.
But they came out, you know, right through the Broncos
which they warm up in that south end zone there
and then and then things just started happening. But it
was over on the Green Bay side like more kind
of by their bench, So I wasn't there to actually
witness that, but it was kind of interesting to see
(46:07):
the tempers flaring early and then mutton busting. Halftime is
my only time to go to the restroom, but when
something like that is happening, I stay out there. And
so I did get some videos. I got video of
the rogue, the a wall sheep that went down and
read the PA announcer was doing a great job of
doing some play by play with it, and he was like,
you know, doing ten five. Oh, and the sheep literally
(46:28):
turns around right before he gets to the end zone,
which was kind of funny. So I didn't want to
cross into the end zone paint, obviously, but that was
pretty funny. So I did stay out there for that
and then made a quick trip to the restroom so
I could get back out for the second half. But
you got to watch mutton busting because that's just it's
too fun.
Speaker 2 (46:45):
It's that is the single greatest sport in the world.
Speaker 13 (46:49):
And I've got to believe we're like one of the
only ones that have it.
Speaker 1 (46:52):
You know, I don't know anybody else what is this?
But is there entertaining than watching mutt and busting? I mean, really,
oh no, no, there is it.
Speaker 13 (47:04):
It's great. And then what's interesting? And I have some
video of walking behind all the sheep because it's where
I was going to go in and go to the restroom,
and they literally I was showing my husband last time.
I'm like, sheep are just not the smartest me. They
love to be in a pack and people just kind
of have to walk behind them and they just move along.
But there's literally sheep po all along the way. So
when I came back out from the bathroom, there's tons
(47:24):
of people with shovels and scoopers. I mean, there was
some major pooper scooping going on because it's just I mean,
there's sheep poo everywhere. So I'm kind of surprised they
let him do it because of all this stuff that
gets left on the field. But there were people out
there doing a great job. So kudos to all the
people that were pooper scooping after mutton busting, because there
was plenty of it around. The things you don't think
(47:45):
about that you.
Speaker 3 (47:46):
Don't seem truly behind the scenes, you don't want to know.
Speaker 2 (47:53):
I want to come back just for a moment, Susie
to your conversation with Riley Moss and another sort of
behind the scenes things for listeners, and this is just
a thing that came up a few games ago for
me because Susie just.
Speaker 1 (48:07):
Asked me when I was on the sideline.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
She said, Hey, Ross, if you know, if we win
the game and I and then I'll do an on
field interview, could you come out and take a couple
of still pictures that I can use with the recorded interview.
Speaker 1 (48:19):
And I'm like, oh my gosh. Yes.
Speaker 2 (48:21):
First of all, even though I guess I have the
right to go out on the field with my media
credentials when the game is over, I've.
Speaker 1 (48:27):
Never done it before and and so you haven't. No,
that was my.
Speaker 2 (48:31):
First time I ever went out on the field like that,
thanks to your invite. But anyway, so we've been we've
been doing that every time that I've been there, and
other people have been doing it for you, and I
haven't been there. And so yesterday I went out when
you were interviewing Riley Moss, and I took a short
video that Susie has and she'll do whatever she does
with it. But I have, like I said, I've never
(48:53):
seen a player that excited other than after winning a
Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (48:56):
I'm one, did it feel like that to you? Like
this is a whole and you sent me a word gleaped.
Speaker 13 (49:02):
Gleeped, gleaped up. Family just excited like it. I'll just
like gleaped up. You're like, oh my god, I can't
believe that this is happening.
Speaker 1 (49:12):
He was like.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
Real, word, that was just an amazing interview to watch
you do well well.
Speaker 13 (49:21):
Thank you, Ross. I appreciate that and and kudos to
you because I always tell you. I'm like, you got
to just come find me because it's a it's a madhouse.
And I'm with one of the PR people and we
try and you know, find and Dave tosses down to
me and Riley was talking to a couple of guys
and so we're trying to grab him. I'm tap dance
a little bit trying to get him. And then as
soon as we get in front of him, it was
like he just went like eyes were huge and he
(49:43):
was ready to go. He was so ready to talk
about his excitement and what he was feeling and the
crowd and everything else. And I was really glad you
took pictures and you also took video and I'll post
that video on social later, but you got, you know,
a great question where and at the end, He's like,
I'm just so fired up, and I was like, I
know your eyes are oh why, Like I've never seen
anybody's eyes this mighty goes. I know I've got the
(50:03):
crazy eyes.
