Speaker 1 (00:00):
When I have the opportunity to talk to someone who
bills himself as as the world's most average person, how
do you not say yes?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
How do you not say yes to that?

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Justin Nickerson joins me in studio, and he's playing at
Comedy Works South at the Landmark tonight and tomorrow night
six forty five and nine to fifteen to night six
and eight fifteen tomorrow. And you might have seen him
on Comedy Central and Netflix. I saw a video of
you when you were a little younger without this mustache

(00:29):
talking with Kevin Hart, which is pretty cool and a
really successful podcast which has an awesome title.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Oh Yeah, don't make me come back there. We're a
funny podcast about family. It's just me and my wife
complaining about parenting for an hour and complaining about our
you know, the things that parents complain about, which is gosh,
I hate this new school pickup line. The old system
was better. You know, just the stuff you dream of
when you're a little kid. About WHI would be your
main concerns as you get older.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Yeah, before we went on the air, you and I
were spent all our time there talking about raising kids. Yeah,
what's going on with your kids?

Speaker 2 (01:03):
I mean, where do we start. A lot of my
fan base, by the way, are us, which is why
we have that eight fifteen late show tomorrow, like the
only I mean, tickets are really moving for these early
shows because when you have middle aged parent fans, they'll
see a nine to fifteen show. I'm like, I don't
like you that much, justin, but they're just busy. It's like, uh,

(01:23):
it's it's me by the way. Yeah, yeah no, because
it's we have teenagers. So it's like, no, man, I
gotta be an hour east of here for some volleyball
tournament at seven am. I can't be out till ten
to thirty with you. So yeah, no, we're we're real busy.
It's mostly just you're driving them around constantly. The joke
always makes is that you feel like you're an Amazon driver,

(01:45):
but the package hates you. You know, just ding ding ding,
just all around the city whatever. And then and the
package ask for money as you drop them off. They're like, oh, fun, great,
I'm I'm glad we could have such such a special
bond between father and child.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
And yet you're your your kids on tour.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
With you for this weekend. Yeah he uh, he chooses
every once in a while, just if he has some
time off or it makes sense, or I'm just in
one city like I am this week, I'm here for
three days. Yeah, I'll be like, do you want to
go to this place? And Denver gets a yes, Uh,
Toledo gets a no. You know, there's just ones like
you know, that's just not all due respect to Oklahoma City,

(02:27):
it's just not I just can't really sink my teeth
into it. But they've been here to Denver before. They
like it here, it's it's good time.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
So you're from Washington originally.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah, I grew up in the Seattle Tacoma.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Area and now California, San Diego, which part of Sandy
actual San Diego.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah, my address is forced. Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
The reason I asked, I grew up in Oceanside and
carls oh that my parents were Navy all day and
when we dude, when we were there, when we were
on we left. We left there in eight eighty one.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, right, carlsferent.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Little town, no money. Yeah, it's totally different now.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Yeah, now it's now La Jolla, North County. There has
just spread out. It's all money up there. We we
live in San Diego proper near the College Arey, SDSU.
So we're down we're down there. So uh but yeah,
we've lived the last twenty I just I did twenty
seven years in Seattle, and I was just water logged.
I was really excited to come out and like, oh

(03:30):
it's seventy two and sunny again. Fantastic. I love. I'm
so happy here.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
So do you dig California beyond the.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Weatherifornia, THEFORNI oh yeah, I mean I listen. I if
you hate California, you're right, and if you love it,
you're right. I always say that, like California is like
being in love with a beautiful woman, but you hate
her dad. You know, you're like, this is great. I
hate who's in. I don't like some of the extras
that come with this, But man, I love California. It's

(03:59):
it's perfect, and you know, the weather's great. The culture.
And again I'm not I'm not a Homer, I don't
I'm not from there. I'm totally objective about this. I
could live anywhere that I want, and specifically San Diego.
We just we just love it so much.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
What NFL team do you root for?

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Sadly, I'm a Seattle sports fan, which I think I
needed some distance from them too. I just enough Mariners
and Seahawks and Rip Sonics Bray like, I mean, I
just had been hurt enough. The Mariners still exists, regrettably, yeah,
I was. That still a thing. Yeah. The only thing
that happens anymore is like one of our old players

(04:38):
goes to the Hall of Fame. That's what happened with
each hero. Like, nothing new and exciting happens. They're just like,
remember when we were good. You're like, oh, yeah, we
also didn't win World Series back then either. But I'm
talking to am. I talking to a Rockies fan. I mean,
it's not like I like to stay I'm.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Not a Broncos fan. Yeah, an Avalanche fan, I don't.
I'm supposed to care about baseball because we're the Rocky station, yeah,
and the Broncos station. Yeah, but it's so hard for
me to care about baseball. I just yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Mean again, like being a Mariners fan, it's like, I mean,
what have you given me to cheer for in the
last twenty years? You know, it's and it's the same.
You'll have a player you like, remember Todd Helton. You're like, yeah,
Mike did you have Tula whiskey? Yeah, You're like, ah,
that was cool. Did you have Mike Hampton there for

(05:30):
a minute or something. You're like, great, we had the
picture that could hit home runs. Yeah, that's it. And
I couldn't name a Rocky right now. And I like sports.
I don't know if I could either. I'm supposed to be.
This is what I like about, you know, long suffering
sports fan bases, that there is a camaraderie. That's why
nobody's excited about this super Bowl. I'm cheering with it,

(05:53):
I'm hitting I'm watching this super Bowl with the same
enthusiasm that I had voting. You're like, I feel like
I've already lost. I don't care about it. I'm not
rooting for either of these teams or either of these
cities because you guys have won enough lately. But you
always that's why we all wanted Buffalo to win. We
all wanted Buffalo, so we did. Yes, we did all right.

(06:15):
Now I'm cheering for sake wan and nothing else.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
I'm I want both teams to lose, but I think
it doesn't happen very often. But yeah, that would be
that would be my preferred outcome. Can you stick around
for a few minutes. Let's do it all right, Let's
hit a quick break. We'll come back and keep talking
with Dustin Nickerson. He's playing tonight and tomorrow night. It
Comedy Works South at the Landmark. Tonight is six forty
five and nine to fifteen for people who are able

(06:37):
to stay up that late. At Tomorrow Night is six
pm and eight and eight pm for parents like me
and Dustin
