Speaker 1 (00:00):
I would like to say that I really like Green
Bay Packers fans. It's hard to it's hard to hate
the Packers. It's hard to hate Packers fans. I used
to live in Chicago and the cheeseheads were around all
the time, and they're just such nice people.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
And there was this dude. I'll have to put the
picture up tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
This this uh, maybe sixty five year old black guy
clearly in from Green Bay with the with the cheese
on his head, and that you posted it on your Twitter.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Yeah, I posted on my Twitter.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Yeah, and he was just so happy and everybody's so happy,
and I I, you saw I posted on Twitter. I said,
I hope this guy leaves disappointed.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
I posted it before the game. He had a whole
decked out.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
I don't know why.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
It's a sizzle on Yeah, it's it's a giant cream
babe be dazzled logo on top that is like a
cheesehead that is taking up a billion notches with that.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
You're actually seeing my Twitter post yet that that's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
I pointed out the Lions fan next to him, and.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
I missed. I missed that.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
So I did get to see Rick Lewis yesterday at
the game as always, Hello Ross, Hello, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Yeah, you were the parabolic what do you call it,
microphone older.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Dude, dude, Yeah, that's right, dude.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Is the term best beard on the field yesterday? Maybe
not best, but but thickest beard on the field. Ross
can grow a beard in what three days? Full beard
in three days?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Look over there, look at producer Dragon. He said, that's
a beer head. That's his haighth grade. He's not in
this conversation, man. All right, yeah, I'm impressed with you. Okay,
thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Do you do you agree or disagree with my assertion
that as fans of opposing teams go, it's hard to
hate Packers fans, and it's hard.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
To hate the Packers as a team. They're not the Raiders,
they're not the Eagles. That's a good point. Yeah, people
from Wisconsin are so nice almost Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
I know.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
We had a guy on last week from Milwaukee rock
station talking about the game and he could barely talk trash.
I mean, he was such a nice dude, you know,
I kind of felt bad for him. Then, of course,
the Broncos kicked their butts yesterday. He's coming on today too,
so oh well, I'm gonna go easy.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
On him, Brick.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Was that the best game yet for the Broncos.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yes, it was.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
I said going into the game, that's the best team
they played all season, and it was gonna be a
good game. I thought the Broncos would win it. It
went the way I predicted. I found a stat when
I was doing my game prep that when Jordan Love
is pressured, is the second worst passer rating in the league.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Wow. And with this pass.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Rush the Broncos have, I was pretty confident that they
were going to give him some trouble and they did
and Broncos half it all came. Really the second half
is when they really started getting after him and Bo Nicks.
I'll play Jordan Love, who's in the MVP discussion, you know.
So that was a big game for both touchdowns and
opicks And yeah, man, number one seed in the AFC,

(03:04):
right now, what did.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
You make of just how ballsy Sean Payton was on
fourth down more than once and that huge play to
Courtland Sutton on fourth down?

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yeah made me a little bit nervous.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
But uh, and I said this in the broadcast, He's
got some big ones, which Dave looked at me.

Speaker 5 (03:22):
I heard, Yeah, Dave gave me a kun of and said,
what did you say? And then you didn't repeat it? Yeah,
that's right because you can hear the broadcast with the broadcast. Yeah,
so that and he does. Man, he does have some
big ones.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
It's been repeated here. Rick, Let's talk.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Riley Moss because man, that poor guy can never catch
a break when it comes to officials. But finally caught
a break with that interception, which is really really nice
to see.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Yeah, and that that pass interference car was that was
a really bad call. He's got a target on his
back because he's had so many of those. That one
was not a good call at all. I'm glad he
for it with the interception. And after the game, Susie
Watchen talked to him on the field. He sounded like
a thirteen year old boy on Christmas morning. He was

(04:09):
so excited about the game. I'm sure so excited that
he made the big play too.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Dude, I don't know. You probably didn't know this. I
went out on the field after the game. I've been
doing this when i've been there and we've won, which
has been every time this year that I've been there
and we've won. Taking still pictures of Susie Wall she's
doing those interviews, and yesterday I actually took a video
of her interviewing Riley Moss and I have I said

