Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, you know what, let's just jump into Ryan Schmells,
(00:02):
Fox News, Ryan Schmell's Capitol Hill.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
We have a make or break a.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Day today before the government shutdown deadline hits tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Ryan, what's the latest, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (00:14):
I would say make or break is a good word
to use with this, because you've got the Big Four
meeting at the White House with President Trump, and we
you know, if there's no progress made today, with the
likelihood of that government shutdown is that much more prevalent.
So we'll see what happens ultimately, but I don't think
there's a lot of hope right now that there is
going to be a deal reached in the next couple
(00:36):
hours when they meet.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Yeah, it seems like that both sides preparing for conflict
and maybe not necessarily a resolution. So what's at odds?
What's being discussed do? What does each side want to
avoid the shutdown?
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Well, I think the Republicans the ask is pretty simple.
They just want Democrats to support the deal that's already
on the table that passed out of the House, which
is a simple, clean extension of government funding. UH goes
until about November, late November, and pretty much there's just
some added funding in there for member security. Besides that,
it's a pretty cut and dry bill. Now Republicans are
(01:12):
Democrats on the other hand, they want to see, you know,
these healthcare provisions related to the Affordable Care Act and
attack subsidies attached to this. But Republicans are kind of
not budging on that, saying that's an issue that should
be dealt with separately, but also that this is a
program that to need to reform. So unless those things
are included, you know, the Republicans are going to add
(01:33):
that anytime soon.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Speaking with Ryan Schmeltz Fox News, and you know, last
week Trump abruptly walked away from meetings with Schumer and
Hakeem Jeffries. But he's he's warmed up now and they're
meeting today to kick this around.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
What time are they expected to meet.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
I think it's gonna be early afternoon, so probably around
two o'clock is what I would say is what we're
expecting at this point. You know, obviously that it's a
little tentative right now. We also have Democrats having a
caucus meeting a little bit later on today, and you've
got Senate Democrats having conference call yesterday regarding all this.
So a lot of meetings are taking place. But what's
(02:13):
what's interesting is that the Senate will be in session today.
They are going to be voting on the same package
again that they voted on last two weeks ago that
that did not pass. And you know, if a couple
of Democrats jump on board, the government shutdown can be averted.
But it doesn't seem like as of right now that
those numbers are there.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Deadline is it tomorrow night at midnight or twelve or eleven.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Yell zero zero zero zero zero zero one when you
have the government shutdown, So we are we are very
much in crunch time.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
What happens if the government shuts down?
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Ryan smells well for a couple of at least in
the interim, you could see government employees not be getting
their their paychecks. There could be the build sy back
pay later when the government's reopened, but you know, we
are up again and rent time, so that's not exactly
the ideal time to be losing a paycheck. And then
you also have some other things like some some service
(03:08):
like parks and whatnot that'll be temporarily closed until the
government reopens. And you know, look it costs money actually
do all those things too. So you know, some one
of the arguments you hear from from Republicans against the
government shocks THATWN is you know, one of the most
anti dosed things you can do is shutdown because you're
spending a lot of money just getting ready for a shutdown,
and you're spending money ending a shutdown. So that's one
(03:30):
thing to keep in mind.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Ryan.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Did you spend more time with the NFL? College Football?
Major League Baseball or the Ryder Cup this weekend?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
College football? In the NFL? There you go, almost almost
had a historic win. It was pretty awesome, but then
the Ravens had a probably one of the worst losses
I've ever seen them have, So that was rough.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
There you go, all right, Ryan, have a good week.
