Speaker 1 (00:00):
At six forty six Thursday Morning, Mike Elliott Columbus's Morning
News over to the Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line.
It's where we find Rory O'Neil NBC News Radio. Rory. So,
this year we had all the immigration crackdowns and ice
raids in Chicago, La, Washington, and those are expanding to
more cities. Where are they headed?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Right? We've seen now more booths on the ground quite
literally in places like New Orleans and Minneapolis, Saint Paul.
In New Orleans, it's interesting because the governor is like,
come on in, bring the National Guard, bring everybody. We'll
take the free law enforcement and you can stay right
on through Marti Gras. And meanwhile the Mayor of New
Orleans is like, Oh, I'm not so sure. I don't

(00:40):
like all the masks on these guys driving these unmarked vehicles.
That's scaring a lot of kids and communities. So the
governor and the mayor are on two very different pages.
So put it politely. When it comes to Louisiana and
New Orleans, and then in Minneapolis Saint Paul, a lot
of pushback against President Trump. Some of the language he's
been using to describe the population there in the Minneapolis

(01:03):
and Saint Paul areas, and then some derogatory language used
toward the governor of Minnesota as well, So I think
that's getting more of the attention rather than the actual
enforcement operations in Minneapolis.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
So when it comes to the actual enforcement operations, I mean,
we're looking mainly for unauthorized immigrants with criminal histories.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yes, well that's what they say they're looking for, but
oftentimes getting caught up in these things are people who
are day laborers and maybe don't have other criminal records
outside of not being in the US properly. So that's
what they said from the beginning, they were going after
the worst of the worst, but oftentimes only about a
third or less actually had any criminal history at all.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Well, hopefully those people that you know, once you make
that first you know, sweep with that big wide net
and then you realize these people are here, you know,
temporarily legally and not criminals, that they would be released
and about allowed to go about their business, and then
only the dangerous legal immigrants that are opposing some problems
to this country would be detained. So IM not sure

(02:05):
that's always going to be the case, but I guess
we shall see.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Yeah, And let's get it all out in the open.
And if people are here pending, if they're overdue on visas,
let's figure out are we sending them back, are we
get it pushing them through the system. Let's get it,
you know, let's let's let's sort it all out out
in the open.
