Speaker 2 (00:01):
Wtv good, Morning It's Mike, Elliott columbus's morning. News short work, Week,
Tuesday july, first feels like A. Wednesday hopefully you've Got
friday off either, Way thank you.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
For listening this.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Morning congratulations by the way To Debbie, Peterson Canal. Winchester

better you better clear out some freezer space, There, debbie
because you got all the ice cream headed your, way
along with some frozen, yogurt Some Sherbert Sherbet.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Subert she had the sugar buzz, going did she already was, like, oh, yes.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Like getting win ice cream.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Party good for her and thanks for listening In Canal.
Winchester DE. W we appreciate you very much so that
we had that story yesterday about The Disney Dream, cruise
the dramatic rescue of that little girl who went overboard
that cruise ship is now. Home it's it's docked In Broward, County,
florida as they were headed back after a trip to The.
Caribbean yes or A sunday rather a little girl five years.

(01:04):
Old we now know.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
How old she.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Was she was, five so scary she went overboard from
the fourth, deck and, dad who's now being called a,
hero went in after her. Immediately and you, know at
five years, old you may or may not know how to.
Swim there's a good chance that she did not know
how to swim at Five and oh, my but think about,
it doesn't matter if she could swim or. Not, well the,

(01:29):
level the level that you fall from as an. Adult,
okay you're at the fourth level as a five year.
Old can you imagine you're falling forever in their? Mind
in their, MIND i can't, imagine just being scared out
of your. Wits, Yeah and and WHAT i mean every
dad would like to think they would do the same
thing you. Would you have, TO i, mean you don't, think,

(01:51):
actually you just, react, yeah and you jump. In AND
i saw some video of the rescue when the cruise
members that actually got into the little inflatable boat and
they went around and picked them up and took them
a couple of minutes to get that.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
ACTIVATED i saw the.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Video, thankfully the seas WEREN'T i, mean there were some big,
swells but it Wasn't it wasn't as calm.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Enough it was calm. Enough it could have been a
lot worse put it that, Way thank, goodness but that's
just a crazy. Story i'm an Uncle, mike And i'd
have gone in.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Right, yeah, yeah, absolutely absolutely a very happy ending. There all,
right let's go over to The Legacy Retirement group dot
com phone line and check in with our aviation.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Expert you can find him at j ratlift dot. Com
it's J.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Ratlift and it's a busy travel, Week. JAY i would imagine,
that let me, Guess thursday And sunday would be the
big days to be going through A tsa checkpoint this.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Week it could, be but you, know looking at some
of the numbers at THE tsa has been feeding. Us
they give us the numbers as far as the number
of people who traveled each, day as far as they,
screened some have been two point nine three million people or.
So and that's really unusual to see that close to
three million that. Often SO i don't think that we're

(03:09):
going to be, seeing you, know excessive numbers beyond what
we've already been. SEEING i can tell you what's going
to happen is you're going to see a slower trend of,
people Especially, friday because you're gonna have people all over
the country that are thinking it's okay to take fireworks To.
Grandma's oh, boy it happens every, time and the line slows,
down comes to a, stop and then you have to

(03:30):
explain to people why explosives aren't allowed on Board Deer,
point and that takes a couple of, minutes and then,
you you, know you figure out what they're going to
do with them and go from. There and you, know
we're still having more people forgetting that they have a
loaded block in their their bag as, well so that's
going to slow things. Up so if this is a
trip that you've been planning for some, time just get
there two hours before, departure not in the parking, lot

(03:53):
but walking through the door of the. AIRPORT i know
that seems like an extreme thing for a lot of
people BECAUSE i get those. Emails but you, KNOW i
tell them all the. Time you go to amusement park
and stand in that summer sum for three hours to
ride a two minute. Ride but you're telling me it's
too much for two hours to get to the airport
before you get take a wonderful. Trip you just don't

(04:16):
want to cut it too. Close too many things can.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Happen, yeah it's going to be a busy whether it's
record setting or, not it is going to be an
active weekend at the. Airport so just As jay, said
leave yourself plenty of. Time, specifically let's get into this
deal With Southwest. Airlines and they've made a bunch of
policy changes here in the last i don't, know twelve
months or, so trying.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
To be like everybody.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Else but they may be changing the rules on their
loyalty companion pass.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Policy so what's the policy and what's the proposed.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Change, well that's kind of the. Trend an airlines play
file of the leaders you know In american, Airlines, Delta,
Airlines united have all changed their frequent flyer, program so
it's become harder to use what you've. Earned. Now southwest
has this really cool thing called The Rapid Rewards, program
their Freking flyer program that you can actually earn a

(05:05):
companion pass that allows you to bring somebody with you for.
Free they still have to pay the, taxes but you
can get a free companion pass many times on a paid,
ticket even a ticket you've earned through the freaking flyer.
Program it was super, cool but Now southwest is thinking
we may decide to amend that in essence where they

(05:25):
could change or even lose that benefit unless you're a
super top frequent. Player now obviously that's not going to
set well with the vast majority of. People but it
just it just you, know it bothers me because it's
the It's delta And American united that have done. It
southwest has yet to do. It they're just thinking about.

