Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right over to the Legacy Retirement Group dot com
(00:02):
phone lines, where we find Mark Summerson, Columbus Business First
dot com. I'm sure you worked a full eight hours
all five days this week, Mark, how are you?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Oh my god, this has been a long week. It
really has been a long week.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
I felt like it's it bogged down in the middle,
like you know, Tuesday, Wednesday it started to drag, and
then we kind of turned things up a little bit yesterday.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
But here we are, my man, it's Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Yeah, I'm very excited for Friday.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
What do you got this weekend? You've been buck eyes
obviously Tomorrow?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Uh yeah, I'll watch part of the game.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Which which parting, and.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Then I turn it off once they have the score
kind of in check. So yeah, will be doing I
haven't watched a full game, I'm pretty sure all season. Sorry.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Well, you know what, though, Camping and I talked about this,
not to get too far off topic, it's the games
are usually out of hand by the third four, so
a lot of people just have it on in the background.
There's been zero drama. They haven't had to come from
behind where you're like glued to your TV. Not that
that's bad. It's not a bad thing. I'm just saying
it's not been. Uh, it's not a compelling season so far.
(01:15):
And I'll get I'll get some grief for that.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Mike. Let me tell you what I've got going on
this weekend. I took a pickleball so I have a
pickleball lesson tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Have you have you played before?
Speaker 2 (01:30):
I played when I was in North Carolina with some
friends and loved it. Came back, joined up at a
at a pickleball place in Columbus called Pickle and Chill,
and then I played. I took an introductory class and
now I'm I have a private lesson on Saturday. So
I'm very excited.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
I'm excited for you. It's fun.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
I've been to Pickle and Chill as well, and it's
it's a I know some of the operators there. It's
a it's a cool it's a cool spot and they
and when you're done playing pick a ball, you can
go and get a beer.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
At the bar.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
And now I think I've turned in one of those
people who bores everybody to death talking about pickleball. But
you know, I'm of the age, and my knees, our
craps so it's a fun sport for me to move around,
and it's a lot harder than I thought it was.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Well, next up dinner at four thirty and shuffle board.
Mark that's where you are.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
I'm very close.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
All right, let's dig in and got a couple of
stories for you.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Carvana has kind of reignited their plans for the giant
I Guess car vending machine that was supposed it was
supposed to be at the old Magic Mountain Fund Center.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yeah, they bought the property in twenty twenty two. This
is almost an eight acre site on Lyra Drive right
there at seventy seventy and seventy one in the Player's
Park interchange. They bought it for six point two million
dollars and then things kind of slowed down. Carvana ran
into some financial problems as a big company, and at
(03:04):
one point that the property was up for sale again.
It was in contract, the sale never occurred, and then
we saw that they filed a permit with the City
of Columbus to build a new structure on the property.
So we started making some calls. We found out that yeah,
they're going to build what they call an automated vehicle
display Slash delivery tower, which is a giant vending machine
(03:27):
where if you buy a car from Carbana, you can
go up to the vending machine. They give you a
very large token to put in there, and then you know,
your car comes down. I think it's like when you
get a candy bar from the top row and you
put your money in it and it falls, you know,
a few falls. I don't know if the cars fall
(03:49):
from the top and land at the bottom or if
they gently come down, but I would love to see it.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah, that would be cool to see if that work out.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
And yeah, I kind of had those same logistic questions
you do, is how exactly does that work with with
a you know, the twenty thirty forty thousand dollars car
at the top on the the giant car vending machine.
But that's kind of cool. I mean, it's a it's
a cool gimmick for car van. But I was I
was disappointed that that never came. But I'm glad that
it's not off the table yet.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yeah, and it's the one behind you. It's you know
how sometimes when they get stuck, you can get two
for one at with a candy bar. I'm hoping you
get two for cars crashing down.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Well, yeah, maybe I don't know. Yeah, that's it's probably
not gonna happen. Maybe they'll throw in a Snicker's bar
with the new car.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Yes, but it's kind of cool, and it's kind of cool.
Closest one is up in Cleveland. That's the only other
Ohio one. They're in Pittsburgh, Louisville or close. There are
thirty seven towers nationwide and now Columbus is going to
have the thirty eighth. Super exciting for a giant vending machine,
and it is you know, it's just good promotion for them.
(04:55):
People see it when they drive by and say, hey,
how does that thing work? And you know, just like
the questions we have and if you're out there looking
for a car. I just went to my lot and
picked it up. When I got my car, it was
kind of boring to hand me the keys and I
drive off.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
But it's mind me this minunderstanding. It's very convenient.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
I've never I've not purchased anything through car Vana, but
I know people that have this, and it's the easiest
you know, car sale you'll ever deal, you'll ever do.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
It's just so simple.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Oh, good. Well, now they're going to make it more
complicated with a giant.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
A giant machine.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
It's right Mark Summerson, Columbus Business first, So it was
I think it's started in Newark. A craft brewery is
moving to Columbus. It's a Dank House brewing.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yeah, it's usually been the way where a Columbus craft
brewery moves into the suburbs or into another county. This
time it is Newark. It's Dank House Brewing Company. They're
moving to old Town East. They have been in Newark
for a number of years now. They started in twenty seventeen,
a husband and wife team. This beer is very popular
(06:00):
among the craft brewing fans in central Ohio. They're known
for their hazy IPA's pastry Scouts, which I love a
good stout, as you know. And now they add pastry
flavors to it you can't lose, and fruited sours, which
you know, there are some that I like, some that
I don't. But yeah, they're coming here and the and
the beer fans are going to be extremely happy. And
(06:22):
they're also hooking up with Newark based Square Roots Restaurant Group,
which they've hooked up with in Newark and now they're
going to have some sort of food concept down here.
So it's it's really exciting. You know, old Town East
is growing or more restaurants going in there, there's bars,
there's more housing, and now you're going to get this
really interesting craft brewer from Newark moving in and I
(06:45):
think that's great news for them.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
And no timeline on when they're going to open up
that space yet, No.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah, it'll be coming, you know. It's one of those Yes,
they watched for it. We'll keep reporting on it. We'll
let you know when it opens.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Yeah, let us know. And I'll let you go and
I'll buy you an ipa.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
I'll buy you a hazy ipa and you know, maybe
get you off the stouts for a minute and see
what happens.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Okay, and I'll get you a sour fruit.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
You know, I love my sour fruits.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
How about Lower dot Com naming rights at cru Stadium
is done? And this was a this was an amical,
amicable departure.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Right, that's what they tell us. They said it was
a mutual agreement. Now, Lower dot Com has done great
since they opened that park. The stadium has had that
name since twenty twenty one. It's it's been four years now.
It doesn't seem like that, but it really. I mean,
I didn't really know much about lower Up before this
stadium went up. But yeah, I think they've done well
(07:46):
for themselves. They said, hey, we're going to let somebody
else take over. We're going to still be a sponsor
partner with the Columbus Crew and we'll still be doing
stuff with them. And the Crew has said they already
have a deal worked out with somebody. They're not telling
us who. We've been poking around trying to figure out.
I looked up for major league soccer stadiums around the country.
(08:08):
It's about five to seven million dollars a year for
naming rights. So I'm I don't know who's gonna come
in there, But wouldn't it be cool if it was
nationwide since they already have nationwide arena, or Huntington since
they have Huntington Field already where the Clippers play in
the arena district. This would just add to that. But
who knows, Maybe it'll be Columbus Business first name who's
(08:30):
on there, and you never know
