Speaker 1 (00:00):
One of my friends, Kathleen Chandler, is director of the
Citizen Involvement Project at the Independence Institute, and she's been
on the show many times in the past talking about
events that she has coming up, seminars that she has
coming up to help people make a difference. And one
of these is actually coming up tomorrow and it's called
(00:21):
Speaking Up and Speaking Out, and Kathleen is here to
tell us what we need to know. Hi Kathleen, Hi Las.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
First I want to say thank you for bringing up
the article you did about meta, because that's exactly what
we're talking about at this speaking up and speaking out.
We have been attacked at our first Amendment, our ability
to just speak up. And one of the things we
want to teach people is that we need to start
speaking up and speaking out. And that doesn't mean being obnoxious, right,
(00:51):
It means being brave, but being awful persuasive, and I
think on our side we're not very persuasive. So tomorrow
night there's a class the Cobol Library at five o'clock.
You can go to our website which is thinkfreedom dot
org and that class speaking Up and Speaking Out. We're
going to learn and we're going to actually practice how
to talk to your neighbor, Like, how if you can't
(01:13):
talk to your brother, your sister, or your child about
events about the world, about what's going on in your community,
how do we expect to change the culture and being
able to vote in better people. So really just talks
starts with being persuasive and how we can do that
as citizens.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
It's interesting that your focus in this particular class is
about talking with other citizens, perhaps more than it is
about talking to people in government, right, because.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
We've discovered that the citizenry is the one actually that
votes the fools in, right, And the only way we're
going to get better people voted in is if we
have a better culture. So we need to change the
culture so that we will have one citizens that up
up and say well, I'm a solution to the overreach
of government, so they might run for office, but two
(02:06):
so that we don't vote in the fools that continue
to just snow us with all of the stuff that
you just talked about by using social media to really
squelter our voice. So this class really is about changing
culture and how I can then influence government down the road.
But right now in Colorado, we just don't have that ability,
(02:28):
and so we need to start back at step one,
which is that cultural perspective.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
So folks, if you go to thinkfreedom dot org, click
on join us near the top, or just hover the
mouse over it and click on Citizen Involvement.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Is is that right?
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah, Citizen Involvement Projects project, And then just scroll down
a little bit you'll see speaking up and speaking out.
And this class is tomorrow from five pm to seven
thirty pm at the Coldville Library on South Holly Street.
It's what Holly just south of Orchard I think if
I remember, right, yea, And you can register right there
on the website and it's like ten bucks or something,
(03:08):
and you'll learn a lot and you'll be able to
be you know, it's all about persuasion. This is what
I do for a living as well. Right, It's all
about trying to persuade people. And you don't persuade people
generally by just yelling at them, or by being uninformed
or by just saying you're wrong. You really need to
be able to bring a message with passion, sometimes with data,
(03:31):
but it's not always about data. Sometimes it's about telling
a good story. And this is the kind of stuff
you will learn so thinkfreedom dot org. Then join US
and Citizen Involvement Project and you can sign up right there.
Thanks Kathleen, I always appreciate what.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
You do well, thank you. And really it's a great
opportunity for us to start changing the culture in Colorado
so that we can start voting in better people.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Hell allujah to that. Thanks Kathleen, appreciate it all right,