Speaker 1 (50:04):
I'm like, you do amazing. Well, that was it was insane.
Speaker 13 (50:09):
It was awesome.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
It was awesome. That's that's the perfect word. It really
was awesome. And Susie Wargen is awesome our sideline reporter
for the KOA Broncos broadcasts, and I will I will
be there again next Sunday, Susie, so hopefully I will
be able to do that again for for you, assuming
we it's fun.
Speaker 13 (50:28):
It's cool to be able to bring those moments because
we're all audio, so it's cool to be able to
bring a visual aspect to folks to see, you know,
what we do and where we can go and and
it's cool to show behind the curtain.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 2 (50:39):
And it was because he was so crazy that I
even thought crazy in a good way that I thought,
oh my gosh, we need a video of this.
Speaker 1 (50:46):
So maybe I'll do that next time too.
Speaker 13 (50:47):
All right, great, Yeah, it was awesome.
Speaker 1 (50:49):
Thanks Susie. Thanks Susie, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (50:53):
Okay, so you know, as we as we talk about
this incredible Broncos win and they made the playoffs and
all that, there are other stories going on in the world,
the biggest one being this horrendous attack at Bondi Beach
in Australia. Gina's got a little more for us on that.
Speaker 14 (51:09):
I am devastated because never again has happened again and
this is so sad just see all this happening these days.
Speaker 2 (51:23):
Thank you, thank you Igor for that for that talkback. Folks,
you're welcome to send a talk back today.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
Or any other day. We're probably not always quite as.
Speaker 2 (51:33):
Diligent as we should be at checking them, but we
certainly are today. If you open your iHeartRadio app and
tune it to KOA and hit the little red microphone,
you can send us a message of up to thirty
seconds about anything we're talking about today. You can talk
about Bondi, you can talk about Rob Reiner, you can
talk about the Broncos when you can talk about any
any of that. I would like to just stick with
(51:56):
the Bondi, with the Bondi story that Gina just gave
us an update on. And you may be aware of
a woman named Rachel Goldberg Poland, her son, hersh Goldberg Poland,
was the young man who in the beginning of the
(52:16):
attack on October seventh, where the Islamic terrorists attacked you
know Israeli mostly young people who are at a dance festival.
Speaker 1 (52:30):
I'm pretty sure this is the right guy.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
Was in sort of a bunker hiding with some people
trying to get away from these killers, and they started
throwing hand grenades in and he kept picking them up
and throwing him back out. And I think this is
the same guy. I think there's more than one story
like this. But and his lower arm got blown off
and so or damaged at least I think was blown
off at that time.
Speaker 1 (52:53):
And eventually when there.
Speaker 2 (52:53):
Was some footage that came out before he was killed
by Hamas, he was killed by Hamas.
Speaker 1 (52:59):
He did not get out of but he.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
Was alive for a while in captivity, and you see
him missing the lower half of one of his of
of one of his arms, his left his left arm.
And so Rachel Goldberg Poland became this incredible champion for
all of the hostage families, and she writes and talks
quite a lot about this, and she has a piece
(53:21):
over at the Free Press v FP dot com entitled
I saw our dead son suddenly alive again. And it's
a long piece and I just want to share some
of it with you. But Hamas released a video that
was not made known to the public until until now
or recently because it was a propaganda video where Hamas
(53:42):
showed some of the hostages alive and including hersh when
he was still alive and they were celebrating Hanukkah. The
first night of Hanukkah was last night Jewish holidays. By
the way, if you are not aware, Jewish holidays always.
Speaker 1 (53:55):
Begin and end at sundown. So Hannah began, Hankah began.
It's sundown last night.
Speaker 2 (54:01):
Today is the first full day of Hanukkah, and I
just want to share with you just a little bit
from Rachel's note.
Speaker 1 (54:09):
The people who stole.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
Our children wanted to torture us, and they succeeded in
that mission. Even as we were burying our only son
in the ground last year, the people who had stolen, tortured, maimed, starved,
and then shot him six times decided to play a
video online of him talking during his funeral. Is when
they released the video. Yes, a lot of thought and
calculation went into doing that at exactly the right moment.
