Speaker 1 (00:00):
Right off the hop this morning, I wanted to jump in.
We had some breaking news yesterday afternoon. Israel and Hamas
have agreed to the first phase of a peace plan,
almost two years to the day after that war started.
We're talking about that the other day. So let's get
some details now, Jonathan Savage, Fox News. Do we have
peace in the Middle East? What do we know?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
We should within a few hours at least have a ceasefire,
and we should within a few days have the return
of all the remaining Israeli hostages, about twenty alive and
the bodies of twenty eight others. That is what has
been agreed by Israel and Hamas. This is based on
the police plan put forward last week by President Trump,
(00:42):
and this is just the first phase of that plan.
But it would be an enormous moment for the region
after two years of conflict and two years of pain.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
And then on the flip side of that, we have
Israelis withdrawing from Gaza.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yeah, that's right. This deal would have the Israeli forces
move back to a particular point in Gaza, the first
phase of what is intended to be a full withdrawal
over time. As this twenty point piece plan gets implemented.
So yes, that is something which Hamas has insisted on.
(01:18):
They want this to be the start of the end
of the war, but there are an awful lot of
hurdles and obstacles and details we worked out before anyone
can declare that peace of our time.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Jonathan Savage, Fox News. Do we have any information on
the Hamas disarmament. There was discussion of that and any
fighters that do voluntarily disarm will be granted amnesty. If
you've heard any reporting on that.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Well, this is one of the most important parts of
this the fact that the peace plan it stipulates that
Hamas should disarm. This is something that Israel has insisted
on for a very very long time. Of course, it
was Hamas who started this war when they carried out
the invasion on southern Israel, the massacre of twelve hundred people.
(02:04):
But Hamas is so far refusing to say that it
will give up its weapons once and for all. There's
talks about them putting the weapons out of commission, there's
talks about handing over to other countries. There's talks that
they may give up their heavy arms but maintain light arms.
You know, this is something which still has to be
(02:24):
ironed out, and it's something which could prove a significant
obstacle to completing this twenty point piece plan.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Yeah, there's still some terms of the deal that remain
a little vague. At this point. We were hearing that
President Trump will travel to the Middle East or could
potentially travel there this weekend. Have you heard about that
and who else helped negotiate this deal?
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah. President Trump says that he may travel to the
Middle East in the next few days. I think that
if things continue to go as he should do, he
might well want to go there and make a speech.
There have been for President Trump is taking the plot
it from all in Sundry for leading this charge towards peace.
There have been other actors involved. Cutar and Egypt have
(03:07):
been mediators that have hosted talks over many many months.
In addition, turkeya has come in to put further pressure
on her Mass because they have contacts with Hamas and
even the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has been
said to be involved in this process too.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
When it comes to the hostage release, what's our timeline, Jonathan,
when in the next thirty six forty eight hours or
longer than that.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
President Trump is talking about Monday as being the day
for all the hostages to be released, but there has
been talk of this happening sooner, and I think they
will want to get it done as soon as possible,
as soon as the logistics can be thrashed out. In
the past, when we've seen hostages being released, we have
seen the being paraded instead of pr stunts by Hamas,
and we're told that that will not happen this time.
(03:53):
That is part of the conditions of this deal. They
will not be publicly shown in Gaza before being had
it over to the International Red Trust. They will simply
be given to the Red Cross. They will be transported
back to Israel, and there are hospitals in Israel now
preparing to receive the hostages who are likely to be
in poor physical conditions,
