Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, tight after seven, Let's check in on my

(00:02):
Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line with our friend,
political strategist Dan Snell, author of The Winsome Candidate.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Dan, How are you this morning?

Speaker 3 (00:10):
I'm doing Dan. They always great to be with you
and your Columbus listeners.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Yeah, great to talk to you, sir. Let's talk about Washington,
DC and the National Guard there. We know that Ohio
Governor Mike Dwine has authorized sending one hundred and fifty troops.
There's a small protest downtown Columbus yesterday regarding that. But
they're trying to clean up the nation's capital. They're using
the National Guard to do so. And District of Columbia

(00:36):
is attempting to see the president for this.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
What do you know?

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Yeah, well, what's taking place, what the president's doing is
certainly he's legal in authorizing it, And if you've ever
been to Washington, DC. I go there and it is
not necessarily crime, but you see things on the street
that might cause the average a citizen there or the
for sure the visitors go wow, is this safe? So

(01:01):
I think what he's doing is appropriate for the moment.
But in thirty days and here we go we'll be
talking about this in maybe twenty five days because the
ability for the President and the DOJ to authorize these
troops coming in only last thirty days, so they've done
some good work. We'll see what happens next.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
People who are opposed to this are calling it a
federal takeover, and as you point out, Dan is fully
within his legal ability to do so.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
It's the Home Rule Act.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
And what I don't get is if you oppose this,
does that mean you are for crime then in the
DC area, because the skeptics here are saying, well, you know,
let the police.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Do their job and crime has been going down. Well
that's all relative.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
It may be going down, but they're still I mean,
it's still very unsafe. Carjackings are up. I don't understand where.
And really it's the left their position being almost pro
crime in this situation.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
What do you think, Dan, Yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Think that if I were Washington, DC, and I noticed
just yesterday I saw an interview with the police chief,
she said, well, we welcome the additional five hundred feet
on the street to help clean things up. So in
the short term, if I've spent five terms as an
elected official and a local government level, I'd probably take
the stance where I'm welcoming the support, But in the

(02:32):
bigger picture, I think there has to be a review
and a discussion about okay long term because I know
that in the recent budget the Trump administration did cut
for law enforcement, including Columbus and other states, other cities.
They cut the budget for some programs and some grants
that help law enforcement and the amount of people that

(02:56):
they can hire, new hires and things like that. So
I think there has to be a discussion at a
bigger level. And the good thing about what's going on
in Washington, DC, I always say, what's the solution here
big picture for the country or the place we call
ho that will create some discussion.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
On this absolutely speaking with Dan Snow, political strategist, author
of The Winsome Candidate, and I did see that the
chief of police in DC is going to keep control
of her police for some three thousand plus police officers there,
So that's it probably makes her feel a little bit
better that she's not giving up control to the National Guard.
I want to pivot get your thoughts this morning down

(03:33):
on the Trump Putin meeting from Friday. You've got Zelensky
and some other European leaders at the White House today.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
The meeting I think is right around three o'clock.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
The whole goal here is to try to end the
fighting and the war between Russia and Ukraine. How do
you from your perspective and what you were able to
absorb over the weekend, Dan, how do you think the
Friday meeting between Putin and Zelenski?

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Putin and Trump went well?

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Levels one, I think it went well if you're looking
at what's our goal, what's the outcome that we want
as a world or as a nation. If my thoughts
are if President Trump wouldn't have done his normal conversation
or rhetoric last week about if I don't get what
I want, then this is going to be so tough,
and I think a little bit his words before this

(04:23):
summit were too strong to match what happened. So it
appears that Putin got what he wanted and Trump was
a little set back. But in the big picture, if
Trump would have been reasonably a little more quiet, it
would have looked like, Wow, we're on track. So in
the bottom line, hey we're on track. Today will be
a big day with Zelensky coming in as well. As
I noticed that MARCONA number of leaders from Europe are

(04:46):
going to be there because the last time, the last
time Zelensky was there, it didn't go too well, right,
And so I think today will be a big day.
We'll be excited about what's going to take place at
three o'clock. And my I hope, I'm sure everyone's hope
is for the outcome that brings steps forward to end
this war.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
I think two of the main points, not to get
to a granular on this is if a Ukraine drops
its bid to join NATO and if Ukraine sort of
understands they're not getting Crimea back, then the war is over,
because those are the two things that Putin wants to
have happen. And I don't know, I mean, those are

(05:26):
two pretty big deal points, I would think for Zolenski, I.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Think he's got to realize if you look at the
damage of his country and the depth and destruction, that
it's probably time to do that. And then the bigger
picture of the NATO question, I think both Europe and
even Donald Trump has said when he signed, they made
a big thing. He hasn't brought it up lately, but
the mineral rights and how the United States was going
to be actively involved in, you know, helping Ukraine grow

(05:55):
back through the mineral rights, and that we will protect
our assets and our properties there. I think they'll be protected,
so I would if I were Ukraine. I'm thinking it's
not going to happen again, and Crimea has been since
twenty twelve when that actually was kind of taken over.
So my god, I'm an eternal optimist. I hope that
the solutions will come out of this meeting today, and

(06:16):
within the next twenty one days, will you and I
will be talking about and celebrating the end of the
Ukraine Russia War.