(04:35):
to Susie, I have never seen an NFL player this
excited after a game other than winning Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yeah, I think that's legit. Yeah he was.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
It was so fun to listen to him because he
just was beside himself excited and the whole team. Really,
when you're twelve and two and you're winning all these
one score games and that was a one score game
because it was eight points because you could score a
touchdown and get a two point conversion. Man, it's just
been a magical season. So fun to call this the

(05:06):
games this year.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
So now we're onto the Jacksonville Jaguars and I actually
grabbed tickets for this game because I worked in Jacksonville
for a little bit and I was like, that'll be fun.
I'll get to see the Jags. But no, this is
actually looking Jags are a bit hot right now with
a ten to four record. They won over the weekend
top of the AFC South. This actually seems like it's
going to be a competitive game.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Oh, absolutely, it'll be competitive.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
Trevor Lawrence had a great game yesterday and now you
can see why he was the number one overall pick
in the draft when he came out of college.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
But when you look at the Jacksonville.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Schedule, it's been a really soft schedule for them, and
so at home, I think the Broncos do win the game.
And by the way, Broncos Country yesterday, I give you
a lot of credit. You guys brought the noise yesterday
and they made a difference in that game, especially in
the second half.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Way to go Broncos Country.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Yeah, that was pretty incredible. I'll tell you what this
what yesterday's game really did for me. And I remember
a few games back. I think I said here on
the show and to some friends we're NFL fans, this
is the worst eight and two team I've ever seen. Right, like,
you're there, they're winning very and Dragon would say, no,
it doesn't matter. A win is a win is a win.

(06:19):
But whatever you think about that particular comment, yesterday's game
said to me, this is actually a good team.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Yeah, And I've said all along, good teams win games
like that. Good teams know how to win close games
and win when it you know, make big plays when
it really counts. So I felt like the Bronx have
been a good team all year, unlike you Ross. But yeah,
yesterday did validates that this team is legit. This is
a legit super Bowl contender. That doesn't mean they're going

(06:47):
to go to the super Bowl or win the super Bowl,
but they are a legit super Bowl contender.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Okay, So that is our social media poll question for
this morning. We usually asked the grade. There's no reason
to ask the grade for yesterday by any means, So
we're asking what is your prediction of how far you
think they'll go?

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Are you wanting to share that?

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Well, what if they do get the number one seed,
and as of today they have the number one seed,
you get two home games, so you get a bye week,
and then all you have to do, all you have
to do is when two home games, you're in the
super Bowl. I think, yeah, I'm gonna gosh, I hit.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
I don't want to take anything.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
I don't want to I think I'm gonna put it
this way, they have a real shot at being a
super Bowl team this year.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
I'm just gonna leave it at that. Yeah, I don't
want to be the guy.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
That makes a prediction like that, it's a little too
early for the record.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
I was I wasn't saying they weren't a good team.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
I just thought they weren't as good as their record,
and a lot of people were saying that, right.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
Yeah, And let me ask you one more question, and
this is more from a football fan thing. Yesterday, Micah
Parsons and Pat Mahomes toward their a cls.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Yes, tragic, both two of the best players in the league.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
Patrick Mahomes one of the all time greatest quarterbacks already
and he still got years to go in his career.
Seventy five percent of ACL tears in the NFL are
non contact and that's what happened to Michael Parsons. So
it shows you that knee isn't it's just not stable
to begin with. And that's why you're seeing this happen
so often. These guys probably need to do some work

(08:26):
in the off season. I don't know if they do
or not to stabilize that those knee joints, because we're
seeing this happen way too often.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
And you know, back in the day, you.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Know, you just didn't hear much about ACL tears, but
it happens on a regular basis today, So there's something
that's changed in today's athlete from twenty five to thirty
years ago.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Rick Lewis is a key part of our Kawai Broncos
broadcast team with his broadcast partner Dave Logan, who will
be on the show later, and on field reporter Susie
Warden who will be on the show later.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
And Rick of course.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Is morning host on the Fox care Effects, our classic
rock station right here at Manhart.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Tell you what, I'm jealous of that beard.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
I wish I wish I could borrow your beard for
like a playoff game. I mean just so I could
just like just paste it on my face. So you
got Red Beard here and you got black Beard here.
You guys are quite the team. And Gina, I'm not
gonna say anything.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Answer.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Always great to see yesterday, by the way, you were
on you were on fire. Yes, that was a particularly
good game for you.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
They're all good and great to see you as always.
Sounds great. Guys, have a good show, Okay,

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