Appreciate you on Capitol Hill, Fox and is Ryan Schmells
at seven forty News Radio six ten. And I spent
less time with the Ryder Cup than I had thought
I would. I had it on and it's just I
just I couldn't get excited about it. Team Europe with
it with a big road wind, and as expected, can't
(04:13):
be the New York The Long Island fans were as
rowdy as.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Expected, and in some cases it was pretty brutal.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
I mean there were there's some some very uncalled for
remarks that were made, a lot of them directed towards
Rory McElroy, who's always been an outspoken guy himself.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
But look, here's the way it boils down to.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
And I'm sorry to say this, but you know, as
a you know, as an American and wanting the US
to do well, they don't know how to play as
a team.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
They just don't.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
I mean, the Europeans have won now eleven out of fifteen,
but Europe is set up. I don't know how they
do it, but they were. They had a game plan
and they were set up from the get go to
take over this tournament and they did exactly that. Now
in the singles, as we just mentioned, when these guys
are by themselves, it's a different ballgame.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
It just is.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Part of this is playing in groups and alternate shots,
and we don't know how to do it.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
We don't know how to do it, and that's got
to change. You got to bring back Tiger. I'm not kidding.
You got to bring back Tiger is a captain. I
think that he would change things well, and we talked
about who is a Kegan Bradley.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
We talked about his choice to not play and just
be just be a captain, and that'll be, you know,
depending on how Team USA does. That's how we'll view
that decision. And I don't know if he would have
helped any but I mean the pairings. I mean, you
considering second guests all day as to why. But to
your point, is Team USA caught back up when it's
(05:40):
when it's singles exactly again, And golf.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Is an individual sport. I mean, it's not a team sport.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
So asking a guy who's been playing this sport his
entire life by himself, it's an individual sport to now
open it up and look more at playing as a team.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
It's it's it's challenging, it's a different mindset. It is.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
It is difficult, and I understand that. But at the
same time, I want to say, you have guys on
the European Tour that are in the that are near
the top of their game as well, but they know
how to gel as a team.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
They look at it as it's a.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
Prideful thing for them and it should be for the
United States as well. But clearly the past record does
not show that, and it's disappointing. Especially this is probably
one of the most rowdy crowd you're ever going to see,
and they had them in their corner. They had them
and the Europeans shut up a long island, A long
island crowd, that's tough.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
And they were rowdy. I mean they were chants of
you know, f U Rory and all this stuff. And
the gal who I've never heard of, was the MC
of the events. I think she's a B or C
level actress or a comedian, and she was kind of
leading that charge of getting these chants going. Yeah, she
either stepped down or was asked to leave, or it
(06:59):
got out of hand.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Yeah, the article that the article that I read, I
saw that she stepped down. But when you do that,
when you lead a charge in trash talk, you know
you're already beaten. If we've gotten to that point where
we got to be as angry as humanly possible to
try to shake the game up and start talking about
people's families and dropping F bombs and everything else, you've
already lost.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Heather McMahon is her name, and I've not heard of her.
I don't know who sheesus familiar to me as bad
Bunny is. I've actually heard of Bad Bunny before. But yeah,
and then I saw a video and there was a
not a scuffle, but there were some heated words. Guys
were walking off the green to go to the next tee,
and it was a bunch of players and their caddies. Yeah,
(07:43):
and you know how they get bunched up as they
find the path and they find their way through the
crowd off of the green to the next tee. And
they were I mean they were pointing fingers and you know,
putting fingers and chests and yelling and talking, and I
mean it's I like the passion of the Ryder Cup.
I really do, because you could use a little bit
of excitement in golf. You know, golf is not known
(08:04):
for its rowdiness. So I kind of like that.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
In that in that particular case, that's like guys on
the football field where you see the helmets bobbing up
and down because they're talking about everybody's family members and
stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
I'm okay with that. The caddies and the golfers.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
I don't mind if they trashy talk each other, you know,
because you can get in someone's heads. Tiger was one
of the best at it. He could say little things
that would drive you up the wall. I don't have
a problem with that, but when the fans, when you're
leading the fan cheers and you're again you're you're behind
the ropes cheer for the United States.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
It was a lot of hostility, a lot of yet
a lot of personal attacks.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Yeah that you don't
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Need that, and and you know, I hate to call
him out, but Scotty Scheffler had a horrible weekend.