(05:46):
It but the absolute slap in the face that, says
we know you've worked hard to accumulate these miles because
you're a loyal to us as an, Airline, well guess,
what we don't, care and we're going to make it
harder for you to. Use it's it's so, arrogant it's
so in your, faith it's so we don't care what you.
Think you, know When delta made their latest change is

(06:10):
sharing AND i AND i, mean we've got a bazillion
frequent flyer. Miles we've flown less in the last year
than we've ever flown, ever and a lot of it
has to do with the fact that you, know If
i've got another, Carrier i'm going to choose. Them it's
just to, me it just it gets to the point
where it just reaches that point of no, return And

(06:30):
i've reached it because when these airlines have got to
the point where the frequent flyer programs where they make
so much money from their credit cards and the other
things that you can accumulate. Miles and you, know my,
business my sky miles goes right through My American express
card as far as the business expenses THAT i. Have

(06:50):
But i'm telling, you when they start making it harder
to use, things it's it's a shell, game AND i
don't like. IT i don't like how it makes me
feel as a. Customer and you KNOW i can choose
to go, elsewhere which we've certainly.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Done, well just eliminate the.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Program, then if you're going to make it so impossible
for me to redeem something that you promised me in
a program that you used as an incentive for me
to book with your, airline that you're gonna make it,
difficult not just you, know fase it. Out if you're
gonna make it, difficult just end it.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Then.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Well in the biggest issue That American Delta united people
have been reaching out to me, Saying, jay it used
to be with all my friends of flyer, MILES i
could request an, upgrade a courtesy upgrade at the gate
if they had an opening in first, class and if they,
didn't that's, Fine i'd sit and. Coach, well a lot
of these individuals are boarding flights now and as they,
do they've noticed four or five seats empty in first

(07:42):
class and they're, saying, wait, man why DIDN'T i get? Upgraded,
well you now have to use points or. Money that's
how you're going to get your button first. Class in other,
words we could care less what we've done in the.
Past this is the new, thing and it's the new.
Rules it's how we're playing playing the, game and you,
know you just have to kind of deal with. It

(08:02):
and for a lot of freaking fly all their TICK
i have heard from so many, People but it doesn't
matter because we keep flying those same. Airlines And i've
told people all the, time if if we, keep you,
know seeing a ninety percent load factor and a lot
of these airlines they treat us like. Crap is there
any real incentive for them to treat us any? Different? Answer, No, no.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
It's our courtesy, upgrades like you just mentioned those thing
in the, past or is that still worth?

Speaker 4 (08:27):
ASKING i, mean airlines at this point in time are
looking at those first class seats saying we have to
have something for you to get up. There either you
burn miles or you end up just paying for it
to be up. There and it's. Now When shery AND i,
fly we get the delta non, refundable it's called A z.
Class it's a non refundable first class. Ticket so we're

(08:48):
sitting in first, class but we're not paying those, ridiculous
stupid first class. Fairs we're paying a very, cheap, discounted
non refundable type. Fare so for, us we're already paying
to be up. There so that part doesn't bother. Me
it's it's not sour apples on my, part where you
Know i'm mad because something's been taken. Away we're already up.
There But i'm seeing a lot of people that use

(09:09):
those miles for. Upgrade these men and women that travel
for business all the, time and that's one of their
their their perks is you, know one of the reasons
that you're on the, road you're just exhausted all the,
time so you know the company's not going to pay
to put you in first, class but you've got enough
miles where you can at least get that temporary relaxation

(09:30):
if you can call it, that but not so much these.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Days you can find him at j ratlift dot. Com
he's our aviation. Expert if you see anything weird and
if you're flying this week or this week under any,
time really Let jay.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Know he'll he'll look into it for.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
You and this The Air india story FROM i don't
know a couple of weeks, ago that tragic plane crash
In india where the one guy. Survived there is a
new theory slash rumor floating around out.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
There what is.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
That it's the possibility of fuel. Contaminate this is something
that we talked about at the time that the accident.
Happened when you have a dual engine, failure something serious
and almost unprecedented has. Happened and there was Another Air
india flight that took off out Of Hong kong that
had a fuel filter light come on. ON i believe

(10:19):
it was the right engine and it indicated that there
was a problem with the fuel going through the fuel
filter going into the. Engine now it returned To Hong, kong,
okay it was, fine but it was something that made us, think,
no wait a, minute is there something going on from
a fuel contamination, standpoint that might be causing something to
happen with these. Engines we've seen everything from a rumor

(10:42):
of oh that the captain seat went back and he
hit the wrong lever by, mistake blah blah. Blah And i'm, Thinking,
okay the captain ten or eleven nine thousand, HOURS i
think he very very. Experienced those types of things just don't.
Happen but these rumors are out. There really the surprising, Thing,
mike we normally have after about seven to ten days

(11:04):
in a preliminary indication from the black. Boxes, okay we've
been able to get into. Them this is some of
the preliminary things we're looking at. Now the investigation is
going to take a, year but sometimes that about the
week to ten day, mark they'll give us something and
then normally thirty days after they'll give us something and
then normally nothing till the final. Report we've not gotten

(11:26):
anything officially from The indian government as of, now and
that's that's, different AND i don't want to sign any
sort of decision to, that but it's certainly unlike what
is usually that we usually, see and obviously we're all
anxious for. Answers we need to know what, happened and
hopefully we'll start to get.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Something, yeah, certainly hopefully nothing the fairy has. Happened there
will eventually find, OUT i would. Imagine, so all, right
any hub, delays we're dealing with. It it's that time of.
Year you've got these afternoon pop up thunderstorms around the, area.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
And those are the biggest things that we have been
dealing with for the LAST i guess the last, week
week and a half or so has been the current
the ongoing presence of these afternoon and evening, thunderstorms which
has really been a. Problem but if you're going to
be flying, today a lot of the focus is going
to be down towards the south with regards To, florida

(12:20):
be looking at some serious weather and that's over the
next couple of. Days it could really impact flights Through,
florida especially coming up through. There other than, that AND
i Think houston may get something by the end of the,
day it should be a pretty good day to fly
for the next couple of. DAYS i think things get
dicey as we get closer To, Friday but you, know
for right, now things are pretty.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Good, Jay it's always a good day to.