(54:34):
I'm just skipping ahead a little bit in the interested time. Miraculously,
all the living hostages are home. Now we are still
praying and fighting for the last hostage, the treasured deceased
Ron Givilli, to return for proper burial. Now, we families
decided it was all right to share this bizarre, confusing
and difficult reality TV with the public. We did so
(54:56):
because even if much of it was staged, there is
still much truth in these videos, and they go through
a name. Some of the hostages in the videos say
they supported each other, They helped each other, they figured
out how to live in an unlivable situation. Such different backgrounds,
but they held each other figuratively and literally together. Perhaps
the greatest tragedy is this. They believed they were coming home.
(55:18):
They believed the world would save them. Their families tried
harder than we had tried it anything we had done
in our lives to bring them home, and in the
end we failed, and the world did too, and we
did not save them. At the start of Honkkah, one
piece of footage is especially poignant. We see Riri, one
of the hostages trying to light honiky candles, but the
(55:40):
candles keep going out. You know why, because there wasn't
enough oxygen in the tunnel, so the flame struggles to
stay lit. Unbelievable. Again skipping ahead in the interest of time.
But this is up on my blog, so you can
read the whole thing, or you can go to VFP
dot com and find it yourself. And she talks about them,
(56:03):
the hostages on this honika where they're trying to celebrate
with you know, little candles, and they put them in
paper cups because it's all they had, singing a traditional
ham rock of ages and most of those folks would
know the you know, first or second verses, but there's
actually more, and they were singing them and someone asked
why so many verses, and Hersh her Son says, it's
(56:25):
describing all of the enemies who tried killing us over history. Well,
now we have to add another verse, adds one of
the other hostages.
Speaker 1 (56:33):
There is nothing new under the sun, says Rachel. In
the footage.
Speaker 2 (56:37):
Hersh also says this lighting in the tunnels reminds them
of a famous photo of the honika candles in Nazi Germany.
The picture was taken by the Pohsner family in Kiel,
Germany in nineteen thirty one. In it shows their Hanikah
menora on the window sill with a Nazi flag in
the background on the building across the street.
Speaker 1 (56:54):
There is nothing new under the sun.
Speaker 2 (56:58):
Hanikah teaches us vital truths about the power of the
few over the many, and about light conquering the darkness.
Well seeing these young, vibrant and luminous Jews keep alive.
They're over two thousand year tradition of lighting hanaka candles.
Even when in the bowels of hell, you cannot help
(57:19):
but feel something. I won't suggest what you should feel.
But if the thousands of messages we have again this
is Rachel, not me speaking we have received since the
videos were released to the public, or anything to go by,
it is something good in these dark times. It is
a flicker of light. The flame is whispering something. If
you are quiet and lean forward, you will hear it.
(57:42):
Did you grasp it, those beautiful six people?
Speaker 1 (57:45):
Did it? Is hope? Hope. It is not a suggestion
or advice, It is a command. This is a command.
Speaker 2 (57:54):
Hanakah teaches us there is light even in the darkest.
Speaker 1 (57:57):
Of times and the most upside down of play, says.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
The camera sweeps by her son, Hirsh, and he says,
wishing you a Hanukah of peace from hell without a hand,
he wished us peace, and the last bit of Rachel's
note or almug Alex, Carmel Eden, and my beloved Hirsh,
thank you for teaching us this powerful and enduring lesson.
Even now, as we are still in so much pain,
(58:21):
you show us there is light and hope. I feel
it and I know it, and I'm grateful to you.
Each of you deserved so much better. That's a thought
I would like you to have on this first day
of Hanukkah. Very excited about this dragon. You said that
you were a little worried about the Jaguars game until
you learn something.
Speaker 11 (58:42):
That you are going to be on the sideline again
with the parabolic mic. So I'm one hundred percent confident
that Broncos win. You got too much pressure to put
on me. Just so we're clear, Well, if we back
up just a little bit, that it's your fault why
the Broncos are twelve and.
Speaker 1 (58:57):
Two, it's my fault.
Speaker 11 (59:00):
Get both positively and negatively right. Every time Ross Kaminsky
has listened to the KOA broadcast team for the Broncos game,
at some point Broncos have won. Broncos are twelve and
oh when Ross listens to the game, oh and two when.
Speaker 1 (59:16):
Ross just goes, nah, forget it. I don't care about
the Broncos this week.
Speaker 2 (59:19):
That's the interesting part for me was the two times
that I didn't listen to the KOA broadcast they lost.
