(00:00):
But I'm here to talk right nowabout what's going on in Aurora. Aurora
police said there were reports of shotsfired. And Danielle Jarinski, who has
been a guest on this show multipletimes in the past. She is an
at large member of the Aurora CityCouncil, and she posted something on Facebook
somewhere around maybe eleven am yesterday talkingabout what was going on there by Mississippi
(00:25):
and Havana and Aurora, and Iasked her if she could join us to
talk about it, and here sheis. Danielle, Welcome back to Kowa.
It's good to talk to you. Thanks for having me Ron. So
can you please describe what happened?Sure, I was at home Sunday evening
and all of a sudden, Ihad police officers start reaching out to me.
(00:47):
We had citizen emails coming in toour city council emails. I was
getting messages and I'm thinking, whatthe heck is going on. I make
some calls to some cops on theground and they told me the rough guests
is about five thousand Venezuelans came intothis shopping center, the Target shopping center
(01:14):
at Mississippi and Havana. But itgrossly boiled over from there into Havana,
into all of the other stores shoppingcenters. And I'm not sure how this
target was chosen, but this wasduring business hours, with all of these
people in these stores shopping. There'smultiple reports of gunshots fired. I was
(01:38):
told by the current interim police chiefthat someone was actually grazed by a bullet.
A police car was shot, thetarget was essentially ramsacked. The theft
was incredible on these stores, andit turned pretty chaotic. Ross Wow.
(02:00):
Okay, So I think everybody's wellaware that a large, large percentage of
the invasion of illegal aliens that wasallowed and encouraged by Joe Biden are Venezuelans,
and so I'm not surprised. Idon't know if there was already a
large population of Venezuelans in Aurora andin Denver before the Joe Biden tsunami,
(02:24):
but clearly they're here now. SoI guess the question from a policymaker like
you, Danielle, is what doesthis mean to you going forward? Well,
it's something like last night is tohappen again. We need to make
(02:46):
sure we have intel on it,we need to make sure we have other
departments brought in and quite frankly, ross I said when I was watching live
video streams Sunday night, our governorneeds to activate the National Guard. This
is unacceptable. You know, Idon't know for sure the status of every
single person that was out there, but something has got to be done about
(03:07):
this. And you know, whileMichael Bennett and Hike and Leeper are posting
on x that they're applauding the outcomeof the election in Venezuela, well,
well if they could take a momentand hold their applause and address the invasion
that is going on that just happenedin the city of Aurora, I would
(03:29):
sure appreciate it. How confident areyou about your statement in this Facebook post
that the police had to get outof the area for their own safety.
Oh, I'm one hundred percent confident. I have screenshots from police officers sending
this to me. Police officers werecalling me a police car was shot.
(03:53):
I'm one hundred percent confident of it. Wow. One of the things you
posted on Facebook was a picture ofa guy, a very clear picture of
whoever this is, who had ahandgun and I guess fired it into the
air and then put it in asilver Acura. You know, I don't
know like you. I have noidea what the status is of all these
(04:15):
people. And maybe and maybe someof them are actually citizens of the United
States. I'm guessing most of themare either legal immigrants or illegal immigrants,
and that means none of them areallowed to have guns. And yet you
know, shots being fired into theair and police getting police having the lead.
I mean, this sounds like thereare neighborhoods in Paris, Dan you
know where the police and fire departmentsare afraid to go. And I'm not
(04:39):
saying Hawvna and Mississippi is like thatevery day. But it should never be
like that. It should never belike that Ross And that is a statement.
It should never be like that. When I had constituents reaching out to
me they couldn't get in by vehicle. I had a man reach out to
me and tell me that he hadto walk into one of the shopping centers,
(04:59):
walk in to the Noodles and Companyto get his wife and children out
of there, who were essentially trappedin there. You know, you're you're
in these stores, You're you're hearinggunshots going off. I just I can't
imagine what the people that were outthere that experienced I can't imagine how they're
feeling, what they're thinking, andthis is absolutely unacceptable. One of the
(05:27):
folks who commented on your Facebook postsays, I'm quoting here. My mother
was trapped in this for hours.I was on FaceTime with her and these
men were yelling and hitting her car. The issue I have with this is
that the police should have been ableto direct traffic so that people who are
not part of the protest could leavethe shopping center. So there's you know,
I guess two issues there to dealwith. But so just last question,
(05:49):
and I'll ask you again when Iasked you a moment ago, and
I realized this is all fresh andit's not an easy problem to think about.
But from the perspective of somebody who'smaking the laws, the ordinance is
for Aurora and also has to overseethe police department as the city council would.
Now what, well, now,I think we need to get uh
(06:10):
intel on you know, these groupsand and and what they're doing and is
this going to happen again or arethese gatherings going to be uh a continuous
thing. We need to get someintel. We also need we also need
a joint task force at this pointwith a Rapahoe County possibly Adams County,
and one half of that that Mississippiand Heaven Arrest. One half of that
(06:31):
is Denver. So so we needDenver. I mean, this cannot happen.
People were trapped in source, peoplewere trapped in their cars. This
was not as Summer are trying toclaim a friendly celebration. They that's not
what this was at all. Andpeople are now scared, and I refuse
(06:57):
to let this be downplayed. Irefuse to let this go quietly into the
night. The people of Aurora, and quite frankly, the people of Colorado
need to know the truth. SoI hope that law enforcement agencies will start
to come together. But Ross, remember at a local level, at the
city council level, I only haveso much control, I only have so
much authority. And it is timefor state elected leaders in Colorado to step
(07:23):
up and stop ignoring this and stopacting like there's nothing to see here,
admit that we have a problem, and help help the people of Colorado that
are trapped in these businesses and trappedin their cars. There's another comment Ross
Summer on that post that one womansaid that she was a victim of a
hit and run trying to get outof one of these shopping centers. I
(07:46):
mean, there's all kinds of crimescommitted. Wow. Danielle Jorinski is that
large member of the Aurora City Council. Thanks for bringing us to our attention
and for you know, raising yourvoice on it. And we'll keep in
touch with you to see if there'sreally anything that can be done or that
will be done going forward. Appreciateyour time, Danielle. Thanks Rob,
(08:07):
have a great day you too, will take a quick break. We'll be
right back on Kawai.
