Holiday Shopping and Buyer's Remorse

NBC's Rory O'Neill reports that it's not even Halloween, and people are already stressed about holiday shopping!

I just can't believe it, not even not even Halloween,
two weeks from Halloween, and we're already talking about holiday shopping.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Well, and the stress that's already there. And really it's
more about it's more about than just the shopping. It's
the whole you know, do you take that Christmas vacation
where you're going to Because this is the time of
year you're finalizing those Christmas vacation plans as well, and
the stress is already seeping in. A survey by the
folks over at Current finds that seventy percent of Americans

are already stressed out about spending for the holiday season. Overall,
fifty eight percent said the stress and the financial obligations
suck the joy right out of the holiday.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
There's a lot of joy sucking during the holiday season,
and it shouldn't be because of stress like what to
do and how much to spend, but it's at every year,
it's earlier and earlier. And there's also some on people
returning stuff like returning products well right and.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
That's a survey from the National Retail Federation. I was
just flabbergasted by the numbers. What how much do you
think of sales or returned to the story of me,
fifty percent? Fifty Yeah, that one. We're that high? All right, Now,
you have blew my lead there. I would have been
like I would have thought like five percent overall is returned. Instead,

the NRP says it's almost sixteen percent of all goods
sold or actually a return and that adds up to
just shy of eight hundred and fifty billion dollars in
returns this year.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
That's that's wild, and that's it's so easy now with
you buying online and you get something and doesn't fit,
you just send it back and it's it's remarkable. And
I would expect, despite everything with the economy, that we'll
see we'll probably see record spending this holiday season.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah, we'll get the NRF estimate for the holiday shopping season.
I think I think it's at November third or fourth,
somewhere in there for the full prediction for the year ahead.
But it's look, it's going to be a stretch for
a lot more households. Let's see how this shutdown impact
things as well longer term. If those this goes on
for weeks and weeks, that could really disrupt some spending