Speaker 3 (59:25):
Well, it's also funny that Ben Albright thinks he's the
reason why. Yes, because every time, right, every time he's
bet against the Broncos, the Broncos win, which is why
people were mind blown at the fact that he was
betting four to twenty mm hmm Packers win and everybody
was like, what has there ever.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
Been a force Go, yeah, I actually didn't go look
that up whether there has ever been Actually for math,
for football math nerds, you can go look up what's
called a score of gami and there is a website
scoreagami dot com. No, it's not scoragami dot com.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
Let me go look it up.
Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
So I get so I can get you the exact
right website, because scoreagami dot com is something else Nflscoreagami
dot com. Okay, has there ever been a game that
ended with one team having four points?
Speaker 12 (01:00:19):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
Four?
Speaker 3 (01:00:21):
Because Ben just keeps making it more and more ridiculous,
hoping that people are catching on that he's always rooting
against the Broncos. But I think some people are still
very confused when he throws it out.
Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Okay, now check this out.
Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
So there has never been in the real NFL era
a game that ended with either team having four points.
There was a game between the Racine I assume that's
Racine Wisconsin Legion with ten points at the Chicago Cardinals,
(01:00:52):
who ended the game with four points November twenty fifth,
nineteen twenty three. Now, I don't even know if the
scoring conventions were the same. I don't know if back
then if the only way to get four points was
two safeties, or if the scoring rules were different. I
have no idea, But I was gonna do something else
(01:01:13):
in this segment. But as long as we're goofing around
a little bit, I would like to ask you a
personal question, Gina. Okay, are you superstitious.
Speaker 1 (01:01:21):
In any way? And if so, how.
Speaker 12 (01:01:25):
Mm?
Speaker 3 (01:01:27):
Probably super mmmm okay, probably with some routines of like
so I guess that's a superstition of like I.
Speaker 1 (01:01:34):
Have to do certain things. Example or that could be OCD.
Speaker 3 (01:01:37):
I don't know, Okay, probably like my routine team of
getting in in the morning, you know, filling up my
water jug and coming in here, turning on the lights,
wiping everything down, turning the TV's like doing that. If
I don't do that, then the day feels all off, Like.
Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
Does it feel like something bad's gonna happen? Is it
just you feel a little off the filter?
Speaker 1 (01:01:55):
I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
Like the way when I made a lot of money
on the trading floor, I would wear the same pants
every day until I had a day where I lost money.
Speaker 3 (01:02:02):
Definitely was superstitious. When I used to run cross country
and I had like a go to thing I had
to say in my head and a go to like
gotta do x amount of lake swings or x amount
of run back and forth or certain amount of jumps
before the race.
Speaker 1 (01:02:15):
You counted them.
Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
You counted the jumps, oh yeah, yeah, and the leg
swings whatever that is.
Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
Yeah, like when you stand and kind of how you
counted them.
Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
Oh yeah, yep, yep wow yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:02:25):
Listeners text us at five six six nine zero and
tell us something you are superstitious about, producer dragging anything
in your like a Viking superstition or something.
Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
I just have the Broncos once.
Speaker 11 (01:02:34):
I gotta wear something Broncos oriented on Friday, right out
of the game, right, and then game day I have.
Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
A couple of Broncos jerseys that I rotate through.
Speaker 2 (01:02:42):
Wow, all right, speaking of Broncos, shall we shall we
give away some more tickets. Gina is the one who
tells us what we're giving tickets away too, And then
I'll tell you how.
Speaker 1 (01:02:51):
You can win them.
Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
Broncos Jaguars Sunday and power Field at Mile High a
pair of tickets. But you have to assume you have
a question I do. We don't just toss them away, No, no, no,
you have to you have to earn these tickets. Yeah,
and it's going to be a good game because while
Rick Lewis did mention the Jags have had kind of
a soft opening to their season, they're still doing pretty
(01:03:15):
good at ten and four, So I think it's going
to be a.
Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
Pretty nice game.
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
So I'll tell you now how you can win. So
as I speak, it's eight twelve Dragon at what time
and tech texture number one at what time?
Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
Textra three at eight fifteen fifteen.
Speaker 2 (01:03:28):
No, you did not do that. Again, you did not
do that. That is not prime. Don't care, don't care.
Oh I hate you a little bit right now, okay,
textra number three at eight fifteen and fifteen seconds at
five six six nine zero. And your text must include
three things. Your name, your email address, and the name
(01:03:51):
of either Denver Broncos player who got their first of
the season interception. In yes Saturday's game, two different Bronco
players got their first interceptions of the season.
Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
Name either one.
Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
You don't need to name both, along with your name
and your email address. Five six six nine zero was
the text team number Texter number three at.
Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
Eight fifteen and fifteen seconds, which is not prime. You're welcome.
Dave Logan joins us after traffic, Weather and.
Speaker 2 (01:04:24):
Gina giving us some updates on the news, including a
breaking update on the Rob Reiner death investigation.
Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
So happy, welcome back to the show.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Dave Logan, Voice of the Broncos, of course, and that
was a heck of a win yesterday. Dave and I
actually want to just jump into some nerdy stuff though,
if you don't mind. Okay, Yesterday, during the press conference,
Sean Payton said, and I think he was maybe talking
about the fourth down play to Courtland Sutton, but he said,
(01:04:57):
this is the kind of thing that annalyalytics doesn't capture,
and sort of talking about why wasn't necessarily a huge
fan of analytics, And I kind of sort of think
I get it, But could you explain that to me?
Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
Well, I would say he was referring to there will
be opportunities during the game where the numbers, the analytics
will tell you something. Your analytics people will tell you
something that if the percentages say we should do this.
(01:05:37):
But I think head coaches have at times sort of
a gut instinct that they allowed to override in certain
situations those analytics, and I think that's what Bushaw was
referring to yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
O J.
Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
Payton also kind of talked a little bit about saying
that we had the better offense, which I think safe
to say when when a win's a wind. But what
were some of the main highlights that we saw from
the offense that really said, Okay, we are no longer
the underdogs. We have a solid both sides of the ball.
Speaker 4 (01:06:11):
Well, I think, Gina, I think when you you look
at uh, you know, you look at four touchdown passes
by bow Knicks. They hit some chunk plays, they hit
some gas plays against the team that really didn't give
up many this season coming in. Now. I know Michael
Parsons got hurt in the second half, and I understand
that that's certainly impacted the game. But I thought Denver
(01:06:34):
was it was really good yesterday at creating some opportunities
to get the ball downfield, and you saw Courtland several
times make some make some catches, and I think, I
think with Courtland, it's it's going to boil down to
when when there are opportunities to get him isolated on
(01:06:56):
a single receiver, a single defensive back, and the safety
is in a position that he cannot help over the
top of Courtland. He's just such a big, dominant athlete
that I think bo is feeling more comfortable just giving
him opportunities to go up and make the play. I mean,
the fourth to three play that basically sealed the game
(01:07:18):
was a perfectly thrown fade route in Courtland, just an
excellent release right up the line of scrimmage against press coverage.
So yeah, I thought they took the next step really
offensively made some huge, huge plays, and they did it
against the defense again, the really good defense this year,
in a defense that does not give up many big
(01:07:39):
plays at all in a season.
Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
Dave.
Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
One of the things that I found so interesting in
your call. Obviously you've you played professional football, and you
coach football, and you do all this stuff, so you
see the game in a way that very few of
us can can see it. And as I was listening
to you yesterday down at the other end with the
ass into the corner of the end zone, the touchdown
(01:08:02):
pass to Courtland Sutton, you made a comment that as
soon as he went in motion and you saw how
the defense did or didn't react, you said you knew
right then before the ball was even snapped what was
going to happen.
Speaker 1 (01:08:16):
Can you talk about that a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:08:18):
Well, I think it's just an illustration of my previous point. Ross.
I think that they sent I believe it was I
can't remember. It was a little Jordan Humphrey or who
was what in motion, But again after the motion, after
the shift, I should say, it was an emotion. You
look out there to the right side of the formation
(01:08:38):
of Courtland Is by himself on a defensive back in
the safety you always look for, at least for wide receivers,
you always look for the alignment of safeties. Safeties will
give you an idea in your pre snap read what
a coverage cannot be a you know, so I knew
it couldn't be any sort of helped coverage, any sort
(01:08:58):
of to any sort of thing where that's safety could
get over the top and be a factor in a
fade rut to Courtland. And that's that's exactly where both
went with the ball. And again, I think it illustrates,
at least to me, the importance of taking advantage of
matchups where you have a guy like Cortland who physically
is just really difficult to deal with for some of
(01:09:20):
these corners in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:09:22):
Okay, So Dave coming up on Sunday the Jags, I
think a lot of people thought of that as a
throwaway game. But the Jags are now ten and four,
and Rick Lewis did mention that they've had a little
bit of a soft opening to their season. But sitting
on top of the AFC South, what do we need
to see from the Broncos in order to really secure
another home game win against the Jags on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (01:09:42):
Well, I mean, I think, honestly, it'll be help excuse me,
how quickly, excuse me, how quickly the Broncos can enjoyed
this game that they just won against Agreement Packers and
then put it away. And you got to move on
to the next game to do it quickly, and you've
got to completely clean the slate in terms of sort
(01:10:04):
of the clutter in your mind about how well you played.
