Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Mike Elliott, Columbus's Morning News. Over to the Legacy
(00:02):
Retirement Group dot com phone line. That's where we find
Rory O'Neill, NBC News Radio and Rory. The Big Beautiful
Bill has cleared the Senate barely. They needed the tie
breaking vote from Vice President Jade Vance, but they did
clear it. It's off to the House. Now where do
we stand?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, well, first we have to make sure the House
members can get back there. We've had some issues with
the weather shutting down airports and Democrats, Republicans whatever, they're
struggling to get back to d C. So they were
hoping to have a vote on the Big Beautiful Bill. Sorry,
technically not called that anymore, but they're hoping to have
a vote on the bill this morning. But let's see
(00:40):
how everyone's travel arrangements are coming through somewhere, landing in
Pittsburgh and driving down to get to the Capitol.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Yeah, we actually typically have Ohio Congressman Mike Carrey joining
us every other Wednesday. He was set to go this
morning and give us a quick update, but he couldn't
because he was going to be in transit because he
got delayed in his attempting get to DC on time,
and it's less about yes or no votes and more
about just making sure people are there.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Are they here right? So that could throw things off. Remember,
this bill only passed the House by one vote. The
second vote the guy was asleep and slep right through it.
So now, and look, there are plenty of Republicans not
happy with what the Senate did to the Big Beautiful Bill.
They might pound the table a bit and make some noise,
but you know, gosh help them if they're the ones
(01:27):
who stopped President Trump's agenda from moving forward on the
Republican side. So we'll see what happens if it's just bluster,
if they plan to stick it out.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
And the way I understand it is if every sitting
member in the House makes it there and is able
to vote, Speaker Mike Johnson can only lose three votes
in his chamber and still get that legislation passed.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Right, He's got a couple who said they're no votes, clearly,
But let's see if they stick to it.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
So why can't we call it a big beautiful bill anymore?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Senator Schumer, the Democratic minority leader in the Senate, had
the name of the bill officially changed. I think like
the spending bill is right.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
I hear a lot of media calling it the megabill.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Now, I don't know, I think that's I think that
might well, maybe calling it the Maga Bill for whatever.
But yeah, it was the because it was officially titled
the One Big Beautiful Bill. Was the official title? Was it?
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Really? I just thought that was some sort of media
slogan that we all used so well.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
It started as a part as a house thing, you know,
and to salute President Trump, and then they made it
official and now it's unofficial.
