Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Legacy Retirement Group dot com. Phone line from Fox News.
It's Tanya J. Powers with an update on this the
terrible situation in midtown Manhattan where the gunman went into
that building, Tanya and killed four people. And we know
now that he had a beef with the NFL. What's
the story here he did, I've got.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
A couple of minutes to spend with you, but he's
left a note behind apparently that said he had chronic
traumatic encephalopathy or CTE, which is a degenerative brain disease
linked to repeated head trauma. Officials have said that he
intended to target the offices of the NFL. He apparently
accused the NFL of hiding dangers of brain injuries that
(00:41):
will link to contact sports. However, he did not get
to the NFL's offices. He instead ended up at the
offices of Flagstone because he took the wrong elevator, so
he went to a different floor. That is the reason
that you know he did not do more damage at
the NFL floor. An NFL employee, however, was wounded in
the attack. We do know that that that person is
(01:05):
apparently recovering. There were four people who were killed, one
of those is an off duty n YP the officer.
His funeral, by the way, is set for tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
And uh, there was an they honored that officer, I believe,
yesterday and they suggest that he made the ultimate sacrifice.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yes, this is Uh. There was a vigil last night
for all of the victims here in midtown. I don't
expect that to be the only thing that is that
is done to remember these people. You know, this was
just a tragedy all the way around. There's a lot
of questions obviously, including you know where the gun came
from that this guy used. They said that, you know,
(01:46):
he apparently was an an employee at Horseshoe Las Vegas.
He didn't show up for work on Sunday. He instead
got in his car drove across the country to carry
out the shooting here in New York City. The gun
that he used was like an AR fifteen style weapon.
Apparently there were pieces of it that an associate of
(02:09):
his had purchased for him. He apparently is the one
who assembled it. But there's a lot of questions as
to you know, why that happens, you know who this was,
what the situation was with all of that.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
And one of the interesting points too, is speaking with
Tim J. Powers from Fox News, is you know, back
to the NFL connection. He never played in the NFL.
I don't even know if he played college football. I
know he played high school football, and you know, he
says he had CTE. Has there been any medical findings.
I don't know that they've gotten to a point where
they're able to study his brain, which he has requested.
(02:43):
But I mean, I'm sure they have access to his
medical records that could show if he indeed did suffer
from repeated concussions. But he never played in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
No, he didn't. He did play in high school. He did,
according to police, have a history of mental illness. They
did not give details on that. Also, don't know of
any kind of, you know, diagnosis from a doctor that
you hadn't been given on CTE. It was my understanding
that you can't diagnose that until someone has passed, until
you study their brain. But I could be wrong about that.
(03:12):
That is completely within the realm of possibility. I know,
that's just seems to be, you know, the thing that
we mostly hear about when this is found in you know,
stay former football players who do indeed, you know, have
their their brains studied afterwards, and then they find that yes,
this is indeed what was what was going on, But
that's you know, kind of in a nutshell, What's what's
(03:33):
happening right now,