But I mean, Jacksonville is a dangerous team. I mean,
they want to try to win their division, and if
they win their division, they at least get one home
playoff game. So I think this will be a motivated
Jaguar team that comes into Denver. But I think also
the Broncos have plenty of motivation themselves with the kind
(01:10:25):
of season that they're having and a chance really to
continue to secure that number one spot in the AFC.
Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
It was interesting to hear coach Payton after the game
when he talked about his goals of winning the division,
getting the highest seed possible, and then winning a world championship.
He didn't mention making the playoffs as even a goal.
Speaker 4 (01:10:46):
Well, I think with the fact that he mentioned all
those things. You know, winning the playoffs would just fall
into that. You can't. If you win the division, you're
in the playoffs. Right.
Speaker 2 (01:10:57):
You know what I meant Dave was he he has
much bigger he has much bigger goals.
Speaker 1 (01:11:02):
I don't mean it wasn't a golder at the playoffs. Right.
Speaker 2 (01:11:04):
It's like he's telling the team what you just said, like, Okay,
we're in the playoffs, that that doesn't mean this is
just the beginning.
Speaker 4 (01:11:12):
No, that's I think you're You're absolutely right. I think
I mean Denver's going to realize where they are and
they've got to take advantage of this season. They've got
to take advantage of this moment because they've played really
good football the entire season. They're playing complimentary football, they're
getting great, significant play from all three phases of the game,
(01:11:37):
and they're in a position to be the number one
seed in AFC, which would mean they'd get a week
off and host two playoff games, and if you win
twice in Denver where they have not lost, you would
go to the Super Bowl. So I know that's getting
ahead of myself a little bit, but they've got to
take advantage of the kind of season they're having and
understand that. You know it's important to do that this
(01:11:58):
year and not worry about next year of the years after.
Speaker 3 (01:12:01):
Dave real quick a listener asking if there's any injuries
we should be concerned about, because we definitely saw some
nasty ones for other teams over the weekend. But how
are we feeling an injury list for the Broncos.
Speaker 4 (01:12:11):
Yeah, really, Jade, I don't know because the Broncos, like
many NFL teams, are pretty tight lipped about that. So
Brandon Jones left the game with some sort of pectoral issue.
I don't have an update on him. I don't really know,
but you're always concerned, obviously with injuries, and you just
hope the guys are going to be able to get treatment.
Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
Abouts back Dave.
Speaker 2 (01:12:34):
Logan, Voice of the Broncos, Thanks so much for your time.
As always, Dave, I'll see you next Sunday. I'm doing
the Parabolics again, so I'll see you there.
Speaker 4 (01:12:42):
Sounds good, rough, all right?
Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
Thank you, Dave. All right, that is one and only
Dave Logan. I would like.
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
To congratulate Ben for winning the second pair of Broncos Jaguars.
Speaker 1 (01:12:52):
Tickets, and the trivia question.
Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
Was name a Broncos player who got his first interception
of the year in yesterday's game. And you could have
answered with either of our starting cornerbacks Patzertan or Riley Moss.
Speaker 1 (01:13:08):
You don't have to answer that question. I'll answer the question.
You want answers. I think I'm entitled.
Speaker 7 (01:13:14):
You want answers?
Speaker 1 (01:13:15):
What the truth? You can't handle the truth?
Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
What a brilliant A brilliant, memorable scene from A Few
Good Men nineteen ninety two. Maybe I don't know how
many people know that's a Rob Reiner movie, but it
is a Rob Reiner movie. He's maybe a little bit
more famous for comedies, for stuff like this.
Speaker 1 (01:13:38):
I'm do structured up, completely close up in a good way,
and I'm gonna be forty when in eight years.
Speaker 2 (01:13:52):
When Harry met Sally, another brilliant Rob Reiner movie. Rob
Reiner now no longer with us.
Speaker 1 (01:13:59):
As Gina gave it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:00):
Gina gave us an update just a few minutes ago
that a story that had been sort of lightly reported
yesterday but not confirmed, but it appears now that that
the person who murdered Rob Reiner and his wife is
Rob Reiner's son, who has had all kinds Gina do
you have anything to add.
Speaker 3 (01:14:21):
He's been taken into custody as a person of interest.
Obviously not charged or confirmed in any way, but that
was something that was being like you said, report it's
a little bit yesterday. Now we're seeing New York Post
and TMZ. I'm usually hesitant. I'm not gonna lie. I'm
usually hesitant when it's just TMZ. But I started to
see more outlets saying that the Sun has been taken
into custody. Not sure when the next you know, update
(01:14:44):
or press conference or anything like that's really gonna happen.
But yeah, uh, it really was. They had a tumultuous relationship,
you know, and the son really dealt with a lot
of issues, So I think it was something that people speculated.
Now we're no that he is taken into custody as
a person of interest, We'll have to kind of follow
what happens from there.
Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
Rob Reiner had just an incredible career. I mean, going
back well, he got famous first with All in the Family,
but he was in TV for a while before that,
mostly as a writer for Smothers Brothers and things like that.
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
I want to play one other audio thing for.
Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
You, and this is an interview from I Guess a
couple months back following the assassination of Charlie Kirk. And
this is Rob Reiner talking with Piers Morgan. And before
I play this, let me just say one other thing
(01:15:44):
that I noticed on x formerly Twitter yesterday. I don't
want to go too far down this road, but just
a brief mention. So, after Charlie Kirk was killed, there
were a lot of people, far too many people who
who said terrible things on social media about how much
(01:16:04):
they hated him and they were glad he died.
Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
And it was a very bad look for.
Speaker 2 (01:16:13):
One side of the political aisle, and they were not
all doing it as a minority of people. It was
also I think it was a bad look for America.
You know, the idea that you're gonna cheer the death
of someone who had never committed violence, never called for violence,
just the opposite, and was made it his mission to
(01:16:34):
get people to talk to each other about contentious issues.
But those, of course are the ones you most want
people to talk to each other about, so that you
don't think so that nobody thinks that the right way
to deal with these things is to settle them through violence.
And you had many people who disagreed with Charlie Kirk
politically cheering.
Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
His assassination, and I thought that was terrible, terrible.
Speaker 2 (01:17:01):
Now, Rob Reiner was fairly outspoken politically and very much
on the left, very much a Trump had, an anti
Republican generally, And what I saw on Twitter yesterday on
X yesterday was really fascinating. It was one conservative after
(01:17:24):
another saying Rob Reiner's politics don't matter, Rest in peace.
Speaker 1 (01:17:30):
What a tragedy that he was murdered.
Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
He was a brilliant writer, director, even actor, comedian in
his own way, and it's a tragedy that he's gone
and his politics are irrelevant.
Speaker 1 (01:17:46):
And I think that's all. I think that's all true.
Speaker 2 (01:17:48):
And it's not that people on the political right always
cover themselves in glory in situations where you know, often
in situations where somebody can make a comment that maybe
they would wish and other people would certainly wish that
they didn't make. You didn't see much of that yesterday,
and I'm grateful for that. I'm grateful that some of
(01:18:09):
this maybe kindness seems to be seeping in. And what
I wanted to share with you is this minute ish
of audio Rob Reiner in conversation with Piers Morgan. And
again keep in mind that Rob Reiner's politics could not
(01:18:33):
have differed any more than they did from the politics
of Charlie Kirk.
Speaker 1 (01:18:39):
You first heard about the murder of Charlie Kirk, what
was your immediate got reaction to it?
Speaker 15 (01:18:47):
Well, horror, absolute horror, And I unfortunately saw the video
of it, and it's beyond below what happened to him,
and that had never happened to anybody. I don't care
what your political beliefs are. That's not acceptable. That's not
(01:19:09):
a solution to solving problems. And I felt like what
his wife said at the service, that the memorial they
had was exactly right and totally I believe.
Speaker 1 (01:19:23):
You know, I'm Jewish, but.
Speaker 15 (01:19:25):
I I believe in the teachings of Jesus, and I
believe in doing to others, and I believe in forgiveness.
And what she said to me was beautiful and absolutely
you know what she she forgave his his assassin, and
I think that that is admirable.
Speaker 1 (01:19:48):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
All right, So that was Rob Reiner talking about Charlie Kirk,
and I think Rob Reiner.
Speaker 1 (01:19:54):
Said it absolutely perfectly.
Speaker 2 (01:19:57):
Now, Gina just handed me some breaking news here on
this story.
Speaker 1 (01:20:02):
And I'm just gonna say this very briefly.
Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
So apparently President Trump is claiming that Rob Reiner was
killed because of quote unquote Trump derangement syndrome. And according
to this twenty four to seven News news release here,
he went on to claim he, meaning Trump, that Rob
(01:20:26):
Reiner's death was reportedly due to the anger he caused
others through his massive, unyielding and incurable affliction with a
mind crippling disease known as Trump arrangement syndrome. So I
would just like to say that that's one of the
dumbest and worst things I've ever heard Donald Trump say.
And that's, you know, and I've heard Donald Trump say
a lot of dumb things, and a lot of nasty things,
(01:20:47):
and a lot of ignorant things.
Speaker 1 (01:20:49):
And a lot of lies.
Speaker 2 (01:20:51):
He Trump says nasty things and lies all the time,
But this is kind of a new level even for him.
And I've got no use and no patience for it.
And it's not true. Again, we know Rob Reiner's politics
were on the left, but as far as we know now,
his politics had nothing whatsoever to do with why he
(01:21:14):
passed away.
Speaker 1 (01:21:15):
And I sure wish we had.
Speaker 2 (01:21:17):
A president who was better than this at moments like this,
Rosskaminsky dot Com.
Speaker 1 (01:21:23):
Just just scroll down there. It's absolutely great.
Speaker 2 (01:21:26):
Reminds me of his words, remind me a little bit
of the South Park episode about a lonely Jew on Christmas.
Speaker 1 (01:21:32):
Which is just fabulous.
Speaker 2 (01:21:34):
I would like to take our last ninety seconds here
just talking about the Bondai thing, but in a way
that's not you know, we know what the terrible news is.
What I want you to know, and you've probably heard
it on the news, is about this man named Ahmed
al Ahmed. He is an Australian citizen who was born
(01:21:56):
in Syria who owns a fruit stand or a fruit
shop near Bondi Beach, and he happened to be near
Bondai Beach when the shooting happened. Was started happening, and
mister Ahmed, who I presume is Muslim, jumped.
Speaker 1 (01:22:16):
In and tackled one of the two shooters.
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
The shooters are father and son, by the way, tackled
and disarmed one of them.
Speaker 1 (01:22:24):
He got shot by the other shooter. Quite certain he
will be okay.
Speaker 2 (01:22:30):
I think he was only only shot in the arm,
in the hand he'll be all right. What an absolute hero,
an absolute hero, This man, a Muslim, jumped in to
protect Jews. And there's some fabulous stories out there, and
(01:22:50):
I don't have time to share them all with you,
but there's a piece that you can read on my
blog from the Jerusalem Post, an opinion piece. She said,
if there were a Jewish noble prize for saving Jews,
mister Ahmed al Ahmed just won it. And it's just
an incredible story. And the other thing that I just
want to share with you, there was a go fund
(01:23:12):
me that was started to help this man. He's in
the hospital now. One of his relatives said, he's very sedated.
He's not speaking very well right now. And this go
fund me has so far raised just under one and
a half million dollars, of which one hundred thousand came
(01:23:33):
from Bill Ackman, a Jewish billionaire here in the United
States of America.
Speaker 1 (01:23:39):
Incredible.
Speaker 2 (01:23:41):
Let me just share this very very briefly and then
we'll call it today after witness is from the GoFundMe,
after witnessing the extraordinary actions of the hero who helped
disarm one of the attackers during the Bondai tragedy, an
act that prevented the loss of countless moral lives.
Speaker 1 (01:23:55):
We felt compelled to act.
Speaker 2 (01:23:58):
In a moment of chaos and day he stepped forward
without hesitation. His actions were selfless, instinctive, and undeniably heroic,
taken without regard for his own safety. Early reports indicate
he was shot twice in the process while protecting others.
This GoFundMe has been created to show our gratitude and
support for someone who demonstrated incredible courage when it mattered most,
(01:24:20):
and that my friends has thought.
Speaker 1 (01:24:22):
I would like to leave us all.
Speaker 2 (01:24:24):
With today, during this first full day of Hanukkah, Gina Dragon,
thank you so much for another show. Thank you for
helping me through what was really a rather difficult show
for me.
Speaker 1 (01:24:35):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (01:24:36):
Thanks for giving all of our listeners what they need
to know in this situation, because I have a feeling
a lot of them may not be able to relate
to it like you can, but to have the courage
to speak about it and let people know what they
need to know speaks volumes.
Speaker 1 (01:24:50):
Thank you keep it here on Kawe
